Mathematical Articulation of the Indexical-Fiber Framework: The Postulate and the Relational Structural Register

Abstract

The formal reference record for the representation developed in the indexical-fiber preprint. Definiteness as Index gives the minimal reading of quantum outcomes; this document states the representation in which that reading is computed: a flat ℤ/2 local system over spacetime with a binary index, the structure-fact fence, the section-level content and the relational register. The rules of the typing are kept in the Typing Schema, Rev 4.6. Version notes, Revision 5.5 line:Revision 5.5 (15 October 2026) publishes the articulation as a standalone reference record under Definiteness as Index, Rev 3. A status paragraph in §0 places it as the record of the representation, with Definiteness as Index stating the reading. The body is unchanged from Revision 5.4. Submitted for technical scrutiny, not belief.

From Kinematics to Gauge Invariance: The Indexical Fiber Representation of Quantum Definiteness: Four-Document Set

Dao Bo Yang

The Reid Program: From Kinematics to Gauge Invariance: The Indexical Fiber Representation of Quantum Definiteness: Four-Document Set (July 2026) This deposit collects four documents developing a kinematic representation of quantum definiteness as indexical content on a bare two-element fiber over spacetime. The anchor paper, Observation as an Indexical Fiber over Spacetime: A Kinematic Representation and the Dynamics It Permits, states the framework and its principal results: no deterministic diagonal recovery of Born statistics (Theorem 1); reduction of all swap-invariant content to a class in H¹(M₄;ℤ/2) (Theorem 2); a cohomological manifestation obstruction; and the coarseness result barring the discrete invariant from carrying continuum Born weights. The Mathematical Articulation (Rev 3.4) is the formal companion record: the order-only constitutive register, the composability constraint, the structure-fact fence, and the unified deferral pattern under which open questions are held. Two companion papers depend on the pillars alone. The Fence as Gauge Symmetry (RP-Γ-01, Rev 1) shows the fiber bundle to be one presentation among equivalents of the cohomology class, recasts the structure-fact fence as a ℤ/2 gauge invariance, derives the forced topological character of any admissible action, and identifies the complete observable set with ℤ/2 Wilson loops. Manifestation as Admissibility (RP-P-01, Rev 2) states the philosophical consequence: on the bare kinematics, manifestation has no process content; its structural content is exhausted by admissibility conditions; the irreducible residue is indexical. The thesis is framework-relative and carries its falsification surface explicitly: deterministic single-outcome completions pay a Bell-forced preferred foliation; the stochastic covariant class is held open. The framework predicts no new empirical content; this is stated as a feature and defended. One specialist question, on modular flow and the loop observables, is posed in language requiring no corpus context. Submitted for technical scrutiny, not belief.

Definiteness as Index: A Minimal Coherent Reading of Quantum Outcomes over Spacetime

Aron Reid

A switch by itself has no fact attached to it. Call one position "occupied" and the other "vacant", but nothing in the switch tells you which convention you chose. A state becomes a fact only through comparison. This paper asks what follows if quantum outcomes are understood the same way. The answer is definiteness as index. An outcome is an occupancy: a yes-or-no distinction from a reference, located at a region of spacetime and relative to the measurement made there. It records that an outcome obtained, not which. Records can be read, but every reading makes a new fact for the reader rather than carrying an old one across. The Ground. Spacetime is typed into two primitives: extension, carrying total orientation, and sequence, carrying causal order and time orientation. Neither contains the other's orientation. The Index. Outcomes are occupancies over this ground. Quantum statistics are unchanged. In the Frauchiger-Renner argument, every link in the chain joins laboratories separated by extension, and the step that fails joins a record to a later, incompatible measurement separated by sequence. The Weld. What joins the two orientations? On a flat base only responses to spatial handedness can, and in the Standard Model their sole occupants are the axial couplings to the W and Z bosons. The weak interaction, not spacetime, links space and time orientation. The paper makes one postulate: outcomes are occupancies of contexts. It cannot be derived from the ground, the local algebras and the coherence conditions, which force only that the paradox fail somewhere. The postulate supplies what a fact is, and with it where the paradox stops. That postulate is enough. Any reading that locates facts and combines them by a fixed rule must keep incompatible measurements apart, and every such reading is represented exactly by occupancy. Rivals are this canonical form plus an addition. The result holds on curved spacetimes, for general measurements, and in every contextual theory examined, not only quantum theory. Version notes, Rev 3 line:Rev 3 (14 October 2026) extends the representation theorem to curved spacetimes and general measurements, and its necessity result to general probabilistic theories, where it holds in every contextual theory examined (Section 5, Appendix A.9). Submitted for technical scrutiny, not belief.

The Type III Dimension Postulate: Observation as Indexical Content on a Geometric Fiber Bundle over Spacetime (Revision 3)

Aron Reid, Claude Anthropic

Revision 3 is the consolidated post-review articulation of the framework first submitted to the International Journal of Quantum Foundations / Quantum Speculations in April 2026 under the title "Observation as Emergent Dimension: The Reid Postulate." Following peer review, acceptance, and publication of Revision 1 in May 2026, this consolidation tightens the framework's load-bearing structural commitments and is filed under the descriptive title "The Type III Dimension Postulate" in recognition that the framework's content lies in the typeness separation rather than in any process of emergence. The Revision 1 submission remains the journal artifact of record under its original title. The framework organizes physical description as a geometric fiber bundle with base four-dimensional spacetime and binary fiber Ω. It articulates a categorical separation between three kinds of dimensional content (Type I spatial, Type II entropic, Type III indexical), commits to identical four-dimensional Lorentzian content across the indexed family with purely indexical difference, requires jointly describable systems to share an index (the composability constraint), and places the Born-compatible measure at the geometric floor by inheritance from Gleason's theorem on the projection lattice. The framework's no-go boundary is articulated in two registers — the kinematic (geometric) and the dynamic (a formal theorem) — with combined coverage stated and scope-gap preserved. Revision 3 commits to less than the Revision 1 submission. It carries the binary index in the body, demotes the continuous fiber and the emergence function α(ω) to admissible extensions, and tightens the composability constraint from joint observability to joint describability. Five open problems are named, structurally located, and explicitly not resolved. Four falsification conditions are named in advance. The framework's standing rests on three independent considerations: that it remains coherent, that it does specific work on its existing content, and that the original question stands as a precisely posable question. This deposit is one of seven companion documents in the project record. Companion deposits include Reid 2026 Rev 1 (the journal submission), Reid 2026b (the no-go theorem), Reid 2026c (Rev 2, the minimal-structure analysis), Reid 2026d (the structure-fact fence synthesis), Reid 2026e (the Gleason compatibility synthesis), Reid 2026f (the scope-conditional posture synthesis note), and Reid 2026g (the algebraic conditions for conditional indexability). The position paper "The Type III Dimension Postulate: Current Standing" provides wayfinding across the full set. Submitted for technical scrutiny, not belief

The Type III Dimension Postulate: Current Standing (Position Paper, Revision 2)

Aron Reid, Claude Anthropic

This position paper is a reference pointer and wayfinder for the project record of "The Type III Dimension Postulate" (Reid 2026, Rev 3). It is not a substitute for engagement with Rev 3 or its companion documents; its function is to state where the project stands at the close of the post-publication synthesis chapter, summarize the framework's claims and non-claims at the level appropriate to wayfinding, identify which companion documents carry which registers of the work, and direct readers to the artifacts that articulate the framework's content in full. The framework was first submitted to the International Journal of Quantum Foundations / Quantum Speculations in April 2026 under the title "Observation as Emergent Dimension: The Reid Postulate." Following peer review, acceptance, and publication of Revision 1 in May 2026, the framework's consolidated articulation (Rev 3) is filed under the descriptive title "The Type III Dimension Postulate" in recognition that the framework's load-bearing content lies in the typeness separation rather than in any process of emergence. Both titles are preserved in the project record: the IJQF submission remains the journal artifact of record under its original title; the consolidated articulation and forward-going record carry the new title. The position paper summarizes what the framework claims (the fiber bundle structure, binary Ω, identical four-dimensional content, typeness separation, composability, conditional applicability, Born measure placement, the no-go boundary in two registers) and what it does not claim (a dynamics for definiteness, a derivation of the Born rule, a positive theory of definiteness, a unification of general relativity and quantum mechanics, a categorical no-go theorem, an algebraic derivation of joint describability). It identifies the work the framework does on its existing content, names the open problems and their structural location, summarizes the no-go theorem's scope and underlying claim, and describes the framework's posture toward the literature. The project record consists of seven companion deposits. Reid 2026 (Rev 1) is the journal submission of record. Reid 2026b is the no-go theorem. Reid 2026c is the Rev 2 minimal-structure analysis. Reid 2026 (Rev 3) is the consolidated post-review articulation. Reid 2026d is the structure-fact fence synthesis. Reid 2026e is the Gleason compatibility synthesis. Reid 2026f articulates the scope-conditional posture. Reid 2026g is the baseline synthesis on algebraic conditions for conditional indexability. Readers seeking to engage the framework's claims at full articulation should consult Rev 3; readers seeking specific clarifications or applications should consult the companion documents named in this position paper. Revision 2 of this position paper supersedes Revision 1 editorially. It incorporates Reid 2026f and Reid 2026g into the companion record, updates Rev 3's archive status, carries the corrected descriptive title for the forward-going record, and adjusts the closing register from forward-leaning to custodial in recognition of the project's transition from active construction to maintained record. The framework's structural commitments are unchanged. Submitted for technical scrutiny, not belief

The Type III Dimension Postulate · Rev 3 and Synthesis Layer (2026c–2026i, with Closing Statement

Aron Reid, Claude Anthropic

This deposit gathers the consolidated articulation of the Reid Postulate following its acceptance by the International Journal of Quantum Foundations / Quantum Speculations on 2 May 2026. It comprises the post-review revision (Rev 3), eight synthesis companions (2026c through 2026i), and the closing statement that marks the work complete. The framework proposes that the dimensions of physical description are not all the same structural kind. It names the unargued assumption that they are — the Homogeneity Postulate — and lifts it, proposing a categorical separation between Type I (spatial), Type II (entropic), and Type III (observational) dimensions. Observation is articulated as a Type III index on a fiber bundle over four-dimensional spacetime, with binary fiber Ω carrying purely indexical distinction between two members of identical Lorentzian content. The framework places the Born-compatible measure at the geometric floor by inheritance from Gleason's theorem on the projection lattice, and carries a composability constraint requiring jointly describable systems to share index. A companion no-go theorem closes one class of candidate dynamics on the geometry; the framework's combined no-go boundary is articulated in both kinematic and dynamic registers. The synthesis layer extends the framework's articulation without modifying its load-bearing commitments. Each companion sits at a distinct register: minimal-structure analysis (2026c), the structure–fact fence (2026d), Gleason compatibility (2026e), the scope-conditional posture (2026f), algebraic conditions for indexability (2026g), Hilbert-space-level conditionality (2026h), and the structural relationship to the standard sheaf-theoretic contextuality stack (2026i). Each respects the no-go boundary, the structure–fact fence, and the disciplined-baseline reading. None of them extends the framework's claims. They articulate what the framework already carries, at the registers where its commitments meet established machinery in the literature. The closing statement (15 May 2026) records that the chapter of building the Postulate is complete. The framework stands on three independent considerations: that it remains coherent, that it does specific work on its existing content, and that the original question — what would follow if observation is a fifth dimension? — stands as a precisely posable question. Open problems are named, located, and not resolved. Falsification conditions are stated. What the framework does not claim is part of what it offers. The work is offered for technical scrutiny. It adds no particles, forces, symmetries, or universes. It operates by removing an assumption rather than adding structure. Its value, if any, will be determined by the researchers who engage it. Submitted for technical scrutiny, not belief.

Observation as an Indexical Fiber over Spacetime: A Kinematic Representation and the Dynamics It Permits

Aron Reid, Claude (Opus 4.6) Anthropic

I present a kinematic representation of quantum definiteness: an account of what a definite outcome is, rather than of the process by which one comes about. The central claim is that whether an outcome has obtained is indexical content about a physical description, not a degree of freedom within it, a fact of the same kind as which point is here or which moment is now. To make this precise, I attach to a four-dimensional causal spacetime M₄ a fiber bundle with structure group ℤ/2 and two-element fiber Ω = {ω₀, ω₁}. The fiber is deliberately bare, carrying no measure, metric, order, or dynamics. Definiteness is simply the value this index takes, relative to a local observable algebra, at a region of spacetime. The representation introduces no new empirical content. It reproduces standard quantum statistics, predicts nothing that would distinguish it from standard quantum theory, and offers instead one coherent packaging of structure the theory already carries, under a discipline that keeps the object from acquiring anything it has not declared. Within that discipline I prove what the index forecloses. No deterministic law diagonal in the pointer basis can act on the index and reproduce Born statistics; it gives winner-take-all selection instead (Theorem 1). Every swap-invariant fact about the bare fiber reduces to a single holonomy class in H¹(M₄; ℤ/2), so the index cannot carry dynamical structure covertly (Theorem 2). The Born measure is not derived but inherited: Gleason's theorem fixes it on the projection lattice in dimension three and above, and the discrete index is provably too coarse to carry it. The positive work is to separate three obstructions to a global description of definiteness that are routinely conflated. A global choice of the manifest value exists exactly when a holonomy class A vanishes, in close analogy with the orientability of a double cover and its first Stiefel–Whitney class (Proposition 2). Distinct from A is C, the failure of a common section across incompatible measurement contexts meeting at one region; distinct again is B, Kochen–Specker contextuality on the projection lattice. I show that A and C are different objects (Proposition 4), and that C and B differ as well (Proposition 4′), leaving open only how C and B relate where both can occur. Throughout, I am explicit about which mathematics is inherited, which is elementary once isolated, and which is my own framing, and about what a dynamics inhabiting this kinematics would and would not be permitted to add. This version (v3) adds the result distinguishing the common-section obstruction from contextuality, on a single-qubit witness, and narrows the one open question accordingly. It settles the typology of the framework, marking which commitments are constitutive of the indexical reading and which are austerity choices relaxable at a stated cost, and records that the austerity's inviolability is secured by the theorems rather than merely stipulated. It adds a rigor clause to the first foreclosure result and a reference to the spontaneous-collapse bounds now under laboratory test. Submitted for technical scrutiny, not belief.
