Abstract

We review the results obtained by investigating, in the framework of the theory of open systems based on completely positive quantum dynamical semigroups, the time evolution of quantum entanglement of two different bimodal systems, each one interacting with a thermal environment. The first system is formed of the free massless bosonic mode of a stationary observer in a region that is asymptotically flat (Kruskal observer) or freely falling in Schwarzschild black hole, and the mode of a uniformly accelerated observer hovering outside the event horizon of black hole. For initial bimodal Gaussian squeezed thermal states of the system, we show that under the influence of Hawking radiation the quantum entanglement of the two modes is destroyed in a finite time, for non-zero values of the temperature of the thermal environment, i.e. the phenomenon of entanglement sudden death takes place. The second system consists of two bosonic modes associated with a scalar quantum field in de Sitter space, characterized by two regions that are causally disconnected and described using open universe coordinates on two open charts. The survival time of the entanglement of this bimodal system strongly depends on the competition between the contrary effects provided by the squeezing of the initial bimodal state, the curvature of de Sitter space, the mass parameter and the thermal environment. It is shown that the entanglement is minimized for values 1/2 and 3/2 of the mass parameter, corresponding to the conformally coupled scalar field and, respectively, minimally coupled massless field.

Quantum entanglement of two bosonic modes in de Sitter space

Abstract The time evolution of Gaussian quantum entanglement of two bosonic modes associated with a scalar quantum field in de Sitter space and in interaction with a thermal reservoir is investigated in the framework of the theory of open systems based on completely positive quantum dynamical semigroups. We show that quantum entanglement strongly depends on the squeezing of the bimodal state, the parameters characterizing the thermal environment, the curvature parameter of de Sitter space, and the mass parameter. The thermal environment and the curvature have a destructive influence on the entanglement, whose survival time depends on the competition between the contrary effects provided by the squeezing of the bimodal state, the curvature, and the thermal bath. The entanglement is minimized for values 1/2 and 3/2 of the mass parameter, corresponding to the conformally coupled scalar field, respectively, minimally coupled massless field.

Gaussian quantum entanglement in curved spacetime

Madalin Calamanciuc, Аурелиан Исар

The influence of Hawking radiation on quantum entanglement for bimodal Gaussian states near a Schwarzschild black hole is investigated. It is shown that for a thermal squeezed state of a bimodal bosonic system the Hawking radiation reduces and even can destroy the entanglement between the mode of a Kruskal observer Alice and the mode of Bob, who is an accelerated observer hovering outside the event horizon of black hole. By contrary, the Hawking radiation increases and even can generate quantum entanglement between Bob and anti-Bob, who is a hypothetical observer inside event horizon. We show that in both these scenarios the competition between the contrary influences produced by Hawking temperature, squeezing and field frequency, may favour the preservation of the quantum entanglement. We investigate also the influence of the thermal environment on the behaviour in time of the entanglement between the considered observers and show that the entanglement is destroyed in a finite time for both considered bipartite scenarios of observers Alice and Bob, and respectively Bob and anti-Bob, for non-zero values of the temperature of the thermal environment, i.e. the phenomenon of entanglement sudden death takes place. For a zero temperature of the thermal bath the initial existing entanglement is decreasing over time, but it keeps for all finite times a non-zero value and the logarithmic negativity tends to zero only in the limit of infinite time.

Entanglement evolution of a two-mode Gaussian system in various thermal environments

Tatiana Mihaescu, Аурелиан Исар

We describe the evolution of the quantum entanglement of an open system consisting of two bosonic modes interacting with a common thermal environment, described by two different models. The initial state of the system is taken of Gaussian form. In the case of a thermal bath, characterized by temperature and dissipation constant which correspond to an asymptotic Gibbs state of the system, we show that for a zero temperature of the thermal bath an initial entangled Gaussian state remains entangled for all finite times. For an entangled initial squeezed thermal state, the phenomenon of entanglement sudden death takes place and we calculate the survival time of entanglement. For the second model of the environment, corresponding to a non-Gibbs asymptotic state, we study the possibility of generating entanglement. We show that the generation of the entanglement between two uncoupled bosonic modes is possible only for definite values of the temperature and dissipation constant, which characterize the thermal environment.

Entanglement of formation in two-mode Gaussian systems in a thermal environment

Irina Dumitru, Аурелиан Исар

In the framework of the theory of open systems based on completely positive quantum dynamical semigroups, we give a description of the continuous variable entanglement for a system consisting of two non-interacting bosonic modes embedded in a thermal environment. The calculated measure of entanglement is entanglement of formation. We describe the evolution of entanglement in terms of the covariance matrix for symmetric Gaussian input states. In the case of an entangled initial squeezed thermal state, entanglement suppression (entanglement sudden death) takes place, for all non-zero temperatures of the thermal bath. After that, the system remains for all times in a separable state. For a zero temperature of the thermal bath, the system remains entangled for all finite times, but in the limit of asymptotic large times the state becomes separable.

Entanglement in two-mode continuous variable open quantum systems

Аурелиан Исар

In the framework of the theory of open systems based on completely positive quantum dynamical semigroups, we present a description of continuous-variable entanglement for a system consisting of two non-interacting modes embedded in a thermal environment. By using the Peres–Simon necessary and sufficient criterion for the separability of two-mode Gaussian states, we describe the evolution of entanglement in terms of the covariance matrix for Gaussian input states. For all values of the temperature of the thermal reservoir, an initial separable Gaussian state remains separable for all times. In the case of an entangled initial Gaussian state, entanglement suppression (entanglement sudden death) takes place for non-zero temperatures of the environment. Only for zero temperature of the thermal bath, the initial entangled state remains entangled for finite times. We also show that, independent of its type, namely separable or entangled, the initial state evolves asymptotically to an equilibrium state that is always separable.

Entanglement Generation in Two-Mode Gaussian Systems in a Thermal Environment

Аурелиан Исар

We describe the evolution of the quantum entanglement in a system composed of two interacting bosonic modes immersed in a thermal reservoir, in the framework of the theory of open systems based on completely positive quantum dynamical semigroups. The evolution of entanglement is described in terms of the covariance matrix for Gaussian initial states. We calculate the logarithmic negativity and show that for separable initial squeezed thermal states entanglement generation may take place, for definite values of squeezing parameter, average photon numbers, temperature of the thermal bath, dissipation constant and the strength of interaction between the two modes. After its generation one can observe temporary suppressions and revivals of the entanglement. For entangled initial squeezed thermal states, entanglement suppression takes place, for all temperatures of the reservoir, and temporary revivals and suppressions of entanglement can be observed too. In the limit of infinite time the system evolves asymptotically to an equilibrium state which may be entangled or separable.
