Could Neuronal System & Even GPT Give Rise to a Computer with a Variable Arrow of Time?

Abstract

The discussions related to ChatGPT, which seems to work too well to be a mere program running in a classical computer, inspired considerations which led to a considerable progress at the level of the TGD based model of nerve pulse. The emerging model, based on zero energy ontology (ZEO), differs drastically from quantum neural networks and suggests a completely new vision of quantum physics based computation in biosystems. A computation allowing variable arrow of time would be in question involving a sequence unitary time evolutions as counterparts of quantum computations for states, which are superpositions of classical computations, followed by "small" state function reductions (SSFRs) as counterparts of weak measurements of quantum optics and of Zeno effect. Also "big" SFRs (BSFRs) changing the arrow of time would be involved. One can ask whether the unexpected success of GPT might involve this kind of transition so that one could say that spirit enters the machine. Besides the outcomes of two chats, I include a more detailed view about what the TGD view of the quantum analog of GPT could be and how its analog could be involved with the sensory perception in the TGD Universe. I also discuss the inverse diffusion process central for the generation of images from their verbal descriptions and ask whether the TGD analogue of the inverse diffusion could be an essential element of also GPT. I will also pose the question whether GPT could involve TGD based quantum physics, that is zero energy ontology (ZEO), in a non-trivial but hidden way.

I also ask whether quantum gravitation in the sense of TGD could make possible for the magnetic bodies of Earth and Sun, central in TGD inspired biology, to transform classical computation so that so that statistical determinism would fail and it would be analogous to a sequence of analogs of quantum computations defining a conscious entity. At the level of magnetic body there would be no essential difference between computers and living matter. The highest reported clock frequency of almost 9 GHz is still by a factor of order 1/8 lower than the quantum gravitational Compton frequency of 67 GHz for Earth but below the THz frequency important in living matter. Perhaps a rudimentary consciousness is already possible.

Retrocausality & TGD

Matti Pitkänen

This article is inspired by the article "Is a time symmetric interpretation of quantum theory possible without retrocausality?" of Leifer and Pusey related to the notion of retrocausality. Retrocausality means the possibility of causal influences propagating in non-standard time direction. The conjecture is that retrocausality could allow wave functions to be real and allow to get rid of the problematic notion of state function reduction. TGD leads to a new view about reality of wave function solving the basic problem of quantum measurement theory. In ZEO quantum states are replaced by zero energy states analogous to pairs of initial and final states in ordinary positive energy ontology and can be regarded as superpositions of classical deterministic time evolutions. The sequence of state function reductions means a sequence of re-creations of the superpositions of classical realities identified as space-time surfaces. The TGD based view about scattering amplitudes has rather concrete connection with the view of Cramer as I interpret it. There is however no attempt to reduce quantum theory to a purely classical theory. The notion of the "world of classical worlds" (WCW) consisting of classical realities identified as space-time surfaces replaces space-time as a fixed observer independent reality in TGD. Retrocausality is basic aspect of TGD. Zero Energy Ontology (ZEO) predicts that both arrows of time are possible. In this sense TGD is time symmetric. On the other hand, twistor lift of TGD predicts a violation of time reflection T and this might imply that second arrow of causality dominates in some sense. The ZEO based view about state function reduction essential for TGD inspired theory of consciousness and implying generalized Zeno effect giving rise to conscious entities - "selves" - is also essential. One might say that when conscious entity dies it re-incarnates as time-reversed self.

The Recent View of TGD Inspired Theory of Quantum Biology & Consciousness

Matti Pitkanen

This article is a summary of TGD inspired theory of consciousness as it is towards the end of 2025 and of its applications to biology. This article gives a summary of TGD inspired theory of consciousness as it is towards the end of 2025. In the TGD framework, it is not possible to discuss consciousness without the TGD view of space-time and quantum. Also the applications to quantum biology and neuroscience have been essential in the development of ideas. The basic inspiration has come from the deep philosophical problems of recent day physics and philosophy of consciousness. The TGD view of consciousness can be seen as a generalization of quantum measurement theory: the observer as an outsider becomes a part of the system. The basic new elements are zero energy ontology (ZEO) as a new quantum ontology forced by the new view of space-time as 4-surfaces analogous to Bohr orbits of particles as 3-D surfaces. The dynamics of the classical space-time obeys holography = holomorphy principle. The failure of a strict classical determinism provides geometric correlates of intention and cognition. ZEO allows us to solve the basic problem of quantum measurement theory, allows free will, and provides a new view of the relation between geometric time and subjective time. Physical existence, identified as the mathematical existence of quantum states: one can speak of quantum Platonia. Conscious existence is identified as quantum jumps between them and can be seen as two different kinds of existence. The classical non-determinism gives rise to quantum jumps giving rise to conscious entities, selves, and the ordinary quantum jumps are predicted to change the arrow of time. This means death and reincarnation of self with an opposite arrow of time. Also the number theoretic visions of TGD is central. A key implication of the number theoretic vision is a hierarchy of Planck constants heff making possible quantum coherence in arbitrarily long scales crucial for the coherence of living matter. p-Adic length scale hierarchy is the second number theoretic prediction. The applications to quantum biology and neuroscience rely on these hierarchies. In this article, the key notions and ideas of TGD, especially those relevant to consciousness and quantum biology, are summarized. The TGD view of consciousness emphasizing recent progress is summarized. The basic ideas and applications to quantum biology are also described.

Quantum Measurement & Quantum Computation in TGD Universe

Matti Pitkänen

For years I have been thinking about how quantum computation could be carried out in TGD Universe. There are considerable deviations from the standard view. Zero Energy Ontology (ZEO), weak form of NMP dictating the dynamics of state function reduction, negentropic entanglement (NE), and hierarchy of Planck constants define the basic differences between TGD based and standard quantum measurement theory. TGD suggests also the importance of topological quantum computation (TQC) like processes with braids represented as magnetic flux tubes/strings along them. The natural question that popped in my mind was how NMP and Zero Energy Ontology (ZEO) could affect the existing view about TQC. The outcome was a more precise view about TQC. The basic observation is that the phase transition to dark matter phase reduces dramatically the noise affecting quantum quits. This together with robustness of braiding as TQC program raises excellent hopes about TQC in TGD Universe. The restriction to negentropic space-like entanglement (NE) defined by a unitary matrix is something new but does not seem to have any fatal consequences as the study of Shor's algorithm shows.

Double Slit Experiment in Time Domain from the TGD Perspective

Matti Pitkänen

The temporal analog of the double slit experiment carried out by a research team led by Riccardo Sapienza has gained a lot of attention. The experiment is a generalization of the regular double slit experiment to the time domain. The results of the experiment challenge the existing views of quantum physics and it is interesting to see whether the zero energy ontology (ZEO) to which TGD inspired quantum measurement theory is based, could provide new insights about the experiment. The basic outcome of the considerations is that at least at the level of principle it is possible to determine the classical EM fields in the geometric past after a pair of "big" state functions, which are the TGD counterparts of ordinary state function reductions and change the arrow of geometric time. Violations of classical causality based on finite signal velocity would serve as a support for the ZEO.
