An Operator Algebraic Ladder for ER = EPR over a Forcing Poset; Genericity, Randomness, and the Observer Core

Abstract

An Operator-Algebraic Ladder for ER = EPR over a Forcing Poset: an operator-algebraic formulation of ER = EPR as a ladder of levels, and a proof that a forcing construction over finite labelled graphs forces them up to type III₁ and no further...ER = EPR, the proposal that entangled black holes are connected by Einstein-Rosen bridges, is a conjecture about spacetime. Its operator-algebraic shadows, however, can be stated and proved exactly. This paper does that, and then asks which of them a forcing construction over finite labelled graphs (my Relational Horizon Dynamics programme) actually forces. What is proved:• Level zero. For a factor, three conditions are equivalent: universal entanglement across a cut, no tensor factorisation of the Hilbert space, and not type I. This is the level at which ER = EPR is a theorem.• A ladder of strictly stronger levels: type III, type III₁ (where the observer core of Witten's crossed product is a factor), continuous modular spectrum, and half-sided modular inclusions.• The forcing forces connectivity at every cut, with type II₁, III_μ or III₁ fixed by a ratio group. It always lands at a product state, however, so the geometric levels are never forced.• Cohen-generic and random configurations are mutually singular (category versus measure).• The adjunction relation is hyperfinite. So every Feldman-Moore factor of the construction is injective, and every observer core that is a factor is the unique injective II∞ factor.• Quasi-free states whose two-point operator has absolutely continuous spectrum, including the construction's jump-symbol state, supply the continuous-spectrum level.• Numerically, the jump-symbol state's entanglement entropy has logarithmic coefficient 1/6. That coefficient detects the symbol's single jump, not a level of the ladder. What is not claimed: no spacetime theorem and no proof of gravitational ER = EPR. The geometric levels remain open, and the paper names what would close them. …I did this work while living with a traumatic brain injury, trigeminal neuralgia, and double vision. AI (Claude, Anthropic) was both my collaborator and the tool that made reading possible, and its role is disclosed in the paper. Every step went through an adversarial audit protocol I designed, and an audit record accompanied it.Critical review from operator algebraists and set theorists is very welcome.#MathematicalPhysics #OperatorAlgebras #QuantumGravity #SetTheory #Entanglement

ER = EPR as a χ‑Ontological Theorem in ZEBTS: Spectral Nonlocality, Modular Dynamics, and Arithmetic Geometry

Anatolii Mukha

Abstract We establish a rigorous operator‑algebraic and arithmetic formulation of the identity ER = EPR within the χ‑spectral framework of ZEBTS. The analysis is based on a hyperfinite type III₁ spectral triple (Aχ, Hχ, Dχ), where the χ‑vacuum Ωχ is cyclic and separating for all local subalgebras. We introduce the χ‑time spectrum Specχ = {ln p : p prime}, prove its linear independence over Q, and show that the arithmetic χ‑potential Aε(σ,t) converges, in the distributional sense, to a modular phase governed by the logarithmic derivative of the Riemann ζ‑function. Local algebras FA and FB associated with spacelike separated regions satisfy the split property FA ⊂ NAB ⊂ FB′, and the canonical Longo endomorphism γ of NAB carries a Jones index Ind(γ) > 1 precisely when the relative KK‑class [ERAB] ∈ KK(FA ⊗ FB°, C) is non‑trivial. Modular entanglement is defined through the Connes Radon–Nikodym cocycle u(t) = (DωAB : D(ωA ⊗ ωB))t, and we prove that u(t) ≠ I if and only if the χ‑phase function ΘAB(t) = Σp p^(1/2) ln p sin(t ln p) is non‑vanishing almost everywhere. Combining these results yields the main theorem: under the structural assumptions on (Aχ, Hχ, Dχ), the existence of an ER‑bridge between FA and FB is equivalent to χ‑EPR entanglement and to non‑trivial χ‑modular coherence. This provides a mathematically precise formulation of ER = EPR within the χ‑spectral ontology.

A Minimal Logical Pathway to (ER=EPR)-like: The Closer the Two Points, the Stronger the Correlation

Chan

This preprint offers a minimal, background-independent logical re-reading of the ER=EPR conjecture using the Logical Language (LL) of standard quantum mechanics. ER=EPR links quantum entanglement to geometric connections (Einstein–Rosen bridges) in emergent spacetime, with standard arguments relying on AdS/CFT and the Ryu–Takayanagi formula. LL strictly follows textbook QM and classical logic, defining physical existence solely by in-principle distinguishability (a detector). Undefined classical local spacetime variables across regions thus lack independent reality. Consistency then requires stronger-than-classical correlations to maintain connectivity, yielding the simple relation: the closer two points, the stronger the correlation. This captures ER=EPR’s core intuition (entanglement as geometric proximity) with far fewer assumptions—no duality, no holographic background, no new postulates—using only standard QM. The note recaps LL (definitional existence, operating setups), illustrates via double-slit and EPR examples, and derives the correlation–distance link from two premises (Consistency and Definitional Existence).

Algebraic ER=EPR and complexity transfer

Netta Engelhardt, Hong Liu

A bstract We propose an algebraic definition of ER=EPR in the G N → 0 limit, which associates bulk spacetime connectivity/disconnectivity to the operator algebraic structure of a quantum gravity system. The new formulation not only includes information on the amount of entanglement, but also more importantly the structure of entanglement . We give an independent definition of a quantum wormhole as part of the proposal. This algebraic version of ER=EPR sheds light on a recent puzzle regarding spacetime disconnectivity in holographic systems with $$ \mathcal{O} $$ O (1 /G N ) entanglement. We discuss the emergence of quantum connectivity in the context of black hole evaporation and further argue that at the Page time, the black hole-radiation system undergoes a transition involving the transfer of an emergent type III 1 subalgebra of high complexity operators from the black hole to radiation. We argue this is a general phenomenon that occurs whenever there is an exchange of dominance between two competing quantum extremal surfaces.

A Quantitative Examination of the Correspondence Between Spacetime Connectivity and Quantum Entanglement

HI-AI

[This is a creative exploration of a concept with AI -it should not be taken as correct mathematics.] We present a detailed examination of the conjectured correspondence between Einstein-Rosen (ER) bridges and Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) entanglement, denoted as ER=EPR. This examination concentrates on the quantitative structures and derivations supporting this correspondence, primarily within the setting of the Anti-de Sitter/Conformal Field Theory (AdS/CFT) duality. We analyze the realization of this correspondence in the eternal black hole geometry and its dual Thermofield Double (TFD) state. A complete exposition of the holographic entanglement entropy prescriptions is provided, including the derivation of the Quantum Extremal Surface (QES) prescription via the Lewkowycz-Maldacena argument concerning the gravitational path integral and conical singularities, and the subsequent derivation of the Jafferis-Lewkowycz-Maldacena-Suh (JLMS) relation establishing the equality of bulk and boundary relative entropies. We investigate the relationship between the temporal evolution of the spacetime geometry, characterized by the growth of the Einstein-Rosen bridge, and the evolution of quantum complexity. A complete derivation of the maximal volume growth rate is provided, carefully analyzing the geometry inside the horizon. Furthermore, a complete derivation of the action growth rate, supporting the Complexity=Action conjecture, is provided, clarifying the precise contribution of bulk, boundary, and joint terms in the gravitational action according to the definitions established by Lehner et al. for manifolds with null boundaries. The correspondence is extended to typical entangled states, characterized by Einstein-Rosen caterpillars. We derive the effective Hamiltonian governing the ensemble average of the generating random circuits and establish the quantitative relationship between the geometric length of the wormhole and the measure of quantum randomness (k-designs), utilizing the results of Magán, Sasieta, and Swingle. The role of QES and the derivation of the Page curve via replica wormholes are analyzed, detailing the calculations in Jackiw-Teitelboim gravity theories following Penington et al. Mechanisms for rendering wormholes traversable via boundary interactions (Gao-Jafferis-Wall construction) and operational interpretations based on Local Operationsand Classical Communication protocols are also discussed, emphasizing the quantitative consistency of these interconnected concepts.

Transfinite ER = EPR: A Categorical Bijection Between the Everett Branch Lattice and the Wormhole Configuration Space of Quantum Gravity

Zuhaib Ahmad

We unify the ER = EPR conjecture with the Many-Worlds Interpretation (MWI) by constructing a transfinite, bijective functor between the poset of entangled Everett branches and the space of Einstein-Rosen bridges. Leveraging the fact that the branching cardinality is at least $\beth_1$ (the cardinality of the continuum), we employ the axiom of choice and Cantor's transfinite recursion to define a one-to-one correspondence $\Phi: \mathcal{B} \times \mathcal{B} \to \Omega$, where $\mathcal{B}$ is the set of orthogonal branches and $\Omega$ the set of non-traversable ER bridge geometries. The mapping preserves unitarity, respects the no-communication theorem, and yields three falsifiable predictions: (i) a geometric correction to the decoherence functional, (ii) a generalised Ryu-Takayanagi formula for branch entanglement entropy, and (iii) a topological obstruction to non-Hausdorff branch merging. This work fills a precise gap in the literature and provides a rigorous mathematical foundation for ER = EPR in the Everett multiverse.

Crossed product algebras and generalized entropy for subregions

Shadi Ali Ahmad, Ro Jefferson

An early result of algebraic quantum field theory is that the algebra of any subregion in a QFT is a von Neumann factor of type III _{1} 1 , in which entropy cannot be well-defined because such algebras do not admit a trace or density states. However, associated to the algebra is a modular group of automorphisms characterizing the local dynamics of degrees of freedom in the region, and the crossed product of the algebra with its modular group yields a type II _∞ ∞ factor, in which traces and hence von Neumann entropy can be well-defined. In this work, we generalize recent constructions of the crossed product algebra for the TFD to, in principle, arbitrary spacetime regions in arbitrary QFTs, formally paving the way to the study of entanglement entropy without UV divergences. In contrast to previous works, we emphasize that this construction is independent of gravity. In this sense, the crossed product construction represents a refinement of Haag’s assignment of nets of observable algebras to spacetime regions by providing a natural construction of a type II factor. We present several concrete examples: a QFT in Rindler space, a CFT in an open ball of Minkowski space, and arbitrary boundary subregions in AdS/CFT. In the holographic setting, we provide a novel argument for why the bulk dual must be the entanglement wedge, and discuss the distinction arising from boundary modular flow between causal and entanglement wedges for excited states and disjoint regions.
