Abstract

The future of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) lies in the fusion of quantum computing and artificial intelligence, creating a synergistic framework capable of human-like cognitive reasoning and adaptability. This study examined how quantum–AI integration enhances computational efficiency, learning capacity, and contextual understanding beyond the limits of classical AI systems. The findings highlighted that quantum-inspired neural networks, through their ability to process complex data in parallel, can enable AGI systems to simulate decision-making, perception, and self-learning in a manner closer to human cognition. Moreover, the research emphasized the ethical and governance challenges that accompany such advancements, including issues of transparency, control, and the moral implications of autonomous systems. The study proposed that responsible innovation, combined with interdisciplinary collaboration, is essential for aligning AGI’s development with societal values and global policy frameworks. Overall, the quantum–AI synergy was found to be a critical driver toward achieving general intelligence, offering unprecedented potential for innovation across scientific, industrial, and educational domains while raising profound ethical considerations for the future of human–machine coexistence.

The integration of quantum computing and artificial intelligence (AI) has opened new frontiers for enhancing cognitive adaptability and advancing artificial general intelligence (AGI). This study explores the conceptual synergy between quantum–AI integration as an independent variable, cognitive adaptability as a mediating variable, and AGI cognitive performance as the dependent variable. By examining how quantum principles such as superposition and entanglement enhance AI’s capacity for non-linear reasoning, this research outlines a transformative model that aligns with human-like cognition. The study employs simulation-based analyses comparing classical and quantum–AI models across diverse cognitive tasks, revealing that quantum–AI systems outperform traditional AI in adaptability, problem generalization, and decision precision. The results indicate that quantum-enhanced learning enables faster adaptation and improved generalization, suggesting significant implications for cognitive modeling, human–machine collaboration, and AGI development. The theoretical contribution lies in expanding AGI’s cognitive architecture through quantum principles, while the practical implications include the development of adaptive, self-learning AI systems for complex, dynamic environments. Future research should explore empirical testing of quantum–AI frameworks, cross-disciplinary modeling between quantum cognition and neuroscience, and ethical considerations in autonomous decision-making systems.

Integrating quantum computing with artificial intelligence

Balajee Maram, Nagendar Yamsani, B. Santhosh Kumar +3 more

Quantum computing and artificial intelligence (AI) individually create massive waves in the oceans of technological innovation; however, when these two revolutionary powerhouses are combined, they have the potential to transform industries on a global scale. Quantum computing and AI are merging to redefine high-fidelity decision-making, combining raw processing power (“ultra-compute”) with adaptive intelligence (“ultra-learn”). This synergy unlocks unprecedented capabilities for solving complex problems beyond classical computing's reach. This capability to leverage quantum algorithms enables AI systems to handle easily larger and more sophisticated datasets, executing calculations at unprecedented speeds in the history of science. This leads to new configurations for machine learning, optimization, big data analysis, and more. Integrating these two modern fields must provide a means to circumvent many classical computing constraints, addressing the most challenging issues in medicine, finance, and cybersecurity. In particular, these foundational concepts are vital for any discussions regarding the convergence of quantum computing and AI or similar applications. As we embark on a new technological era, overcoming known computational barriers through the combination of quantum computing and AI models will be essential to achieving those technological milestones that will define our future. After all, innovation driven by AI applied to technology ensures progress.

Quantum artificial intelligence: Bridging innovation, ethics, and sustainability in a hybrid era

Ibrahim A. Atoum

The convergence of Quantum Computing (QC) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) ushers in a transformative era of computational capability, with profound implications for science and industry alongside significant technical, ethical, and environmental challenges. This article explores quantum-enhanced AI (QAI), focusing on foundational quantum principles—superposition, entanglement, and quantum parallelism—and their applications in molecular simulation, financial optimization, and climate modeling. While quantum algorithms offer exponential speedups for Machine Learning (ML) and optimization, persistent barriers such as qubit decoherence, scalability limitations, and high energy demands hinder progress. Hybrid quantum-classical architectures are identified as critical transitional tools, combining quantum processors for specialized tasks like combinatorial optimization with classical systems for error correction and data preprocessing. Near-term commercial healthcare, finance, and logistics applications are highlighted, including pilot projects using quantum neural networks (QNNs) for drug discovery, portfolio risk analysis, and supply chain optimization. However, dual-use risks—such as quantum-powered surveillance and threats to classical encryption—emphasize the need for post-quantum cryptography (PQC) and ethical frameworks. Environmental concerns, particularly the carbon footprint of superconducting qubits, drive calls for sustainable innovations like photonic qubit designs and renewable-powered quantum data centers. Anticipated milestones include fault-tolerant QNNs, standardized benchmarks for quantum advantage, and democratized cloud access. Achieving these goals requires addressing interdisciplinary talent shortages, algorithmic biases, and global disparities in quantum infrastructure. This work advocates for governance models integrating sustainability metrics and equity-focused policies to steer QAI development responsibly. By harmonizing technical innovation with ethical foresight, the quantum-AI synergy can advance solutions to global challenges while mitigating misuse and ecological harm risks.

Introduction to Quantum Computing and Artificial Intelligence

Gursewak Singh, Nimisha Singh, Ramandeep Sandhu +2 more

Quantum Artificial Intelligence (QAI) combines quantum computing with artificial intelligence (AI) to surpass the traditional barriers of classical computing systems, such as their inability to solve large-scale optimization problems or simulate complex quantum systems, which require exponentially increasing computational resources. Quantum computing, on the other hand, makes use of quantum mechanical phenomena of superposition, entanglement, and interference to process millions of data points in parallel, avoiding the exponential computation needed in many complex problems. QAI combines principles of quantum computing with AI techniques, thereby accelerating model learning. Some of the most notable applications include drug discovery in terms of exact predictions of molecular interactions, due to the enhancement of quantum simulations. There are cryptographic applications where QAI challenges classical encryption but also contains more advanced, non-breakable quantum cryptographic methods. In the same way as general advances in the field of data analysis and optimization, these domains would change: financial modeling, cybersecurity, and climate science. The biggest challenges remaining in scaling quantum hardware are noise and decoherence. Solutions will require major advances in quantum error correction, along with hybrid quantum-classical systems integrating the strengths of each. At this point, added to the list of critical concerns in the development of QAI are ethical considerations such as data privacy, algorithmic bias, and transparency. But all this notwithstanding, QAI has the transformative potential to solve problems that classical AI was unable to solve and drive innovation in domains ranging from healthcare and environmental science to cryptography and beyond. Unlocking its full capabilities and overcoming the resultant technical and ethical challenges is by way of further research and collaboration.
