Quantum-Trained Convolutional Neural Network for Deepfake Audio Detection

Chu-Hsuan Abraham Lin, Chen-Yu Liu, Samuel Yen-Chi Chen +1 more

The rise of deepfake technologies has posed significant challenges to privacy, security, and information integrity, particularly in audio and multimedia content. This paper introduces a Quantum-Trained Convolutional Neural Network (QT-CNN) framework designed to enhance the detection of deepfake audio, leveraging the computational power of quantum machine learning (QML). The QT-CNN employs a hybrid quantum-classical approach, integrating Quantum Neural Networks (QNNs) with classical neural architectures to optimize training efficiency while reducing the number of trainable parameters. Our method incorporates a novel quantum-to-classical parameter mapping that effectively utilizes quantum states to enhance the expressive power of the model, achieving up to 70% parameter reduction compared to classical models without compromising accuracy. Data pre-processing involved extracting essential audio features, label encoding, feature scaling, and constructing sequential datasets for robust model evaluation. Experimental results demonstrate that the QT-CNN achieves comparable performance to traditional CNNs, maintaining high accuracy during training and testing phases across varying configurations of QNN blocks. The QT framework’s ability to reduce computational overhead while maintaining performance underscores its potential for real-world applications in deepfake detection and other resource-constrained scenarios. This work highlights the practical benefits of integrating quantum computing into artificial intelligence, offering a scalable and efficient approach to advancing deepfake detection technologies.

Quantum Machine Learning for Audio Classification with Applications to Healthcare

Michael Esposito, Glen S. Uehara, Andreas Spanias

Accessible rapid COVID-19 testing continues to be necessary and several studies involving deep neural network (DNN) methods for detection have been published. As part of a sponsored NSF I/UCRC project, our team explored the use of deep learning algorithms for recognizing COVID-19 related cough audio signatures. More specifically, we have worked with several DNN algorithms and cough audio databases and reported results with the VGG-13 architecture. In this paper, we report a study on the use of quantum neural networks for audio signature detection and classification. A hybrid quantum neural network (QNN) model for COVID-19 cough classification is developed. The design of the QNN simulation architecture is described and results are given with and without quantum noise. Comparative results between classical and quantum neural network methods for COVID-19 audio detection are also presented.

Hybrid Continuous Variable Quantum Neural Network for Audio Classification

Zainab Aziz, Monika Agrawal

Audio classification is a key application in deep learning, and quantum machine learning (QML) provides new possibilities by capturing complex patterns in signals through parameterized quantum circuits. However, existing qubit-based models struggle to efficiently represent continuous-valued data common in audio processing, limiting their scalability and expressivity. Continuous Variable Quantum Computing (CVQC) offers a natural framework for processing real-valued data such as mel-spectrograms, addressing the limitations of qubit-based systems while introducing nonlinearity through non-gaussian gates to ensure universality. In CVQC, each qumode represents an infinite-dimensional Hilbert space, enabling compact yet expressive information representation. This work introduces a two-qumode Hybrid Continuous Variable Quantum Neural Network (HCVQNN) for audio classification that integrates classical neural layers with a CV quantum circuit for advanced feature extraction and encoding. Experiments conducted using PennyLane demonstrate that HCVQNN achieves comparable audio classification accuracy while requiring fewer resources compared to classical deep networks and qubit-based quantum models.
