Abstract

Quantum Computing (QC) has evolved into a computational model that can potentially solve problems of classes that cannot be solved by classical systems. This review gives a discussion on the innovation of software frameworks, experimental platforms and quantum computing tools used to compute quantum algorithm development, simulation and implementation. It concentrates on widely used programming environments, which compile abstract quantum models into practical workflows, including Cirq, TensorFlow Quantum, ProjectQ and Qiskit. The paper, besides describing the long-lasting problems related to scalability, error correction, and hardware reliability, also considers the architecture of the modern quantum computing platforms. Finally, new advances are outlined, such as quantum cloud service and the integration of artificial intelligence and quantum computing, and their role in the development of QC to viable and lucrative deployments. All in all, the discussion suggests that even now quantum computing still needs to be taken to the next level in terms of hardware infrastructure and software development that would allow progressing to the next stage of quantum technology testing and implementation.

Paramita Basak Upama, Md Jobair Hossain Faruk, Mohammad Taneem Bin Nazim +6 more

Quantum Computing (QC) refers to an emerging paradigm that inherits and builds with the concepts and phenomena of Quantum Mechanic (QM) with the significant potential to unlock a remarkable opportunity to solve complex and computationally intractable problems that scientists could not tackle previously. In recent years, tremendous efforts and progress in QC mark a significant milestone in solving real-world problems much more efficiently than classical computing technology. While considerable progress is being made to move quantum computing in recent years, significant research efforts need to be devoted to move this domain from an idea to a working paradigm. In this paper, we conduct a systematic survey and categorize papers, tools, frameworks, platforms that facilitate quantum computing and analyze them from an application and Quantum Computing perspective. We present quantum Computing Layers, Characteristics of Quantum Computer platforms, Circuit Simulator, Open-source Tools- Cirq, TensorFlow Quantum, ProjectQ etc. that allow implementing quantum programs in Python using a powerful and intuitive syntax. Following that, we discuss the current essence, identify open challenges, and provide future research direction. We conclude that scores of frameworks, tools and platforms are emerged in the past few years, improvement of currently available facilities would exploit the research activities in the quantum research community.

Elvis Gyamfi, Olaitan Ololade Funke, Olubukola Eunice Adebiyi +3 more

Quantum computing has emerged as a transformative computational paradigm capable of addressing limitations increasingly encountered by classical computing systems as Moore’s law approaches physical and economic constraints. By leveraging quantum mechanical principles such as superposition, entanglement, and interference, quantum systems offer the potential for significant computational advantages in solving complex problems that are currently infeasible for conventional architectures. This review critically synthesizes recent advances in quantum computing by examining foundational principles, major algorithmic breakthroughs, evolving hardware platforms, and interdisciplinary real-world applications. A structured narrative literature review was conducted using major scientific databases, including PubMed, IEEE Xplore, Nature, ScienceDirect, and arXiv, with emphasis on peer-reviewed studies, landmark foundational research, and major industry developments published between 2018 and 2026. Key findings indicate substantial progress in superconducting, trapped ion, photonic, and topological quantum systems, alongside innovations in algorithms such as Shor’s, Grover’s, variational quantum methods, and quantum machine learning. Despite these advancements, major challenges including decoherence, noise, scalability limitations, and fault-tolerant error correction remain substantial barriers to commercial maturity. Future implications suggest quantum computing may profoundly influence artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, optimization, molecular simulation, and scientific discovery, particularly through hybrid classical-quantum systems and cloud-based democratization. Although practical deployment remains transitional, quantum computing is positioned to become a foundational technology with broad scientific, industrial, and societal implications.
