This paper places the kinematics of quantum mechanics on a new mathematical foundation. From the self-containment of the totality, represented by the empty set under the iterated power set, one verdict supplies two orthogonal axes and an order-four rotation whose square reverses every direction. The one quadratic quantity the rotation leaves fixed is the Euclidean length, and under one stated condition, that the share of an outcome is quadratic in the coordinates, the same invariance fixes the square rule, the Born rule. A further doubling gives the state space with a relative phase and the two-valued spin with its double cover. Recorded frequency is constructed as a count and shown to agree with the share at the resolution of the reading. On that length the singlet correlation is the negative cosine of the angle between the settings, and the four-term combination is bounded by two times the square root of two, which is attained: this is why nature stops at the Tsirelson bound. The rotation is the imaginary unit of the standard formulation and the complex structure of the real formulations; produced with the continuum, it survives any real rewrite. One tested claim follows, that scalar phases on one mode commute, confirmed to 0.03 degrees, and one reading, that extension between two systems is realized in the measurement relating them.

Union Dipole Theory postulates two distinct channels of transfer: the particle moves through the permeable medium at a bounded speed, while a disturbance within that medium is stated to propagate at an unbounded one (Al-Mayahi, 2014). This paper asks what that structure implies for correlated pairs, and obtains the singlet joint distribution and the Tsirelson value from a single principle. The principle is single-valuedness of the internal phase — the same condition that produced the phase-closure result of the companion paper. Applied to a pair, it does two things at once. It indexes admissible transitions by integers, so that a shared pair quantum resolves into one channel and not partly into both. And, applied to the two pair channels as degrees of freedom of the medium, it fixes their action integrals, which for a linear medium are proportional to the stored energy. The channel weights are therefore not an added rule about rates: they are what closure gives. One condition supplies both the counting and the quadratic weighting. The consequences follow without further assumption. Writing the pair on its shared internal phase, the two channel amplitudes are 2cos(θ/2)cos φ and −2sin(θ/2)sin φ. Their closed action integrals stand in the ratio cos²(θ/2) to sin²(θ/2); a single shared quantum normalises them; and the correlation is E = −a·b with a CHSH maximum of exactly 2√2. An inversion symmetry then fixes the four joint outcome probabilities uniquely and makes the single-station marginals exactly one half at every angle, so no-signalling holds for the construction and not only for the architecture. Three negative controls are computed rather than asserted, and each is derived in closed form. Extracting outcomes by any local rule gives −(1 − 2θ/π) and |S| = 2 exactly. Sending the indivisible transition to the channel of larger instantaneous drive gives the same linear correlation and the same value 2, and no threshold weight repairs it. Weighting the channels by amplitude rather than by action gives S = 1.657 at the standard settings and, on optimisation over the four settings, exactly 2. All three controls therefore terminate at the Bell bound, and the distance between 2 and 2√2 is attributable to the closure measure and to nothing else in the construction. Two structural results complete the account. The correlation is independent of distance because it is a ratio: any common factor multiplying both channel weights — the inverse-square attenuation of the medium included — cancels identically between numerator and denominator, so the disturbance law is obeyed in full while the correlation does not register it. And a residual anisotropy of the medium leaves every prediction unchanged: perfect anticorrelation at zero angle survives at every order, and the CHSH maximum remains exactly 2√2 on the circular sections of the response ellipsoid. Finally, generalising the channel weighting to an arbitrary exponent shows that the correlation is an ordinary cosine for exactly one value, n = 2, and that the maximal CHSH value is strictly increasing in the exponent and passes through 2√2 at exactly that value. The position of the quantum ceiling is thereby tied to a constitutive property — the quadratic, that is linearly elastic, response of the medium — which is itself what the closure condition selects. The framework is not a local hidden-variable theory, does not evade Bell’s theorem, and lies outside the class the theorem constrains; this is stated as a classification and not as an achievement. What is read rather than derived is named, and what remains open is named: in particular, no dynamical account is given of how the shared medium delivers the single transition to one channel across two separated stations. Two appendices follow. The first compares the predicted angular form with Bell correlations reported on three physically unrelated platforms, spanning CHSH values from 2.07 to 2.71, all of which report the same angular form: strength varies, shape does not. The second sets out a two-coordinate hardware diagnostic which follows from the result and which is the subject of United Kingdom patent application GB 2619873.9, filed 26 August 2026. Complex Hilbert space is usually assumed at the start of quantum mechanics. This paper formulates a reverse construction for the one-particle and operator-algebraic setting. Starting from a real Hilbert space carrying an orthogonal representation, the admissible imaginary units are identified with the skew-adjoint square roots of − Id in the Real commutant of the complexified representation. The novelty is not the isolated use of complexification, spectral orientation, or polar decomposition, but their order of dependence: first the symmetry representation defines an intrinsic operator-valued phase space; then an oriented internal time flow selects a distinguished point of that phase space; only afterward are the usual complex one-particle, observable, probability, and Weyl–CCR structures invoked under their standard hypotheses. In the terminology used here, this oriented internal flow is the reversible or inner-generative side of a dual-time distinction. It is not a second observer clock and not an additional Lorentzian coordinate: mathematically it is the strongly continuous orthogonal group U ( t ) = exp ( t A ) on the real Hilbert space. Its Stone-dual variable is energy/frequency λ ; canonical conjugation pairs λ with − λ ; positive energy orients this pair and selects the canonical phase on the dynamic sector through A = J | A | = | A | J . Thus inner-generative time is the source of phase orientation, while irreversible record time, projection, memory, and decoherence enter only as later reduced-dynamics layers. No spectral gap at zero is required, and zero modes remain visible as residual phase data rather than being hidden by the construction. The selected phase is invariant under time-orientation-preserving symmetries and changes sign under time reversal, giving the usual antiunitary action after complex reconstruction. The paper also makes explicit the monoidal limitation: two selected local phases do not make the raw real tensor product the standard composite system; the standard composite is recovered only after imposing the J -balanced, equivalently complex, tensor product rule. Thus the result is a reconstruction of compatible complex kinematics on the selected one-particle/operator-algebraic sector, not a derivation of all quantum foundations from purely real data.
For finite-dimensional binary systems and their bipartite composites, this paper establishes a conditional representation chain from a physical–observation dual-axis structure to quantum Bell correlations. An observational fact is jointly generated by a complete physical state and a complete observation state. Additivity and associativity of coherent responses, two-sided cancellation, and a full circle group of scalar phase transport select C among finite-dimensional unital associative real response algebras. Reversible mixing then determines a Hermitian metric up to an overall positive factor. Normalized two-channel responses form S3, and quotienting by their common phase yields the rank-one observation-event space and, with an outcome label, the pure observation fiber S3/U(1)=CP1≃S2. The universal bilinear composite of two independent systems is C4. Probabilities are first assigned within complete measurement contexts. Events with the same response filter are operationally interchangeable, so the local assignments glue along the observation axis into a positive orthogonally additive measure on the full projection lattice. Gleason's theorem then gives the unique trace representation p(P∣x)=Tr(ρxP), while composite marginal consistency returns the trace pairing to each local binary fiber. Every two-qubit correlation therefore has the universal form Eρ(a,b)=aTTρb. Joint rotational invariance and perfect equal-axis anticorrelation uniquely fix Tρ=−I3, producing the singlet cosine law E=−a⋅b=−cosθ. Finally, the local commutators in the squared CHSH operator confine all realizable correlations to 22. Fine-measurement completeness supplies saturating directions, while sharp preparation and reversible covariance make the singlet accessible. Thus CP1, the Born pairing, the cosine correlation law, and the Tsirelson bound arise within one chain linking phase structure, independent composition, and cross-context probability consistency.
Dirac called the imaginary unit in the Schrödinger equation the deepest thing in quantum mechanics, and admitted he did not understand it. This note offers a candidate: i is the complex place of a single number — Q, the real root of x⁴ − x − 1 — and the strangeness of quantum mechanics is the strangeness of that one number's arithmetic, seen from the inside. For a century quantum theory has been taught as a list of postulates — complex amplitudes, a Born rule, unitary evolution, a dagger — accepted because they work and never because they are understood. Grant a single identification, that the state space of a quantum system is the complex place of Q's field, and those postulates stop being assumptions. They become theorems. The imaginary unit is the field's complex structure; the dagger is Galois conjugation; observables are real because they are Galois-fixed; unitary evolution is the field's unit circle; and the Born rule — the squared modulus, long the least-explained law in physics — is the field's own norm, made unique by Gleason's theorem. Time reversal and charge conjugation appear as named elements of the Galois group S₄, the Weyl group of su(4). And a proved theorem locates the classical/quantum boundary precisely: in the family xⁿ − x − 1 the root is Pisot — its powers settle, its world definite — only through three dimensions, and at the fourth that settling fails. That, on the reading proposed here, is where the classical world ends and the quantum world begins. The dozen postulates of the physics textbooks are thus compressed to one here, named plainly as a posit, with every claim labeled at its evidential tier and the composition of many systems left as the open edge. It is not a metaphor and not a fit. Quantum Mechanics is the arithmetic of a single number — and, at last, a single thing to be right or wrong about.
Quantum Theory as the Operational Shadow of the M--A Channel: a Substratum Reconstruction in Absolute Frame Theory
The reconstruction program of quantum foundations asks why nature is described by complex Hilbert spaces with the Born rule, and why its correlations stop at the Tsirelson bound rather than saturating the no-signaling limit. Absolute Frame Theory (AFT) embeds the observable four-dimensional manifold M in a continuous Euclidean substratum A carrying a pilot wave Ψ, with an information-bottleneck channel that projects A onto M and traces out an inaccessible fiber. We propose that finite-dimensional quantum theory is the operational shadow of that channel---the channel viewed from within M, restricted to its M-accessible, identifiable part---and we carry out the reconstruction in that reading. This is a program, not a completed theorem: we mark every claim as derived, as a structural correspondence, or as an open frontier, and we state plainly that AFT is not yet formulated as an operational-probabilistic theory in full rigor and that the complex Hilbert structure is here a mechanism (the analytic-signal representation of the channel's sampling), not a posit. Within those limits the reconstruction reduces the why-of-quantum-theory to a single physical fact---the M--A signature transition, the Euclidean-to-Lorentzian Wick rotation---of which the complex structure and the Born rule are the two faces. Concretely, a linear map carries both the complex generator and the conserved ∣Ψ∣2 density if and only if it is unitary. The same signature transition is, in AFT, the root of parity violation and of the arrow of time; quantum theory, parity violation, and time's arrow thus share one origin. The operator-level complex structure that makes the theory locally tomographic is supplied by the Osterwalder--Schrader reconstruction about that single Euclidean time---reflection positivity being a theorem for the free embedding sector and preserved, by a local Feynman--Kac argument, for static configurations---hence complex quantum theory is derived, not posited, in the static sector. The named open frontier is then the time-dependent and interacting reconstruction, while the Born measure ∣ψ∣2 is shown to be the equivariant density of the reconstructed unitary and generic macroscopic matter is derived to be classical, leaving only the strict Dürr--Goldstein--Zanghì uniqueness open. That the embedding yields the Lorentzian signature, and with it emergent local Lorentz invariance, is established in a companion paper on emergent Lorentz invariance.
Evidence Paper VI of the Existence Equation series. From Born rule to Bell inequality: one observer to two. In the parent work (The Existence Equation), the Born rule P = |Ψ|² is not an axiom but a derived consequence: the condensation term α|Ψ|²Ψ projects the continuous phase of the deviation field onto discrete binary outcomes (±1), and time-averaging the projected phase recovers cos θ correlations — verified by simulation on a 256³ lattice (hydrogen s-orbital, 30,000 steps). The Born rule emerges from the measurement geometry of one observer. If the Born rule for one observer is a consequence of ED's condensation mechanism, then for two observers sharing a single conserved field (Ψ_A + Ψ_B = 0), the Tsirelson bound S = 2√2 follows as pure measurement geometry. The Bell inequality violation is not a separate mystery — it is the natural two-observer extension of the same mechanism that produces the Born rule. Input: 2 items. The "Classical" configuration in the table below has |u| + |v| = 2√2 — the ceiling is fully available — yet achieves only S = 2. What differs is the correlation function. Separable hidden variables produce piecewise-linear correlations. Only cos θ correlations — which ED derives from field conservation, not from Hilbert space — can saturate the ceiling. The structural reading of Bell violation: Standard quantum mechanics treats the Born rule as an axiom and calculates 2√2 through Hilbert space operator norms. The Existence Equation derives the Born rule from condensation, then explains 2√2 as the geometric consequence of applying that same mechanism to two observers sharing a conserved field. The Bell inequality violation is not evidence for non-locality — it is evidence for non-separability of a single conserved deviation field. The Bell inequality violation is not spooky. It is geometric. It measures the diagonal of the binary measurement lattice.
