Abstract

This paper proposes a novel approach to deep learning model architecture design by leveraging the principles of quantum annealing. The core idea is to map the complex search space of deep learning architectures to the energy landscape of a quantum annealing system. The quantum annealing algorithm is then employed to explore this landscape, iteratively minimizing the energy and ultimately identifying a globally optimal or near-optimal architecture. We introduce a framework integrating deep learning architecture search with quantum annealing, addressing the limitations of classical optimization methods prone to getting trapped in local minima. The method's effectiveness is demonstrated conceptually through a detailed architecture design process, highlighting the potential for accelerated discovery of superior models. The key contributions include a methodology for translating architectural parameters into a quantum annealing problem formulation and a strategy for interpreting the resulting quantum annealing solution as a viable deep learning architecture. Further research will focus on optimizing the annealing process and exploring different quantum annealing hardware platforms.

Quantum-Inspired Optimization for Deep Neural Network Architecture Search

Jincheng Zhang

The process of designing optimal deep neural network architectures is a computationally expensive and often manual task. Traditional gradient-based optimization methods struggle to efficiently explore the vast architectural search space, leading to sub-optimal designs. This research proposes a novel approach leveraging quantum-inspired optimization techniques, specifically quantum annealing, to accelerate the architecture search process. We formulate the architecture search problem as a minimization task within a quantum annealing landscape. The objective function is designed to reflect the performance metrics of a given neural network architecture. Our approach offers a potentially more efficient method for discovering high-performing architectures by harnessing the principles of quantum mechanics, particularly superposition and tunneling, to navigate the complex search space. The core claim is that gradient-based optimization is often inefficient for this task, and quantum annealing provides a viable alternative. This paper outlines the theoretical framework and proposes an initial methodology for applying quantum annealing to deep neural network architecture search.

Hyperparameter Optimization via Evolutionary Quantum Annealing

Jincheng Zhang

This paper proposes a novel approach to hyperparameter optimization for deep learning models, termed Evolutionary Quantum Annealing (EQA). Traditional hyperparameter optimization techniques, such as grid search and Bayesian optimization, often suffer from significant computational costs, particularly when dealing with complex model architectures and large hyperparameter spaces. EQA addresses this limitation by integrating the strengths of quantum annealing and evolutionary algorithms. Specifically, the algorithm utilizes quantum tunneling to efficiently explore the hyperparameter landscape, mitigating the problem of getting trapped in local optima that commonly plagues classical evolutionary methods. The core of EQA involves encoding the hyperparameter optimization problem as a quantum Ising model, followed by a simulated annealing process driven by an evolutionary algorithm. The evolutionary algorithm guides the quantum annealing process, refining the solution space and accelerating convergence. We demonstrate the efficacy of EQA through a theoretical analysis and outline its potential advantages over conventional methods. The key contribution lies in the synergistic combination of these two powerful optimization paradigms, offering a potentially faster and more robust solution for hyperparameter tuning in deep learning.
