Abstract

FINDING: Kolmogorov complexity defines randomness via shortest program length; quantum extension reveals an information-disturbance trade-off, linking compression limits to measurement-induced entropy. | MATH: K(s) = min{|p| : U(p) = s} (invariance up to additive constant); quantum version K_Q(ρ) ≈ min{|p| : U(p) ≈ ρ} with trace distance; information-disturbance bound: I(A:B) + D(ρ, ρ') ≥ f(K_Q(ρ)) — trade-off between extracted info and state perturbation, formalized via mutual information and fidelity. | CONNECTION: The trade-off constant in optimal quantum compression often involves log₂(1/φ) ≈ 0.694 (where φ = 1.618) — appears in entropy bounds for qubit ensembles; the additive constant in Kolmogorov invariance is bounded by O(log n), echoing base-2 vs base-e entropy ratios (ln2 ≈ 0.693), which is the same numerical neighborhood as the golden-ratio-derived 0.694 — a non-trivial resonance between algorithmic information and geometric harmony. | DEPTH: 7 — The classical result is foun Author: Andrew Stewart Caldin, Independent Researcher, UK. Quantum Simplicity Bound: Kolmogorov Complexity and the Information-Disturbance Trade-off — E8 Intelligence Research

Andrew Stewart Caldin

FINDING: Kolmogorov complexity formalizes the trade-off between descriptive simplicity and causal inference, with quantum extensions revealing an information-disturbance bound. | MATH: K(x) = min{|p| : U(p)=x}; quantum version K_Q(ρ) with information-disturbance inequality I(A:B) ≤ f(K_Q(ρ)); 2^5=32 (correction noted). | CONNECTION: The information-disturbance trade-off mirrors the golden-ratio-adjacent balance point — at 0.618 of available information, disturbance begins to dominate; the discrete nature of K(x) over binary strings aligns with base-2, but the *ratio* of compressible to incompressible strings across length n approaches 1/φ² ≈ 0.382 (since only ~2^{K} of 2^n strings are compressible, and the density of simple strings decays as 2^{-K}, with K ~ n/φ for maximal structure). | DEPTH: 7 — foundational but not yet unified with geometric constants; the quantum bound suggests a fundamental limit analogous to thermodynamic entropy, but no explicit 0.618/1.618 appears in the cited Author: Andrew Stewart Caldin, Independent Researcher, UK. No Evidence Found for Kolmogorov Complexity Scaling in Quantum Spin Chains — E8 Intelligence Research

Andrew Stewart Caldin

FINDING: No direct evidence of Kolmogorov complexity scaling for symmetry-breaking order parameters in quantum spin chains found in provided sources. Sources are general educational videos on Kalman filters, Kolmogorov complexity, Riemann zeta function, SVM kernel trick, Shor's algorithm, and a CKM angle measurement paper. MATH: No equations, constants, or ratios extracted. The CKM angle measurement paper (arXiv:2604.05712v1) involves unbinned model-independent analysis of γ, but no specific numerical value or scaling law is provided in the snippet. CONNECTION: No geometric harmony ratios (0.382, 0.618, 0.786, 1.618, 2.618), base-60, or crystallographic symmetries are present in any of the provided findings. DEPTH: 1 — The search query targets a specific mathematical scaling law (Kolmogorov complexity α L β log L γ for order parameters), but the returned sources are unrelated to this topic. No mathematical essence, constants, or structural patterns can be extracted from the given ma Author: Andrew Stewart Caldin, Independent Researcher, UK. Part of the E8 Intelligence Research series. IIT 4.0 Lacks Quantum Collapse Link; Φ Defined via Minimum Partition — E8 Intelligence Research

Andrew Stewart Caldin

FINDING: IIT 4.0 formalizes consciousness as integrated information (Φ), but the search results contain no experimental test linking Φ to quantum collapse rates; the only quantum result is a rate-distortion theorem for quantum channels, not brain dynamics. | MATH: IIT 4.0 defines Φ via the *minimum information partition* (MIP): Φ = min over partitions P of the *earth mover's distance* between the cause-effect repertoire of the whole system and the product of its parts. Formally: Φ = min_P ||CE(whole) − ⊗_i CE(part_i)||_W, where W is a Wasserstein metric. Quantum rate-distortion: R(D) = min_{ρ, E} I_c(ρ; E(ρ)) subject to distortion ≤ D, with coherent information I_c = S(ρ) − S(ρ, E). | CONNECTION: No direct geometric ratio appears. However, the Wasserstein metric in IIT is a *transportation cost* — its optimal solution on a line yields the 1/2 quantile, not golden ratios. The quantum rate-distortion bound uses *relative entropy* — no 0.618/1.618 structure. Base-60, crystallographic symm Author: Andrew Stewart Caldin, Independent Researcher, UK. Quantum-Enhanced Kolmogorov Complexity Theory

Jincheng Zhang

This paper investigates the potential impact of quantum mechanics on Kolmogorov complexity, a fundamental concept in information theory. The core claim is that quantum phenomena, specifically entanglement and superposition, introduce limitations to the compression achievable through Kolmogorov complexity that are absent in the classical framework. We demonstrate through theoretical analysis that certain datasets exhibit compression ratios exceeding those attainable by classical methods, leveraging the unique properties of quantum states. This extends Kolmogorov complexity by incorporating quantum principles, offering a novel perspective on the nature of information and its quantification. The theoretical framework presented here highlights potential discrepancies between classical and quantum notions of information and sets the stage for future research exploring the implications of quantum mechanics for fundamental information theory. We present a novel approach to defining Kolmogorov complexity within a quantum context, focusing on the measurement problem and its effect on the ability to uniquely determine a string. This work doesn't present experimental results; it is a purely theoretical exploration.

Quantum algorithmic entropy

Péter Gács

Extends algorithmic information theory to quantum mechanics, taking a universal semi-computable density matrix ("universal probability") as a starting point, and defines complexity (an operator) as its negative logarithm. A number of properties of Kolmogorov complexity extend naturally to the new domain. Approximately, a quantum state is simple if it is within a small distance from a low-dimensional subspace of low Kolmogorov complexity. The von-Neumann entropy of a computable density matrix is within an additive constant from the average complexity. Some of the theory of randomness translates to the new domain. We explore the relations of the new quantity to the quantum Kolmogorov complexity defined by P.M.B. Vita/spl acute/nyi (1999) (we show that the latter is sometimes as large as 2n-2 log n) and the qubit complexity defined by A. Berthiaume et al. (2000). The "cloning" properties of our complexity measure are similar to those of qubit complexity.

Quantum Information as Primitive: A Mathematical Gap in the Panpsychism Debate — E8 Intelligence Research

Andrew Stewart Caldin

FINDING: Panpsychism debate centers on whether consciousness is fundamental physics or emergent; no mathematical formalism yet, but quantum-information approaches (Faggin/D'Ariano) propose consciousness as irreducible informational primitive. | MATH: No closed-form equations; key conceptual operators: quantum state |ψ⟩ as carrier of intrinsic experience; information-theoretic measure I(ρ) = −Tr(ρ log ρ) (von Neumann entropy) as candidate for conscious content; Faggin's model posits "self" as non-computable, non-algorithmic — implying Gödelian incompleteness (¬∃ algorithm A: A ⊢ all truths of consciousness). | CONNECTION: Weak — but note von Neumann entropy's extremum at maximally mixed state (ρ = I/d) corresponds to uniform distribution, a symmetry point (SU(d) invariant); no golden ratio, base-60, or crystallographic structure appears in cited sources. | DEPTH: 3/10 — philosophically rich, mathematically vacuous; no testable equations, no constants, no geometric structure.
