Abstract

Quantum finance represents an emerging frontier at the intersection of quantum computing and financial technology, offering new approaches to solving complex financial problems that classical computational methods cannot. This chapter examines how quantum computing principles, including superposition and entanglement, can enhance financial modelling, optimisation, and risk analysis. It discusses the application of quantum algorithms to key financial activities, including portfolio optimisation, derivative pricing, fraud detection, and credit risk assessment. The chapter also explores the role of quantum machine learning in improving predictive analytics and decision-making in high-dimensional financial datasets. In addition, the potential of quantum cryptography to strengthen cybersecurity within financial systems is analysed. While the technological capabilities of quantum computing present significant opportunities for innovation and efficiency in financial markets, the chapter highlights important constraints, including hardware limitations, algorithmic maturity, regulatory uncertainty, and the shortage of specialised expertise. The discussion concludes that quantum finance is likely to become a critical component of next-generation financial infrastructure as technological capabilities mature.

Quantum Computing Applications in Financial Modeling

Narendra Karmarkar

Quantum computing has emerged as a revolutionary computational paradigm capable of solving complex optimization and probabilistic problems that are computationally expensive for classical computers. The financial industry, characterized by large-scale datasets, uncertainty, stochastic behavior, and multidimensional optimization challenges, is increasingly exploring quantum computing to enhance decision-making processes. This paper presents a comprehensive investigation into the applications of quantum computing in financial modeling, emphasizing portfolio optimization, derivative pricing, risk assessment, fraud detection, and algorithmic trading. Unlike conventional computational techniques that suffer from exponential complexity when processing high-dimensional financial data, quantum algorithms leverage superposition, entanglement, and quantum parallelism to improve computational efficiency and solution quality. The study discusses fundamental quantum computing concepts, analyzes existing financial modeling frameworks, and examines how quantum algorithms such as Quantum Approximate Optimization Algorithm (QAOA), Variational Quantum Eigensolver (VQE), Quantum Monte Carlo (QMC), Grover’s Search Algorithm, and Quantum Machine Learning (QML) contribute to solving real-world financial problems. Furthermore, the paper reviews recent research developments, identifies implementation challenges associated with noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) devices, and highlights future opportunities for hybrid quantum-classical financial systems. The findings demonstrate that quantum computing has significant potential to transform computational finance by improving prediction accuracy, accelerating optimization tasks, and enabling scalable financial analytics for next-generation intelligent financial ecosystems.

Quantum Finance: Revolutionizing Financial Markets with Quantum Computing

Manzoor Ansari, Aashita Chhabra, Nabeela Hasan +1 more

Quantum finance is a new paradigm in financial market operations, based on the principles of quantum computing in solving highly complex problems with efficiency. This chapter covers some basic ideas of quantum finance through its historical context and the role it has played in surmounting the limitations of classical financial models. The chapter commences with the basics, including the need for an introduction to quantum mechanics, qubits, quantum gates, and algorithms that can be applied in financial applications to demonstrate how quantum computing can change finance. We discuss some of those areas where this technology is bound to make an impact: in portfolio optimization, quantum computing considers several combinations of assets at a time; in risk management, improved models will allow for better predictions of market movements; in derivative pricing, the calculations are faster and more accurate; and in fraud detection, it enables one to execute better analysis of transactional data. The advancement of quantum finance is linked to the need to resolve ethical, legal, and technical obstacles while integrating with traditional financial institutions. The financial markets will be a key source of innovation that will drive efficiency, precision, and invention to previously unheard-of heights, given the direction that quantum computing technology is expected to take. Thus, the chapter ends with a call for more study and cooperation to fully grasp quantum finance's transformative potential.

Quantum Strategies in Finance

S. Ida Evangeline, Mohammad Zahid, Swati Gupta

Quantum computing is poised to revolutionize financial intelligence by offering unprecedented computational power for solving complex problems in portfolio optimization and risk assessment. As financial markets become increasingly data-driven and interconnected, classical computational methods struggle to handle the exponential growth of financial data and the complexity of optimization challenges. Novel quantum algorithms, such as quantum approximate optimization algorithm, variational quantum Eigensolver and quantum enhanced Monte Carlo simulations, offer new ways of asset allocation, risk modelling and predictive analytics. In this chapter, we discuss how quantum computing can be used to optimize portfolio management strategies via efficient solutions to constrained optimization problems and subsequently enhanced risk and return tradeoffs. Furthermore, quantum machine learning techniques improve risk assessment models by providing better credit risk analysis, liquidity risk forecasting, and modeling volatility.

Quantum finance in the age of quantum computing: addressing challenges, unlocking opportunities, and shaping the future

Prihana Vasishta, Tushar Saini, Anju Singla

Quantum technology is evolving rapidly with a potential to influence financial services. While quantum computing offers strong prospects for improving predictive analytics, risk management, and portfolio optimisation, its integration into financial systems remains constrained by algorithmic redesign requirements and technological limitations. This study reviews and synthesises research at the intersection of quantum computing and finance to map prevailing trends, thematic concentrations, and future inquiry paths. A systematic search of Web of Science and Scopus (2000–2023) identified 75 relevant studies, which were analysed using VOSViewer and Biblioshiny. The analysis shows that scholarly interest in quantum applications to finance accelerates only after 2020, indicating a temporal lag relative to the broader quantum computing literature. Four thematic clusters emerge: quantum cryptography and security, financial data processing, quantum algorithms for finance, and quantum machine learning. These areas reflect differing levels of maturity but reveal a shared emphasis on high-complexity modelling, enhanced data processing, and secure transaction frameworks. The review underscores the need for deeper algorithmic refinement, robust validation of financial use cases, and interdisciplinary collaboration among physicists, computer scientists, and finance researchers. Advancing these fronts will be essential for translating quantum potential into practical, scalable financial innovations.

Quantum machine learning in finance: A brief review

Anisurrahman, Bashir Alam, Muhammad Hamid

The synergy between quantum computing and machine learning gives future potential in the financial sector. The unique features such as superposition and entanglement in quantum computing are utilized in Quantum Machine Learning (QML) to solve the challenges that dominate the modern era of finance. The subject of this paper explains the use of Quantum Machine Learning (QML) in finance including risk management, portfolio optimization, market trend forecasting, and fraud detection. In portfolio optimization, the aim is to reduce risk at the same time maximizing return, the quantum-enhanced methodology does it better than the classical method. QML is applied for risk analysis because it efficiently computes values such as Value-at-Risk (VaR) and Conditional Value-at-Risk (CVaR). In finance, improved sentiment analysis, anomaly detection to prevent fraud, and prediction of market trends are enabled with QML algorithms. QML improves credit rating, financial time series forecasting, and derivative pricing with its ability to process large amounts of data.
