Background The textbook dichotomy between bosons and fermions is commonly presented as a primitive classification of nature. This paper argues that the dichotomy is a derived, dimension-dependent shadow of a single structural relation: the exchange phase of identical particles equals their topological spin, R = e^{2πis}. The relation holds across relativistic quantum field theory, topological field theory, and condensed-matter anyon systems; dimension enters only by quantizing the allowed values of the spin parameter. Methodology The invariant is stated in the language of ribbon braided tensor categories (twist equals braiding trace). A distinction-based calculus - whose primitive is the act of drawing a boundary - is then examined: a recent monograph in this tradition silently adopts the symmetric algebra for its exponential modality, corresponding to bosonic statistics, without deriving that choice from the primitive. The paper formalizes the required construction (two modal exponentials, symmetric and exterior; the braiding of two marks in a compact closed category; the ribbon condition) and states falsifiability conditions F1 and F2 under which the derivation program succeeds or fails. The boson/fermion dichotomy is conventionally presented as a primitive classification of nature. Recent work established that the underlying invariant is the relation between the exchange phase of identical particles and their topological spin, R = e^(2 pi i s), with the dichotomy as its shadow in three spatial dimensions. This paper examines whether a calculus whose only primitive is the act of drawing a distinction can generate this invariant rather than importing it as an axiom. The re-entrant mark of the calculus of indications, disciplined by linearity, already generates the constants e and pi as logical scalars: e as the fixed point of D f = f, and pi as the trace of the identity on the circle type. The central observation: the exchange phase is the (2s)-fold half-turn of the re-entrant mark, R = (e^(i pi))^(2s) = e^(2 pi i s) = (-1)^(2s), so the boson/fermion dichotomy is the parity of 2s. The arithmetic is established; the identification is a model; the claim that the calculus derives the invariant as a logical scalar within a single formal system is a conjecture with explicit falsifiability conditions. Source repository (provenance): https://github.com/QNFO/qnfo-research/tree/res/paper/exchange-phase-logical-scalar **So what (v1.1).** This revision adds the P3-verified citation corpus (including the closest prior art: Kauffman's mark-to-fermion-algebra construction, arXiv:1301.6214, and the 2013 World Scientific predecessor) and the P4 formal derivation of the exchange phase as the (2s)-fold half-turn monodromy power in the treatise's Part VIII system. Reader value: a minimal-premise engine for exchange statistics (parity of 2s), a sharpened handle for the ZBW-Majorana Z2 diagnostic (spin noise / EELS-RIXS / Gromov delta protocols), and executable toy models (T1-T7 suite, 10.5281/zenodo.21943007). **v1.3 (2026-08-16):** adds the FQ2 consilience result — the p-adic anyon phases (10.5281/zenodo.21208491/21208368) are, under the archimedean embedding, exactly the (e^{iπ})^{2s} family at rational spins s = m/(2p^k); the monodromy-power reading is CONSISTENT with the p-adic braid-group construction (disconfirmation not met). Bridge artifact + ZBW-Majorana P4 cross-reference deposited.
Configuration-space topology (CST) derives exchange statistics from the topology of the space in which identical particles move: the fundamental group pi_1(C_N(M)) is the symmetric group S_N in d >= 3 spatial dimensions (exactly two exchange phases: boson +1, fermion -1) and the braid group B_N in d = 2 (anyons, including the non-abelian braiding used in topological quantum computation). This paper draws the boundary of that framework. It names the five silent scaffolds CST imports from classical geometry -- point-like particles, a fixed background manifold, the deleted hard-core diagonal, externally imposed dimension, adiabatic exchange -- and engages the active counter-literature testing each one (orbifolds, traid groups, graph configuration spaces, extended objects, supersymmetric anyons). It concedes the framework's hard boundary: the spin-statistics connection requires Lorentz symmetry, microcausality, and positive energy, which no topological or logical argument supplies. Against this boundary it reports the status of the QNFO pre-registered derivation program (exchange phase as a logical scalar R = e^{2 pi i s} from the re-entrant mark): T2 now carries construction content -- the +/-1 dichotomy is the ribbon identity evaluated in the d >= 3 sector; T1 is partially constructed; T3 is restated with named boundary conditions. It then states a synthesis conjecture -- the Distinction Calculus lifted into homotopy type theory, with the Grothendieck-Teichmuller group acting on braided monoidal categories, renders boundary-drawing an arithmetic act -- with explicit falsification conditions F1-F3, and differentiates it from the cohesive-HoTT program of Sati and Schreiber. The paper proves no new theorem; its contribution is a verified boundary map of a mature framework and a falsifiable route toward the logical origin of quantum statistics.

Title: Formal Supplement: End-to-End Derivation from Finite Enforcement Capacity to Quantum Structure Authors: Brooke, E. S. Description: Self-contained formal supplement to "The Enforceability of Distinction: Quantum Structure from Finite Enforcement Capacity" (Paper 1 of the Admissibility Physics Framework series). Derives finite-dimensional quantum mechanical structure — Hilbert space, C*-algebra, Born rule, Tsirelson bound, no-broadcasting — from a single resource-theoretic axiom (A1: finite enforcement capacity), one regularity condition (MD: uniform per-test cost floor), one richness premise (BW: budget-window triple), and constitutive admissibility semantics (SP, K3, FD1–FD6). The derivation proceeds in three tiers. The core chain (A1 + MD + BW + constitutive semantics) produces: a finite-dimensional real vector space with sector decomposition, a sector-orthogonal bilinear form forced by disjoint-support additivity (K3), self-adjoint enforcement projections, superadditive joint enforcement costs, a noncommutative real *-algebra, Wedderburn–Artin block decomposition, a GNS Hilbert-space representation, and a faithful positive state constructed from enforcement data. Field selection excludes real nonclassical blocks via state-separation completeness (T2c.1, single-interface, proved) and quaternionic blocks via composition closure (T2c.2, multi-interface, conditional). Standard quantum corollaries — Born rule (via Busch's generalized Gleason theorem), Tsirelson bound (via the Cirel'son identity), monogamy, and no-broadcasting — follow within the derived algebraic skeleton. Key features: (1) explicit variational framework for joint enforcement, including admissible defender class, projection reduction lemma, Grassmannian existence proof, and a theorem that all optimal joint defenders have nontrivial pool support when the superadditivity surplus is positive; (2) formal equivalence between nontrivial pool-supported joint threats, superadditive enforcement cost, and algebraic noncommutativity; (3) a fully explicit 11-step qubit model computing every quantity from enforcement costs through Born probabilities; (4) named support-recruitment monotonicity principle (SRM) separating structural from physical selection of orthogonal projections; (5) explicit computable stability thresholds for Wedderburn block structure and field type under approximate disjoint-support additivity; (6) front-matter tables classifying every result as unconditional, conditional, or dependent on external theorems. 71 pages. Admissibility Physics derives the Standard Model gauge group, fermion content, quantum formalism, Lorentzian spacetime, the Einstein field equations, the cosmological constant, and the neutrino, strong-CP, and dark sectors from a single assumption — that enforcement is finite at every causally connected region — with zero free parameters. The core derivation runs Papers 0–11; the extension papers carry the individual sectors. A structural, interaction‑first account showing how the fermion–boson distinction arises from the minimal conditions any self‑maintaining pattern must satisfy. Taking interaction as the only foundational primitive, and the recursive maintenance of operational coherence as the criterion of persistent identity, this paper proposes that the distinction between what gets called fermions and what gets called bosons can be read directly from the structural conditions any self-maintaining pattern must satisfy. The proposal is one step beyond the companion paper on particle indistinguishability [1]: that paper derived indistinguishability from interaction-as-primitive; this paper applies a structural triad — inscription, admittance, and coherence — at the elementary-particle level and shows that the fermion/boson distinction follows from whether and how a pattern of interaction realizes these three criteria. The criteria exhibit a differentiation gradient across scales: minimally differentiated and mechanically fused at the elementary level, increasingly differentiated through richer relational landscapes at higher complexity. What humans encounter as life, consciousness, and intelligence are phase transitions in this differentiation gradient, not categorically distinct phenomena. Fermions instantiate the fused structure of the three criteria; bosons fail to instantiate it. The Pauli exclusion principle is repositioned as a manifestation of the fused realization, not as a separate postulate. The exchange phase, the spinor topology of half-integer spin, and the anyonic case are not derived here. They are stated as the next work in the program, with the structural specification of what a derivation would require.
Landauer's principle prices forgetting, and finite-time thermodynamics prices speed, a cost that patience removes. Neither prices order: a machine that computes in time must let some outputs go before later inputs arrive, and can then no longer use them to clean up. This letter shows that order has its own work price, which no patience removes, and gives it exactly. One entropy-plus-energy functional gives the optimal rate of deterministic work, over many uses at vanishing error, for a broad class of schedules of arrivals, releases and loans, and for devices that give back what they borrow, with its energy and entropy. At a fixed state, the price of releasing is the price of correlations whose partners have left. Together with results of the companion papers, the law settles three questions. Does answering promptly cost more? For memoryless channels, only if they are quantum. Can one decide whether a channel is free? Yes when outputs may be held, and no when they must be released. What does keeping time cost? A clock that must come back supplies phase but no net energy, so in batch, thermal operations with a returned clock do not reach the capacity of every channel, and a process can cost more than its time reverse. The price is testable: a two-qubit process that is free when held costs at least 0.87 kT ln 2 per episode at 1% error when its first output must leave early and the controller and battery budgets total at most 0.025 (energies in kT ln 2, entropies in bits); certifying the budgets is the remaining step. The letter summarizes four papers, which give the full proofs and carry the machine checks: The price of time order (doi:10.5281/zenodo.23310622); Only quantum channels save work by waiting (doi:10.5281/zenodo.23310624); The work cost of answering in real time (doi:10.5281/zenodo.23310628); The price of keeping time (doi:10.5281/zenodo.23310632).
