This publication introduces the Jordan Spectral Transformer (JST), a quantum-inspired neural architecture in which conventional softmax attention is replaced by density-matrix evolution followed by Born-rule measurement. The central Jordan step is ρ′=φ−1UρU†+φ−2ρ,\rho'=\varphi^{-1}U\rho U^\dagger+\varphi^{-2}\rho,ρ′=φ−1UρU†+φ−2ρ, where ρ\rhoρ is a density matrix, U=exp(−i dt H)U=\exp(-i\,dt\,H)U=exp(−idtH) is the unitary evolution generated by a Hermitian Hamiltonian HHH, and φ=(1+5)/2\varphi=(1+\sqrt{5})/2φ=(1+5)/2 is the golden ratio. The coefficients satisfy φ−1+φ−2=1,\varphi^{-1}+\varphi^{-2}=1,φ−1+φ−2=1, making the update a convex combination. The paper identifies this as the unique positive weighting pair (a,b)(a,b)(a,b) satisfying a+b=1a+b=1a+b=1 and b=a2b=a^2b=a2. The proposed JST pipeline consists of: Sovereign Piper Encoder conversion of an input signal into a density matrix Repeated Jordan evolution Born-rule probability measurement Signal reconstruction Append-only WORM receipt generation The full forward path is expressed as: x→ρ0→ρN→{pj}→x^→(x^,receipt).x \rightarrow \rho_0 \rightarrow \rho_N \rightarrow \{p_j\} \rightarrow \hat{x} \rightarrow (\hat{x},\text{receipt}).x→ρ0→ρN→{pj}→x^→(x^,receipt). The publication derives an adjoint-gradient expression for learning and presents a tight-frame encoding model. It distinguishes between a linear encoder, for which an exact Parseval-style round trip is claimed, and a normalized softmax variant used to produce probability-simplex outputs but which does not generally preserve exact reconstruction. A central algebraic result states that every fixed point of the Jordan operator commutes with the unitary evolution: T(ρ∗)=ρ∗⟹[U,ρ∗]=0.T(\rho^*)=\rho^* \quad\Longrightarrow\quad [U,\rho^*]=0.T(ρ∗)=ρ∗⟹[U,ρ∗]=0. This follows from the golden-ratio identity 1−φ−2=φ−11-\varphi^{-2}=\varphi^{-1}1−φ−2=φ−1. The supplied Lean 4 artifact verifies the scalar cancellation model; the paper explicitly notes that a complete matrix-level Mathlib formalization remains separate work. The paper also studies convergence. For a fixed unitary UUU, the displayed norm estimate establishes that the Jordan operator is non-expansive with Lipschitz constant 1, not automatically a strict Banach contraction. Strict contraction is instead discussed under averaging or signal-dependent unitary evolution. The included Lean code checks the decreasing scalar sequence (φ−1)N(\varphi^{-1})^N(φ−1)N using IEEE-754 floating-point arithmetic and does not by itself prove density-matrix operator contraction. The attention mechanism forms the foundation of many modern AI models such as the Transformer. In one subclass of problems where attention is used, inputs and outputs are bound to the probability simplex so that all outputs sum to one. In this setting, softmax attention admits an exact, component-by-component quantum realization. Attention scores are Hadamard-test statistics on block-encoded projections of amplitude-encoded inputs. The exponential softmax is the interior of a cosine-squared family generated by Born-rule measurement under an exact bijection, whose boundary expresses sparse attention with exact zeros at finite parameter values. The softmax temperature is a repetition count where post-selected measurement rounds realize discretized inverse temperature exactly. Value aggregation is a deterministic column-loading channel that dilates the column-stochastic value matrix. The gated residual is the preparation angle of a single ancilla, with the additive identity at a mixing angle of π/2. Every learnable parameter is a rotation-gate angle. The composed layer is exact in the infinite-shot limit with one measure-and-reload step per attention score; a fully-coherent variant is ε-approximate via quantum singular value transformation in the infinite depth limit. The algebraic core is machine-checked in Lean 4.
Softmax self-attention costs O(T^2) in the sequence length T because the exponential kernel has no finite-dimensional feature map, so linear-time variants approximate it. We observe that Born-rule attention, whose weights are quantum-measurement probabilities a_kj ∝ |<Q_k, K_j>|^2 over complex queries and keys, is an exact finite kernel with the rank-one density-matrix feature map ρ_x = x x†, since |<Q_k, K_j>|^2 = tr(ρ_Qk ρ_Kj). As the complex degree-two case of polynomial-kernel linear attention it admits an exact O(T d^2) causal recurrence and constant-state decoding (d^2 (d_v + 1) reals per head, with d_v the real value width, independent of T), and it keeps rotary positions exactly. For GPT-2's head geometry (64 real channels paired into d = 32 complex) the feature dimension is d^2 = 1024. Measured on an A100, compiled constant-state decoding runs from 6.4 MB per layer at 0.12 ms per token at any length, against a 3.2 GB FlashAttention-2 cache at 2.26 ms per token at 1M tokens; unfused prefill overtakes FlashAttention-2 between 64k and 128k tokens (11x at 1M), and a fused form (Triton feature lift plus a chunkwise linear-attention kernel) between 16k and 32k (4x at 128k), reaching training parity at 64k. The linear and quadratic forms are two implementations of one operator; whether that operator matches softmax is a separate modeling question, answered here only at small scale: the p = 1 operator bolted into a real-valued GPT trails softmax by 0.12 nats at context 1k and 0.77 at 16k (attention dilution; a decay kept exactly in the d^2 state restores the 0.12 gap at 16k, and p = 2 sharpening with decay recovers 74% of the 1k gap), whereas inside a fully complex residual stream it matches softmax at 1k and keeps a quarter of the real-stream gap at 4k; gated linear attention beats both there. At 128k context on PG-19 the variable that matters is forgetting: plain Born dilutes, Born with a fixed decay carried in its state is 0.32 nats ahead of softmax and within 0.04 of gated linear attention, which stays 1.8x faster. Streamed with their constant state over the PG-19 test partition in 5M-byte windows, two 4M-complex-parameter byte models of the source framework score 1.66 (linear Born with decay) and 1.70 (gated) bits per byte, where a 350M-parameter hierarchical Mamba–Transformer stack built for that window reports 2.45. Symmersion and the Born Rule develops a conditional structural reconstruction of quantum probability from conserved binary distinction, exchange completion, reciprocal conjugation, quadratic norm, orthogonal outcome channels, and stochastic event closure. The Born rule assigns the probability of an outcome represented by an orthogonal projector Π_j as: P_j = ⟨ψ|Π_j|ψ⟩ For a state expanded in an orthonormal basis, |ψ⟩ = Σ_j c_j |j⟩ the corresponding outcome weights are: P_j = |c_j|² Complex amplitude, conjugation, quadratic norm, orthogonal decomposition, normalization, and stochastic realization are individually standard. The question addressed here is why they may belong to one structural architecture, and why the reciprocal pair underlying complex conjugation should exist in the first place. The paper introduces symmersion as the minimal exchange-completion of a realized asymmetric law. If J is an involutive exchange satisfying J² = I, then the exchange action on a law A is: A -> JAJ and its symmersion is: Symm_J(A) = {A, JAJ} with the singleton case understood when JAJ = A. For a positive binary projective law with ratio coordinate r, the exchange-conjugate map satisfies: f_JAJ(r) = 1 / f_A(1/r) Whenever the original map has a positive fixed point r*, the exchange-conjugate map has the reciprocal fixed point: r*^-1 The distinguishability tension tau(r) = r / (1 + r)² is invariant under inversion: tau(1/r) = tau(r) Symmersion therefore produces reciprocal conjugacy base-generally. It does not by itself select the golden ratio. Applied to the conserved binary recurrence L_(n+1) = L_n + S_nS_(n+1) = L_n with matrix A_+ = [[1, 1], [1, 0]] the projective ratio satisfies: r_(n+1) = 1 + 1/r_n Its unique positive fixed point is the golden ratio: phi = (1 + sqrt(5)) / 2 The exchange-conjugate law is: A_- = J A_+ J = [[0, 1], [1, 1]] and its positive fixed point is: phi^-1 The completed law orbit therefore contains reciprocal equilibria: {phi, phi^-1} The golden ratio enters only through the upstream selection of the conserved binary recurrence. The later reciprocal and complex constructions do not independently privilege phi. Symmersion initially produces an orbit of laws, while the amplitude construction requires a simultaneous reciprocal pair within one state. The Equivariant Pairing Proposition supplies this step. Under the exchange embedding x -> (x, Jx) the paired evolution A_+ ⊕ A_- preserves the relation: x_n^- = Jx_n^+ Consequently, the projective coordinates remain exactly reciprocal at every step: r_n^- = 1 / r_n^+ This is not merely an equilibrium relation. The reciprocal pair is maintained throughout the paired evolution. One interpretive commitment remains explicit: the complete physical state is represented by the exchange orbit, realized as the equivariantly paired state, rather than by one arbitrarily selected representative. The reciprocal fixed-point pair is then extended continuously. If F satisfies F(0) = 1F(s + t) = F(s)F(t)F(1) = phi and F is continuous and positive, then: F(s) = phi^s with: F(-s) = phi^(-s) = 1/F(s) The continuous reciprocal branches are therefore: r_+(s) = A phi^sr_-(s) = A phi^(-s) Their product is invariant: r_+(s) r_-(s) = A² and their ratio carries signed asymmetry: r_+(s) / r_-(s) = phi^(2s) After phase calibration, the reciprocal pair can be mapped to a complex amplitude. Under this correspondence: branch product -> squared modulusbranch ratio -> phasebranch exchange -> complex conjugation The state is linear in its amplitude carrier but quadratic in its invariant completion: Psi* Psi = |Psi|² For two orthogonal amplitude magnitudes a and b, Euclidean composition gives: combined magnitude = sqrt(a² + b²) If a non-negative observable weight W satisfies: W(sqrt(a² + b²)) = W(a) + W(b) and W(1) = 1 then the unique admissible weight is: W(a) = a² The exponent two is therefore fixed by Euclidean orthogonal composition together with non-negative additivity and normalization. Repeatable resolution requires an idempotent channel map: P² = P If the resolved component and its complement also satisfy the Pythagorean identity ||ψ||² = ||Pψ||² + ||(I - P)ψ||² for every ψ, then P must be an orthogonal projector: P = P† For a complete family of mutually orthogonal projectors satisfying Π_j Π_k = delta_jk Π_j and Σ_j Π_j = I the norm decomposes as: ||ψ||² = Σ_j ||Π_j ψ||² For a normalized state: Σ_j ||Π_j ψ||² = 1 and the quadratic channel weights are: P_j = ||Π_j ψ||² = ⟨ψ|Π_j|ψ⟩ At this stage the Born weights are established as normalized channel weights. To obtain terminal event frequencies, the paper enters a finite-dimensional, norm-preserving Wiener closure class with a single closure rate Gamma_cl > 0. Within this class, Ito norm preservation fixes the drift-diffusion relation, each spectral weight is a bounded martingale, and absorption into one terminal event sector yields: Prob(event j) = |⟨j|ψ_0⟩|² The numerical value of Gamma_cl affects the temporal profile of closure but not the terminal Born frequencies. The stochastic mechanism is mathematically continuous with the established collapse-model and quantum-state-diffusion literature. The proposed contribution is not the discovery of the martingale route itself. It is the structural argument motivating the reciprocal geometry, the transition into a norm-preserving closure class, and the exclusion of an independent rate arising solely from branch orientation. The full conditional chain is: unity-> co-constituted distinction-> conserved asymmetric recurrence-> exchange-conjugate law orbit-> equivariantly paired state-> exact reciprocal coordinates-> continuous reciprocal flow-> complex conjugate amplitude-> quadratic norm-> orthogonal channel weights-> Born event frequency The claim boundary is explicit. The matrix identities are elementary and their novelty is claimed architecturally rather than computationally. Symmersion produces reciprocal structure but does not independently select phi. The physical representation of the complete state by the exchange orbit remains an interpretive premise. The Euclidean composition law, the selected stochastic closure class, and the single source-level closure rate are stated assumptions or inherited structural premises. The paper does not claim an unconditional derivation of all quantum mechanics, a new physical sector, or an experimental confirmation of symmersion. The companion validation ledger, validate_symmersion.py, implements 63 checks keyed to the paper’s numbered equations and results. SymPy verifies the implemented algebraic identities exactly, including exchange conjugacy, equivariant pairing, reciprocal flow, amplitude reconstruction, quadratic composition, orthogonality checks, and symbolic Ito drift-diffusion relations. NumPy tests the numerical consistency of selected dynamical and stochastic claims through direct iteration, random-law checks, and Monte Carlo simulation. The stochastic simulations reproduce two-state and three-state Born frequencies within the stated Monte Carlo tolerances, support the martingale behaviour of spectral weights, and are statistically consistent with closure-rate independence of terminal frequencies. The script does not mechanically prove the functional uniqueness arguments, interpretive premises, imported literature results, or physical validity. Those elements are proved in the paper, supported through cited literature, or stated explicitly as assumptions. The result is a completed finite-dimensional structural reconstruction under declared premises, supplying the previously missing exchange-completion origin of the simultaneous reciprocal pair on which the later Born architecture depends. Quantum-Inspired Spectral Attention: A Density Matrix Formulation for Transformer Diagnostics and the Heutschi Density Matrix Attention (H-DMAtt) Quanteninspirierte Zustandsräume und spektrale Diagnostik als rigorose Erweiterung der Transformer-Architektur Dr. Theodor Heutschi Date: August 2026 Abstract Self-attention in Transformer models is traditionally understood as a normalised scalar product. This paper presents a mathematically rigorous, quantum-inspired reformulation as a density matrix in the token Hilbert space. In contrast to earlier approaches, it is shown that a naïve symmetrisation of the attention matrix generally does not yield a valid density matrix. As a solution, we introduce a construction based on state amplitudes that is guaranteed to be Hermitian, positive semi-definite and trace-normalised. Building on this, we define the Heutschi Density Matrix Attention (H-DMAtt) - an architectural module that utilises complex-valued state vectors. At runtime, the module computes the von Neumann entropy S(ρ) and the effective dimension D_𝑒𝑓𝑓. We present a controlled benchmark protocol with proof-of-concept results. The work explicitly emphasises the analogical nature of the quantum concepts.
See also: Covariant Coherent-Generator Geometry over Quantum Wasserstein State Space This paper arises from the broader OT-GKSL architecture, in which detailed-balance GKSL dynamics are organized through a sequence of transport layers: a current representation, the induced state-space Onsager/quantum-Wasserstein geometry, and subsequent reduction to collective variables. The present work isolates and develops the native-to-collective coarse-graining layer of that architecture as a mathematically self-contained problem. OT-GKSL Pedagogical Guide, Foundations Audit, Uniqueness & Substitutability Analysis, Literature Comparison, and Reading Guidance : A Pedagogical Guide to Understanding the OT–GKSL Architecture. Abstract / Summary: This work studies finite-dimensional coarse-graining of detailed-balance quantum Markov dynamics equipped with a specified Carlen–Maas noncommutative Wasserstein/Onsager geometry. The starting point is a smooth manifold of faithful density matrices 𝓜₊ and a positive Onsager co-metric: K_ρ : T*₊𝓜₊ → T_ρ𝓜₊ with inverse transport metric: g_ρ(u, v) = ⟨K_ρ⁻¹ u, v⟩ For the declared detailed-balance sector, the dissipative drift is assumed to satisfy the Carlen–Maas gradient-flow identity: b_db(ρ) = −K_ρ DF(ρ) where F(ρ) = D(ρ || π) is the Umegaki relative entropy with respect to a faithful stationary state π. A specified current representation is written as: K_ρ = Γ_ρ M_ρ Γ_ρ* where Γ_ρ is the continuity/divergence map and M_ρ is a positive current mobility. For a smooth collective map q : 𝓜₊ → Q, write P_ρ = dq_ρ. At a fixed microscopic representative ρ, the pointwise quotient Onsager co-metric is: K_ρᵠ = P_ρ K_ρ P_ρ* with inverse G_ρᵠ = (K_ρᵠ)⁻¹, and minimum-norm horizontal lift: H_ρ = K_ρ P_ρ* G_ρᵠ The current-to-state kinetic minimization and the minimum-norm Riemannian quotient construction are standard ingredients and are not claimed as new. Their typed composition gives the local collective quadratic contraction: inf_{j : P_ρ[a(ρ) + Γ_ρ j] = dq/dt} 𝓛_cur(ρ, j) = (1/4) ⟨G_ρᵠ(dq/dt − ℓ_ρ), dq/dt − ℓ_ρ⟩ where ℓ_ρ = P_ρ b(ρ). Key Findings & Core Structure: The main purpose of the paper is to separate three issues that remain after this pointwise contraction: 1. Drift Basicity and Mobility Basicity are Distinct: Exact autonomous deterministic closure requires: P_ρ b(ρ) = Lᵇ(q(ρ)) for a vector field Lᵇ defined intrinsically on the collective space. By contrast, an intrinsic section-independent quadratic transport geometry requires: P_ρ K_ρ P_ρ* = Kᵇ(q(ρ)) These are logically independent projectability conditions. In particular, an exact deterministic reduced equation may exist even when the reduced transport cost still depends on the microscopic representative. A reversible three-state Markov-chain example makes this independence explicit. For q = p₁ + p₂, the projected deterministic dynamics closes exactly as: dq/dt = 1 − 2q whereas the logarithmic-mean quotient mobility is: K_pᵇ = (1/4) Λ(4p₁, 2p₃) + (1/4) Λ(4p₂, 2p₃) and therefore depends on the hidden split between p₁ and p₂. Here, Λ(a, b) = (a − b) / (log a − log b) for a ≠ b, with Λ(a, a) = a. 2. Exact Quotient-versus-Section Defect Identity: Let s : U ⊂ Q → 𝓜₊ be a smooth representative section satisfying q ∘ s = Id. Define the section-dependent reduced drift Ls(q) = dq{s(q)} b(s(q)), the horizontal lift H_s, the vertical section tilt V_s = ds − H_s, and the native tangency residual R_s(q) = b(s(q)) − ds_q L_s(q). Both V_s and R_s are vertical. The central exact decomposition is: (1/4) || dsq (dq/dt) − b(s(q)) ||²{g_{s(q)}} = (1/4) ⟨G_sᵠ (dq/dt − L_s), dq/dt − L_s⟩ + (1/4) || V_s (dq/dt − Ls) − Rs ||²{g{s(q)}} The first term is the pointwise quotient cost at the chosen representative. The second term is a nonnegative vertical square and is exactly the additional cost generated by imposing the reconstruction section instead of using the minimum-norm quotient lift. The corresponding metric identity is: s* g = G_sᵠ + V_s* g V_s ≥ G_sᵠ Thus pullback along a parametrized reconstruction and quotient minimization over hidden tangent directions are distinct operations. Horizontal sections satisfy V_s = 0, but such sections need not exist locally: the transport-horizontal distribution may fail the Frobenius integrability condition because of nonzero Ehresmann curvature. 3. Approximate Basicity: Exact fiber basicity is restrictive. The paper therefore introduces representative-dependent drift and mobility defects: ε_b(ρ) = || ℓ_ρ − L̄(q) ||_h ε_K(ρ) = || Kρᵠ − K̄(q) ||{op, h} relative to a reference reduced pair (L̄, K̄) and an auxiliary Riemannian norm h. Assuming uniform ellipticity with constant m > 0, and writing R = || dq/dt − L̄(q) ||_h, the local representative-dependent quadratic cost C_ρ obeys: | C_ρ(q, dq/dt) − C̄(q, dq/dt) | ≤ (1/4) [ (ε_K(ρ) / m²) (R + ε_b(ρ))² + (ε_b(ρ) / m) (2R + ε_b(ρ)) ] Hence the exact quotient theory is recovered as the zero-defect limit, while weak variation of projected drift and mobility along fibers yields an explicit quantitative coarse-graining estimate. Fiber oscillations can additionally be controlled by vertical regularity and the metric diameter of the fiber. Quantum Consistency Check: A two-level Davies generator is linearized around a faithful equilibrium state. In Hilbert–Schmidt tangent coordinates the entropy Hessian and Onsager operator take the diagonal form: Cπ = diag(c⊥, c_⊥, c_z) Kπ = diag(k⊥, k_⊥, k_z) with k_⊥ = Γ₂ / c_⊥ and k_z = 2 Γ₁ p_g p_e. For a tilted local section s_η(z) = (η z, 0, z), the section-defect theorem gives: (1/4) || dsη (dz/dt) − Adb s_η ||²{g_π} = (dz/dt + Γ₁ z)² / (4 k_z) + η² (dz/dt + Γ₂ z)² / (4 k⊥) This example is intentionally local and linearized. It is a noncommutative tangent-space consistency check, not a nonlinear quantum coarse-graining theorem. Novelty and Scope: The paper does not claim novelty for: The Carlen–Maas current-to-state kinetic-energy minimum; Minimum-norm horizontal lifts or Riemannian quotient metrics; The formula K_ρᵠ = dq_ρ K_ρ dq_ρ* in isolation; Reduced Onsager operators as a general concept. The contribution is the assembled reduction framework consisting of: A typed current-to-state-to-collective contraction; The explicit separation between drift projectability and mobility projectability; The exact arbitrary-section vertical-defect identity involving both section tilt and native tangency residual; An explicit perturbative stability theorem for approximate basicity; Geometric control of fiber defects through vertical regularity and fiber diameter. The underlying quotient and section arguments are finite-dimensional Onsager/Riemannian statements once a positive co-metric K_ρ is supplied. Their quantum content in this work comes from their specialization to a declared Carlen–Maas noncommutative transport structure and detailed-balance quantum Markov dynamics. Explicit Limitations: The quadratic current functional introduced in the paper is not claimed to be a microscopic quantum path-space large-deviation rate function. The paper does not prove that an arbitrary physical coarse-graining produces a reduced quantum Markov semigroup whose intrinsic Carlen–Maas Onsager operator is exactly dq_ρ K_ρ dq_ρ*. Establishing such a functorial reduction theorem, for example for conditional expectations onto quantum subalgebras, is identified as a major open problem. The spectral-density operator $\stackrel{\ifmmode \hat{}\else \^{}\fi{}}{\ensuremath{\rho}}(\ensuremath{\omega})=\ensuremath{\delta}(\ensuremath{\omega}\ensuremath{-}\stackrel{\ifmmode \hat{}\else \^{}\fi{}}{H})$ plays a central role in linear response theory as its expectation value, the dynamical response function, can be used to compute scattering cross sections. In this work, we describe a near optimal quantum algorithm providing an approximation to the spectral density with energy resolution $\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Delta}}$ and error $\ensuremath{\epsilon}$ using $O\left(\sqrt{{log}_{2}\left(1/\ensuremath{\epsilon}\right)\left[{log}_{2}\left(1/\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Delta}}\right)+{log}_{2}\left(1/\ensuremath{\epsilon}\right)\right]}/\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Delta}}\right)$ operations. This is achieved without using expensive approximations to the time-evolution operator, but instead exploiting qubitization to implement an approximate Gaussian integral transform of the spectral density. We also describe appropriate error metrics to assess the quality of the spectral function approximations more generally.
