Abstract

We explore the generation of photon blockade effect in a Laguerre–Gaussian optorotational system where a Gaussian beam exchanges orbital angular momentum with a rotating spiral phase mirror. In addition to the typical optorotational coupling, we consider the existence of cross-Kerr nonlinearity between the cavity mode and the rotating mirror. We investigate the statistical characteristics of photons by numerically and analytically calculating the second-order correlation function. In particular, we find that the antibunching effect of photons is dominated by the cooperative operation between the optorotational coupling and the cross-Kerr coupling instead of any individual part. The optimal single photon blockade can be achieved in a moderate coupling regime and enhanced due to the presence of cross-Kerr nonlinearity. The dependence of photon blockade effect on the different system parameters is discussed in detail. Our work provides an alternative way to manipulate the photon quantum behaviors in Laguerre–Gaussian optorotational systems, which may find potential applications in quantum information processing and optical communication utilizing the optical orbital angular momentum.

Unconventional photon blockade in two coupled Kerr nonlinear cavities at resonance

Li-Yuan Xue, Yang Shao, Yan-Zhe Song +3 more

This study systematically investigates unconventional photon blockade in two coupled Kerr nonlinear cavities at resonance. By solving the master equation in the steady-state limit and calculating the equal-time second-order correlation function, the photon antibunching effect within the nonlinear regime is revealed. Through analytical derivations, four sets of optimal antibunching conditions are obtained and validated through numerical simulations, unveiling new characteristics of photon blockade. Furthermore, the influence of system parameters on photon blockade is discussed, providing valuable theoretical support for optimizing the design and implementation of single-photon sources.

Single-photon blockade in a hybrid cavity-optomechanical system via third-order nonlinearity

Bijita Sarma, Amarendra K. Sarma

Abstract Photon statistics in a weakly driven optomechanical cavity, with Kerr-type nonlinearity, are analyzed both analytically and numerically. The single-photon blockade effect is demonstrated via calculations of the zero-time-delay second-order correlation function g (2) (0). The analytical results obtained by solving the Schrödinger equation are in complete conformity with the results obtained through numerical solution of the quantum master equation. A systematic study on the parameter regime for observing photon blockade in the weak coupling regime is reported. The parameter regime where the photon blockade is not realizable due to the combined effect of nonlinearities owing to the optomechanical coupling and the Kerr-effect is demonstrated. The experimental feasibility with state-of-the-art device parameters is discussed and it is observed that photon blockade could be generated at the telecommunication wavelength. An elaborate analysis of the thermal effects on photon antibunching is presented. The system is found to be robust against pure dephasing-induced decoherences and thermal phonon number fluctuations.

Improving the Stationary Entanglement of a Laguerre–Gaussian Cavity Mode with a Rotating Mirror via Nonlinear Cross-Kerr Interactions and Parametric Interactions

Guilin Lai, Sumei Huang, Li Deng +1 more

Quantum entanglement is essential in performing many quantum information tasks. Here, we theoretically investigate the stationary entanglement between a Laguerre-Gaussian (LG) cavity field and a rotating end mirror in an LG-cavity optorotational system with a nonlinear cross-Kerr (CK) interaction and a degenerate optical parametric amplifier (OPA). We calculate the logarithmic negativity of the system to quantify the stationary entanglement. We examine the influence of various system parameters such as the cavity detuning, the strength of the nonlinear CK interaction, the parametric gain and phase of the OPA, the power of the input Gaussian laser, the topological charge of the LG-cavity field, the mass of the rotating end mirror, and the ambient temperature on the stationary entanglement. Under the combined effect of the nonlinear CK interaction and the OPA, we find that the stationary entanglement can be substantially enhanced at lower Gaussian laser powers, smaller topological charges of the LG-cavity field, and larger masses of the rotating end mirror. We show that the combination of the nonlinear CK interaction and the OPA can make the stationary entanglement more robust against the ambient temperature.

Photon blockade in optomechanical systems with a position-modulated Kerr-type nonlinear coupling

X. Y. Zhang, Y. H. Zhou, Ya-Ting Guo +1 more

Abstract We explore the photon blockade in optomechanical systems with a position-modulated Kerr-type nonlinear coupling, i.e. H i n t ∼ a ^ † 2 a ^ 2 ( b ^ 1 † + b ^ 1 ) . We find that the Kerr-type nonlinear coupling can enhance the photon blockade greatly. We evaluate the equal-time second-order correlation function of the cavity photons and find that the optimal photon blockade does not happen at the single photon resonance. By working within the few-photon subspace, we get an approximate analytical expression for the correlation function and the condition for the optimal photon blockade. We also find that the photon blockade effect is not always enhanced as the Kerr-type nonlinear coupling strength g 2 increases. At some values of g 2 , the photon blockade is even weakened. For the system we considered here, the second-order correlation function can be smaller than 1 even in the unresolved sideband regime. By numerically simulating the master equation of the system, we also find that the thermal noise of the mechanical environment can enhance the photon blockade. We give out an explanation for this counter-intuitive phenomenon qualitatively.

Enhancement of few-photon optomechanical effects with cross-Kerr nonlinearity

Fen Zou, Li‐Bao Fan, Jin‐Feng Huang +1 more

Few-photon optomechanical effects not only are important physical evidence for understanding the radiation-pressure interaction between photons and mechanical oscillation, but also have wide potential applications in modern quantum technology. Here we study the few-photon optomechanical effects including photon blockade and generation of the Schr\"odinger cat states under the assistance of a cross-Kerr interaction, which is an inherent interaction accompanied by the optomechanical coupling in a generalized optomechanical system. By exactly diagonalizing the generalized optomechanical Hamiltonian and calculating its unitary evolution operator, we find the physical mechanism of the enhancement of photon blockade and single-photon mechanical displacement. The quantum properties in this generalized optomechanical system are studied by investigating the second-order correlation function of the cavity field and calculating the Wigner function and the probability distribution of the rotated quadrature operator for the mechanical mode. We also study the influence of the dissipations on the few-photon optomechanical effects.

Single-photon blockade in optomechanical photonic crystal cavity with third-order nonlinearity

Bijita Sarma, Amarendra K. Sarma

Photon statistics in a weakly driven optomechanical photonic crystal cavity, with Kerr-type nonlinearity, is analyzed both analytically and numerically. Single-photon blockade effect is demonstrated via calculations of the zero-time-delay second-order correlation function $g^{(2)}(0)$. The analytical results obtained by solving the Schrödinger equation are in complete conformity with the results obtained through numerical solution of the quantum master equation. The experimental feasibility with state-of-the-art device parameters is discussed. It is observed that photon blockade could be generated at the telecommunication wavelength, even at lower values of the nonlinear susceptibility parameters and in the weak single-photon optomechanical coupling regime. The system is found to be robust against pure dephasing-induced decoherences.
