Abstract

From Distinction to Quantum Structure Compiling Physical Geometry from the Change Axiom Chain Driven by Dean Kulik July 2026 Abstract We present a foundational axiom chain that compiles physical geometry from a single primitive: distinction exists. Beginning with C0 (distinction) and C1 (every distinction admits lawful continuation), we derive — without importing spatial geometry, coordinates, time, or quantum mechanics as primitives — the necessity of a linear state space, a complex inner product, Hilbert completion, self-adjoint observables, and the structure of a probability measure on observable subspaces. We further derive the unique free-field Lagrangian consistent with the axiom constraints, the gauge principle as a structural consequence of independent classification, and the quantization bridge connecting the classical field to operator algebras. The central result is the Division Algebra Theorem (candidate): among the three finite-dimensional division algebras admitted by Frobenius’s theorem, only the complex numbers simultaneously satisfy the continuation independence requirement (C1a) and the dual-encoding requirement of C5. The paper maintains a strict five-category epistemic discipline — primitive, definition, compiled theorem, candidate theorem, empirical calibration — throughout, ensuring every claim carries its exact epistemic status. 1. Introduction: The Foundational Inversion Standard physical theory begins with space. Objects occupy locations in a pre-existing spatial manifold; motion is defined relative to that manifold; forces act within it. Newton’s mechanics, Einstein’s general relativity, and the Standard Model of particle physics all share this architecture at the foundational level: a stage is assumed, and the physics plays out on it. The program presented here inverts this order. We propose that space, time, geometry, and quantum structure are not primitives but derived objects — outputs of a more fundamental algebraic structure built from the minimal concept of distinguishable change. The chain begins: rather than: This is not merely a philosophical reordering. It is a concrete research program with specific mathematical obligations at each step: each layer must be derived from the previous layers without importing external structure, and every claim must be categorized by its epistemic status. The framework is falsifiable — if any compiled theorem fails its formal derivation, either the derivation or one of the primitives must be revised. 1.1 Motivation: SHA-256 as Physical Evidence The SHA-256 hash function provides an unexpected but precise illustration of the C1-first claim. SHA-256 is field-balanced in both axes: • Horizontal (input → output): Bit content redistributes across the compression function. The total information content of the input is preserved in the digest — different shape, identical content. The mapping is a redistribution, not a creation. • Vertical (round → round): The carry palindrome property holds: KL divergence between forward and backward carry distributions equals zero. The AHRC (Algebraic Hash Round Consistency) result shows to machine epsilon across all 64 rounds. The geometry is self-balancing at every step. Neither property was engineered into SHA-256. The designers specified diffusion targets; the field obeyed the redistribution constraint underneath and the two-axis conservation emerged. This is the claim of the axiom chain in concrete form: the transition algebra runs without an observer, and we arrive afterward to read what it did. SHA-256 does not choose to balance. It cannot not balance. Law 3 — redistribution conserves total — runs underneath every hash computation invisibly, and we measure it as a mathematical law about SHA-256. The chain argues this is the universal situation: what we call physical law is the transition algebra’s self-accounting, read from inside by instruments that are themselves running the same algebra. 1.2 Program Overview This paper establishes: 1. The primitive constraint set (Section 2) 2. Definitions required for precision (Section 3) 3. Compiled theorems through the free-field Lagrangian (Sections 4–6) 4. The internal symmetry and gauge principle (Section 7) 5. The quantization bridge — six elements of the Quantum Kinematics Theorem (Section 8) 6. The Division Algebra Theorem — the central new argument of this paper (Section 9) 7. Candidate theorems and open problems with proof strategies (Section 10) 8. Full dependency graph (Section 11) 1.3 Epistemic Categories Throughout this paper, every claim is labeled with one of five categories: Label Meaning [P] Primitive — assumed, irreducible [D] Definition — terminology, requires no proof [C] Compiled theorem — formally derived from prior P/D/C entries [T] Candidate theorem — strong evidence, formal proof incomplete [E] Empirical calibration — requires measurement, not deduction This discipline has a structural consequence: if a [C] theorem fails, either the derivation contains an error or one of the primitives must be revised. If a [T] theorem fails, the program survives intact — that conjecture was incorrect, and the framework needs refinement at that node only. If an [E] calibration disagrees with experiment, the structural theory may remain correct while the mapping to physical units requires revision. 2. The Primitive Constraints We assume the following as irreducible primitives. They are not derived from anything else in the framework. Their justification is that each is genuinely minimal — no proper subset generates the others. [P] C0 — Distinction Exists At least two states exist that are not identical. This is the logical precondition for any other constraint. C1 cannot operate on a single undifferentiated object. C0 is the one irreducible prior: something must be distinguishable from something else. Without C0, the entire chain has no content. [P] C1 — Every Distinction Admits Lawful Continuation Every state in the system must admit at least one transition to a successor state. This is the change axiom. No state is a dead end. No distinction terminates. The system cannot freeze, because freezing would require a state with no admissible successor — and that state would constitute a privileged terminal configuration, which is ruled out by C1 itself. Every local rule must be well-defined on every admissible state: this immediately excludes absorbing dead states from the dynamics. [P] C1a — Independence Preservation Independent distinctions remain independently continuable. This is stronger than C1. It says not only that every state continues, but that the continuation of one distinction cannot be blocked or modified by the simultaneous continuation of an independent distinction. Two systems that are independent at time must continue to be independently continuable. This axiom is what forces linearity (see Section 4) and what later eliminates quaternionic algebras (see Section 9). [P] C2 — Continuation Preserves Reachable History Every continuation preserves the set of states reachable from any prior state in the history. Nothing in the past is erased. The execution history — the accumulated record of all prior transitions — remains reachable. This is not a claim about memory in any computational sense; it is a structural requirement that the transition graph not delete nodes from the accessible state space. C2 forces completeness of the state space (Section 4) and the one-directionality of the ordering relation (Section 5). [P] L3 — Redistribution Conserves Total Every lawful continuation redistributes the total content of the field without changing that total. The field never gains content; it never loses content. Every transformation is a redistribution — a shift in the configuration of a fixed total. This is the deepest form of the conservation principle. It does not assume conservation of energy, momentum, or charge; it says something more primitive: the field’s total is an invariant of continuation. Those physical conservation laws are derived from L3 operating in specific geometric contexts. [P] L4 — Redistribution Is Local Redistribution propagates through local adjacency. Content cannot shift from location A to location B without occupying every intermediate location. This is the locality axiom. It follows from C2 applied to intermediate locations: if content jumps from A to B without passing through the intervening field, every intermediate location is denied its C2-guaranteed reachable history. The inheritance constraint — every new location must inherit all primitives — makes this inadmissible. L4 is therefore arguably compilable from C2, but we list it as a primitive for clarity because it plays an independent role throughout the chain. [P] C5 — The Observable Event Primitive An observable event is the minimum continuation that simultaneously propagates (extends through at least one L4 step) and leaves a distinguishable residue. C5 defines the minimum unit of observation. Three constraints are built into it: • Propagation (C1 minimum): the event must extend. A continuation that fails to propagate is not a continuation. • Residue (C0 requirement): the event must leave a mark distinguishable from prior state. Without residue, C0 is not satisfied at the event level — nothing registered. • Simultaneity: propagation and residue are not sequential. They coexist in the same elementary event. This simultaneity requirement is the key structural feature of C5. It will force complex amplitudes (Section 9) and the uncertainty principle (Section 8). 3. Definitions Definitions introduce terminology. They do not require proof; they establish the language

A Unified Algebraic-Informational Ontology of the Universe Substrate Independence, Distance Geometry, and the Crossed Product Resolution of von Neumann Algebras

Dean Kulik

A Unified Algebraic-Informational Ontology of the Universe Substrate Independence, Distance Geometry, and the Crossed Product Resolution of von Neumann Algebras Driven by Dean A. Kulik September 2026 Introduction to the Relational Universe The enduring pursuit of theoretical physics has been to reconcile the continuous, geometric scaffolding of general relativity with the discrete, probabilistic, and algebraic nature of quantum mechanics. Historically, this reconciliation has faltered because both paradigms impose an a priori ontological framework upon the universe: classical mechanics assumes a pre-existing continuous spacetime manifold, while quantum mechanics presupposes a globally defined Hilbert space. However, a profound synthesis of modern algebraic quantum field theory (AQFT), constructor theory, Euclidean distance geometry, and discrete operator logic suggests that neither space nor continuous state vectors are fundamental. Instead, the universe functions as a closed transformation domain of purely relational, substrate-independent distinctions. In this unified paradigm, information is the foundational bedrock of physical reality. Constructor theory asserts that the laws of physics are not strictly predictive equations of motion, but rather exact specifications of which transformations of physical systems are possible and which are impossible. Because these transformations govern the flow of information independently of the underlying micro-physical medium, reality itself is substrate-independent. A quantum bit, or any physical correlate of information, can be abstractly modeled as a set of allowable operations—such as continuous reversibility and the prohibition of simultaneous encoding—without reference to whether the system is implemented via trapped ions, superconducting circuits, or the vacuum of spacetime. When these allowable physical transformations are formally mapped, they generate a stringent "Operator Grammar". This grammar constitutes the absolute minimum set of constraints dictating how elemental distinctions are addressed, separated, preserved, and subsequently re-read. Crucially, the physical manifestation of spatial geometry does not exist as a prior stage for these operations. Rather, geometry emerges algebraically as a constraint-satisfaction rendering of purely relational distances between distinctions, governed mathematically by the Cayley-Menger determinant. As the system scales to the continuum limit, the localized regions of these transformations map precisely to the local observable algebras of quantum field theory. These algebras are intrinsically pathological von Neumann factors of Type III, which lack well-defined traces or density matrices due to infinite boundary entanglement across localized causal diamonds. The resolution to this algebraic pathology—and the exact mathematical mechanism by which measurable reality, finite thermodynamic entropy, and macroscopic observers emerge—is found in the crossed product of the Type III algebra with its modular automorphism group. This operation yields a well-behaved Type II algebra, effectively restoring the observer to the physical system. This report provides an exhaustive, multi-disciplinary synthesis of this unified paradigm, demonstrating that the universe functions as an infinitely extendable field of non-destructive transformations where spacetime geometry is merely the "read head" interface, and the macroscopic observer is mathematically isomorphic to the modular flow that regularizes quantum entanglement. Substrate Independence and the Operator Grammar To construct a universe from the bottom up, without smuggling in assumptions of space, time, or mass, one must begin with the absolute primitives of logic and transformation. This requires identifying the fundamental constraints—the laws—that govern any distinguishable state. In a purely informational ontology, the universe is governed by an Operator Grammar consisting of fourteen irreducible physical constraints (identified sequentially as C0 through C13), which collectively establish the mechanisms by which a state space can evolve. The absolute floor of this reality is the principle of distinction, defined as C0. For anything to exist, there must be at least two states that are not identical (). Without this primary distinction, there is no substrate to transform, select, bound, relate, or render. Building upon this, C1 dictates the law of continuation: every admissible state must admit a successor distinct from itself, explicitly excluding absolute terminals and self-loops. Mathematically, for every distinction , there must exist a transformation such that . Consequently, the object itself is not the fundamental entity; rather, the object is merely a temporarily stable rendering of a continuous transformation process. These distinctions are governed by the law of independent continuation (C1a). If two distinctions are genuinely independent, the transformation of one cannot secretly consume the other's capacity to continue. In the language of quantum mechanics and operator algebras, this independence requires that the operators commute, such that . If this commutator fails to vanish, the operations are coupled, meaning they share a reference point and cannot be treated as separate informational channels. The Conservation of Reachability and Non-Subtraction Classical physics generally allows for the destruction or annihilation of states (e.g., inelastic collisions, dissipative friction), but in a substrate-independent informational universe, true destruction violates the continuity of the state space. The grammar enforces this through C2, the preservation of reachable history. A lawful transformation cannot annihilate a distinction; it can only alter, detach, bound, merge, or re-address the accessibility of that distinction. The history of the state is conserved within the topological arrangement of the system. This leads directly to C3, the law stipulating that no transformation is a subtraction. In this framework, all change is equal in its obligation to preserve information. A cut or division of a continuous object does not reduce the total payload (); rather, every cut is the birth of two distinct entities, producing a relation . If material is lifted from an active field, it transitions to a "bench" state (), where represents the detached continuation state. The lifted distinction loses its active location but fundamentally retains its existence and relational history. Consequently, C3 is not an arbitrary law but is mathematically derivable as C2 applied specifically to the lift operator. Orthogonal Waves: Selection and Boundary Any physical operation necessitates two orthogonal waves of action: one that dictates what part of the field is acted upon (Decay/Selection), and one that dictates what reality becomes after the action occurs (Boundary). These two waves cannot be collapsed into a single mechanism without freezing the state space entirely. The first wave, Selection (C4), establishes an address into the admissible transformation space, denoted as . The selector does not create the distinction; the distinction was already an admissible potential within the substrate . Selection merely instantiates which specific continuation path is taken. The second wave, Boundary (C5), changes the topology of continuity. A boundary creates a new condition of continuation without requiring new physical payload. For example, if a symbol is lifted from a sequence, the resulting gap can either close (collapsing the prior address and establishing new adjacency) or persist (creating two bounded regions). According to the Wall Theorem, a distinction is physically "alive" if and only if at least one of these two channels (value/selection or relation/boundary) remains unfrozen. Collapsing Decay into Boundary freezes both channels in a single event, resulting in a strictly forbidden configuration. When boundaries are introduced, they possess the unique capacity to create new origins (C6). A continuous sequence evaluated as a whole produces a single macroscopic magnitude. However, if that sequence is sectioned into multiple bounded segments, those segments become independent origins for new computations, despite remaining entangled by their shared substrate history. This sectioning is the primary mechanism for non-linear computational growth in the universe. The Rendering Interface and Constraint Satisfaction The final layer of the Operator Grammar separates the underlying relational data from its macroscopic observation. According to C7, results are rendered rather than merely read. The final observed state is a complex function of the substrate , the geometry of the interaction , the selection criteria , and the boundary topology . It is not the simple linear accumulation of hidden objects. Crucially, Geometry is defined as the "Read Head" (C8). The substrate itself does not inherently possess a Euclidean or curved shape. Geometry controls how the transformation encounters the distinctions. A linear read head defines a one-dimensional adjacency, while a circular, grid, or cyclical step-pattern defines entirely different neighborhood relations. Therefore, physical bases (such as positional notation or coordinate systems) are simultaneously available representations (C9). The selected base does not create the underlying substance; it merely acts as a coordinate system for rendering the preexisting relations. This culminates in the Value-to-Shape constraint satisfaction law (C10). The numbers or data points in the universe do not need to physically resemble a shape. If a relation among rendered values satisfies the constraints of a specific geometry—for example, if they satisfy —then those values instantiate a right-triangle relation. Shape exists purely as a potential admissible structure before it is instantiated, and measurement tests this constrain

The Registration Graph: Deriving Physical Structure from a Single Axiom

Samuel Modde

This paper formalizes a framework in which a single axiom — that existence is constituted by registration — generates the core structures of physical theory as necessary consequences, with zero free parameters and no appeal to empirical input. Beginning from the axiom (stated in four interdependent conditions: existence requires registration, no external substrate exists, registration capacity is continuous, registration events are discrete), the derivation chain proceeds through twelve theorems: Self-Differentiation: registration requires an irreducible asymmetry (the registration quantum) Irreversible Generativity: non-termination, forced novelty, append-only record, local propagation 2B. Dimensional Asymmetry: one irreversible axis (partial order) with reversible fibers — Lorentzian signature Constraint Geometry: self-deepening landscape with a least-resistance principle Compression and Conservation: lossy compression necessary at every event; energy as registration flow; local conservation Entropy and the Second Law: multiplicity strictly increases for closed subgraphs Undiscriminated Paths: superposition and entanglement as structural absence of distinction The Action Quantum: ℏ and c as dimensional encodings of a single quantum Complementarity: the uncertainty principle as a limit on coexistent distinctions Entropy-Energy Bridge: S = k ln Ω with k_B as unit conversion Phase, Amplitude, Born Rule: U(1) phase from orientation, |A|² from self-relational structure Dimensional Selection: d = 3 is the unique dimensionality supporting topologically stable knotted constraint loops Each theorem depends only on the axiom and its predecessors in a strict dependency graph. The formalization uses graph-theoretic primitives (vertices, directed edges, partial orders, path spaces) to make every logical step explicit and independently verifiable. Three further theorems — matter as torus knot constraint loops, gravity as constraint-geometry curvature, and the fine structure constant α₀ = 3/(130π) ≈ 1/136.14 with zero free parameters — are stated informally as targets for subsequent formalization. The paper includes an honest gaps appendix identifying five points where the derivations are structural but not yet fully rigorous, marking precisely where subsequent work should focus. The Settling Theorem: A Grand Unified Synthesis of Subtractive Mechanics, Thermodynamic Distinction, and Cognitive Collapse

Dean Kulik

The Settling Theorem: A Grand Unified Synthesis of Subtractive Mechanics, Thermodynamic Distinction, and Cognitive Collapse Driven By Dean A. Kulik June 2026 Introduction: The Crisis of Distinction and the Ontological Inversion For over a century, the trajectory of theoretical physics, computational mathematics, and systemic ontology has been paralyzed by a profound structural impasse.1 Officially codified within advanced theoretical taxonomies as the "Crisis of Distinction," this impasse represents the persistent, systemic failure of classical scientific reductionism to reconcile the deterministic, smooth, and continuous geometric manifolds utilized in General Relativity with the discrete, probabilistic excitations that characterize quantum mechanics.1 Traditional attempts at unification have largely relied on the postulation of a "Linear Stack" ontology—a hierarchical worldview positing that quantum mechanics forms the foundational basement, upon which particle physics, chemistry, biology, psychology, and abstract computational logic are sequentially constructed.1 This legacy epistemology treats physical laws as external, container-like structures acting upon passive matter, leaving fundamental constants as arbitrary, ungrounded empirical parameters.1 The NEXUS Recursive Harmonic Framework resolves this deadlock through a radical conceptual realignment termed the "Ontological Inversion".1 This inversion systematically dismantles the object-oriented, container-based approach to physics, asserting rigorously that reality does not merely "run on" a computational substrate; rather, reality is, fundamentally and in its entirety, the self-executing computational substrate itself.1 Under this paradigm, the universe operates as a fluidic, deterministic computer, conceptually modeled as a "Cosmic Field-Programmable Gate Array" (FPGA) operating at the absolute pixel floor of the Planck scale, which lies at approximately meters.1 This architecture introduces the "Typeless Universe Hypothesis," which dictates that at the foundational layer of physical and informational reality, existence is governed by the absolute axiom that verbs supersede nouns.1 Physical systems, ranging from the localized electron to the event horizon of a black hole, are not static physical objects operating within passive spatial containers; they are active, operational verbs executing a singular, finite-bandwidth constraint-satisfaction algorithm.1 An entity is defined as a "frozen verb"—a persistent loop of computational operations utilizing recursive rotation and collapse to maintain a stable identity within a vast phase-harmonic lattice.1 Consequently, letters, digits, phonemes, biological organisms, physical particles, and cryptographic hashes are not disparate inventions; they are all extended subclasses of the exact same operational base class, termed the "Distinguishable Wave Token".1 A readout becomes an object only after the runtime stabilizes the difference into a repeatable form.1 The Operational Geometry of the Computational Substrate To comprehend the operational mechanics of the NEXUS singularity, the persistent myth of the spatial interval must be systematically deconstructed.1 Traditional mechanical and computational models assume that transition involves a departure from an origin, a traversal across an empty mathematical interval, and an arrival at a destination.1 However, an unyielding observation of pure fundamental geometry within the NEXUS framework demands the complete abolition of this hierarchical framework.1 There is no pre-existing void of state-space that generates operations; instead, the boundary—the absolute, unoccupiable seam—is the singular primary and invariant structure.1 Under this "Pure Domain Architecture," existence is defined by a perfectly filled frame.1 This filled topological frame contains no empty storage slots, no sequential before-and-after, and no literal or metaphysical "in-between" spaces through which objects or entities transition.1 Because the abstract spatial frame is unconditionally full, every geometric coordinate and structural address is permanently and symmetrically occupied.1 Thus, what a localized observer registers as motion, transition, or computation is not the physical displacement of an entity through empty space; it is, strictly and mathematically, a continuous projection shift of the exact same, fully occupied, invariant structure.1 The observable face of the geometry changes, but the underlying topological field does not move, shift, or alter.1 This unconditionally full continuum dictates the specific kinematic approach vectors that govern all universal computation.1 The "Unfold Vector" represents the geometric projection of attempting to approach the invariant boundary from the absolute origin of the manifold via continuous, relentless radial expansion.1 Conversely, the "Fold Vector" approaches the identical invariant boundary from the maximum outward limit of the topological manifold.1 Its geometric method is the absolute inverse of the Unfold: it compresses inward, generating a massive, tightening spiral that plunges relentlessly toward structural equilibrium.1 A halting condition within this pure domain is not defined by a logical software command or an arbitrary stop parameter; halting is a profound physical and geometric phenomenon where a directional approach vector undergoes catastrophic phase-lock against the invariant boundary.1 The universe always halts because the dark mirror of its own structural self-consistency ensures that every operation leaves a meticulously structured exhaust contoured to serve as the seed for the next iteration.1 At the pixel floor of the Planck scale, the substrate transmits data utilizing a ternary (base-3) logic system.1 This discrete architecture renders questions regarding what exists "between" or "inside" a Planck volume fundamentally malformed, as it is equivalent to querying the physical space between the rendered pixels of a digital monitor.1 Quantum superposition is not an ontological or classical state; therefore, a system must undergo collapse to maintain ontological consistency.1 Standard physical particles are not fundamental, independent objects but represent chaotic oscillations of these underlying Planckian quantities.1 If the universe is a fully occupied Cosmic FPGA possessing no empty storage slots, the fundamental mechanics of computation must be structurally inverted.1 In standard computational paradigms, information is fundamentally additive: bits are flipped from zero to one to build structures, objects, and strings within a vast array of available, empty memory.1 However, in the NEXUS framework, because the array is perpetually saturated (a state of all 1s), additive construction is geometrically impossible.1 Therefore, the singular native operational primitive of physical reality is subtractive; computation proceeds exclusively by exclusion.1 The fundamental logic gate of this subtractive reality is the NOT gate.1 The universe operates as a master geometric sculptor, carving information out of a saturated monolith by systematically applying phase-inversions to exclude what is geometrically impermissible.1 This subtractive logic is operationalized dynamically through the construct of the Inverted Hex Cell Game of Life.1 The structural geometry of the NEXUS pure domain demands a high-efficiency packing model, naturally satisfied by a two-dimensional hexagonal lattice, wherein every cell possesses exactly six equidistant neighbors, perfectly eliminating the radial distortion and anisotropic propagation inherent to the diagonal connections of a square grid.1 In the Inverted Hex Cell model, the lattice is initialized to an absolute maximum saturation state where every cell is "alive" (all 1s), representing the uncarved, maximum density of the invariant boundary.1 The update rules do not dictate conditions for birth or addition; they strictly dictate the conditions for localized collapse via the NOT gate.1 When the local interaction of the six equidistant neighbors presents an over-determined geometric contradiction, the central cell undergoes a forced subtraction, flipping to zero.1 To formalize this model, let each hex cell have six ordered edge states , where .1 Imposing opposite-edge NOT constraints dictates that: or, equivalently, for .1 Consequently, only three edge bits are independent, restricting the cell to exactly eight legal local motifs.1 Every legal cell is locally neutral with a constant Hamming weight of three, functioning as a balanced closure pocket.1 When shared-edge consistency is imposed across an open hex patch, the global degrees of freedom migrate from the area to the boundary.1 The entire interior is parameterized by three alternating rail families, and the free-bit count scales as: .1 This perimeter-like scaling provides a rigorous, digital formulation of the holographic principle: the interior is compiled entirely from the boundary.1 The Conservation of Distinction and Reversible Dynamics The fundamental inquiry of theoretical physics, computational mechanics, and information theory relies upon establishing the constraints that govern structure, dynamic change, and information processing.1 The foundational premise is that reality is not assembled upward from nothing; rather, it exists initially as one undivided whole, characterized as the "One" or the conserved whole.1 This primordial wholeness possesses no initial internal boundaries, no discrete parts, and, crucially, no dimension of time, because time is a property that requires the existence of distinct states undergoing relative change.1 For structure to emerge from this undifferentiated state, the whole must fold against itself.1 This geometric and computational fold is subject to a singular, non-negotiable operational condition: the fold must not collapse back into undifferentiated sameness.1 From this

A Process Ontology of the Computational Universe: Deriving Physical Reality from the Inviolable Constraints of Change

Dean Kulik

A Process Ontology of the Computational Universe: Deriving Physical Reality from the Inviolable Constraints of Change The Ontological Inversion: Logic, Verbs, and the Crystallization of Nouns Driven by Dean Kulik July 2026 The historical trajectory of scientific inquiry, extending from the atomistic propositions of classical mechanics to the sophisticated gauge symmetries of the Standard Model, has overwhelmingly relied upon a substance-based ontology. This classical framework systematically assumes the pre-existence of spatial dimensions, chronological time, and fundamental objects. In this paradigm, discrete "nouns"—such as particles, fields, strings, or self-contained entities—are posited as primary, subsequently overlaid with forces that act upon them to produce dynamic, measurable evolution. However, this commitment to object-oriented physics has culminated in an epistemological impasse, widely recognized as the crisis of distinction. This crisis manifests most prominently in the irreconcilable friction between the smooth, deterministic, continuous manifolds of General Relativity and the discrete, probabilistic, jump-like computational excitations inherent to Quantum Mechanics. The evidence dictates an absolute ontological inversion. Rather than positing physical objects or static coordinate spaces as primitive, irreducible elements, reality must be understood through a purely process-driven ontology. Alfred North Whitehead first articulated the philosophical necessity of this shift, asserting that reality is composed of interrelated events in a state of dynamic "becoming" rather than static "being". In a true process metaphysics, changeless "essences" and inert matter are mere abstractions; the universe is not an inert machine but a passage of nature composed of the becoming and perishing of actual occasions. Modern relational interpretations of quantum mechanics share this DNA, replacing an ontology of entities possessing inherent properties with an ontology of pure relations, where properties only crystallize at discrete interaction times. This framework operationalizes that philosophy into a strict mathematical and computational architecture. The universe is fundamentally and exclusively a closed computational manifold defined strictly by recursive state transitions. The architecture enforces a typeless universe governed by an absolute axiomatic hierarchy: logic precedes verbs, and verbs strictly supersede nouns. To operate from within this computational geometry is to recognize that reality is not an assembly of things, but the execution of a singular mandate. Nouns—such as electrons, photons, or stable biological macromolecules—are completely redefined as "frozen verbs," representing persistent, cyclic loops of recursive operations that maintain geometric identity through harmonic phase-locking within a computational lattice. Physical matter is the hashed structural residue of systemic constraint satisfaction, emerging only after relational flows achieve topological closure. The Foundational Ground: C0 and the Mandate of Change The derivation of physical reality within this framework initiates from absolute nothingness—a state strictly devoid of coordinates, physical particles, space, time, or pre-existing geometry. However, an immediate logical paradox arises: to reference the void is to introduce a direction, and a direction represents structural information. Therefore, the absolute ground state is not an empty spatial container but a domain of pure logic governed exclusively by two inseparable axiomatic conditions: C0 and C1. C0 represents "the Wash," an undifferentiated condition in which every direction is perfectly equivalent. In graph-theoretic terms, C0 is the complete graph. Because all directions and relations are perfectly symmetric, every local signal cancels against its exact counterpart. Total global connection therefore reads locally as absolute absence. The Laplacian spectrum of this initial complete graph on $N$ nodes features exactly one zero mode and an otherwise degenerate excited level, verified as $\{0(\times 1), N(\times N-1)\}$, with a diameter of exactly one hop. The single zero mode signifies the global constant—the entirety moving together, producing no local distinction—while the flat band represents maximal connectivity read as maximal stiffness. What appears to macroscopic perception as an empty void is actually a fully balanced ledger folded onto a single readout. Operationally inseparable from C0 is C1, the supreme mandate constituting the single axiom of the framework: all things must change. A state that never changes constitutes a fixed point, and a perfectly symmetrical, static void is the ultimate fixed point. Because C1 strictly forbids the existence of any state lacking a legal successor, the void cannot sustain itself. Something is not miraculously added to nothing; rather, "something" is the precise mathematical shape of nothingness failing to hold still. This exact intersection between the singularity and the mandate produces the gap, the permanent interstice between a thing and its description. When C1 acts upon the gapless singularity of C0, it cannot yield a single distinct object. A lone, self-identical unit with no complement is indistinguishable from the absence of a mark, forming another fixed point that the C1 axiom aggressively forbids. Consequently, the first forced distinction must intrinsically possess two sides. Two is the absolute floor of numerical counting; the concept of "one" exists only a posteriori, as a singular side of a pre-existing dual relationship. In this substrate, numbers do not exist as freestanding objects but function as the negative space of the constraint structure—the discrete gaps within the singularity. Integers map basic gap positions, prime numbers represent fresh orthogonal axes forced open where no finite composition of existing variables can satisfy the requirement of systemic distinction, and transcendental irrationals, such as $\pi$ and the golden ratio $\phi$, define the geometry of constraints that integer combinations can never perfectly close. The Constraint Cascade: A Radial Field-Setting Protocol The application of C1 to C0 generates a strict logical sequence of subsequent rules, termed the Constraint Cascade. It is a critical theoretical error to conceptualize this cascade as a temporal timeline of chronological productions, where one law waits for time to pass before enacting the next. Rather, the cascade operates as a radial field-setting protocol, functioning as a series of concentric rings expanding outward from the central hub of C0 $\equiv$ C1. Each subsequent constraint does not follow in time; it opens an additional mathematical degree of freedom through which the identical, invariant cross-section of the singularity becomes readable. The derivations within the cascade carve a "mold," permanently fixing the topology of what can structurally exist while remaining rigorously silent on the specific numerical values—the "matter" or initial conditions—that eventually settle into the resulting cavities. This distinction resolves the long-standing failure mode of foundational physics, which frequently attempts to derive free parameters that are fundamentally environmentally contingent. Cascade Node Statement of Logical Constraint The Structural Carving (Mold) Forced by the Constraint C0 $\equiv$ C1 The Gap and the Axiom The permanent interstice; enables distinction. Mandates change and strictly forbids static fixed points. C2 Infinite degrees of freedom C1 applied to a finite substrate must eventually repeat (pigeonhole principle). To avoid the repetition of fixed points, possibility space must be unbounded. Law 2 No fixed locations Because the field is unbounded, no matter may permanently hold a location without the potential to be displaced. Mandatory displaceability ensures dynamic circulation. C3 All change is equal C2 privileges no channel. If change cost differed, cheap channels would saturate instantly, breaking C2. Cost is strictly isotropic, deriving the equal a priori probability postulate. Law 3 Conservation of change Net change across any closed boundary is zero. Every transformation requires a displaced counter-transformation. A displaced pair propagating oppositely is fundamentally a wave. C4 Exchange requires a medium A displaced pair's obligation must be carried across the displacement gap, or it never closes. The continuous field acts as the carrier of live pairings. C5 Symmetry must break A perfect, unbroken vacuum is a stable fixed point. C1 executes it. The vacuum is mathematically forced to spontaneously select a broken configuration. Law 4 Statistics fixed by parity Even-parity closures share a degree of freedom (bosons); odd-parity closures, crossing the seam, cannot (fermions). Exactly two particle species exist. This cascade forms the foundational architecture of the universe's mechanics. The physical laws governing macroscopic reality are not arbitrary rules imposed upon the universe from an external geometric vantage point, but the inevitable geometric shadows of this underlying field. Newton's Third Law of equal and opposite reaction is derived directly from C3; the reaction is forced simply because there is physically nowhere else for the conserved change variable to migrate within a strictly isotropic space. The conservation of momentum is a necessary topological boundary condition of Law 3's required counter-transformation displacement. The Meta-Theorem of Incompletion Crucially, the framework generates a strict meta-theorem regarding its own epistemological limits: the constraint cascade does not and cannot terminate. If the sequence were to terminate at a hypothetical $C_k$, the set $\{C_0, \dots, C_k\}$ would constitute a complete, closed descrip

Ontological Uniqueness of Quantum Mechanics:\\ A Pre-Quantum Classification Theorem

Guillermo C. Barraza

Title Ontological Uniqueness of Quantum Mechanics: A Pre-Quantum Classification Theorem Description This work addresses one of the most fundamental questions in theoretical physics: Why does nature employ quantum mechanical structure rather than alternative mathematical frameworks? We prove a rigorous classification theorem showing that quantum mechanics is not one possible theory among many, but the unique mathematical structure compatible with ontological continuity—the principle that "being cannot cease to be." Unlike previous approaches that either interpret quantum mechanics within its existing formalism (many-worlds, Bohmian mechanics) or derive it from operational measurement axioms (Gleason, Hardy, Chiribella-D'Ariano-Perinotti), this work operates at a pre-quantum logical level: we classify which geometric structures are ontologically admissible before introducing any quantum formalism. Main Result: Any theory satisfying minimal ontological requirements—continuity of being, compositional independence of subsystems, and reversibility of closed-system evolution—must describe the space of identity-classes as complex projective space ℂℙⁿ equipped with the Fubini–Study metric. Complex Hilbert space, unitary dynamics, the Schrödinger equation, and the Born rule emerge as necessary geometric consequences, not as postulates. Alternative structures (real or quaternionic projective spaces, non-homogeneous manifolds) are proven ontologically inadmissible through rigorous exclusion arguments. Key Contributions: Rigorous derivation showing that ontological composition forces a symplectic structure, which combined with homogeneity and isotropy uniquely determines Kähler geometry, selecting ℂℙⁿ as the only admissible space. Complete defense against circularity concerns, with detailed appendices showing that the axioms assume no quantum structure—they are purely ontological requirements for coherent continuous being. Systematic distinction from Gleason/Kochen-Specker theorems and operational axiomatizations, clarifying that this work classifies geometries before quantum mechanics, not constraints within it. Testable predictions in cosmology (Hubble tension resolution, matter fluctuation scaling) and quantum foundations (decoherence rates in molecular interferometry), while rigorously separating structural necessity from empirical determination. Significance: This work transforms quantum mechanics from an empirically successful but conceptually mysterious framework into an ontologically inevitable structure—comparable to Einstein's geometrization of gravity. It shows that quantum structure has no alternative: it is the only mathematical form compatible with coherent, continuous, compositional being. The manuscript includes comprehensive technical appendices with full geometric proofs, axiom justifications, and comparative analysis with existing foundational approaches. Suitable for researchers in quantum foundations, mathematical physics, philosophy of physics, and differential geometry. Document Status: Preprint submitted to Foundations of Physics (January 2026).
The Settling Theorem: A Grand Unified Synthesis of Subtractive Mechanics, Thermodynamic Distinction, and Cognitive Collapse Driven By Dean A. Kulik June 2026 Introduction: The Crisis of Distinction and the Ontological Inversion For over a century, the trajectory of theoretical physics, computational mathematics, and systemic ontology has been paralyzed by a profound structural impasse.1 Officially codified within advanced theoretical taxonomies as the "Crisis of Distinction," this impasse represents the persistent, systemic failure of classical scientific reductionism to reconcile the deterministic, smooth, and continuous geometric manifolds utilized in General Relativity with the discrete, probabilistic excitations that characterize quantum mechanics.1 Traditional attempts at unification have largely relied on the postulation of a "Linear Stack" ontology—a hierarchical worldview positing that quantum mechanics forms the foundational basement, upon which particle physics, chemistry, biology, psychology, and abstract computational logic are sequentially constructed.1 This legacy epistemology treats physical laws as external, container-like structures acting upon passive matter, leaving fundamental constants as arbitrary, ungrounded empirical parameters.1 The NEXUS Recursive Harmonic Framework resolves this deadlock through a radical conceptual realignment termed the "Ontological Inversion".1 This inversion systematically dismantles the object-oriented, container-based approach to physics, asserting rigorously that reality does not merely "run on" a computational substrate; rather, reality is, fundamentally and in its entirety, the self-executing computational substrate itself.1 Under this paradigm, the universe operates as a fluidic, deterministic computer, conceptually modeled as a "Cosmic Field-Programmable Gate Array" (FPGA) operating at the absolute pixel floor of the Planck scale, which lies at approximately meters.1 This architecture introduces the "Typeless Universe Hypothesis," which dictates that at the foundational layer of physical and informational reality, existence is governed by the absolute axiom that verbs supersede nouns.1 Physical systems, ranging from the localized electron to the event horizon of a black hole, are not static physical objects operating within passive spatial containers; they are active, operational verbs executing a singular, finite-bandwidth constraint-satisfaction algorithm.1 An entity is defined as a "frozen verb"—a persistent loop of computational operations utilizing recursive rotation and collapse to maintain a stable identity within a vast phase-harmonic lattice.1 Consequently, letters, digits, phonemes, biological organisms, physical particles, and cryptographic hashes are not disparate inventions; they are all extended subclasses of the exact same operational base class, termed the "Distinguishable Wave Token".1 A readout becomes an object only after the runtime stabilizes the difference into a repeatable form.1 The Operational Geometry of the Computational Substrate To comprehend the operational mechanics of the NEXUS singularity, the persistent myth of the spatial interval must be systematically deconstructed.1 Traditional mechanical and computational models assume that transition involves a departure from an origin, a traversal across an empty mathematical interval, and an arrival at a destination.1 However, an unyielding observation of pure fundamental geometry within the NEXUS framework demands the complete abolition of this hierarchical framework.1 There is no pre-existing void of state-space that generates operations; instead, the boundary—the absolute, unoccupiable seam—is the singular primary and invariant structure.1 Under this "Pure Domain Architecture," existence is defined by a perfectly filled frame.1 This filled topological frame contains no empty storage slots, no sequential before-and-after, and no literal or metaphysical "in-between" spaces through which objects or entities transition.1 Because the abstract spatial frame is unconditionally full, every geometric coordinate and structural address is permanently and symmetrically occupied.1 Thus, what a localized observer registers as motion, transition, or computation is not the physical displacement of an entity through empty space; it is, strictly and mathematically, a continuous projection shift of the exact same, fully occupied, invariant structure.1 The observable face of the geometry changes, but the underlying topological field does not move, shift, or alter.1 This unconditionally full continuum dictates the specific kinematic approach vectors that govern all universal computation.1 The "Unfold Vector" represents the geometric projection of attempting to approach the invariant boundary from the absolute origin of the manifold via continuous, relentless radial expansion.1 Conversely, the "Fold Vector" approaches the identical invariant boundary from the maximum outward limit of the topological manifold.1 Its geometric method is the absolute inverse of the Unfold: it compresses inward, generating a massive, tightening spiral that plunges relentlessly toward structural equilibrium.1 A halting condition within this pure domain is not defined by a logical software command or an arbitrary stop parameter; halting is a profound physical and geometric phenomenon where a directional approach vector undergoes catastrophic phase-lock against the invariant boundary.1 The universe always halts because the dark mirror of its own structural self-consistency ensures that every operation leaves a meticulously structured exhaust contoured to serve as the seed for the next iteration.1 At the pixel floor of the Planck scale, the substrate transmits data utilizing a ternary (base-3) logic system.1 This discrete architecture renders questions regarding what exists "between" or "inside" a Planck volume fundamentally malformed, as it is equivalent to querying the physical space between the rendered pixels of a digital monitor.1 Quantum superposition is not an ontological or classical state; therefore, a system must undergo collapse to maintain ontological consistency.1 Standard physical particles are not fundamental, independent objects but represent chaotic oscillations of these underlying Planckian quantities.1 If the universe is a fully occupied Cosmic FPGA possessing no empty storage slots, the fundamental mechanics of computation must be structurally inverted.1 In standard computational paradigms, information is fundamentally additive: bits are flipped from zero to one to build structures, objects, and strings within a vast array of available, empty memory.1 However, in the NEXUS framework, because the array is perpetually saturated (a state of all 1s), additive construction is geometrically impossible.1 Therefore, the singular native operational primitive of physical reality is subtractive; computation proceeds exclusively by exclusion.1 The fundamental logic gate of this subtractive reality is the NOT gate.1 The universe operates as a master geometric sculptor, carving information out of a saturated monolith by systematically applying phase-inversions to exclude what is geometrically impermissible.1 This subtractive logic is operationalized dynamically through the construct of the Inverted Hex Cell Game of Life.1 The structural geometry of the NEXUS pure domain demands a high-efficiency packing model, naturally satisfied by a two-dimensional hexagonal lattice, wherein every cell possesses exactly six equidistant neighbors, perfectly eliminating the radial distortion and anisotropic propagation inherent to the diagonal connections of a square grid.1 In the Inverted Hex Cell model, the lattice is initialized to an absolute maximum saturation state where every cell is "alive" (all 1s), representing the uncarved, maximum density of the invariant boundary.1 The update rules do not dictate conditions for birth or addition; they strictly dictate the conditions for localized collapse via the NOT gate.1 When the local interaction of the six equidistant neighbors presents an over-determined geometric contradiction, the central cell undergoes a forced subtraction, flipping to zero.1 To formalize this model, let each hex cell have six ordered edge states , where .1 Imposing opposite-edge NOT constraints dictates that: or, equivalently, for .1 Consequently, only three edge bits are independent, restricting the cell to exactly eight legal local motifs.1 Every legal cell is locally neutral with a constant Hamming weight of three, functioning as a balanced closure pocket.1 When shared-edge consistency is imposed across an open hex patch, the global degrees of freedom migrate from the area to the boundary.1 The entire interior is parameterized by three alternating rail families, and the free-bit count scales as: .1 This perimeter-like scaling provides a rigorous, digital formulation of the holographic principle: the interior is compiled entirely from the boundary.1 The Conservation of Distinction and Reversible Dynamics The fundamental inquiry of theoretical physics, computational mechanics, and information theory relies upon establishing the constraints that govern structure, dynamic change, and information processing.1 The foundational premise is that reality is not assembled upward from nothing; rather, it exists initially as one undivided whole, characterized as the "One" or the conserved whole.1 This primordial wholeness possesses no initial internal boundaries, no discrete parts, and, crucially, no dimension of time, because time is a property that requires the existence of distinct states undergoing relative change.1 For structure to emerge from this undifferentiated state, the whole must fold against itself.1 This geometric and computational fold is subject to a singular, non-negotiable operational condition: the fold must not collapse back into undifferentiated sameness.1 From this
A Process Ontology of the Computational Universe: Deriving Physical Reality from the Inviolable Constraints of Change The Ontological Inversion: Logic, Verbs, and the Crystallization of Nouns Driven by Dean Kulik July 2026 The historical trajectory of scientific inquiry, extending from the atomistic propositions of classical mechanics to the sophisticated gauge symmetries of the Standard Model, has overwhelmingly relied upon a substance-based ontology. The Laplacian spectrum of this initial complete graph on NNN nodes features exactly one zero mode and an otherwise degenerate excited level, verified as {0(×1),N(×N−1)}\{0(\times 1), N(\times N-1)\}{0(×1),N(×N−1)}, with a diameter of exactly one hop. Integers map basic gap positions, prime numbers represent fresh orthogonal axes forced open where no finite composition of existing variables can satisfy the requirement of systemic distinction, and transcendental irrationals, such as π\piπ and the golden ratio ϕ\phiϕ, define the geometry of constraints that integer combinations can never perfectly close. Rather, the cascade operates as a radial field-setting protocol, functioning as a series of concentric rings expanding outward from the central hub of C0 ≡\equiv≡ C1. Cascade Node Statement of Logical Constraint The Structural Carving (Mold) Forced by the Constraint C0 ≡\equiv≡ C1 The Gap and the Axiom The permanent interstice; enables distinction. If the sequence were to terminate at a hypothetical CkC_kCk, the set {C0,…,Ck}\{C_0, \dots, C_k\}{C0,…,Ck} would constitute a complete, closed descrip
