[Transmission properties of Faraday anomalous dispersion optical filter at 532 nm].

Yufeng Peng, Zhuo Cheng, Qiu J +2 more

In this paper the properties of an excited-state potassium Faraday anomalous dispersion optical filter in potassium vapor with a pump wavelength of 769.90 nm (i.e. 4S1/2-->4P1/2 transition) and a signal wavelength of 532 nm (i.e. 4P1/2-->8S1/2 transition) are calculated and discussed. The filter's transmissions versus the laser pump power and the external magnetic-field are obtained. The theoretical results show the transmission characteristics of the filter are relatively insensitive to the laser pump power and magnetic strength. The laser pump powers require range from 0.8 to 6 mW.cm-2. Our model predicts a peak transmission of 50% and an equivalent band-width of 4 GHz for the filter operating on the 4P1/2<--8S1/2 transition in potassium. The optical filter at 532 nm presented in this paper may be used to detect the practical and important frequency-doubled Nd:YAG laser.

Parametric non-degenerate four wave mixing in hot potassium vapor

B. Zlatković, Aleksandar J. Krmpot, Nikola Šibalić +2 more

In this study we show the results for parametric non-degenerate four wave mixing (FWM) obtained using double lambda scheme at D1 line in hot potassium vapor. We have investigated the influence of one-photon detuning and two-photon detuning on the FWM gain. The laser frequency is locked at approximately 1GHz from the resonance 4S1/2 Fg=1 -< 4P1/2, using external reference cavity. The probe beam passes through acoustooptic modulator that enables controllable detuning around 460 MHz (ground state hyperfine splitting) in respect to the pump beam. The vacuum glass cell containing the potassium vapor was heated by hot air in order to achieve necessary concentration of atoms. The efficiency of FWM process is studied by measuring the gains of the conjugate beam the probe beam, simultaneously. The maximal gain was achieved for nonzero two photon detuning.

Effect of dephasing on modulation transfer in potassium

Vinay Shukla, Pratanu Chakraborty, Ayan Ray

Abstract In this work, experimental studies on the effect of dephasing on modulation transfer are reported. Here Potassium D1 transition, i.e., 39K 4S1/2(F) → 4P1/2(F/), is used as the medium. The 4 S→4P connection is modified by introducing two independent lasers. The separation between ground hyperfine states 4S1/2(F = 2,1) is almost half of Doppler width (~ 815 MHz). Hence, the two-level connections satisfied by respective lasers are overlapping in nature. In such cases, the existing optical pumping for particular F = 1, 2→ F/ channel influences each other. Further, the D1 transition itself is an open transition, i.e., it does not have any cyclic decay route. Hence, decay from each of the F/=2,1 states can also influence the population in the other F/state. Our pump-probe spectroscopy results clearly show the presence of Four Wave Mixing due to degenerate two-level and Vee (V) coupling, Electromagnetically Induced Transparency (EIT) signals due to single Lambda (Λ) and Double Λ connections. We have studied these signals as a function of dephasing, which is mainly contributed by transit time broadening for two different regimes of pump laser intensities: (i) below and (ii) above saturation intensity level of 4S1/2(F) → 4P1/2(F/) transition. The pump laser is current modulated, and phase-sensitive detection is performed on the probe transmission to study modulation transfer under different values of coherent dephasing. For this purpose, the beam size of the pump laser is varied systematically. This study provides a scope to explore the modulation transfer as a function of transit time broadening, and it may find applications in photonics technology where potassium vapor is used as a medium.
