Complex Phase Structure Emerging from Nontrivial Quadratic Closure: A Foundational Connection to Finite-Order Exchange Systems and Discrete Born-Type Weights
This preprint separates two mathematically distinct quadratic structures in a closed exchange model. The algebraic closure form Q_0(x)=sum_k x_k^2 contains no conjugation, whereas the positive readout Q_+(x)=sum_k x_k^*x_k is introduced only at the observation stage. For a nontrivial solution of Q_0=0 over a commutative extension K containing the real field, the solution vector must lie outside R^N. In the minimal two-component case x^2+y^2=0 with x nonzero, the ratio y/x is a square root of -1 and generates the minimal subfield R(i), isomorphic to C, without using complex conjugation. With additional assumptions of continuity, reversibility, positive-readout preservation, exchange symmetry, finite order, and squared-amplitude readout, the previously derived discrete channel weights cos^2(pi m/n) and sin^2(pi m/n) are recovered. The paper also proves that the existing kernel U=P_s+zeta P_a does not generally preserve the Q_0=0 closure cone: for x_0=(1,i)^T, Q_0(Ux_0)=i(1-zeta^2). Thus the dynamical connection between algebraic quadratic closure and the finite-order exchange kernel remains an explicit open problem, labeled C2. The work does not derive the full Born frequency rule; it identifies the nonreal direction forced by nontrivial quadratic closure and classifies the additional constructions required to reach discrete Born-type weights.

This preprint proves a finite-order recurrence theorem for an exchange-symmetric two-channel unitary operator shared by numerical models of wave-packet localization transfer and metastable A/B observation selection. After fixing the global phase, exchange symmetry gives U = P_s + zeta P_a and the channel amplitudes r = (1 + zeta)/2 and t = (1 - zeta)/2. Exact recurrence U^n = I selects cyclotomic eigenphases zeta = exp(-2 pi i m/n), yielding the discrete channel-projection weights |r|^2 = cos^2(pi m/n) and |t|^2 = sin^2(pi m/n). The result was identified after unexplained numerical peaks had been observed; no Born-type objective function or finite-order root was inserted into the search code. The paper does not claim a derivation of the complete Born rule or its experimental frequency interpretation. It establishes instead that finite-order closure selects a discrete sequence of Born-type transition weights in the exchange-symmetric two-channel kernel, while channel-wise normalization, weak readout, and strong-observation backreaction remain distinct downstream maps.
# Abstract — Complex Structure from a Non‑Split Fine Step, and Born Weights as Operational Closure We present a compact extension of the ε‑Projection (“time-as-leakage”) framework that targets a separate foundational “why”: why quantum theory is naturally formulated with complex amplitudes, and what minimal additional assumption fixes the Born weights once a complex structure is present. The starting point is the non‑split cyclic clock architecture (e.g., a Z48 lift with kernel Z24), whose fine generator implements an unavoidable toggle+carry action on labels K=2k+p. After Fourier transforming along the kernel direction k, each momentum sector reduces to an explicit 2×2 unitary block g(q) satisfying the exact projective identity g(q)2=eiq1. This makes the phase degree of freedom structural rather than decorative: the minimal faithful representation requires a rotation plane with an operator J obeying J2=−1, i.e., a complex structure (equivalently, complex amplitudes or a real 2D formulation with SO(2)≅U(1) phase rotations). We then give a worked IR/coarse-graining interpretation showing how repeated discrete fine steps admit a continuous, norm-preserving evolution of the form U(t)≈e−JHefft (or e−iHefft in complex notation), with Heff self-adjoint. Complex structure alone does not yet specify probabilities. To close that gap at the “weights” level (without claiming to solve the full measurement problem), we state a minimal operational assumption: noncontextual additivity of probabilities over mutually exclusive outcomes represented by projectors (or, more generally, POVM effects). Under standard theorems (Gleason-type results, with POVM extensions covering the two-dimensional case), this assumption forces probabilities to take the trace form p(P)=Tr(ρP), yielding the Born weights p(P)=∥Pψ∥2 for pure states. The combined message is that (i) projective phase structure and a complex J arise naturally from the non‑split fine-step clock, and (ii) once one adopts the standard operational identification of “events” with subspaces/effects and requires consistent noncontextual additivity, the Born weights follow as the unique probability calculus. Open work is then cleanly separated: deriving measurement dynamics (records, effective irreversibility) from the projection/open-system sector rather than postulating it.
We derive the quadratic Born rule in a finite-dimensional Ledger quantum framework. Reciprocal closure is represented by an additive, multiplicative involution on complex scalars that fixes the reals and assigns nonnegative support to closed branches, uniquely selecting complex conjugation. Closure-flat publicization is a positive, additive, unital map on nonnegative scalars and is therefore the identity without assuming continuity. Finite orthogonal committed-record decompositions consequently acquire quadratic weights after exhaustive normalization. Isometric dilation extends the result to arbitrary finite instruments, while purification yields the type-I trace rule. The derivation remains conditional on complex linear kinematics, committed-record structure, and the interpretation of normalized public weights as probabilities. Continuum and general von Neumann-algebraic extensions require additional structure.
This paper develops a closure-induced complex-structure construction within Registration Theory (RT). Earlier RT work established, under stated assumptions or within canonical finite models, involutive conjugate exchange, hyperbolic reciprocal mixing, retained/current organization, parity structures, invariant closure, persistent localization, receiver-conditioned consequence, and bilateral participant-exchange structures. The present work identifies a precise algebraic bridge between these structures. If persistent closure selects a common two-component sector on which conjugate exchange and closure-orientation parity are involutions and anticommute, then their composition necessarily defines a complex structure whose square is -I. The associated one-parameter action is therefore compact and 2pi-periodic, and closed orbits of that action possess integer winding classes. The result provides a possible Registration Theory route from continuous registration dynamics to algebraically discrete organizational classes without requiring a postulated minimum physical scale. The paper carefully separates this exact algebraic result from two remaining open problems: deriving the common closed sector from primitive registration dynamics, and showing that physically individuated registration succession is generated by or faithfully represented by the compact phase action. The paper also clarifies the ontological ordering of Registration Theory. Registration and registered organization are treated as prior to symmetry descriptions, while space-, time-, and energy-facing variables are treated as mutually related registered expressions rather than independent primitive substances. Normalization geometries are treated as model realizations unless separately derived. The work does not claim a derivation of quantum mechanics, Hilbert space, the Born rule, Planck's constant, electric charge, spin, particle spectra, mass, radiation, gauge theory, or the Standard Model. Its contribution is narrower: it identifies an exact RT-specific algebraic route by which two involutive registration operations can induce a compact complex structure and possible discrete organizational classes, while keeping the remaining physical realization problems explicit.
Symmersion and the Born Rule develops a conditional structural reconstruction of quantum probability from conserved binary distinction, exchange completion, reciprocal conjugation, quadratic norm, orthogonal outcome channels, and stochastic event closure. The Born rule assigns the probability of an outcome represented by an orthogonal projector Π_j as: P_j = ⟨ψ|Π_j|ψ⟩ For a state expanded in an orthonormal basis, |ψ⟩ = Σ_j c_j |j⟩ the corresponding outcome weights are: P_j = |c_j|² Complex amplitude, conjugation, quadratic norm, orthogonal decomposition, normalization, and stochastic realization are individually standard. The question addressed here is why they may belong to one structural architecture, and why the reciprocal pair underlying complex conjugation should exist in the first place. The paper introduces symmersion as the minimal exchange-completion of a realized asymmetric law. If J is an involutive exchange satisfying J² = I, then the exchange action on a law A is: A -> JAJ and its symmersion is: Symm_J(A) = {A, JAJ} with the singleton case understood when JAJ = A. For a positive binary projective law with ratio coordinate r, the exchange-conjugate map satisfies: f_JAJ(r) = 1 / f_A(1/r) Whenever the original map has a positive fixed point r*, the exchange-conjugate map has the reciprocal fixed point: r*^-1 The distinguishability tension tau(r) = r / (1 + r)² is invariant under inversion: tau(1/r) = tau(r) Symmersion therefore produces reciprocal conjugacy base-generally. It does not by itself select the golden ratio. Applied to the conserved binary recurrence L_(n+1) = L_n + S_nS_(n+1) = L_n with matrix A_+ = [[1, 1], [1, 0]] the projective ratio satisfies: r_(n+1) = 1 + 1/r_n Its unique positive fixed point is the golden ratio: phi = (1 + sqrt(5)) / 2 The exchange-conjugate law is: A_- = J A_+ J = [[0, 1], [1, 1]] and its positive fixed point is: phi^-1 The completed law orbit therefore contains reciprocal equilibria: {phi, phi^-1} The golden ratio enters only through the upstream selection of the conserved binary recurrence. The later reciprocal and complex constructions do not independently privilege phi. Symmersion initially produces an orbit of laws, while the amplitude construction requires a simultaneous reciprocal pair within one state. The Equivariant Pairing Proposition supplies this step. Under the exchange embedding x -> (x, Jx) the paired evolution A_+ ⊕ A_- preserves the relation: x_n^- = Jx_n^+ Consequently, the projective coordinates remain exactly reciprocal at every step: r_n^- = 1 / r_n^+ This is not merely an equilibrium relation. The reciprocal pair is maintained throughout the paired evolution. One interpretive commitment remains explicit: the complete physical state is represented by the exchange orbit, realized as the equivariantly paired state, rather than by one arbitrarily selected representative. The reciprocal fixed-point pair is then extended continuously. If F satisfies F(0) = 1F(s + t) = F(s)F(t)F(1) = phi and F is continuous and positive, then: F(s) = phi^s with: F(-s) = phi^(-s) = 1/F(s) The continuous reciprocal branches are therefore: r_+(s) = A phi^sr_-(s) = A phi^(-s) Their product is invariant: r_+(s) r_-(s) = A² and their ratio carries signed asymmetry: r_+(s) / r_-(s) = phi^(2s) After phase calibration, the reciprocal pair can be mapped to a complex amplitude. Under this correspondence: branch product -> squared modulusbranch ratio -> phasebranch exchange -> complex conjugation The state is linear in its amplitude carrier but quadratic in its invariant completion: Psi* Psi = |Psi|² For two orthogonal amplitude magnitudes a and b, Euclidean composition gives: combined magnitude = sqrt(a² + b²) If a non-negative observable weight W satisfies: W(sqrt(a² + b²)) = W(a) + W(b) and W(1) = 1 then the unique admissible weight is: W(a) = a² The exponent two is therefore fixed by Euclidean orthogonal composition together with non-negative additivity and normalization. Repeatable resolution requires an idempotent channel map: P² = P If the resolved component and its complement also satisfy the Pythagorean identity ||ψ||² = ||Pψ||² + ||(I - P)ψ||² for every ψ, then P must be an orthogonal projector: P = P† For a complete family of mutually orthogonal projectors satisfying Π_j Π_k = delta_jk Π_j and Σ_j Π_j = I the norm decomposes as: ||ψ||² = Σ_j ||Π_j ψ||² For a normalized state: Σ_j ||Π_j ψ||² = 1 and the quadratic channel weights are: P_j = ||Π_j ψ||² = ⟨ψ|Π_j|ψ⟩ At this stage the Born weights are established as normalized channel weights. To obtain terminal event frequencies, the paper enters a finite-dimensional, norm-preserving Wiener closure class with a single closure rate Gamma_cl > 0. Within this class, Ito norm preservation fixes the drift-diffusion relation, each spectral weight is a bounded martingale, and absorption into one terminal event sector yields: Prob(event j) = |⟨j|ψ_0⟩|² The numerical value of Gamma_cl affects the temporal profile of closure but not the terminal Born frequencies. The stochastic mechanism is mathematically continuous with the established collapse-model and quantum-state-diffusion literature. The proposed contribution is not the discovery of the martingale route itself. It is the structural argument motivating the reciprocal geometry, the transition into a norm-preserving closure class, and the exclusion of an independent rate arising solely from branch orientation. The full conditional chain is: unity-> co-constituted distinction-> conserved asymmetric recurrence-> exchange-conjugate law orbit-> equivariantly paired state-> exact reciprocal coordinates-> continuous reciprocal flow-> complex conjugate amplitude-> quadratic norm-> orthogonal channel weights-> Born event frequency The claim boundary is explicit. The matrix identities are elementary and their novelty is claimed architecturally rather than computationally. Symmersion produces reciprocal structure but does not independently select phi. The physical representation of the complete state by the exchange orbit remains an interpretive premise. The Euclidean composition law, the selected stochastic closure class, and the single source-level closure rate are stated assumptions or inherited structural premises. The paper does not claim an unconditional derivation of all quantum mechanics, a new physical sector, or an experimental confirmation of symmersion. The companion validation ledger, validate_symmersion.py, implements 63 checks keyed to the paper’s numbered equations and results. SymPy verifies the implemented algebraic identities exactly, including exchange conjugacy, equivariant pairing, reciprocal flow, amplitude reconstruction, quadratic composition, orthogonality checks, and symbolic Ito drift-diffusion relations. NumPy tests the numerical consistency of selected dynamical and stochastic claims through direct iteration, random-law checks, and Monte Carlo simulation. The stochastic simulations reproduce two-state and three-state Born frequencies within the stated Monte Carlo tolerances, support the martingale behaviour of spectral weights, and are statistically consistent with closure-rate independence of terminal frequencies. The script does not mechanically prove the functional uniqueness arguments, interpretive premises, imported literature results, or physical validity. Those elements are proved in the paper, supported through cited literature, or stated explicitly as assumptions. The result is a completed finite-dimensional structural reconstruction under declared premises, supplying the previously missing exchange-completion origin of the simultaneous reciprocal pair on which the later Born architecture depends. Quantum Mechanics from Constraint and Closure: A Structural Explanation and Derivational Roadmap assembles a sequence of ENSO quantum-foundations results into a single explanatory architecture. The paper asks why central structures of quantum mechanics—complex phase, conjugation, quadratic norm, Schrödinger dynamics, spinorial return, Born weighting, and measurement—belong together rather than appearing as an unrelated collection of formal ingredients. The proposed route begins with constraint-bearing distinction and minimal maintained recursion. Within an explicit primitive two-state class, recursive minimality selects the Fibonacci structure and its Perron root ϕ. Exchange completion (symmersion) derives a reciprocal pair, continuity and composability lift that pair to reciprocal flow, and bounded return selects a rotational generator satisfying J2=−I. Constraint-bearing eigenmodes then become phase-readable in Schrödinger form once ℏ supplies the action scale. Reciprocal product and exchange map exactly to quadratic norm and complex conjugation; Euclidean orthogonal composition fixes squared weight; repeatability leads to orthogonal projection; and intrinsic closure supplies the framework for event readability. A new canonical result provides an independent convergence. For a real symplectic system containing a genuinely non-real, non-unit scale-phase eigenmode, reality and symplectic reciprocity force the spectral orbit λ, λ̄, λ⁻¹, λ̄⁻¹ Such a mode is impossible in real symplectic dimension two; four dimensions are minimal. The resulting reciprocal-conjugate quartet contains exactly the reciprocal pairings used in the earlier closure geometry. The accompanying reproducibility archive contains the manuscript source, direct construction validator, adversarial null-test suite, captured outputs, machine-readable results, near-symplectic perturbation diagnostics, exact symbolic audit, validation-run provenance note, and package checksums. All twelve declared null tests pass in both recorded executions. The paper distinguishes completed mathematics, structural derivation, exact representation, and the remaining roadmap toward a fully native reconstruction of quantum theory.
