Coherent control of optical lattices and optical unit cells in atomic medium by counter propagation of Laguerre Gaussian beams

Latif Ur Rahman, U. Zakir, Bakht Amin Bacha +3 more

This manuscript explores the coherent control of optical lattices and optical unit cells. Optical lattices are formed by the counter-propagation of Laguerre Gaussian beams within an atomic medium. Variations in absorption and the refractive index along the x and y axes provide insight into the confined modes of the optical lattice and its unit cells, from which we can extract information about mode confinement. Density plots of the absorption spectrum and refractive index reveal the presence of unit cells in both the valley and peak regions of the counter-propagating Laguerre Gaussian standing wave fields. In this manuscript, we control the Wigner and cubic-type unit cells of optical lattices with lattice parameters [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text].

Time-reversal-symmetry breaking in a scalable cavity QED lattice

Yusef Maleki, Chaofan Zhou, Muhammad Suhail Zubairy

In this study, we explore the breaking of time-reversal symmetry in a scalable cavity quantum electrodynamics (QED) lattice. Such a lattice consists of triangular cells of three cavities coupled to a two-level atom. We synthesize artificial magnetic fields to enable the chiral transfer of photons by sinusoidally modulating the cavity frequencies. Considering various configurations with different numbers of cells in the system, we analyze the circulation of photons and investigate the effect of the frequency modulation on the control of the state transfer in the system. We show the breaking and sustaining of time-reversal symmetry in certain system geometries and consider the scalability of the generating synthetic magnetic field in the system. Our study highlights the potential of scalable cavity QED lattices with synthetic magnetic fields as a versatile tool for investigating quantum phenomena and shows the utility of these systems to serve as test beds for the simulation of condensed matter systems in quantum optical settings.

Probe frequency- and field intensity-sensitive coherent control effects in an EIT-based periodic layered medium

Teh‐Chau Liau, Jin‐Jei Wu, Jianqi Shen Jianqi Shen +1 more

A periodic layered medium, with unit cells consisting of a dielectric and an electromagnetically-induced transparency (EIT)-based atomic vapor, is designed for light propagation manipulation.Considering that a destructive quantum interference relevant to a two-photon resonance emerges in EIT-based atoms interacting with both control and probe fields, an EIT-based periodic layered medium exhibits a flexible frequency-sensitive optical response, where a very small variation in the probe frequency can lead to a drastic variation in reflectance and transmittance. The present EIT-based periodic layered structure can result in controllable optical processes that depend sensitively on the external control field. The tunable and sensitive optical response induced by the quantum interference of a multi-level atomic system can be applied in the fabrication of new photonic and quantum optical devices. This material will also open a good perspective for the application of such designs in several new fields, including photonic microcircuits or integrated optical circuits.
