The measurement problem is usually named as a single difficulty. This paper partitions it, using two independent, continuously graded axes along which any physical record can be placed. Distinguishability φ₁ measures how close a record's environmental branches are to orthogonality — the Fubini–Study angle to a distinguishable state, normalised so that the quantum speed limit's quarter-turn sits at the axis's live end. Irreversibility φ₂ measures how far undoing the record lies outside a given observer's reach. A fact requires both. Plotting the two axes yields a facthood plane whose accessible region is a triangle, φ₂ ≤ φ₁, derived from the axes' meaning rather than posited; the quantum eraser is predicted at the corner where the axes decouple, and thermal-decoherence data on C70 give the φ₁ edge measured coordinates. The same structure resolves Schrödinger's cat by separating two questions the paradox conflates, dissolves the realistic Wigner's-friend scenario, and reduces the idealised (Frauchiger–Renner) scenario to the definite-outcome problem, locating the exact cross-agent assumption on which the no-go result turns. Finally, the account has a precise boundary: everything it settles is a property of the reduced density matrix ρ, and the definite-outcome problem lives below ρ, where a ρ-level grammar is blind by type. That boundary is stated as a result — a clean cut between what decoherence settles and what it cannot — not as a confession. No new empirical quantity is introduced; the contribution is the structure and the placement of the wall. Full bilingual text and framework available at self-as-an-end.net This paper gives an ontological characterization of quantum measurement: measurement is a 4DD ρ-AND closure event that forcibly gathers the ρ-OR capacity structure below the causal slot, drives it across the slot, and settles it into a single content record above. On this reading, "wavefunction collapse" is no longer an unexplained additional postulate but precisely this settling — irreversible along the causal axis. The paper distinguishes two irreversibilities that occur together in any measurement yet fall on different axes: decoherence belongs to the energy–thermodynamic axis and is in principle reversible at an energetic price; settling belongs to the information–causal axis and is irreversible because the causal arrow is one-way — no quantity of energy buys back its inverse. It then anatomizes the crossing as a span of operations — from scale, to direction, to memory, to closure — and on that basis reclassifies the quantum Zeno effect, Wigner's friend and Frauchiger–Renner, Kochen–Specker, and many-worlds as so many forms of a single confusion: mistaking pre-closure capacity (ρ-OR) for post-closure content (ρ-AND). As to the division of labor, the preceding paper supplied the Born weights of the alternatives at closure; this paper supplies the ontological identity of how a single content is generated; and the subsequent macroscopic stabilization of that content is left to later work. This paper changes none of the observable predictions of standard quantum mechanics, and offers no non-trivial prediction that would separate the framework from standard quantum mechanics in experiment; its weight lies at the ontological level — in identifying measurement as the bridge between the two sides of the causal slot. All referenced Self-as-an-End papers, by Zenodo DOI. Classical theories typically model a complete record as a unary function of a physical state, treating observation conditions as external parameters. However, quantum mechanics exhibits a fundamental tension: the same independently certified physical input can yield different complete records when observation conditions vary, giving rise to the century-old measurement problem and the EPR paradox. In this work, we derive the necessary state architecture to resolve this without conflating the physical input with the conditions through which its record is formed. By applying behavioral equivalence and redundancy elimination within the category of sets, we prove that the formation-side difference cannot be mathematically removed. This forces the “observation state” to emerge as an irreducible, objective, state-bearing axis, establishing a strict physical–observation dual-axis (PODA) architecture. We emphasize that this dual-axis structure represents two non-interchangeable projection responsibilities, rather than orthogonal coordinates or dynamically decoupled systems. Under stated coherence and composition conditions, this dual-axis geometry naturally yields the complex field, binary projective geometry, and the Born trace pairing. Crucially, it further derives the Schrödinger equation as a covariant temporal composition, the CHSH inequality, and the attainable Tsirelson bound. In standard quantum mechanics, the complex field, the Schrödinger equation, and the Born rule are independent axioms. In our framework, they are unified as geometric corollaries of the PODA structure. Within this framework, the notorious quantum paradoxes are naturally dissolved: “wave-function collapse” is revealed as a conditional transition at the observation interface, and “decoherence” is understood as the objective geometric coupling between the physical and observation axes, rather than random environmental noise. Bell violation is thereby identified not as superluminal influence, but as the absence of a positive global answer section across incompatible observation states. Finally, the theory proposes a specific table-top experiment that predicts a sharp, parameter-free numerical constant: a geometric phase of 0.7π ≈ 2.1991 radians. This value directly distinguishes the dualaxis mechanism from standard quantum mechanics, which predicts exactly zero for the same configuration. Observing this constant would confirm the physical reality of the observation axis, whereas a null result falsifies the mechanism.

Full bilingual text and framework available at self-as-an-end.net This paper is the third movement of the SAE (Self-as-an-End) quantum-mechanics series, the movement that turns from the microscopic toward the macroscopic; it treats decoherence, the emergence of the classical world, and the ontology of what remains after measurement. Part I establishes the ontological identity of decoherence: a ledger-merger into a non-factorizable joint ledger that includes the environment, phase delocalization, and a dephased yet still many-valued objective menu (menu-information); settling is not a result of decoherence but a non-unitary extraction of a single content at a later boundary — capacity is not annihilated by settling but persists as a ρ-OR conditioned on the record, while the single content is borne by a ρ-AND record. Applying the four-fold methodology to the rung L₄d yields the subdivision L₄da–dd, whereby slot-crossing and settling appear as two successive boundaries on one and the same sequence rather than two independent axes: slot-crossing (L₄dc) is unitary with thermodynamic irreversibility, settling (L₄dd) is non-unitary with the causal irreversibility; the line of reversibility is therefore drawn at the causal slot, not at size, "macroscopic" being categorial. Part II gives the cascaded mechanism and timescales (partial ledger-mergers, a renewal-encapsulated nested structure, a homogeneous renewal skeleton), proposing no independent decoherence rate. Part III reclassifies several interpretive cruxes: the framework is not a GRW/CSL-type dynamical-collapse theory, not many-worlds, not hidden variables; it is concordant with Copenhagen but splits its blurred boundary into two orthogonal steps; the density matrix is a coarse representation of the capacity layer, blind to the content boundary; the quantum Zeno effect, Wigner's friend, and Kochen–Specker are each set back into place. That all things are discrete at a sufficiently small scale — the probability cloud included — is a hard, falsifiable prior the framework lays openly on the table, its specific scale left to be measured empirically. The whole is a purely ontological re-reading, contesting standard quantum mechanics on not one inch of empirical ground.

Canonical GitHub repository:https://github.com/yiningwu-research/Distinction-Theory FDS-Q1 develops the quantum-record-boundary paper in the Q-series of Finite Distinction Systems (FDS) / Distinction Theory. It studies Wigner’s Friend scenarios as finite record-boundary promotion problems. The central claim is that a friend-relative operational record cannot be promoted into Wigner’s accessible fact algebra unless a physical record channel supplies sufficient cross-boundary mutual information. Q1 does not solve the measurement problem, derive the Born rule, replace decoherence theory, modify unitary quantum mechanics, or claim that consciousness causes collapse. It is not a collapse theory. It is a finite-record boundary theory: observers are treated as finite distinction-registers, and measurements are treated as stable record formation under finite capacity. The central quantitative object is the boundary-mismatch entropy MF|W = H2(ZF | ZW), where ZF is the friend’s accessible record class and ZW is Wigner’s accessible record class. A friend-relative record is Wigner-promotable to tolerance ε only when H2(ZF | ZW) ≤ ε, equivalently, I2(ZF; ZW) ≥ H2(ZF) - ε. Q1 carefully separates Wigner’s ignorance from physical coherence. Wigner’s ideal global coherent assignment requires isolation and reversible-control assumptions. Wigner’s operational state is instead obtained by tracing out inaccessible degrees of freedom. The friend’s internal record is represented as a stable record class relative to the friend’s accessible algebra, not as a claim of fundamental collapse. The paper introduces a concrete finite-record interface. An observer implements an operational measurement family MO = {EOz}, which outputs a finite classical record ZO. A POVM outcome counts as an FDS record only when it is stabilized in the observer’s register over a retention window [t, t + τ] with error probability at most δ. Thus Q1 treats record extraction as classical-register stabilization under finite accessibility, not as a fundamental projection or collapse trigger. Information-theoretic quantities are measured in bits: H2, I2, and C. When a physical entropy is associated with a record distribution, the conversion is S = kB ln 2 · H2. Q1 uses this convention because FDS tracks finite distinguishability in binary record units. Von Neumann entropy is used when the relevant object is a quantum reduced state rather than a classical record variable. The paper formulates several core results: a boundary-promotion criterion, a Wigner-friend boundary-separation proposition, a finite-access lower bound on friend-record reconstruction using data processing and Fano-style inequalities, and an objective-convergence condition through environmental redundancy. In the binary case, the reconstruction error satisfies a lower-bound relation involving the inverse of the binary entropy function on the monotone branch 0 ≤ Pe ≤ 1/2. Q1 also defines an objective availability threshold using environmental fragments. For fragments E1, ..., EN, the minimal fragment number is mε = min { m : I2(ZF; E1:m) ≥ H2(ZF) - ε }. A record becomes objectively available to a class of finite observers only when redundancy, observer capacity, and record stability are all sufficient. This connects Q1 to decoherence and quantum Darwinism while preserving the distinction between decoherence, internal record formation, and external record availability. The paper’s response to Frauchiger-Renner-style arguments is not a refutation of the theorem. Instead, Q1 provides a boundary-audit rule: a statement recorded in the friend’s accessible algebra cannot be inserted into Wigner’s accessible algebra unless boundary promotion succeeds. In slogan form: AF-fact does not imply AW-fact unless the physical promotion channel supplies sufficient mutual information. Q1 introduces a promotion strength ηF→W = I2(ZF; ZW) / H2(ZF), which organizes boundary-alignment regimes: no promotion, partial leakage, Wigner-promotable record, and full boundary alignment. Partial leakage licenses inference, not promotion. For quantum technology, Q1 distinguishes coherence preservation from record availability. It introduces the diagnostic record availability horizon τRAH = inf { t : I2(Zinternal; Zexternal(t)) ≥ H2(Zinternal) - ε }. This is a diagnostic time for external record availability, not a new fundamental timescale. It is intended to complement device metrics such as T1, T2, gate fidelity, readout fidelity, internal record stability, cross-boundary mutual information, record-erasure history, and reset or garbage-collection cost. The release includes deterministic normal-form demonstrations. They illustrate the record-boundary causal map, boundary-promotion condition, decoherence versus record availability, a three-bit toy model, the promotion lattice, and the relation map connecting FDS Core, T1, O1, Q1, P3/P4/P7, and Q2. These figures are conceptual normal forms, not quantum dynamical simulations and not empirical fits. This release includes the paper PDF, LaTeX source, reproducibility code, generated figures, CSV outputs, and model summary outputs.
Abstract Quantum measurement paradoxes persist not from mathematical deficiency, but from conceptual instability regarding the status of facts. Wigner-type scenarios and modern extensions (including Frauchiger–Renner and Brukner-style no-go arguments) sharpen the tension between universal quantum description and single outcomes. This paper reframes the problem using an operational criterion that predates modern physics: The Eleatic Principle — to be is to possess power, the capacity to affect or be affected. We argue that measurement paradoxes arise from a tacit misclassification: treating power as a single mode. Distinguishing evental power (exchange that produces discrete actualisations and records) from structural power (constraint that delimits admissibility) dissolves the contradiction without invoking consciousness-induced collapse, many-worlds branching, or altering the quantum formalism. Outcomes are boundary-relative facts: objective evental records defined by effectively irreversible registration at a boundary under constraint, not globally composable facts by default. The proposal is explicitly falsifiable: if outcomes are empirically shown to function as boundary-independent facts without any admissibility structure, or if constraint reduces exhaustively to exchange, the distinction defended here fails.
