Abstract

This research pack presents a full structural unification of General Systems Theory (GST) and the Quantum Measurement Problem (QMP) using the Carlo Framework, a domain‑independent mechanism for contradiction resolution, collapse, classicalisation, and trajectory update. Across multiple documents, the work demonstrates that: System boundaries (GST) and observer boundaries (QMP) are structurally identical. Open system dynamics and measurement contexts perform the same contextual‑selection function. Recursive stability and classical outcomes describe the same transition from indeterminate to determinate states. System reorganisation and quantum collapse are the same contradiction‑resolution mechanism expressed in different domains. The pack includes: 1. The Unified GST–QMP Paper A full theoretical unification showing that collapse, classical emergence, decoherence, reorganisation, and stability are all instances of the same structural process. 2. The Carlo Engine (12‑Arc Geometric System) A complete geometric operator system (192 blocks) defining dynamical, interaction, field, energetic, transform, adaptive, evolutionary, totality, and completion geometries, culminating in the terminal operator Ω_final. 3. The Equation Sheet Formal mathematical definitions for collapse, post‑collapse, and reconstruction, including stability, coherence, determinacy, identity, behavioural, and functional equations. 4. The Visual Map A full structural map of all operator families, manifolds, curvatures, metrics, invariants, and completion states. 5. The Glossary, Operator Dictionary, and Manifold Atlas A complete reference set defining every operator, manifold, curvature, metric, invariant, and structural component used across the framework. 6. The Companion Document (Post‑Collapse Arc) A full description of stability, coherence, determinacy, identity persistence, behavioural continuity, and functional continuity after collapse completion. 7. The Reconstruction Arc A complete mechanism for building new structure, identity, behaviour, roles, and functions on top of the completed configuration without re‑entering contradiction. 8. The Author’s Note A personal statement contextualising the creation of the Carlo Framework. Together, these documents provide a complete, domain‑independent collapse architecture capable of explaining: classical emergence decoherence pathways system reorganisation stability formation identity installation context‑determined behaviour post‑collapse persistence reconstruction and structural extension This pack is intended for researchers in systems theory, quantum foundations, cognitive science, formal logic, and complex adaptive systems seeking a unified mechanism for transitions from unstable or indeterminate states to stable or determinate ones. Completing the Quantum Measurement Problem Through the Carlo Framework: A Mechanism for Collapse, Definiteness, and Classical Emergence

Matthew Arthur Carlo

This work completes the quantum measurement problem by supplying the mechanism standard quantum mechanics lacks. The theory contains two incompatible evolution rules: continuous unitary evolution and discontinuous measurement collapse. Quantum mechanics does not explain how collapse is triggered, why a single outcome is selected, or how classical definiteness emerges. Using the Carlo Framework, this paper introduces the contradiction engine, the trajectory update rule, and the Reset Operator > as the missing structural components that mechanise collapse. The completed model treats measurement as a contradiction loop between superposed and classical states. When this loop exceeds tolerance, the Carlo reset mechanism produces a definite classical outcome. This paper formalises the measurement contradiction, defines the collapse threshold, and provides a unified mechanism linking quantum evolution to classical results. Completing Quantum Decoherence and Classical Emergence Through the Carlo Framework: A Mechanism for Contextual Collapse

Matthew Arthur Carlo

DESCRIPTION:This work completes quantum decoherence theory by supplying the mechanism it lacks. Decoherence explains how interference is suppressed through environmental entanglement, but it does not explain why a single classical outcome is observed. The theory removes interference but does not provide a collapse mechanism or a pathway to classical definiteness. Using the Carlo Framework, this paper introduces the contradiction engine, the trajectory update rule, and the Reset Operator > as the missing structural components that mechanise classical outcome selection. The completed model treats decoherence as a contradiction loop between branching quantum structures and classical definiteness. When this loop exceeds tolerance, the Carlo reset mechanism selects a single classical branch. This paper formalises the decoherence contradiction, defines the collapse threshold, and provides a unified mechanism linking quantum branching to classical outcomes. Completing Wave–Particle Duality Through the Carlo Framework: A Mechanism for Contradiction‑Driven Collapse Between Wave Evolution and Particle Detection

Matthew Arthur Carlo

DESCRIPTION:This work completes wave–particle duality by supplying the mechanism standard quantum mechanics lacks. Quantum systems propagate as waves but are detected as particles, and the theory does not explain how or why this behavioural switch occurs. Using the Carlo Framework, this paper introduces the contradiction engine, the trajectory update rule, and the Reset Operator > as the missing structural components that mechanise the transition from wave evolution to particle detection. The completed model treats duality as a contradiction loop between wave-like propagation and particle-like measurement constraints. When this loop exceeds tolerance, the Carlo reset mechanism produces a discrete particle outcome. This paper formalises the duality contradiction, defines the collapse threshold, and provides a unified mechanism linking wave behaviour to particle detection. Completing Quantum Nonlocality Through the Carlo Framework: A Mechanism for Instantaneous Global Consistency

Matthew Arthur Carlo

DESCRIPTION:This work completes quantum nonlocality by supplying the mechanism standard quantum mechanics lacks. Bell violations show that entangled systems exhibit instantaneous correlations that cannot be explained by local realism. Quantum theory predicts these correlations but does not explain how measurement on one subsystem reorganises the state of another or how global consistency is enforced. Using the Carlo Framework, this paper introduces the contradiction engine, the trajectory update rule, and the Reset Operator > as the missing structural components that mechanise nonlocal correlation. The completed model treats the conflict between local measurement and global entanglement as a contradiction loop. When this loop exceeds tolerance, the Carlo reset mechanism produces a correlated outcome pair that preserves global consistency. This paper formalises the nonlocality contradiction, defines the reset threshold, and provides a unified mechanism linking local measurement to instantaneous global update. A Complete Operator-Theoretic Resolution of the Quantum Measurement Problem

Rodgers, Jeremy

This preprint presents a complete and fully operator-theoretic resolution of the quantum measurement problem. Including collapse, the Born rule, the uniqueness of outcomes, and the irrelevance of observersm derived entirely from a universal structural principle called the lawhood identity. Rather than adding new physics, modifying the Schrödinger equation, introducing hidden variables, invoking many-worlds branching, or appealing to consciousness, this work shows that quantum measurement is a direct, unavoidable consequence of a general fixed-point law that applies to all stable physical systems. When instantiated for quantum mechanics, this law forces every genuine superposition to fail the criteria for being a physically lawful state. Collapse is not an extra postulate: it is structurally mandatory. Key results include: • The No-Superposition Theorem: All superpositions are proven to be structurally unlawful; they cannot survive the measurement map.• Mandatory Collapse: Collapse emerges automatically from the composition of three physical operators (boundary, decoherence, and closure), without modifying quantum dynamics.• Derivation of the Born Rule: The familiar probabilities arise uniquely from the internal consistency of the measurement operators. No additional assumptions, decision theory, or symmetry arguments are required.• Observer Independence: Awareness and measurement are formally separated. Collapse is a physical, observer-independent process; knowledge acquisition is epistemic, not causal.• Uniqueness of Outcomes: The framework proves that there is only one stable classical outcome for any initial quantum state, directly resolving the many-worlds branching issue.• Experimental Signatures: The formulation predicts measurable relationships involving entropy, decoherence rates, and effective dimensionality. This paper shows that the puzzles of quantum collapse, superposition, outcome selection, probability, and the apparent role of observers, are not mysteries requiring new interpretations. They are the natural consequences of a deeper structural principle that governs all lawful physical systems. Quantum mechanics, under this lens, becomes a specific case of a universal operator identity that determines which states can persist as stable reality. Readers will find a complete, logically self-contained argument, with theorems and proofs written in a way that does not rely on philosophical interpretation or speculative assumptions. The result is a clear and testable framework that resolves a problem that has persisted since the birth of quantum theory. This work is part of a broader research program developing the universal Tier-0 lawhood framework and the “Everything Equation,” which unifies stability, collapse, and fixed-point structure across physics, computation, thermodynamics, and information. Relation to Tier-1 dynamical formulation: This work develops a law-level (structural) resolution of quantum measurement. A complementary Tier-1 dynamical realization of these structural principles, formulated entirely within a constrained operator framework and independent of law-level recursion language, is developed in: J. Rodgers, Saturation Geometry and the Structural Emergence of Measurement and the Born Rule in a Capacity-Constrained Dirac–Λ System, Zenodo (2026).https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.18704783 The Tier-1 formulation may be read independently and provides a concrete operator-theoretic instantiation of the structural mechanisms discussed here.

Collapse as Curvature: A Unified Operator Approach to the Measurement Problem (Recursive Geometry Framework)

James R Schmidt

Project Description This project develops a unified operator framework to resolve the measurement paradox in quantum mechanics. Standard theory uses two incompatible operators: unitary evolution for open systems and discontinuous collapse for measurement. This dual-rule architecture creates paradoxes at the seam between regimes. We propose a single continuous operator that governs both open and closed dynamics. The seam is modeled as a curved transition manifold, with collapse emerging naturally as high curvature rather than a separate projection rule. This restores continuity, preserves invariants, and eliminates the need for observer-dependent discontinuities. A toy model is presented to demonstrate the framework. The unified evolution equation interpolates smoothly between Schrödinger-like dynamics and collapse-like stabilization. Collapse is expressed as gradient flow into outcome basins, driven by curvature in the potential landscape. The model shows how unitary evolution and collapse can be understood as two expressions of one operator, resolving the paradox cleanly. This project establishes the foundation for further refinement of the unified operator, including explicit curvature equations, dynamical openness parameters, and worked examples in two-level systems. The aim is to provide a structurally coherent alternative to the dual-operator formalism and open a path toward publishable results in quantum foundations. 1. Core Objects Invariant: I State / seam (articulation of the invariant): Sigma(t) in C^n Openness–closedness parameter: lambda in [0,1] lambda = 0 fully open (unitary-like) lambda = 1 fully closed (collapse-like) Hamiltonian (open dynamics skeleton): H Outcome projectors (closed attractors): {P_k}, with P_k^2 = P_k and sum_k P_k = Identity 2. Unified Evolution Equation Define the unified operator T by: dSigma/dt = T(Sigma, I, lambda) Toy model: dSigma/dt = (1 - lambda) * ( -i/hbar * H * Sigma ) - lambda * grad_Sigma V(Sigma; I) 3. Collapse Potential (Source of Curvature) Define the collapse potential: V(Sigma; I) = sum_k [ alpha_k(I) * || Sigma - P_k Sigma ||^2 ] Gradient: grad_Sigma V = 2 * sum_k [ alpha_k(I) * (Sigma - P_k Sigma) ] Full unified dynamics: dSigma/dt = (1 - lambda) * ( -i/hbar * H * Sigma ) - 2 * lambda * sum_k [ alpha_k(I) * (Sigma - P_k Sigma) ] 4. Behavior by Regime Open regime (lambda ~ 0): dSigma/dt ≈ -i/hbar * H * Sigma (unitary-like, smooth, reversible) Closed regime (lambda ~ 1): dSigma/dt ≈ -2 * sum_k [ alpha_k(I) * (Sigma - P_k Sigma) ] (gradient flow into one P_k Sigma, collapse-like) Seam (0 < lambda < 1): Smooth interpolation between the two behaviors. No operator switching. No discontinuity. 5. Interpretation - One operator T governs all regimes. - Collapse emerges as high curvature in the potential landscape. - Unitary evolution emerges as low curvature. - The seam is a continuous transition manifold. - No paradox, no dual-rule architecture, no discontinuity.
