The rendering framework employs a substrate parametrized operator, a positive metric, a conscious accessible pointer algebra, and a substrate order parameter, none of which was derived from substrate physics. This paper closes that burden in three moves. It formulates a substrate agnostic reduction route in which ordinary open system reduction supplies these structures: Feshbach reduction yields the non-Hermitian effective operator, Nakajima Zwanzig projection yields the GKSL channel, and quasi-Hermitian metric theory yields the pointer algebra. It converts that route into a falsifiable program organized around three verdicts gate, operator, and collapse and locates the novel physical content precisely in a trajectory level discriminator and the biological locality of the channel. It then executes the two cheapest decisive tests. The two qubit discriminator returns D=0.50 at J=1 under a strict two-knob decoherence matcher, vanishes at the null anchor when the bases align, and tracks the misalignment angle as predicted. The predictability sieve, run on ordinary physics with no consciousness channel present, derives the same pointer basis to within half a degree and moves only when the physical coupling structure moves. Together they establish that the basis is physically derived and that the derived basis carries trajectory content ordinary dephasing cannot absorb. The decisive open burden is met at toy scale. What remains is many body scaling of the sieve and the biological program. Energy compatibility is discharged to nineteen orders of margin. The theory has been required to compute numbers, state in advance what would prove it wrong, and survive its first tests. At this scale it has.

This preprint presents a formal research program at the intersection of quantum foundations, consciousness studies, information theory, thermodynamics, and philosophy of mind. Its central proposal is that consciousness may be modeled not as a passive byproduct of physical determinacy, but as a substrate dependent actualization condition under which quantum potential becomes determinate pointer record reality. The paper develops a formal framework built around a substrate dependent consciousness operator, recursive rendering dynamics, a two time architecture separating rendering order from measured physical time, and a modified Lindblad master equation containing a consciousness coupling channel. The framework also introduces a biologically constrained substrate fidelity parameter, a thermodynamic scaling bound based on Landauer cost, and an anesthesia threshold paradigm as a possible empirical entry point. The work does not claim completion of the mathematical formalism and does not present the theory as experimentally established. Instead, it defines a disciplined theoretical structure, identifies its mathematical obligations, and states the open problems that must be solved for the framework to mature into a viable physical theory. These include the eigenvalue structure of the substrate dependent operator, the formal relationship between the operator and the pointer record channel, the derivation of recursive scaling laws, and the need for empirical discrimination between substrate gated conscious actualization and ordinary neurophysical accounts of anesthesia. The purpose of this paper is to make the central claim precise enough to be challenged. If quantum mechanics supplies potentiality, environmental decoherence supplies stable pointer alternatives, and consciousness supplies actualization, then determinate physical reality may be understood as the rendered outcome of a substrate gated process. This preprint offers that claim as a formal research program for critical analysis, mathematical refinement, and future empirical testing.
Abstract The measurement problem remains one of the most unresolved foundational issues in quantum mechanics. Existing interpretations successfully preserve predictive formalism while diverging sharply on ontology, observer status, and collapse mechanics. This paper proposes a formal framework in which consciousness functions not as an emergent byproduct of material systems but as the rendering condition under which physical determinacy becomes possible. Consciousness is modeled as a substrate-dependent operator Ĉ acting upon quantum potential Ψ and substrate state tensor S to produce rendered physical reality ℛ through recursive temporal processing. This work introduces a two time architecture separating rendering meta time τᵣ from measured physical time τₘ. Within this structure the second law of thermodynamics emerges not as a primitive physical postulate but as a necessary condition for stable recursive rendering. A modified Lindblad master equation incorporating a consciousness coupling channel γ_c(S) is proposed together with a biologically constrained substrate fidelity parameter B grounded in quantum coherence preservation. The proposed advances several experimentally accessible predictions including a decoherence resilience prediction distinguishing conscious observation from equivalent non conscious measurement apparatuses under controlled conditions and an anesthesia transition paradigm for threshold crossing analysis. Open mathematical problems are identified explicitly including the eigenvalue structure of Ĉ, bootstrap conditions for initial rendering, and formal derivation of recursive scaling laws. The paper does not claim completion of the mathematical formalism. It proposes instead a structured theoretical research program situated at the intersection of quantum foundations, information theory, thermodynamics, philosophy of mind, and quantum biology.
Classical physical ontology assumes a pre-existing, fully rendered world populated by discrete objects whose properties are fixed independently of observation. Yet, contemporary theories of consciousness, quantum physics, and predictive processing increasingly challenge this assumption, suggesting that perception is an active, constructive, and selective process. This article develops a post-Bohmian rendering ontology, proposing that reality is not a statically instantiated environment but a dynamically updated informational field that becomes determined through acts of attention and measurement. Building on David Bohm’s implicate order (while diverging from its assumption of a continuously enfolded substrate), this framework conceptualizes consciousness as a rendering engine that collapses latent informational potentials into coherent phenomenological form. Three lines of evidence motivate this model: (1) quantum indeterminacy and the observer-dependent collapse of physical states (2) the neurocomputational architecture of predictive coding, in which perception emerges from inferential updates rather than passive registration; and (3) biological diversity in sensory “Umwelten,” which demonstrates that organisms access only narrow, functionally constrained segments of environmental information. The proposed ontology unifies these strands by interpreting consciousness as a localized interface within a distributed informational field, wherein the brain operates as a translator of non-local patterns into stable perceptual constructs. Crucially, the collapse function is operationalized by aligning it with observable mechanisms of global neuronal ignition (GWT) and quantifiable by the Integrated Information Theory (Φ). The framework accounts for altered states of consciousness, decoherence-like failures in psychopathology, and the modular distribution of perceptual rendering across life. It further clarifies the relationship between first-person phenomenology and third-person physical descriptions. By articulating a mechanism that links informational potential, conscious access, and phenomenological instantiation, this post-Bohmian model offers a coherent alternative to substance-based metaphysics and contributes a unified conceptual structure for consciousness studies.
The combination problem remains the central obstacle in consciousness studies: how do micro-level physical processes combine to produce unified phenomenal experience? Integrated Information Theory (IIT) addresses integration but remains substrate-independent, unable to explain why biological brains differ from functionally equivalent simulations. Penrose's gravitational collapse model provides a physical mechanism but lacks a clear selection principle distinguishing conscious from non-conscious architectures. We propose Chaotic Gravitational Criticality (CGC), a framework that synthesises these approaches. We posit that the brain's architecture creates informational degeneracy—states where non-gravitational selection pressures are neutralised—rendering the system sensitive to gravitational effects despite their minuscule magnitude. Within this degenerate subspace, the brain's mass distribution generates chaotic gravitational dynamics. Unlike a simple selection event, we propose the phenomenal richness of experience corresponds to the geometric complexity of the resulting collapse trajectory through state space. CGC makes three specific, falsifiable predictions: (1) gravity directly influences quantum state reduction, testable via proposed double-slit experiments across gravitational conditions (1g, 0.16g, ~0g); (2) faster cognitive processes correlate with more widespread neural synchrony, inversely relating cognitive speed to superposition scale; (3) consciousness requires dynamic substrate-dependence—physical architectures where informational states couple to gravitational microstates. Quantitative analysis aligns with established cognitive timescales, predicting that conscious moments of ~100ms require coherent superpositions of approximately 62,000 tubulin proteins. CGC addresses the magnitude, richness, and boundary problems within a unified framework, while honestly acknowledging that large-scale biological quantum coherence remains the crucial open empirical question upon which the theory rests. I propose a unified theoretical framework in which shared classical reality emerges as the real-time collective rendering of Planck-scale quantum foam by the summed objective reductions across billions of human and other conscious microtubule networks. Building on Penrose's gravitational OR and the Orch-OR model of Hameroff & Penrose, I extend the local collapse time ≈ / E_Għ to a global E_{G,total} = Σ_i κ_i · E_{G,i} across entangled brains, where κ_i represents the degree of orchestrated coherence in each system. This collective process selects one consistent branch from Tegmark's mathematical universe, projecting stable 3+1D spacetime from Wheeler's quantum foam via pre-geometric co-location in a causal set structure. I further propose that consciousness is not a prerequisite for OR rendering but its evolutionary optimization — biological systems selected for rendering fidelity over hundreds of millions of years, with consciousness as the experiential correlate of high-coherence OR. Qualia are identified with the sequential interface between individual and collective computation, formalized as Q_i(t) = ⟨R_i(t) | Ψ_{pre-math}⟩ — the projection of unified individual OR output onto the pre-geometric eigenstate basis. The framework ties directly to existing quantum-biology data and Diósi–Penrose collapse experiments, generates specific collective-scale predictions accessible to current instrumentation without new experimental infrastructure, and engages directly with Aspelmeyer (2026) as a sharpened experimental lever rather than a falsifying result.
