Abstract

This paper is the first technical installment of the broader framework Consciousness as an Actualization Operator in a Substrate Dependent Universe, and its specific purpose is to state the actualization condition as a constrained GKSL class physics model with explicit gate structure, empirical handles, and failure criteria

Consciousness as an Actualization Operator in a Substrate Dependent Universe

Milo Djonovic Jarrod Milo Jonovich

This preprint presents a formal research program at the intersection of quantum foundations, consciousness studies, information theory, thermodynamics, and philosophy of mind. Its central proposal is that consciousness may be modeled not as a passive byproduct of physical determinacy, but as a substrate dependent actualization condition under which quantum potential becomes determinate pointer record reality. The paper develops a formal framework built around a substrate dependent consciousness operator, recursive rendering dynamics, a two time architecture separating rendering order from measured physical time, and a modified Lindblad master equation containing a consciousness coupling channel. The framework also introduces a biologically constrained substrate fidelity parameter, a thermodynamic scaling bound based on Landauer cost, and an anesthesia threshold paradigm as a possible empirical entry point. The work does not claim completion of the mathematical formalism and does not present the theory as experimentally established. Instead, it defines a disciplined theoretical structure, identifies its mathematical obligations, and states the open problems that must be solved for the framework to mature into a viable physical theory. These include the eigenvalue structure of the substrate dependent operator, the formal relationship between the operator and the pointer record channel, the derivation of recursive scaling laws, and the need for empirical discrimination between substrate gated conscious actualization and ordinary neurophysical accounts of anesthesia. The purpose of this paper is to make the central claim precise enough to be challenged. If quantum mechanics supplies potentiality, environmental decoherence supplies stable pointer alternatives, and consciousness supplies actualization, then determinate physical reality may be understood as the rendered outcome of a substrate gated process. This preprint offers that claim as a formal research program for critical analysis, mathematical refinement, and future empirical testing.

Prime-Selective Actualization: Axiom VII of the Universal Model Framework.

Gericke, Marco

We introduce Axiom VII (Prime-Selective Actualization, PSA) as a foundational extension of the Universal Model Framework (UMF). While earlier UMF axioms, in particular the invariant information-rate principle (Axiom VI, PIR-I), constrain the kinematically admissible configuration space of physical systems, PSA addresses the unresolved question of actualization: why only a restricted subset of admissible configurations manifests as persistent physical reality. PSA postulates that physical configurations are those information patterns that remain stable under prime-indexed recursive validation, implemented via renormalization-group–like operators acting across prime scales. Configurations that fail this stability criterion remain mathematically admissible but physically unrealized. This principle provides a unified explanatory mechanism for (i) natural quantization, (ii) effective measurement selection without invoking fundamental collapse postulates, and (iii) emergent irreversibility via directional accumulation of validation. The axiom is formulated in a mathematically explicit and falsifiable manner, with direct empirical constraints derived from anomalous scaling exponents. In particular, PSA predicts universal holographic scaling with anomalous dimension η≈2\eta \approx 2η≈2; systematic deviation from this value would falsify the axiom. The framework is deliberately substrate-independent and does not posit consciousness or observers at the axiomatic level, although higher-order self-validation processes may admit cognitive or agent-like interpretations in specific realizations. Axiom VII completes the logical structure of UMF by separating what is allowed (PIR-I) from what becomes physically real, offering a testable selection principle at the foundations of physics. This project was developed by Marco Gericke, with structured assistance from a large language model. All scientific concepts and conclusions were generated, verified, and interpreted by the author. Dedicated to Peter Plichta, who envisioned the code before it could be computed.
