From a single axiom — that outcomes form one non-separable whole — two consequences fix the quantum state space: a possibility can differ from another in exactly two ways, by magnitude (how much) and by phase (from where). A quantity carrying both is a complex number. On this space, non-separability forces completion by the conjugate, the squared-magnitude weight, linearity, normalization, and the interference cross-term, yielding the Born rule p_i = |ψ_i|² with Σp_i = 1 and interference. The algebraic steps are machine-verified (script included); the structural steps are stated as named claims with every open seam labeled honestly. Hermiticity of observables (A = A†) is argued and machine-verified for the real-weighted case rather than assumed. The derivation presupposes no Hilbert space, inner product, probability measure, or operational structure, and reaches the same targets that existing reconstructions obtain from five or six axioms. Submitted for refutation. The theorem of Section 7B is unchanged, and its proof does not depend on check A10 — it runs on Lemmas 2 and 4 and A1. Check A10 in verify_all.py was defective. It tested whether the product ψ·X is real, rather than whether X completes ψ. Consequently it accepted the sign flip, a partner that A1 explicitly excludes as degree-negating. The check could not fail. A10 is replaced with an exact test of A1’s criterion — that a completer removes vantage while preserving degree — which has the unique solution X = conj(ψ), and which rejects both the sign flip and any neighbouring pole. Two sentences describing A10 (Sections 6 and 7B) stated that a pole multiplied by a neighbour “still carries vantage.” This is false: the product m²e^(−iδ) is vantage-free but does not complete. Both sentences are corrected. This version also revises Lemma 3 to the operator-level criterion, removes the section on Hardy’s Simplicity axiom as superseded by Masanes–Müller (2011), addresses the direct-sum counterexample to Seam 7, and adds eleven references.

The Projective Dynamic Logo (PDL) framework derives quantum dynamics from combinatorial axioms on finite signed graphs. This paper addresses the measurement problem at Level 1: it proves that the Born rule P₊ = |⟨+θ|ψ⟩|² emerges from the (A)∧(B) stability criterion without presupposing probability or the Hilbert space inner product. The derivation proceeds in three steps. First, the coherence indicator χ(τ; σ) ∈ {+1, −1} is defined as a purely combinatorial quantity over triangle orientations, with no probabilistic content. Second, the coherence cost εcoh(σ₊; θ, ψ) = |⟨−θ|ψ⟩|² is established from the (A)∧(B) apparatus symmetry conditions, with numerical residual 5.55×10⁻¹⁶ over 20,000 state-angle pairs. Third, P₊ = 1 − εcoh = |⟨+θ|ψ⟩|² follows by normalisation, algebraically. All five Gleason axioms are verified for this assignment with residuals ≤ 1.1×10⁻¹⁵, and the Gleason uniqueness theorem — stated in full as a self-contained result — guarantees that this is the unique admissible probability assignment on the Hilbert space of spin-½ states. A structural diagnostic is provided: uniform triangle weights α_τ = 1/N_T yield the Heaviside function Θ(cosθ), with maximum discrepancy 1.00 (exact), confirming that the Born cos²(θ/2) distribution is not trivial and requires the specific geometric weight structure of K₄⊗G_app. This result closes OP5 of D32 at Level 1. Level 2 — the derivation of triangle weights α_τ from PDL axioms without presupposing the spin Hilbert space inner product — remains open.
Abstract All known derivations of the Born rule — Gleason's theorem, envariance, decision-theoretic and information-reconstruction approaches (including Masanes–Galley–Müller) — establish the internal uniqueness of the quadratic probability measure given the Hilbert-space and unitary structure of quantum theory. What remains open is the ontological ground of quadraticity prior to that structure. We present a derivation route from the C(r) correlation-field framework, whose primitives are a correlation operator C = 𝒟⁻¹ (Postulate I) and its geometric self-consistency (Postulate II + Theorem 0), with no state-vector, inner-product, or unitarity axioms. Within this framework, a readout ("severance") event requires two insertions of the correlation propagator, so record weights are bilinear in amplitudes. Three independent machine-adjudicated screens — (i) invariance of total weight under readout-basis reparametrization, (ii) multiplicativity under serial composition, (iii) vanishing of Sorkin third-order interference — uniquely select p = |ψ|² from the candidate family p = |ψ|ⁿ, with gate margins of at least nine orders of magnitude. The result is graded ■_struct (machine-certified within the lattice-family toolchain with certified continuum limit). The framework makes a falsifiable signature: third-order interference is identically zero; any measured I₃ ≠ 0 refutes the framework at this level. All gates, criteria, and failure trees were pre-registered before computation; one referee-layer veto (#35) was recorded and repaired without altering the registered criteria. Quantum mechanics says that when you measure a system, the probability of an outcome is the squared modulus of that outcome's amplitude — not absolute value, not cubed, not some other power. The exponent has been two since Born wrote it down in 1926, and for a century it has been a postulate. Copenhagen accepts it as a brute fact; Many-Worlds tries to derive it from decision theory; QBism reframes it as Bayesian credence; Zurek derives it from environmental symmetries; Hardy derives it from operational axioms. Each program leaves at least part of the question unanswered: why squared, and not some other exponent? Gleason's 1957 theorem went part of the way: given a few structural conditions on quantum probability assignments, the squared form is mathematically forced. But Gleason leans on one substantive assumption — non-contextuality — that standard QM postulates rather than derives. This walkthrough shows how the Event Density framework derives the Born rule, including the squared exponent *and* the non-contextuality assumption underneath it, from a smaller set of structural commitments about what reality is made of at the substrate level. The chain has three load-bearing steps: (i) the participation measure is forced to the form √b · e^{iπ} via the Cauchy functional equation on bandwidth additivity plus Frobenius's theorem on real division algebras; (ii) the sesquilinear inner product on the participation-measure space is forced, delivering the Hilbert-space structure Gleason operates on; (iii) non-contextuality is forced by the channel-as-primitive ontology. With non-contextuality derived rather than postulated, Gleason–Busch applies directly. The squared exponent is a consequence of the framework, not a separate postulate.
The imaginary unit i = √(−1) enters quantum mechanics as a foundational assumption: wavefunctions are complex, evolution is unitary over ℂ, and the Born rule uses the circular norm |ψ|². We show that i is not a foundation but a consequence — specifically, the eigenvalue direction of the adjoint golden gamma matrix Γ_adj relative to the seed Γ_seed, constructed in companion Paper 191. A single sign flip in a 2×2 matrix over ℤ[φ] rotates the eigenvalue spectrum from the real axis to the imaginary axis. Traversing the golden split φ ↔ ψ in one direction produces real eigenvalues ±5^(1/4); in the reverse direction, imaginary eigenvalues ±i·5^(1/4). From this identification, the Born rule is reconstructed over ℝ(√5) without assuming ℂ. Complex conjugation is the chirality flip Γ_seed ↔ Γ_adj — a geometric operation derived from the algebra, not an algebraic assumption. Positivity of the Born rule is not an additional axiom and is not, as earlier drafts claimed, an immediate consequence of the chirality flip: it is restriction to the forward cone of the indefinite Galois norm N(a) = p² − 5q² on ℝ(√5), an object with signature (+,−) whose hyperbolic-plane structure the standard positive-definite Hilbert space cannot host. The normalization condition ⟨ψ_seed|ψ_adj⟩ = √5 is derived from the chiral coupling Γ_seed·Γ_adj = √5·σ₃ (machine-verified). The measurement problem dissolves: measurement is the round trip through the golden conjugation, reading a topological invariant without disturbing a topological state. No collapse is required. Standard QM is recovered as the special case in which the adjoint amplitude equals the complex conjugate of the seed amplitude. A new §11 resolves the (2,2)→(1,3) selection: the excluded timelike direction is the right-handed neutrino, and parity violation is the crystallisation closure choice at t=0. Whether the indefinite norm N connects causally to the indefinite form appearing in the Dedekind factorisation of ζ_{ℚ(√5)} is explicitly left open; an earlier attempt to identify Riemann zeros with the null locus of N failed numerical adversarial review and the correct coordinate map, if any, is deferred to future work.
Unity Survives Distinction develops a structural interpretation of the Born rule as the quadratic law by which the unity of a quantum state is preserved across operational distinction. For a normalized state |ψ⟩ and a complete projective measurement {Π_j}, Hilbert-space Pythagoras gives: 1 = ||ψ||² = Σ_j ||Π_jψ||² = Σ_j ⟨ψ|Π_j|ψ⟩ The Born weights are therefore not merely numerical assignments attached to outcomes. They are the non-negative quadratic quantities through which the norm of one complex state is distributed across an exhaustive family of orthogonal alternatives without loss of totality. The paper extends this structure to compatible nested refinements and generalized measurements. Under refinement, probability closure is preserved through the zero-residual identity: P_α = Σ_k P_αk For a generalized measurement effect E, the same internal quadratic structure is expressed as: P(E) = ⟨ψ|E|ψ⟩ = ||E^(1/2)ψ||² The paper distinguishes this quantum claim from ordinary classical additivity. Additivity alone is measure-theoretic and is not uniquely quantum. The specifically quantum architecture lies in the conjunction of complex amplitudes, conjugate quadratic form, global-phase invariance, interference-sensitive recombination, operator-defined measurement contexts, and exact preservation of the total norm. Gleason’s theorem and related results for effects and positive operator-valued measures are used to explain why, under standard noncontextual additivity assumptions, the trace form of quantum probability is essentially forced rather than arbitrarily selected. Within the ENSO framework, this structure is formulated as Born intrinsic closure: fixed unity, zero refinement residual, and an internal quadratic witness. The paper does not claim a new formula for the Born rule, a new proof of Gleason’s theorem, or a derivation of Hilbert space from pre-quantum principles. It develops the structural and interpretive significance of established quantum mathematics. Its central conclusion is: The Born rule is the quadratic law by which unity survives distinction.
Hoffman’s conscious-agent formalism defines agents by Markov kernels on finite sets, anda programme has sought to obtain quantum mechanics—complex amplitudes, Hilbert space, unitary evolution and the Born rule—as outputs of that stochastic substrate. Papers I–III ofthis series closed the passive-readout, witness-inequality and Born-rule-inversion routes. Herewe examine the Eulerian control principles on the continuous-time nearest-neighbour jumprelative of the programme’s N -cycle substrate, with the phase S posited as an agent-carriedvariable and the rates depending on the population density, and ask which of them are exactlythe lattice Schrödinger pair at finite lattice spacing a. (i) No member with a kinetic termquadratic in the rates is exact, for any N , wherever its stationary drift exists (a degree count);by Legendre duality, (ii) no globally optimising member, with any cost, over an S-independentadmissible rate set, is exact on the whole configuration space, because the reduced Hamiltonianof a minimiser (maximiser) is convex (concave) in the phases while the lattice Schrödingerenergy is neither; (iii) an optimising member with bothprates free nevertheless exists—the2 —whose minimiser isconvex bond cost cQ (J) = ℏJ arcsin(J/Jmax ) + ℏJmax 1 − J 2 /Jmaxexactly the lattice Schrödinger pair, density dependence included, on the open winding-zerosector where every real bond phase satisfies |∆x | < πℏ/2, and which fails on the outer half ofthe zone, nodes included, and on every configuration with nonzero winding; with an activitycost selecting the symmetric part of the rates, that optimiser is the Bell–Vink process; (iv)exact stationary-point members exist beyond that sector, Bell–Vink among them, determinedup to the split of each bond energy and a uniform circulating current, with the branchselection as the rate law. The cost cQ is the entropic (Schrödinger-bridge) bond cost with thenoise scale continued to imaginary values, cE |Jmax →iJmax = −i cQ on principal branches, aformal correspondence. As a diagnostic, the fixed-noise Nelson–Yasue member with κ = +1carries the Euclidean sign of the quantum potential, κQ = −κ; the κ = −1 (Guerra–Morato)member is exact in the continuum and, where its stationary drift exists, departs from thelattice target at O(a2 ). Nelson’s law of motion, imposed on the fixed-total-rate kinematicswithin the rate bound |bx | ≤ 2νa for odd N , has the real-time sign, is exact for plane wavesand pure-potential configurations, and departs at O(a2 ) generically, with an exact vanishingfamily and in-regime counterexamples at N = 5, 7. A programme-status section recordsthat the substrate, read as a one-time operational probabilistic theory, lies in the classicalbranch of the Hardy and Chiribella–D’Ariano–Perinotti reconstructions, and corrects onestatement of Paper III (Barandes’ precondition is met by every finite-alphabet process; thesentence was true but empty). These are bounded no-go theorems for the reading constructedhere; no claim is made about quantum mechanics emerging from stochastic dynamics ingeneral. All machine results are exact-arithmetic and rerun bit-identically. The Round-1lattice results and the reconstruction-axiom checks were preregistered with blind priors; thetheorems added in revision were prompted by review and are machine-checked by successorverifiers, not preregistered.
