Interaction of a cavity mode with coherent light in a closed cavity coupled to thermal reservoir

Abstract

In this thesis, we investigate the quantum optical properties of a single cavity mode interacting with an external classical coherent driving field inside a closed cavity, which is coupled to a thermal reservoir via a single-port mirror. We establish a mathematically comprehensive framework utilizing both the Master Equation under the density operator formalism and the Quantum Langevin Equation under the Heisenberg picture. By analyzing the system with an arbitrary ordering of reservoir noise operators, we derive the steady-state P-representation of the quasi-probability distribution. Employing this quasi-probability distribution, we analytically compute the mean photon number, photon number variance, photon number distribution, and the second-order intensity correlation function. Our findings establish that the interaction of the cavity mode with the coherent drive in the presence of thermal fluctuations exhibits strictly super-Poissonian statistics. The mean photon number and photon number variance scale monotonically with both the strength of the external coherent drive and the average thermal photon occupation of the reservoir. Furthermore, we prove that the produced cavity field does not exhibit quadrature squeezing, confirming that the presence of thermal noise effectively destroys quantum squeezing in this configuration. Finally, the input-output is evaluated to verify the preservation of the commutation relations of the formalism output field. Keywords: Quantum Optics, Master Equation, Fokker-Planck, Quantum Langevin Equation, P- function, Photon Statistics, Super-Poissonian, Squeezing.

Two-mode subharmonic generating system with coherent and thermal light

Lemma Tirfie Zegbreal, Deribe Hirpo

Abstract The statistical and squeezing characteristics of the light generated by a two-mode subharmonic generating system in a cavity pumped by two-mode coherent light and coupled to a two-mode thermal reservoir through a singleport mirror have been studied in this study. We construct the c-number Langevin equations linked to the normal ordering using the master equation for the system under discussion, and we establish the correlation characteristics of the noise forces. The mean and variance of the photon number of the cavity light are then determined using the solutions of the resulting differential equations. We have discovered that the cavity light mode’s photon statistics are super-Poissonian because the variance of the photon number is more significant than the mean of the photon number. Additionally, using the same solutions, we were able to extract the antinormally ordered characteristic function, which is used to calculate the Q function. In addition, the photon number distribution for the cavity mode is computed using the Q function. The variance of the plus and minus quadrature of the two-mode cavity light generated by the two-mode subharmonic generating system is also obtained. It is discovered that the cavity mode’s squeezing characteristics are unaffected by the two-mode driving coherent light, however, the thermal light has the effect of decreasing the squeezing of the cavity light and the squeezing takes place in the plus quadrature. Finally, we discovered that when the cavity is coupled to a vacuum reservoir, there is a 50 % maximum squeezing of the two-mode cavity at a steady state and at the threshold. The nondegenerate subharmonic generator generates a two-mode cavity light that is 50 % entangled.

Superposed Degenerate Parametric Oscillator with Coherent Light

Yimenu Yeshiwas

In this paper, we have studied the statistical and squeezing properties of the light produced by superposed light beams generating by a pair of degenerate parametric oscillator whose cavity mode is driven by a coherent light and is coupled to a vacuum reservoir via a single port mirror. We obtain c-number Langevin equation associated with the normal ordering using the pertinent master equation. Employing the solution of the c-number Langevin equation and the density operator, we have determined the mean and the variance photon number, quadrature variances and squeezing spectrum of the superposed light beams.

Quantum properties of nondegenerate three-level laser coupled vacuum reservoir

Menisha Alemu

In this paper, we have studied the squeezing and statistical properties of the light produced by a three-level laser whose cavity contains a parametric amplifier, and with the cavity mode driven by coherent light and coupled to a vacuum reservoir. We obtain stochastic differential equations associated with the normal ordering using the pertinent master equation. By making use of the solutions to the resulting differential equations, we calculate the quadrature variances. We also determine the mean and variance of the photon number for the cavity mode by employing the Q function. It is found that the parametric amplifier increases the degree of squeezing, while the driving coherent light does not have any effect on the squeezing. Moreover, the mean photon number increases considerably due to the driving coherent light and the parametric amplifier.

Coherently Driven N Number of Degenerate Three-Level Atoms with Parametric Amplifier

Tamirat Abebe, Chimdessa Gashu Feyisa, Nebiyu Gemechu

We have analyzed the squeezing and statistical properties of the cavity light beam produced by a coherently driven degenerate three-level laser with a degenerate parametric amplifier (DPA) in an open cavity and coupled to a vacuum reservoir via a single-port mirror. We have carried out our analysis by putting the noise operators associated with the vacuum reservoir in normal order. Applying the solutions of the equations of evolution for the expectation values of the atomic operators and the quantum Langevin equation for the cavity mode operator, the mean photon number and the quadrature squeezing of the cavity light are calculated. And a large part of the mean photon number is confined in a relatively small frequency interval. Furthermore, we also obtain the antinormally ordered characteristic function defined in the Heisenberg picture. With the aid of the resulting characteristic function, we determine the Q function which is then used to calculate the photon number distribution.

Photon count and fluctuations of squeezed light with a ∨-type three-level atom

Misrak Getahun, Gomera Biyazn

We theoretically investigate the quantum statistical properties of a two-mode cavity light generated by a ∨ -type three-level atom interacting with nondegenerate subharmonic light and coupled to a two-mode squeezed vacuum reservoir. Using the master equation, we obtain steady-state expectation values for the atomic and cavity-mode operators. Based on these results, we analyze the global and local photon number variances, intensity fluctuation spectrum, joint photon number distribution, and photon count statistics. Our results reveal that squeezing parameter and subharmonic generation significantly enhance intensity fluctuations, as well as the mean and variance of photon counts, whereas atom-field coupling and cavity decay suppress them. The system exhibits super-Poissonian photon statistics, indicating that photon number fluctuations exceed the mean photon number. Furthermore, the photon count variance, which incorporates intracavity transmission and input noise, increases with detector efficiency. These results provide a comprehensive picture of photon statistics in atom-photon systems and guide the design of advanced quantum optical devices.
