Characterization of three-qubit controlled unitary gates of Schmidt rank three

Abstract

Abstract We characterize three-qubit controlled unitary gates of Schmidt rank three, establishing necessary and sufficient conditions for such gates to have Schmidt rank three. We construct explicit examples and analyze their entanglement capabilities, showing that gates with Schmidt rank three can generate output states ranging from fully separable to maximal GHZ-class states. Within this classification, we present a parameterized gate family that produces an output W-class state whose bipartite tangles for subsystems A B and A C are modulated as simple trigonometric functions of a single phase parameter. The examples also include gates implementable with only three CNOT gates, showing that this lower bound is achievable. Decompositions that achieve the minimum possible CNOT count for several other cases are provided as well. Our results bridge Schmidt rank classification, entanglement structure, and resource-efficient circuit synthesis.

Classification of Schmidt-rank-two multipartite unitary gates by singular number

Yi Shen, Lin Chen, Li Zhi Yu

Abstract The multipartite unitary gates are called genuine if they are not product unitary operators across any bipartition. We mainly investigate the classification of genuine multipartite unitary gates of Schmidt rank two (SR-2), by focusing on the multiqubit scenario. For genuine multipartite (excluding bipartite) unitary gates of SR-2, there is an essential fact that their Schmidt decompositions are unique. Based on this fact, we propose a key notion named as singular number (SN) to classify the unitary gates concerned. The SN is defined as the number of local singular operators in the Schmidt decomposition. We then determine the accurate range of SN. For each SN, we formulate the parametric Schmidt decompositions of genuine multiqubit unitary gates under local equivalence. Finally, we extend the study to three-qubit diagonal unitary gates due to the close relation between diagonal unitary gates and SR-2 unitaries. We start with discussing two typical examples of SR-2, one of which is a fundamental three-qubit unitary gate, i.e. the CCZ gate. Then we characterize the diagonal unitary gates of SR greater than two. We show that a three-qubit diagonal unitary gate has SR at most three, and present a necessary and sufficient condition for such a unitary gate of SR-3. This completes the characterization of all genuine three-qubit diagonal unitary gates.

Three-Qubit State Preparation: Classification and Explicit Circuits

Yonghae Lee, Taewan Kim

We present a deterministic framework for preparing an arbitrary three-qubit pure state. To leverage entanglement structure in the state-preparation task, we classify three-qubit pure states into five types with respect to a $1|2$ bipartition. Given a target state specified by its amplitudes, we provide concrete criteria and concurrence-based tests that determine its type. For each type, we derive an explicit circuit template composed of elementary single-qubit rotations and CNOT gates, with gate parameters determined systematically from the Schmidt decomposition. The full construction is described step by step from the target amplitudes, with no procedural ambiguity. As an application, we further group frequently encountered three-qubit pure states in quantum information into four classes and provide an explicit circuit for each class. Compared with prior approaches, our circuits are designed for practical use: they admit a direct algorithmic instantiation, use only CNOT gates between adjacent qubits, and for certain classes achieve smaller gate counts and circuit depth.

Classification of nonlocal two-qubit gates using Schmidt number

S. Balakrishnan, Leona J. Felicia, R. Sankaranarayanan

It is known from Schmidt decomposition that Schmidt number of nonlocal two-qubit quantum gates is 2 or 4. We identify conditions on geometrical points of a gate to have Schmidt number 2. A simple analysis reveals that Schmidt number 2 corresponds to controlled unitary gates with CNOT being the only perfect entangler. Further, it is shown that Schmidt strength and entangling power are maximum only for CNOT in the controlled unitary family.

Synthesis and Upper Bound of Schmidt Rank of Bipartite Controlled‐Unitary Gates

Gui‐Long Jiang, Hai‐Rui Wei, Guo‐Zhu Song +1 more

Abstract Quantum circuit model is the most popular paradigm for implementing complex quantum computation. Based on Cartan decomposition, it is shown generalized controlled‐X (GCX) gates, 6 single‐qubit rotations about the y‐ and z‐axes, and single‐partite y‐ and z‐rotation‐types which are defined in this paper are sufficient to simulate a controlled‐unitary gate with controlling on . In the scenario of the unitary gate with that is locally equivalent to a diagonal unitary on , GCX gates and single‐partite y‐ and z‐rotation‐types are required to simulate it. The quantum circuit for implementing and are presented. Furthermore, it is found that with controlling has Schmidt rank two, and in other cases the diagonalized form of the target unitaries can be expanded in terms of specific simple types of product unitary operators.

Maximally entangled three-qubit states via geometric measure of entanglement

Sayatnova Tamaryan, Tzu-Chieh Wei, DaeKil Park

Bipartite maximally entangled states have the property that the largest Schmidt coefficient reaches its lower bound. However, for multipartite states, the standard Schmidt decomposition generally does not exist. We use a generalized Schmidt decomposition and the geometric measure of entanglement to characterize three-qubit pure states and derive a single-parameter family of maximally entangled three-qubit states. The paradigmatic Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) and $W$ states emerge as extreme members in this family of maximally entangled states. This family of states possesses different trends of entanglement behavior: in going from GHZ to $W$ states, the geometric measure, the relative entropy of entanglement, and the bipartite entanglement all increase monotonically whereas the three-tangle and bipartition negativity both decrease monotonically.
