Abstract

Abstract Optomechanics has become a very active area of research in recent years and has attracted significant interest in both theoretical and experimental studies. In this work, we theoretically investigate optomechanically induced transparency (OMIT) using a hybrid system consisting of two coupled optical cavities, each interacting with a spin ensemble. The cavities are coherently driven by a strong control field and a weak probe field. We analytically calculate the transmission spectrum of the coupled spin–cavity system and analyze the dynamics of the system. The obtained transmission response shows clear signatures of multi-window OMIT, which arises from coherent interference between the hybridized normal modes. Our results indicate that the presence of spin ensembles in both cavities significantly enhances the transparency behavior and provides additional tunable parameters to control the OMIT windows. In particular, the transmission spectrum and the shape of the transparency profile can be controlled by the spin–cavity interaction and the inter-cavity coupling strength J . Furthermore, the inter-cavity tunneling rate, spin decoherence, and spin–cavity coupling strength strongly influence the transparency properties. Overall, this study highlights the potential of spin-based multi-cavity optomechanical systems for coherent optical control and tunable quantum interference.

Optomechanically induced transparency in a multi-cavity system subjected to two-level atomic ensemble interference

Gongtao Yu, Guixia Pan

Abstract We investigate a hybrid multi-cavity optomechanical system with interference from a two-level atomic ensemble. The system is composed of three optical cavities and two nanomechanical resonators. A two-level atomic ensemble is filled into the middle optical cavity. The optical cavity located in the middle has two interaction forces with the two outermost optical cavities. What is more, the system also includes various types of interaction relations, which are the couplings of optical cavities with mechanical resonators and the coupling of optical cavity with two-level atomic ensemble. In order to study the optical response of optomechanically induced transparency, we modulate the interaction intensity within the system to obtain different eletromagnetic induced transparent phenomena. It has been found that under the influence of different parameters, the number of transparent windows and the width of transparent windows increase with an increase in the coupling of the optical cavities with atomic ensemble. In addition, as the system parameters change, the transparency points also move. The position of the two outermost transparent points becomes farther apart when the coupling of optical cavity with mechanical resonators increases. Our approach provides a great flexibility for controlling electromagnetically induced transparency. It will have the great potential applications for quantum information processing.

Adjustable quantum coherence effects in a hybrid optomechanical system *

Wen-Qing Xia, Ya‐Fei Yu, Zhi‐Ming Zhang

We propose a system for achieving some adjustable quantum coherence effects, including the normal-mode splitting (NMS), the optomechanically induced transparency (OMIT), and the optomechanically induced absorption (OMIA). In this system, two tunnel-coupled optomechanical cavities are each driven by a coupling field and coupled to an atomic ensemble. Besides, one of the cavities is also injected with a probe field. When the system works under different conditions, we can obtain the NMS, the OMIT, and the OMIA, respectively. These effects can be flexibly adjusted by the tunnel coupling between the two cavities, the power of the coupling lasers, and the coupling strength between the atomic ensembles and the cavity fields. Furthermore, we can realize the OMIT even if the oscillating mirrors have relatively larger decay rates.

Optomechanically induced transparency with Bose–Einstein condensate in double-cavity optomechanical system

Liwei Liu, Duojie Gengzang, Xiu-Jia An +1 more

We propose a novel technique of generating multiple optomechanically induced transparency (OMIT) of a weak probe field in hybrid optomechanical system. This system consists of a cigar-shaped Bose–Einstein condensate (BEC), trapped inside each high finesse Fabry-Pérot cavity. In the resolved sideband regime, the analytic solutions of the absorption and the dispersion spectrum are given. The tunneling strength of the two resonators and the coupling parameters of the each BEC in combination with the cavity field have the appearance of three distinct OMIT windows in the absorption spectrum. Furthermore, whether there is BEC in each cavity is a key factor in the number of OMIT windows determination. The technique presented may have potential applications in quantum engineering and quantum information networks.

Compound-induced transparency in three-cavity coupled structure*

Haoye Qin, Yiheng Yin, Ming Ding

We propose a three-cavity coupled cavity optomechanical (COM) structure with tunable system parameters and theoretically investigate the probe-light transmission rate. Numerical calculation of the system’s spectra demonstrates distinctive compound-induced transparency (CIT) characteristics, including multiple transparency windows and sideband dips, which can be explained by a coupling between optomechanically-induced transparency (OMIT) and electromagnetically-induced transparency. The effects of optical loss (gain) in the cavity, number and topology of active cavity, tunneling ratio, and pump laser power on the CIT spectrum are evaluated and analyzed. Moreover, the optical group delay of CIT is highly controllable and fast–slow light inter-transition can be achieved. The proposed structure makes possible the advantageous tuning freedom and provides a potential platform for controlling light propagation and fast–slow light switching.

Transparency and tunable slow-fast light in a hybrid cavity optomechanical system

Qinghong Liao, Xing Mao Xiao, Wenjie Nie +1 more

We theoretically investigate the optomechanically induced transparency (OMIT) phenomenon in a hybrid optomechanical system composing of an optomechanical cavity and a traditional one. A Kerr medium is inserted in the optomechanical cavity and the other traps the atomic ensemble. We demonstrate the appearance of electromagnetically and optomechanically induced transparency when there is only Kerr medium or atoms in the system. We give an explicit explanation for the mechanism of the transparency. Moreover, we set up new scheme for the measurement of Kerr coefficient and the single atom-photon coupling strength. It is shown that Kerr nonlinearity can inhibit the normal mode splitting (NMS) when the tunnel strength is strong coupling. Furthermore, in the output field, slow light and fast light are converted to realize the tunable switch from slow light to fast light. This study has some important guiding significance in the fields of the high precision measurement and quantum information processing.

Controllable optomechanically induced transparency and ponderomotive squeezing in an optomechanical system assisted by an atomic ensemble

Yin Xiao, Ya‐Fei Yu, Zhi‐Ming Zhang

We propose a system for realizing controllable optomechanically induced transparency (OMIT) and ponderomotive squeezing. In this system, an atomic ensemble driven by an external optical field couples with the cavity field in a typical optomechanical cavity. When the cavity is driven by a coupling laser and a probe laser, we can produce a switch for the probe field and adjust the width of the transparency window flexibly by manipulating the coupling strength between the atomic ensemble and the external optical field. We also investigate the ponderomotive squeezing properties of the transmitted field by analyzing its spectrum. Interestingly, the coupling strength between the atomic ensemble and the cavity field plays an important role in controlling the squeezing properties and the squeezing spectrum presents distinct features at red-detuned and blue-detuned frequencies by adjusting the coupling strength.
