Abstract

Quantum teleportation (QT) enables the secure transmission of quantum information between distant locations without physically moving the information carrier and plays an important role in quantum cryptography. To qualitatively and quantitatively evaluate the research progress of QT in quantum cryptography, we have conducted a scientometric analysis of 228 articles obtained from the Scopus database, spanning from 2000 to 2024. The study identified the growth pattern of academic productivity, productive authors, countries, and journals, and emerging topics within the rapidly expanding field of quantum cryptography. The study indicates that quantum information processing has emerged as the most active journal with a staggering count of 24 articles. Additionally, the core documents forming the framework of the quantum cryptography field were discussed. Moreover, research indicates that China maintains a dominant position globally, contributing 36.84% of the total documents.

Analyzing the contribution of material science in quantum cryptography: A scientometric study

Priya Sharma, Vrinda Gupta, Sandeep K. Sood

Abstract Quantum cryptography (QC) provides security to information through laws of nature, particularly quantum mechanics. The necessity of making QC a living reality has provided the impetus to advancement in material science, which led to many publications since 1996. Therefore, in this work, we analyze the articles in the Scopus database concerning the contribution of material science in the development of QC through scientometric methods. A total of 1395 articles published from 1996 to 2022 were retrieved from the Scopus database. Subsequently, these articles were analyzed to retrieve publication patterns, major collaborating nations, significant documents, recent trends, and future directions. A comprehensive introduction to QC is also included to facilitate a better grasp of this field for a wide range of readers. The findings of this study show that China is the leading nation in developing QC through material science, closely followed by the United States and India. Moreover, the study indicates significant areas of QC where extensive work is being done from the material science standpoint through keyword and significant document analysis. Hence, the outcomes of this article can be valuable for researchers, newcomers, technology managers, and policymakers interested in the future of QC.

Comprehensive survey of global research trends, challenges, and comparative advances in quantum cryptography and post-quantum cryptographic algorithms

Anubhav Saxena, Dinesh Kumar Saini, Satpal Singh Kushwaha

Quantum computing provides the pathway to dismantle the security provided by cryptography especially classical public-key systems due to the emergence of Shor’s algorithm. This emerging threat necessitates the development of new security paradigms that are quantum-resistant. Consequently, two new approaches have emerged as prominent solutions, namely Quantum Key Distribution (QKD), which relies on quantum mechanical principles for security, and Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC), which relies on classical cryptography for quantum resistance. This paper presents an extensive analysis of the global research trends in quantum cryptography and post-quantum cryptographic algorithms by incorporating the use of both bibliometric analysis and comparative analysis. The paper relies on a dataset collected from the Web of Science database from 2010 to 2025. The findings of the paper demonstrate an increase in scientific production in the field of quantum cryptography, with post-quantum cryptography emerging as a new dominant area coinciding with standardization by NIST, whereas quantum key distribution continues to evolve with new developments in quantum communication.

Quantum cryptography research over the past two decades – Review, research implications, and future directions

Shruti Singh, S. Vijayakumar Bharathi

The study proposes a unique blend of bibliometric analysis and systematic literature review con-ducted on the Scopus database to extensively review and bring out the research relating to quantum cryptography over the last two decades. In this research, a thorough analysis of the evolution of quantum cryptography in the information security domain in the last 22 years is conducted by applying Cochrane’s handbook of systematic review intervention and the visualization tool VOS viewer for the bibliometric analysis. The research study depicts the significance of quan-tum cryptographic protocols from pre-2015 and post-2015 perspectives. The study also provides a comparative analysis of the pre-2015 and post-2015 scenarios. Besides, this research is also extensively focused on the different applications that utilized protocols to enhance security during transmission. The research is discussed in light of the ongoing research potential. Finally, the future directions of quantum cryptography-based information security studies for both research and practice are explained.

Quantum Cryptography for Future Networks Security: A Systematic Review

Durr-E-Shahwar, Muhammad Imran, Ahmed B. Altamimi +3 more

Quantum Cryptography (QC) revolutionizes network communication – harnessing principles of quantum mechanics to enable the exchange of encrypted messages – for enabling secure data transmission in an era of quantum information processing. With a significant rise in quantum computing research and development efforts, there is an increasing interest in exploring QC (e.g., Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) and Quantum Secured Encryption (QSE)) against a multitude of security threats in futuristic networks for quantum information processing. The objective of this study is to review the existing research i.e., consolidating the published evidence, that streamlines and documents the predominant challenges, recurring solutions, security threats, and their counter-measures against the outlined research questions in the context of QC. To conduct this study, we followed the guidelines and method of Systematic Literature Reviews (SLRs) to answer seven research questions. These questions investigate the proposed solutions for state-of-the-art QC and its impact on future network security. Based on the seven (7) outlined research questions, this study systematically selected and reviewed one hundred and thirty four (134) research studies published from 2016 to 2023 with a focus on QC for quantum information processing. The results of this SLR establish a knowledge base for modern QC applications to guarantee network security in quantum-enabled network communications. The review reveals that though still in the phase of its inception, the research on QC is progressing rapidly, highlighting the necessity for network protocol and frameworks to cater for quantum network security. The SLR also highlights the challenges encountered while designing or implementing the QC systems, pinpointing the significance of keeping abreast of QKD networks and addressing possible ramifications for internet security in the future. The SLR provides theoretical foundations and evidence-based guidelines to tackle emerging and futuristic challenges of security in the context of QC and QKD for quantum information processing.

Quantum Cryptography: Advancements and Applications in Securing Networking Systems

Mohan Garg, Kambam Vedantan, I. Rexiline Sheeba +3 more

Quantum cryptography is an advanced technology that applies the principles of quantum mechanics to provide secure communication networks. Quantum crypto differs from other forms of cryptographic security that rely on mathematical theory because this allows quantum mechanics, the uncertainty principle and entanglement to enhance secure communication. Quantum cryptography has made significant progress recently and can effectively be used for networking system protection. Such advancement is the quantum key distribution protocol, where two parties generate the secret key to secure communication completely unshakable by any third party. One more advancement is the use of quantum teleportation, which allows transferring information between distant quantum systems without physically moving there. These developments have provided abundant opportunities for applications of quantum cryptography to secure networking systems. It helps maintain the secure transmission of sensitive information online or protects financial transactions and government and military communications. Quantum cryptography can also be used for secure authentication and access control, useful in cross-industry applications. Quantum cryptography is the best technology for implementing secure networking systems; thanks to its crypt-like harmony, it can be integrated into the most insecure networks with very rare error rates.
