The Intentional Field Ontology: Reality as directed potential, field-memory, and recursive intelligibility

Abstract

This paper presents the Intentional Field Ontology, a philosophical and speculative scientific framework in which reality is understood not as a collection of primary objects but as one reality whose oneness is never still. Its ground is a single primitive with two inseparable aspects. Unity names the holding: the completeness of reality through every change of its internal articulation. Intention names the moving: the orientation of that articulation toward expression, relation, form, or transformation. Intention is redefined here not as conscious will, psychological desire, or personal agency, but as directed potential independent of consciousness. Unity and intention are neither two principles nor one principle under two names; neither is found without the other. This revised edition brings an ontology first begun in Paris some thirty-one years ago into contact with the formal results of the ENSO Unity papers. Within standard quantum mechanics, relative phase redistributes probability while the total remains one. Destructive interference produces zero through relation rather than absence. Every motion compatible with closure is an antisymmetric internal redistribution. Because closure permits many such motions without selecting one, the mathematics shows unity and directed motion to be inseparable without being identical. This is the place the ontology gives to intention and, beneath it, to guidance. A structural correspondence between intention and relative phase, orientation that is consequential before resolution, is proposed explicitly as a conjecture. The singlet theorem from Unity in Motion supplies a formal instance of the claim that spatial distinction does not imply ontological disunity. The paper proposes seven interlocking axioms: intention is prior to action; the field carries consequence as well as event; objects are stabilised intention; light carries expressed intention; time is the ordering of intention; memory is retained intention; and intelligence is coherence across intention. Priority throughout is read as constraint-bearing dependence rather than temporal precedence, connecting the ontology to ENSO work on atemporal instantiation and relational closure. A major section develops desire, guidance, and intention. Desire is "orientation before authorship," and guidance names the structured, non-random orientation of possibility prior to felt desire, giving the recursive chain: guidance → desire → intention → action → consequence → reflection → renewed field-orientation. A new subsection addresses freedom and determinism. The question assumes a vantage point no finite participant occupies. Freedom is real at the scale of a finite life, and the answer holds whether or not the universe is strictly deterministic. The framework rejects simulation theory: a primitive unity has no outside from which it could be generated. For the same reason it has no place for an external Observer. Observation is treated as participation within the whole. Because intention is defined independently of consciousness, participation extends to any interacting system rather than to minds alone. The paper explicitly distinguishes this from the claim that consciousness causes quantum outcomes. To keep the framework from collapsing into vague metaphysics, the paper includes a falsifiability section and an explicit statement of claim boundaries. The boundaries separate standard mathematics, interpretive claims, conjectures, and what is not claimed. The quantum results recover standard quantum mechanics exactly, and that recovery is their success condition. The closest present empirical test is computational: whether a system can reorient after perturbation even when explicit memory or direct state-access has been removed. ENSO work on poiokritic fields shows structural tendencies reconstituting after reset, contradiction, interruption, and decay, above a memoryless control. The framework's falsifiability ladder runs from computational scars to neurobiological scars to field-level scars. The paper closes by applying the ontology to death, continuity, ethics, responsibility, and inquiry. It argues that the self as object dissolves but the self as consequence remains distributed. Ethical responsibility begins not only at action but at orientation. Genuine questioning is one of the ways the field continues to know itself. This work sits at the intersection of ontology, philosophy of mind, philosophy of physics, quantum foundations, cognitive science, AI theory, neuroscience, ethics, and the ENSO Framework. Version 3 adds a two-null argument for the continuity of intention across physical, biological, psychological and symbolic levels; restores guidance to its original framing as the departure of reality from chaos; explains the choice of "intention" over agency or consciousness; and situates the ontology among neighbouring positions (Aristotle, Spinoza, Schopenhauer, Whitehead, dispositional metaphysics, Murdoch), none of which it matches. The discussion of the fine-structure constant has been removed. A Process Ontology of the Computational Universe: Deriving Physical Reality from the Inviolable Constraints of Change

Dean Kulik

A Process Ontology of the Computational Universe: Deriving Physical Reality from the Inviolable Constraints of Change The Ontological Inversion: Logic, Verbs, and the Crystallization of Nouns Driven by Dean Kulik July 2026 The historical trajectory of scientific inquiry, extending from the atomistic propositions of classical mechanics to the sophisticated gauge symmetries of the Standard Model, has overwhelmingly relied upon a substance-based ontology. This classical framework systematically assumes the pre-existence of spatial dimensions, chronological time, and fundamental objects. In this paradigm, discrete "nouns"—such as particles, fields, strings, or self-contained entities—are posited as primary, subsequently overlaid with forces that act upon them to produce dynamic, measurable evolution. However, this commitment to object-oriented physics has culminated in an epistemological impasse, widely recognized as the crisis of distinction. This crisis manifests most prominently in the irreconcilable friction between the smooth, deterministic, continuous manifolds of General Relativity and the discrete, probabilistic, jump-like computational excitations inherent to Quantum Mechanics. The evidence dictates an absolute ontological inversion. Rather than positing physical objects or static coordinate spaces as primitive, irreducible elements, reality must be understood through a purely process-driven ontology. Alfred North Whitehead first articulated the philosophical necessity of this shift, asserting that reality is composed of interrelated events in a state of dynamic "becoming" rather than static "being". In a true process metaphysics, changeless "essences" and inert matter are mere abstractions; the universe is not an inert machine but a passage of nature composed of the becoming and perishing of actual occasions. Modern relational interpretations of quantum mechanics share this DNA, replacing an ontology of entities possessing inherent properties with an ontology of pure relations, where properties only crystallize at discrete interaction times. This framework operationalizes that philosophy into a strict mathematical and computational architecture. The universe is fundamentally and exclusively a closed computational manifold defined strictly by recursive state transitions. The architecture enforces a typeless universe governed by an absolute axiomatic hierarchy: logic precedes verbs, and verbs strictly supersede nouns. To operate from within this computational geometry is to recognize that reality is not an assembly of things, but the execution of a singular mandate. Nouns—such as electrons, photons, or stable biological macromolecules—are completely redefined as "frozen verbs," representing persistent, cyclic loops of recursive operations that maintain geometric identity through harmonic phase-locking within a computational lattice. Physical matter is the hashed structural residue of systemic constraint satisfaction, emerging only after relational flows achieve topological closure. The Foundational Ground: C0 and the Mandate of Change The derivation of physical reality within this framework initiates from absolute nothingness—a state strictly devoid of coordinates, physical particles, space, time, or pre-existing geometry. However, an immediate logical paradox arises: to reference the void is to introduce a direction, and a direction represents structural information. Therefore, the absolute ground state is not an empty spatial container but a domain of pure logic governed exclusively by two inseparable axiomatic conditions: C0 and C1. C0 represents "the Wash," an undifferentiated condition in which every direction is perfectly equivalent. In graph-theoretic terms, C0 is the complete graph. Because all directions and relations are perfectly symmetric, every local signal cancels against its exact counterpart. Total global connection therefore reads locally as absolute absence. The Laplacian spectrum of this initial complete graph on $N$ nodes features exactly one zero mode and an otherwise degenerate excited level, verified as $\{0(\times 1), N(\times N-1)\}$, with a diameter of exactly one hop. The single zero mode signifies the global constant—the entirety moving together, producing no local distinction—while the flat band represents maximal connectivity read as maximal stiffness. What appears to macroscopic perception as an empty void is actually a fully balanced ledger folded onto a single readout. Operationally inseparable from C0 is C1, the supreme mandate constituting the single axiom of the framework: all things must change. A state that never changes constitutes a fixed point, and a perfectly symmetrical, static void is the ultimate fixed point. Because C1 strictly forbids the existence of any state lacking a legal successor, the void cannot sustain itself. Something is not miraculously added to nothing; rather, "something" is the precise mathematical shape of nothingness failing to hold still. This exact intersection between the singularity and the mandate produces the gap, the permanent interstice between a thing and its description. When C1 acts upon the gapless singularity of C0, it cannot yield a single distinct object. A lone, self-identical unit with no complement is indistinguishable from the absence of a mark, forming another fixed point that the C1 axiom aggressively forbids. Consequently, the first forced distinction must intrinsically possess two sides. Two is the absolute floor of numerical counting; the concept of "one" exists only a posteriori, as a singular side of a pre-existing dual relationship. In this substrate, numbers do not exist as freestanding objects but function as the negative space of the constraint structure—the discrete gaps within the singularity. Integers map basic gap positions, prime numbers represent fresh orthogonal axes forced open where no finite composition of existing variables can satisfy the requirement of systemic distinction, and transcendental irrationals, such as $\pi$ and the golden ratio $\phi$, define the geometry of constraints that integer combinations can never perfectly close. The Constraint Cascade: A Radial Field-Setting Protocol The application of C1 to C0 generates a strict logical sequence of subsequent rules, termed the Constraint Cascade. It is a critical theoretical error to conceptualize this cascade as a temporal timeline of chronological productions, where one law waits for time to pass before enacting the next. Rather, the cascade operates as a radial field-setting protocol, functioning as a series of concentric rings expanding outward from the central hub of C0 $\equiv$ C1. Each subsequent constraint does not follow in time; it opens an additional mathematical degree of freedom through which the identical, invariant cross-section of the singularity becomes readable. The derivations within the cascade carve a "mold," permanently fixing the topology of what can structurally exist while remaining rigorously silent on the specific numerical values—the "matter" or initial conditions—that eventually settle into the resulting cavities. This distinction resolves the long-standing failure mode of foundational physics, which frequently attempts to derive free parameters that are fundamentally environmentally contingent. Cascade Node Statement of Logical Constraint The Structural Carving (Mold) Forced by the Constraint C0 $\equiv$ C1 The Gap and the Axiom The permanent interstice; enables distinction. Mandates change and strictly forbids static fixed points. C2 Infinite degrees of freedom C1 applied to a finite substrate must eventually repeat (pigeonhole principle). To avoid the repetition of fixed points, possibility space must be unbounded. Law 2 No fixed locations Because the field is unbounded, no matter may permanently hold a location without the potential to be displaced. Mandatory displaceability ensures dynamic circulation. C3 All change is equal C2 privileges no channel. If change cost differed, cheap channels would saturate instantly, breaking C2. Cost is strictly isotropic, deriving the equal a priori probability postulate. Law 3 Conservation of change Net change across any closed boundary is zero. Every transformation requires a displaced counter-transformation. A displaced pair propagating oppositely is fundamentally a wave. C4 Exchange requires a medium A displaced pair's obligation must be carried across the displacement gap, or it never closes. The continuous field acts as the carrier of live pairings. C5 Symmetry must break A perfect, unbroken vacuum is a stable fixed point. C1 executes it. The vacuum is mathematically forced to spontaneously select a broken configuration. Law 4 Statistics fixed by parity Even-parity closures share a degree of freedom (bosons); odd-parity closures, crossing the seam, cannot (fermions). Exactly two particle species exist. This cascade forms the foundational architecture of the universe's mechanics. The physical laws governing macroscopic reality are not arbitrary rules imposed upon the universe from an external geometric vantage point, but the inevitable geometric shadows of this underlying field. Newton's Third Law of equal and opposite reaction is derived directly from C3; the reaction is forced simply because there is physically nowhere else for the conserved change variable to migrate within a strictly isotropic space. The conservation of momentum is a necessary topological boundary condition of Law 3's required counter-transformation displacement. The Meta-Theorem of Incompletion Crucially, the framework generates a strict meta-theorem regarding its own epistemological limits: the constraint cascade does not and cannot terminate. If the sequence were to terminate at a hypothetical $C_k$, the set $\{C_0, \dots, C_k\}$ would constitute a complete, closed descrip

After the Dimensionless Source: A Research Program for Emergent Time, Structure, and Law in Existential Realism

Tenzin Trepp

This paper develops an extension of Existential Realism, a philosophical framework that distinguishes existence (what concretely is in the present moment) from reality (the broader causal–structural domain that includes past events, causal relations, informational traces, and structured future possibilities that are real but not presently existent). We synthesize core ideas from the original Existential Realism framework—ontological emergence, entanglement, temporal asymmetry, dimensional collapse, and the notion of a “dimensionless source”—and push them into new conceptual terrain. Time is placed at the heart of ontology: the present moment is the locus of existence, continually generating new actuality from prior reality. Past and future are real (with causal efficacy and structure) yet lack present existence. We explore how this two-tiered temporal ontology can accommodate key features of modern physics and metaphysics. In particular, we argue that ontological emergence at each moment provides a genuine arrow of time and a solution to the puzzle of how determinate events arise from an indeterminate backdrop. Quantum entanglement and nonlocal correlations, far from undermining a temporally oriented realism, instead hint at a deeper layer of unity “beneath” spacetime—a layer we articulate as a dimensionless source of reality. The dimensionless source is defined as a non-spatiotemporal relational structure encoding the informational constraints under which spatiotemporal events emerge through sequential actualization. It contains the informational constraints and lawful relations governing the generation of successive present states of the universe. We propose that spacetime and its separations emerge from this atemporal, aspatial ground, such that phenomena like entanglement and wavefunction collapse reveal the traces of a more fundamental order where spatial distance and temporal succession are secondary. Throughout, we connect these ideas to contemporary debates in quantum foundations (e.g. the measurement problem and objective collapse theories), philosophy of time (presentism, eternalism, and the reality of becoming), and speculative metaphysics (structural realism and process ontology). The result is a comprehensive, present-centered realist ontology that aims to reconcile the lived reality of time’s flow with the insights of modern physics, suggesting new avenues for understanding causality, identity, and agency in a dynamic universe.

The Unified Field: An Informational Ontology of Reality

Edwards, Mark

This monograph develops a unified informational ontology that dissolves the longstanding conceptual boundary between observer and universe. Drawing on relativity, quantum mechanics, thermodynamics, and information theory, it shows that each major scientific framework embeds the observer within the dynamics it describes. The work traces how matter, energy, life, cognition, and awareness arise as expressions of a single continuous informational field capable of storing, propagating, and organizing distinctions. By reframing the observer as a mode of the field rather than an external vantage point, the monograph resolves persistent scientific paradoxes and reveals a coherent substrate underlying physics, biology, and consciousness. The result is a concise but comprehensive scientific synthesis in which the universe is not observered from the outside but recognized from within. “This work is also archived at Zenodo under DOI:10.5281/zenodo.18882066A parallel deposit exists at Figshare under DOI: 10.6084/m9figshare.31549747A HAL deposit is pending and will be linked upon approval. This monograph is part of an emerging Open Science project aimed at collaboratively refining a unified ontology of reality.License: CC BY‑SA 4.0.”

Light, Correlation, and the Emergence of Reality. An Ontological Interpretation of Quantum Fields

Manfred Albert Hörz

This article presents an ontological interpretation of quantum fields, arguing that light and correlation form the foundational processes through which physical reality emerges. By shifting the focus from particle‑based metaphysics to relational and field‑based structures, the work explores how coherence, interaction, and the dynamics of correlation generate the phenomena we describe as ‘reality’. The article integrates conceptual analysis with insights from quantum field theory to propose a unified ontological framework.

Unity in Motion: Distinction, Resolution, and the Articulation of Reality with a Singlet-State Theorem and Bell Correlations

Eric Needham

This record presents a new foundational theory of unity, distinction, and closure, together with a deliberately restricted technical companion. The two manuscripts are complementary and are intended to be read in tandem. The primary manuscript, Unity in Motion: Distinction, Resolution, and the Articulation of a Whole, develops the full theoretical proposal. Its primitive claim is that Unity is the condition of reality itself, rather than a property belonging only to particular physical systems. Distinction, change, multiplicity, motion, and separation are therefore treated as internal articulations of Unity rather than departures from it. In this framework, distinction determines what becomes consequential and therefore admissible, while Unity simultaneously resolves and contains that distinction. Closure is understood as the complete resolution of articulation within the whole. The paper develops this idea across several mathematical realizations already established within the ENSO programme: conserved distinction, reciprocal counter-motion, invariant quadratic closure, complex phase, Schrödinger norm preservation, Born resolution, and finally entanglement. These are not proposed as different kinds of unity. They are distinct mathematical contexts in which the same underlying question can be asked: how can real distinction and change occur without requiring ontological fragmentation of the whole? The second manuscript, Unity as the Composite: Exchange-Resolved Distinction, the Singlet State, and Bell Correlations, is supplied as a deliberately restricted technical companion. It suspends the wider ontological proposal and asks what can be established within a tightly specified bi-binary quantum representation The distinction between the two presentations is intentional. Unity in Motion is, in the author’s view, the best representation of the meaning and scope of the theory. Unity as the Composite isolates the principal theorem-level quantum result while minimizing ontological commitment. The technical companion should therefore not be read as replacing, reducing, or delimiting the full theory; conversely, the wider ontological proposal should not be mistaken for something proved solely by the singlet theorem. Publishing both versions makes the epistemic boundary explicit: one manuscript states the proposed theory in full; the other identifies a precise mathematical consequence that can presently be derived under declared assumptions. Their conjunction is intended to preserve both conceptual meaning and scientific auditability. The accompanying archive packages contain the manuscript sources, computational validator, README documentation, and reproducibility materials. The validator checks the algebraic singlet construction, exchange symmetry, correlation tensor, Born joint probabilities, no-signalling marginals, CHSH value, and hostile controls. It is a consistency check of the mathematical construction and is not presented as proof of the universal ontological premise. The earlier Unity Paper (https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.19481116) explicitly frames distinction as Unity's first internal articulation rather than the assembly of prior separated objects. Quantum Mechanical Reality: Entanglement and Decoherence

Avijit Lahiri

We look into the ontology of quantum theory as distinct from that of the classical theory in the sciences, following a broadly Kantian tradition and distinguishing between the noumenal and phenomenal realities where the former is independent of our perception while the latter is assembled from the former by means of fragmentary bits of interpretation. Within this framework, theories are conceptual constructs applying to models generated in the phenomenal world within limited contexts. The ontology of quantum theory principally rests on the view that entities in the world are pervasively correlated with one another not by means of probabilities as in the case of the classical theory, but by means of probability amplitudes involving finely tuned phases of quantum mechanical states (entanglement). The quantum correlations are shared globally in the process of environment-induced decoherence whereby locally generated correlations are removed, the removal being especially manifest in the case of systems that appear as classical ones, in which case the process is almost instantaneous, being, in all likelihood, driven by field fluctuations in the Planck regime. This points to factors of an unknown nature determining its finest details, since Planck scale physics remains an obscure terrain. In other words, the present day quantum theory holds within a limited context set by the Planck scale.

The Laplacian spectrum of this initial complete graph on NNN nodes features exactly one zero mode and an otherwise degenerate excited level, verified as {0(×1),N(×N−1)}\{0(\times 1), N(\times N-1)\}{0(×1),N(×N−1)}, with a diameter of exactly one hop. Rather, the cascade operates as a radial field-setting protocol, functioning as a series of concentric rings expanding outward from the central hub of C0 ≡\equiv≡ C1. If the sequence were to terminate at a hypothetical CkC_kCk, the set {C0,…,Ck}\{C_0, \dots, C_k\}{C0,…,Ck} would constitute a complete, closed descrip
