QUANTUM CRYPTOGRAPHY: THE FUTURE OF SECURE COMMUNICATION

Amos R Thejashwini J S

Quantum cryptography is the next generation of secure communication using the laws of physics as the basis of its security as opposed to the mathematical complexity that classical cryptography relies upon. This paper explores quantum key distribution (QKD), post-quantum cryptography, and quantum-resistant algorithms. We discuss the operational principle behind BB84, E91, and other QKD protocols, real-world implementations, and explore difficulties with practical implementation, e.g., quantum decoherence, hardware limitations, etc. We also discuss existing cryptographic systems that might be affected by quantum computing and recent developments within the field toward quantum-safe encryption. Finally, we discuss future directions for study and policy direction pertaining to developing quantum-secure infrastructure.
