Paper CXIII: · · Predictions P189, P190 The Photoelectric Effect as Lattice Mass Transfer, and the Lattice Origin of All Quantum Postulates

Abstract

The photoelectric effect is the entry point into a geometric restatement of all of quantum mechanics. In the One-Octonion Brane-Bulk Framework: (1) The electron is a standing wave in the Fano lattice — a focal zone that oscillates without propagating. (2) The photon transfers energy by deepening this focal zone, increasing the electron's rest mass by δm = hν/c² before ejection. (3) Ejection occurs when the deepened focal zone exceeds the metal lattice's binding capacity φ — not from a direct photon kick. (4) Frequency selectivity arises because the lattice responds to energy per node-handoff (hν), not total handoff count. This is Prediction P189. More profoundly: a discrete lattice permits only those standing wave modes that fit its node geometry. This means only quantized modes are possible. This is not a postulate — it is a geometric consequence of lattice discreteness. All four pillars of quantum mechanics — Bohr's quantization condition, de Broglie's relation, Schrödinger's energy levels, and Einstein's photoelectric threshold — are projections of this single fact. Mass quantization follows immediately: since mass = focal deceleration = standing wave depth, and only discrete standing wave modes exist, only discrete masses are possible. This is Prediction P190. Quantization is not surprising. It is unavoidable for any standing wave on a discrete lattice. Part of the One-Octonion Brane-Bulk Framework series. Anchor DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.19120873. Paper XXXI: Orbital Shapes, Compton Scattering, and the Photoelectric Eect

Bharathi Jagadeesan

Three foundational phenomena of quantum mechanics are unied under two complementary concepts derived from the brane-bulk framework. (1) Electron orbital shapes arise from eigenvalue interference: the self-interference of the spin waveform as the electron wraps around a nucleus, generating the characteristic nodal patterns of s, p, d, f orbitals as standing waves of the angular harmonic modes (Paper VIII). (2) Compton scattering is mode transfer: a photon (radial wave mode, Paper VI) collides with an electron (angular wave mode, Paper VIII), transferring momentum between modes. The Compton wavelength λ_C = ℏ/m_e c is the spatial period of the electron spin-1/2 oscillation the length over which one full spin cycle occurs. (3) The photoelectric eect is threshold resonance: a photon must have energy E = hν ≥ϕ (work function) to excite the electron from its standing wave eigenstate into a free propagating mode. Paper CXII: · · Prediction P188 Wave-Particle Duality as Lattice Resolution Particles Are Lattice Nodes. Waves Are Inter-Node Coherence. The Debate Was About

Bharathi Jagadeesan

The century-long Einstein–Bohr debate over whether light is a wave or a particle is dissolved — not resolved — by recognising that the question was about resolution, not nature. In the One-Octonion Brane-Bulk Framework, the universe is a Fano lattice. A lattice has two simultaneously real aspects: its nodes (discrete, localised) and its inter-node phase coherence (distributed, continuous). Seeing a particle means resolving a single Fano lattice node. Seeing a wave means resolving the phase coherence flowing between nodes. These are Fourier conjugates of each other in the lattice — not complementary properties of an ambiguous entity, but different resolutions of the same unambiguous structure. The photon, as a δH = 0 brane mode, IS inter-node phase coherence: each node handoff ⁺ costs exactly h = ℓ_P m_P c. That is simultaneously why it is the purest wave (it is coherence) and the purest particle (it is one quantum). The 2025 MIT/USTC springy-slit experiments find V² + D² < 1 for intermediate measurement strengths. The framework interprets this as T2* brane decoherence (not state mixing), predicting an exponential decay of V² + D² with propagation distance L that is absent from standard QM. Research on Microscopic Mechanism of Photoelectric Effect Based on Photon Figure-Eight Topological Standing Wave Model

ShenQuan ShenQuan

Based on the photon topological origin system established in the publicly archived general outline literature (DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.20845911) and the model framework of the previous two papers in this series (Quantum Transition, Quantum Tunneling), this paper constructs the microscopic mechanism of the photoelectric effect entirely within the three-dimensional physical framework. The photoelectric effect is not a particle process of photons "hitting" electrons, but a process of energy coupling and topological dissociation between continuous light waves and the figure-eight topological closed-loop structures of electrons at metal surfaces. Light waves arrive at the metal surface as continuous wave fields and resonantly couple with the electron's figure-eight closed-loop standing waves. Only when the light wave frequency satisfies the resonance condition of the closed-loop standing wave can the integral unit of energy be absorbed, increasing the electron's superposed amplitude to the emission threshold. When the superposed amplitude reaches the energy threshold corresponding to the work function, the topological closed loop partially dissociates, and the electron escapes the metal surface binding. This paper continues the "base amplitude and superposed amplitude" framework from the previous papers: electrons change only their superposed amplitude and equivalent energy upon absorbing light wave energy; the closed-loop ontology remains intact before emission. After emission, electrons continue to move as free particles. This model provides a complete physical interpretation of the photoelectric effect from the perspective of internal topological structure, without introducing particle models of "photon-electron collisions" or abstract probability interpretations.

Paper XLI: Quantum Tunneling as Transient Bulk Excursion of the Focal Zone

Bharathi Jagadeesan

Quantum tunneling is the transient excursion of a particle's focal zone into the 5D bulk, bypassing a barrier that exists on the brane but has no bulk counterpart. (1) Imaginary momentum p = iℏκ is literally bulk-directed momentum: the imaginary unit i is the 90◦rotation from brane to bulk on S7 (Paper IV). (2) The tunneling probability e−2κd is the probability of completing a bulk excursion of length κd. (3) The Hartman eect is resolved: the traversal time is set by brane-bulk coupling and decoupling timescales, both barrier-thickness independent. (4) Resonant tunneling is a bulk standing wave condition. (5) The Gamow factor G = R κ(r) dr for α decay is the total bulk path length to bypass the Coulomb barrier. The Geiger-Nuttall law (115 years of α decay data) is the bulk-path-length formula for the Coulomb potential. Part of the One-Octonion Brane-Bulk Framework series. Paper CCLVIII: The Quantum Potential as Brane-Bulk Transit Feedback — Resolving the Lohmiller–Slotine / Vattay Debate via the One-Octonion Brane-Bulk Framework

Bharathi Jagadeesan

Lohmiller & Slotine (Proc. R. Soc. A 482:20250413, 2026) propose a classical contracting-flow construction on the eikonal phase S(x,t) which they argue recovers quantum-wave evolution. Vattay (Comment, arXiv:2605.02621) correctly observes that the construction reproduces only the Hamilton-Jacobi + continuity sector of the Madelung-Bohm decomposition: it cannot generate the quantum potential Q = −ℏ²∇²√ρ/(2m√ρ), without which the recovered evolution is the classical limit of the Schrödinger equation, not the equation itself. We resolve this debate within the One-Octonion Brane-Bulk (OOB) framework. In OOB, the classical sector is the brane-localised f_bulk → 0 limit. Q arises as the back-reaction of brane-bulk transit components of the wavefunction on the brane density profile, with characteristic length the particle Compton scale ℓ_C = ℏ/(mc) and characteristic weight the transit probability f_bulk(E) = 1 − sinc²(E/2m_π). An order-of-magnitude estimate recovers the Madelung-Bohm form |Q| ≈ (ℏ²/2m)·|∇²√ρ|/√ρ structurally. The Gudermannian Class-III bridge (CCLII) supplies the smooth classical ↔ quantum interpolation via the same f_III = 1 − 4/π² blend used in the neutrino-sector chain. The Lohmiller-Slotine theorem is exact at f_bulk = 0; Vattay's missing piece is exactly the contribution identified here. Five predictions span atomic (null OOB at E ≪ m_π) to GeV (0.98 coherence loss in transparent media, tying to CCLVII). Honest scope: structural argument, not rigorous Schrödinger re-derivation; the O(1) coefficient is not pinned without further assumptions. Companion to CCLVII (same f_bulk(E) wavelength-asymmetry channel). Part of the One-Octonion Brane-Bulk Framework series. Anchor DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.19120873. Community: one-octonion-brane-bulk.
