Abstract

We show the following: the characteristics of the interference patterns of the optics slit experiments: (1). depend on whether the slits are parallel; (2) depend on whether the slits are straight lines or curves; (3) independent on whether there are missing segments at the intersection of, for example, cross-double-slit. The complete interpretation is a challenge and will motivate further development of optics.

Deeper Mysteries of Double Slit Experiments --- 1D and 2D Non-Interference and Interference Patterns

Hui Peng

The normal double slit experiments (we refer to it as Straight-Parallel-double-slit) are basic experiments and Feynman’s mystery in the optics/quantum mechanics. In this article, we show the following new mysteries: the characteristics of the interference patterns of the optical slit experiments depend on whether the slits are straight-lines or curve-lines and whether two slits are parallel or non-parallel; and independent on whether there are missing segments at the intersection of, for example, cross-double-slit. We ignore the effects of both the width of the slits and the distance between two slits and then, show the following: there is no variable in Straight-Parallel-double-slit; Straight-Non-Parallel-double-slit has one variable, the angle between two slits; Curve-Parallel-double-slit has one variable, the curvature of the slits; Curve-Non-Parallel-double-slit has two variables, the angle and curvature, and the curvatures of two slits may be either the same or different. The characteristics of patterns depend on those variables. The complete and consistent interpretation is a challenge. The above experiments show deeper mysteries and would motivate further study of optics.

WITHDRAWN: Novel Mystery of Double Slit/Cross-double Slit Experiments--- Curved Interference Pattern andInterference Pattern Depending on Orientation of Diaphragm

hui peng

Abstract Young’s double slit experiments express the mystery of quantum mechanics. To explore the mystery, varieties of the double slit and cross-double slit experiments were performed. In this article, we show novel mystery phenomena: (1) the characteristics of the interference patterns of the double slit and cross-double slit experiments depend on the orientation of the diaphragm used in the experiment, specifically on which axis the diaphragm rotates around, the rotating angle and how to rotate, clockwise or counterclockwise; and (2) in the cross-double slit experiments, the characteristics of the interference patterns also depend on which slit photons pass through; (3) unlike the regular double slit and regular cross-double slit experiments, in which the interference patterns are along the straight line, the interference patterns of the double slit/cross-double slit experiments can be along curve, and the curvatures depend on the orientations of the diaphragms of the double slit/cross-double slit. Those experiments show more mysteries of the double slit and cross-double slit experiments and provide comprehensive data for developing/testing a theoretical model.

Double Slit to Non-parallel Double Slit to Curved Double Slit

Hui Peng

Young’s double slit experiment was called as "a phenomenon […] has in it the heart of quantum mechanics. In reality, it contains the only mystery. We cannot make the mystery go away by ‘explaining’ how it works". To study the mystery, we perform the non-crossing-slit-experiments and crossing-slit experiments and show phenomena: (1) in the same double slit or cross double slit experiments, the non-interference patterns gradually evolve to the interference patterns; (2) in the same single slit or cross single slit experiments, the non-diffraction patterns gradually evolve to the diffraction patterns; (3) in the same two-non-parallel-slits experiment, the non-wave patterns gradually evolve to the hybrid pattern (i.e., interference-pattern-embedded-in-diffraction-pattern); (4) in the same curved-double slit experiments, the non-interference patterns evolve to Seashell-shape interference patterns. The above phenomena show new mysteries that are more mysterious than that of the double slit experiments: it is challenge to consistently explain how they work. Those novel phenomena indicate that the standard theories of the double slit are incomplete. Novel experiments bring the search for the new theory of physical/quantum optics.
