Towards Quantum Dynamics Simulation of Physical Systems: A Survey

Rikteem Bhowmick, Navaneeth Krishnan Mohan, Devesh Kumar +2 more

After the emergence of quantum mechanics and realising its need for an accurate understanding of physical systems, numerical methods were being used to undergo quantum mechanical treatment. With increasing system correlations and size, numerical methods fell rather inefficient, and there was a need to simulate quantum mechanical phenomena on actual quantum computing hardware. Now, with noisy quantum computing machines that have been built and made available to use, realising quantum simulations are edging towards a practical reality. In this paper, we talk about the progress that has been made in the field of quantum simulations by actual quantum computing hardware and talk about some very fascinating fields where it has expanded its branches, too. Not only that, but we also review different software tool-sets available to date, which are to lay the foundation for realising quantum simulations in a much more comprehensive manner.

Programming tools for Analogue Quantum Computing in the High-Performance Computing Context – A Review

Mateusz Meller, Vendel Szeremi, Oliver Thomson Brown

Recent advances in quantum computing have brought us closer to realizing the potential of this transformative technology. While significant strides have been made in quantum error correction, many challenges persist, particularly in the realm of noise and scalability. Analogue quantum computing schemes, such as Analogue Hamiltonian Simulation and Quantum Annealing, offer a promising approach to address these limitations. By operating at a higher level of abstraction, these schemes can simplify the development of large-scale quantum algorithms. To fully harness the power of quantum computers, they must be seamlessly integrated with traditional high-performance computing (HPC) systems. While substantial research has focused on the integration of circuit-based quantum computers with HPC, the integration of analogue quantum computers remains relatively unexplored. This paper aims to bridge this gap by contributing in the following way: Comprehensive Survey: We conduct a comprehensive survey of existing quantum software tools with analogue capabilities. Readiness Assessment: We introduce a classification and rating system to assess the readiness of these tools for HPC integration. Gap Identification and Recommendations: We identify critical gaps in the landscape of analogue quantum programming models and propose actionable recommendations for future research and development.

A Survey of Quantum Computing: Foundations, Challenges, and Emerging Directions

Marwa R. Hassan, Taha M. Mahmoud, Naima Kaabouch

Quantum computing represents a transformative shift in computational paradigms by leveraging quantum mechanical phenomena such as superposition, entanglement, and quantum interference. Unlike classical computers, which rely on binary logic, quantum systems exploit these principles to solve certain problems more efficiently. This survey presents a comprehensive overview of the field, drawing from extensive literature spanning foundational quantum principles through key quantum algorithms, hardware platforms, and programming tools. The analysis bridges theoretical foundations with practical engineering challenges, examining both current capabilities and fundamental limitations of quantum systems. The paper also explores applications in cryptography, optimization, and quantum simulation, while addressing the ethical implications and long-term prospects of quantum technologies. Distinct from prior surveys, this work provides a unified perspective that connects quantum theory to practical implementation, supporting researchers and students in navigating the evolving landscape of quantum computing.
