Two-photon blockade in an atom-cavity system with two-photon Jaynes–Cummings coupling

Abstract

In this paper, the two-photon blockade effect in an atom-cavity system, by two-photon Jaynes–Cummings coupling, has been studied. In this hybrid system, that is, a three-wave-mixing system with an atom, by means of analytical calculations and numerical simulations, we show that the two-photon blockade effect can be realized. The presence of an atom by two-photon Jaynes–Cummings coupling could make the blockade effect much stronger than that in a three-wave-mixing system. Furthermore, the increase in two-photon Jaynes–Cummings coupling strength could further enhance the blockade effect. All of these may provide useful references for future experimental or application studies of two-photon sources or devices.

Unconventional photon blockade in a Jaynes–Cummings model nonlinearly coupled with two other modes

Yuxuan Wang, Tong Mao, Yang Hui +1 more

Abstract We have investigated the unconventional photon blockade (UPB) in a hybrid system consisting of a Jaynes–Cummings model nonlinearly coupled with two other modes via a three-wave mixing interaction, operating in the weak coupling regime (compared with the decay rates of the system). We present both analytical and numerical results, obtained by solving the Schrödinger equation and the quantum master equation, respectively. The results show that the numerical simulations agree well with the analytical predictions and that the UPB effect would occur in this hybrid system both in the cavity-driven and atom-driven conditions. Under both driving conditions, the hybrid system could exhibit superior performance over the Jaynes–Cummings model under the same driving condition, i.e. achieve a stronger photon blockade effect. The influences of driving strength and coupling coefficient on photon blockade effect have also been discussed. Our finding may have potential applications in single-photon sources design.

One-photon and two-photon blockades in a four-wave-mixing system embedded with an atom

Yuanchuan Li, Zhihai Yao, Hui Min Yang

In this paper, the photon blockade effect in a nondegenerate four-wave-mixing system embedded with a two-level atom has been studied. By using an analytical calculation and numerical analysis, we find that both one-photon and two-photon blockade effects could be realized in this system by adjusting the parameters of the system. That is, (i) when the four-wave-mixing interaction and the atom-cavity coupling strength are not equal, the system can realize a one-photon blockade; (ii) when they are consistent with each other, the system can realize a two-photon blockade. In addition, we also discuss the influence of different parameters on the photon blockade effect in detail. The results show that the system constructed in this paper not only could enhance the one-photon blockade effect decisively, but also could implement a two-photon blockade easily with a well-designed energy-level structure, and evidently the blockade effect depends on the parameters of the system. All the results may provide theoretical references for single-photon and multiphoton sources or devices in designing future experiments and practical applications.

The photon blockade in a three-wave mixing system coupled with a quantum dot

Tong Mao, Zhihai Yao, Hui Min Yang

Abstract In this paper, the photon blockade effect in a three-wave mixing coupling system with a quantum dot has been studied. By using analytical calculation and numerical analysis, we find that both the conventional photon blockade and the unconventional photon blockade effects could be realized in this system in strong-coupling regime just by one driving. Besides, compared with Jaynes–Cummings model, this hybrid system shows other obvious advantages in realizing the photon blockade, like blockading photon of more different frequencies, stronger antibunching effect. All the results may provide useful theoretical references for the single-photon devices design by using quantum dot and three-wave mixing system in future experiments and applications.

Multiphoton blockade in the two-photon Jaynes-Cummings model

Fen Zou, Xiaoya Zhang, Xun‐Wei Xu +2 more

We study multiphoton blockade and photon-induced tunneling effects in the two-photon Jaynes-Cummings model, where a single-mode cavity field and a two-level atom are coupled via a two-photon interaction. We consider both the cavity-field-driving and the atom-driving cases and find that single-photon blockade and photon-induced tunneling effects can be observed when the cavity mode is driven, while the two-photon blockade effect appears when the atom is driven. For the atom-driving case (the two-photon transition process), we present a criterion of the correlation functions for the multiphoton blockade effect. Specifically, we show that quantum interference can enhance the photon blockade effect in the single-photon cavity-field-driving case. Our results are confirmed by analytically and numerically calculating the correlation function of the cavity-field mode. Our work has potential applications in quantum information processing and paves the way for the study of multiphoton quantum coherent devices.

Photon Blockade in a Jaynes–Cummings Hybrid System With Kerr Nonlinearity

Yuxuan Wang, Shen Zhao, Hui Yang +1 more

We investigate the photon blockade effect in a Jaynes-Cummings hybrid system with Kerr nonlinearity. Specifically, the hybrid system consists of a Jaynes-Cummings model nonlinearly coupled to two other optical modes. Our results, supported by both analytical calculations and numerical simulations, show that strong photon antibunching can occur in this system. Compared with a system without Kerr nonlinearity, the proposed system exhibits a stronger photon blockade effect due to the superposition of unconventional (quantum interference) and conventional (Kerr-induced anharmonicity) blockade mechanisms. Furthermore, we discuss the influences of Jaynes-Cummings coupling and driving strength on the photon blockade. Our findings may contribute to the design and application of single-photon source devices.

Unconventional photon blockade in the two-photon Jaynes–Cummings model with two-frequency cavity drivings and atom driving

Xin 欣 Liu 刘, Meng-Yu 梦雨 Tian 田, Xiao-Ning 晓宁 Cui 崔 +1 more

In a two-frequency cavity driving and atom driving atom-cavity system, we find the photon blockade effect. In a truncated eigenstates space, we calculate the zero-delay second-order correlation function of the cavity mode analytically and obtain an optimal condition for the photon blockade. By including three transition pathways, we find that higher excitations of the cavity mode can be further suppressed and the zero-delay second-order correlation function can be reduced additionally. Based on the master equation, we simulate the system evolution and find that the analytical solutions match well with the numerical results. Our scheme is robust with small fluctuations of parameters and may be used as a new type of single photon source.
