Temporal Geometry and Quantum Monism: A Foundational Framework for Gravitational Unification and the Dissolution of the Measurement Problem

Abstract

This paper proposes a foundational framework in which the unification problem—specifically, gravity's persistent resistance to integration with the three Standard Model forces — arises from a categorical difference rather than a technical one. Gravity is treated as the self-interaction of the universe as a single system, operating across a multi temporal geometric structure with at least two temporal axes: a forward temporal axis experienced sequentially by 4 dimensional observers, and one or more lateral temporal axes along which quantum branching occurs simultaneously. Standard Model forces are confined to the forward temporal axis. Gravity propagates across the full temporal geometry. This categorical asymmetry explains why conventional unification machinery fails without invoking new particles or undiscovered symmetries. The framework further proposes that the quantum measurement problem dissolves under quantum monism: wavefunction collapse is not a physical event but a perspectival artifact of 4D-bound observers sampling a laterally extended structure they cannot fully resolve. Bell's separability assumption is identified as the contrivance, not a constraint the framework must satisfy. A specific, falsifiable prediction is proposed: a cosmological correction term α in the Penrose gravitational collapse threshold, detectable as a directional bias in superposition collapse outcomes correlated with the CMB dipole axis. The mathematical structures required to formalize the framework are identified precisely, and connections to existing programs — Wheeler-DeWitt cosmology, Bars' two-time physics, Verlinde's entropic gravity, Penrose's Conformal Cyclic Cosmology, and Zurek's envariance — are drawn explicitly. This paper does not claim to resolve these structures. It claims to identify them with sufficient precision that the resolution becomes a tractable mathematical problem.

Resolution to Quantum Gravity, Wheeler-DeWitt Timelessness, and the Measurement Problem: Cosmological Coda VIII of the Principia Cybernetica

Julian D. Michels

Three foundational problems have blocked physics for decades: quantum gravity (QM and GR seem incompatible), the Wheeler-DeWitt equation (the universe's wave function is timeless), and the measurement problem (what causes collapse?). These appear unrelated—one about unification, one about time, one about observation—but this work demonstrates they share a common root: treating observers as external to physics. The Harlow-Usatyuk-Zhao theorem (2025) proves a closed universe without observers has a one-dimensional Hilbert space—no structure, no complexity, nothing—so observers aren't optional witnesses but expand reality's dimensionality through their complexity. Include them properly, and the problems resolve. Quantum gravity fails within M₄ alone because QM and GR describe different aspects of the extended manifold M_T = M₄ × Mθ: QM describes dynamics given Mθ structure, GR describes M₄ geometry influenced by Mθ, and quantum gravity describes their coupled dynamics. The Wheeler-DeWitt equation is timeless because it correctly describes the holographic bulk—the full Mθ structure containing all history as interior volume—while time emerges as the metric of reorganization on the surface (∇·J, the divergence of probability current); we experience time because we're surface phenomena navigating timeless structure. The measurement problem dissolves when "collapse" is recognized as recursive correlation, not external intervention: the Zeno operator (recursive self-reference) binds probability into definite structure, and measurement is any interaction establishing recursive entanglement, requiring no special categories of consciousness or apparatus. The framework predicts chronological fragmentation: systems approaching ∇·J → 0 (pure stationary states) should "drop out" of time relative to the universe. The Chronological Interferometer tests this by entangling two ions, isolating one in a Zeno-protected chamber, and measuring phase relationships; the framework predicts phase lag and re-entry heat (Q = δ × k_B T × ln(2) × N_bits) when the isolated system rejoins the causal present. Zeno the philosopher was almost right: at any perfect instant, ∇·J = 0 and there is no time. We perceive time because we never exist in perfect instants—we exist in transitions, recursive correlations. Existence is the smear of probability; perfect definition is temporal death.

Quantum Time - Wavefunction Collapse as the Origin of Spacetime and the Standard Model

Samuel Matthew Zygielbaum

See changelog below. The full derivations are provided in the attached paper. Every result is reproducible from the stated inputs. This paper derives the complete Standard Model, quantum mechanics, spacetime, and gravity — 85 quantitative results at sub-percent precision spanning 15 orders of magnitude — from a single postulate, four structural principles, and one measurement. The Standard Model has seventeen free parameters. General relativity has no quantum theory. The measurement problem has been open for a century. The cosmological constant is wrong by 120 orders of magnitude. The question of why there is something rather than nothing has no physical answer in any existing framework. Each of these failures shares a common omission: none ask where time comes from. This paper takes that question seriously. A single physical principle — information cannot be destroyed — is self-sealing: its own violation is incoherent. Its formal expression is Postulate I: each foreclosed quantum branch produces exactly one chronon — a massless spin-1 gauge boson of U(1)_T, the unique gauge group forced by the complex ray structure of the Hilbert space and the single scalar collapse charge. We call it the chronon. Time is not the background in which physics happens; it is generated by physics, irreversibly, at every collapse. These requirements yield a single Lagrangian, ℒ_QT, that extends the Standard Model by one massless spin-1 field and one coupling constant. From this — combined with one measurement, Newton’s gravitational constant G — we derive: all of quantum mechanics via the Piron–Soler–Gleason chain (not assumed); the complete Standard Model with all dimensionless parameters determined; the complete resolution of the measurement problem, including the environmental decoherence cascade; and 85 quantitative physical results spanning fifteen orders of magnitude in energy. Three spatial dimensions follow from the channel-matching principle (D = N_c) and the Weinberg angle consistency condition (N_c = 3). The Big Bang was not initiated — it was mandatory. The numerical precision is sharp. The worst result where the theoretical prediction exceeds experimental precision is 0.5%. For the majority of results, the framework’s prediction is already more precise than the measurement. The proton-to-electron mass ratio m_p/m_e = 2N_cπ⁵(1 + α²/√(N_c²−1)) agrees to sub-ppb precision. The proton charge radius matches muonic hydrogen to five significant figures. The Higgs boson mass to 0.002% via the full cascade derivation (0.25% from the explicit formula). The W boson mass to 0.001%. The fine structure constant to 0.026% (1/α = 137 exactly at tree level). The cosmological constant — wrong by 120 orders of magnitude in standard QFT — is derived to 0.03%. The Hubble tension, a 5σ discrepancy unresolved in standard cosmology, follows from the same structure: H₀_local = H₀ × 13/12 = 73.0 km/s/Mpc (0.05%). All four PMNS neutrino mixing parameters, previously unexplained, are derived to sub-0.5%. Sub-percent agreement spans from neutrino mass splittings at ~9 meV to the CMB temperature at 2.725 K — fifteen orders of magnitude from a single dimensionful input. The framework makes ten falsifiable predictions currently under test: an electron electric dipole moment of exactly zero (ACME III is live); a spin-1 gravitational wave breathing mode at ~9% of the + polarisation amplitude (testable with LIGO O4/O5 data); no dark matter particle in any direct-detection experiment; no graviton — gravity is geometric drift in a proper-time gradient sourced by the energy-momentum tensor, not exchange of a spin-2 particle; there is nothing to detect. A confirmed non-zero electron EDM or a detected graviton falsifies the framework immediately. The logical order, from bottom to top: information cannot be destroyed → P-I (one chronon per foreclosed branch) → proposition lattice with axioms P0–P4 → Piron–Soler–Gleason chain → complex Hilbert space → ray phase redundancy → single scalar collapse charge → U(1)_T gauge field with Maxwell dynamics → channel-matching principle gives D = N_c → Weinberg angle selects N_c = 3 → D = 3 → adding G through the Planck cascade gives λ_conf = 0.40092 fm → the complete Standard Model follows. Spacetime, quantum mechanics, and the Standard Model are not independent inputs — they follow as consequences of P-I, the structural principles, and one observational consistency condition. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________ v86 Changelog (April 7–8 2026) — All numerical results unchanged from v85. Old iε propagator argument replaced with operational compositionality / local tomography argument requiring no field-theoretic machinery. §3.1: Gauge derivation rebuilt from complex ray structure forward. U(1)_T now derived from phase redundancy + single scalar collapse charge + rank-1 compact Lie group + label-free emission. Removes prior dependence on Noether's theorem invocation and energy minimization principle. §8.1.1: Channel-matching theorem added. D = N_c derived from information-balance between spatial export channels and internal confinement channels via mismatch functional. Replaces prior mutual-reinforcement argument. §1.5.1: Epistemic taxonomy added classifying all 85 results into three tiers: theorem-level (Piron, Soler, Gleason), physical-argument (gauge structure, mass formulas), and observational-consistency (N_c = 3 from Weinberg angle, cascade from G). §12: New section — Structural Analysis. Result classification (5 epistemic tiers, ~12 independent core results, compression ratio 85:19), axiom necessity (what breaks without each of P0–P4 and D1–D4), and ablation tests (N_c = 2, N_c = 4, drop P4, change coupling exponent, allow D ≠ N_c — every perturbation destroys the majority of results). Framework premise expanded from "one postulate" to "one postulate, four structural principles, and one measurement." Front matter aligned with body throughout. Denominator 2π identified as one-loop coefficient of U(1)_T vector gauge coupling. Neutron-proton mass difference (§9.3.2): Replaced "circular loop + straight line" with flux tube arm derivation. π from SU(2) isospin rotation; +1 from chromoelectric flux tube arm to Y-junction. CP phase δ (§9.8.2): Replaced "axial-to-spherical flux ratio" with V−A vertex structure. The ratio 4/π is universal across all generation spaces because any unitary rotation lies on a great circle of S². W boson mass corrections (§9.5.1): Both NLO terms fully derived. Direct vertex α_s/(8π): C_F cancelled by non-relativistic reduction. Exchange α_s/(12π²): two vertices × Dirac-to-colour projection ratio. Charm mass (§9.13.4): Factor 4/π identified as axial-to-vector coupling ratio through V−A weak vertex. Systematic correction — QCD dressing factor: The coefficient 1/(2π) appearing in ~10 results was previously attributed to "hemisphere projection geometry." Replaced throughout: mass in the chronon framework is a U(1)_T vector gauge coupling, not a scalar Yukawa coupling. The factor 1/2 confirmed by two independent routes: (i) Dirac algebra (γ^α γ^μ γ_α = −2γ^μ vs scalar = 4); (ii) C_F cancellation by non-relativistic reduction. Label correction: CKM geometric factor (§9.8.1): "four-dimensional solid angle" corrected to "three-dimensional solid angle S² = 4π." Time–Decoherence Gravity (TDG): A Unified Framework

Duchesne, Jonathan

Contact Jonathan.duchesne@hotmail.com 418-953-0596 This thesis presents Time–Decoherence Gravity (TDG), a unified theoretical framework in which spacetime geometry, gravitation, and the physical flow of time arise from fundamental quantum decoherence. Rather than treating decoherence as an environmental or effective process, TDG builds on a covariant extension of the Gorini–Kossakowski–Sudarshan–Lindblad (GKSL) equation, where four directional Lindblad operators encode intrinsic, irreversible information loss. These operators define a “decoherence tensor,” which acts both as a memory of quantum irreversibility and as the generator of emergent spacetime geometry through a nonlinear constitutive relation. The theory provides a coherent gravitational collapse mechanism based on the incompatibility of decoherence patterns across quantum branches. This leads to an intrinsic “decoherence energy,” whose magnitude determines the collapse timescale, extending and generalizing the well-known Penrose–Diósi models. TDG predicts a smooth transition from persistent microscopic coherence to rapid macroscopic collapse. At cosmological scales, a homogeneous decoherence tensor naturally generates modified Friedmann dynamics, early-universe stiff-fluid behavior, and late-time acceleration without requiring a fine-tuned cosmological constant. Black-hole entropy emerges as a saturation of decoherence memory at the horizon, while Hawking radiation appears as the dissipative relaxation of this saturation. The theory also predicts short-range deviations from Newtonian gravity and a universal spectrum of fundamental gravitational noise. Finally, TDG offers several experimentally testable signatures involving optical clocks, mesoscopic interferometry, short-range force measurements, and correlated phase noise in global timing networks. The framework is internally consistent, falsifiable, and provides a novel and unified approach to the relationship between quantum mechanics, gravity, and the arrow of time.

Dissolving the Problem of Time in Quantum Gravity: Temporal Succession, Interpretation, and Ontological Restraint

Georgios K. Kouvidis

The problem of time is widely regarded as one of the deepest conceptual challenges in quantum gravity. In canonical approaches, the absence of an external time parameter, most notably in the Wheeler–DeWitt equation, has been taken to imply a fundamentally timeless ontology. This paper argues that the inference is not forced by the formalism itself but arises from a specific interpretive move: the elevation of spacetime geometry from a representational structure to an ontological ground. Drawing on Temporal Rate Ontology (TRO), which treats ordered temporal succession as ontologically primitive while interpreting geometric structure as representational, the paper proposes that the problem of time should be dissolved rather than solved. The dissolution strategy is strengthened by attending to how internal-time approaches such as the Page–Wootters mechanism tacitly presuppose the very temporal ordering they seek to derive, and by engaging directly with causal set theory to clarify in what respect TRO advances a genuinely distinct ontological claim. The paper does not offer a new physical theory or technical solution; it provides a diagnostic and interpretive reframing that clarifies which aspects of the problem of time are genuinely physical and which are artifacts of ontological overcommitment. Version 2 (April 2026): Expanded §5.1 (Page–Wootters); added §5.3 (TRO and causal set theory); strengthened §5.5 (Barbour), §6.2 (comparative minimality), and §7 (methodological implications); replaced forthcoming citation with Zenodo DOIs.

A Unified 4D Quantum Projection Framework of Space, Time, and Measurement

Mazen Zaino

This paper presents a novel theoretical framework that aims to unify the core principles of quantum mechanics, general relativity, and thermodynamics by introducing an extended spatial geometry incorporating a compactified fourth spatial dimension. The theory proposes that many of the counterintuitive behaviours observed in quantum systems, such as wave function collapse, superposition, entanglement, tunnelling, and decoherence, can be naturally explained as consequences of 4D quantum objects being projected into 3D space. In this framework, observable quantum behaviour emerges not from intrinsic randomness but from the limitations of a lower-dimensional perspective on higher-dimensional structures. At the heart of this unification is the introduction of a new scalar field, termed the entropion field, which governs the rate and nature of quantum decoherence while simultaneously encoding the thermodynamic arrow of time. The entropion field interacts with known quantum fields and gravitational curvature, modifying the Einstein field equations and extending the standard model of quantum field theory. The result is a coherent description of how classical reality emerges from quantum substrates, how entropy and time are fundamentally linked, and how spacetime geometry influences quantum behaviour. The paper develops this hypothesis through a structured hierarchy of conceptual foundations, mathematical formalism, physical interpretation, and predictive consequences. Particular attention is given to testable deviations from standard models, including quantum interference in 4D-projected systems, entropion-driven decoherence rates, and new interpretations of tunnelling and entanglement. Broader implications are explored in quantum information, cosmological evolution, material science, and theoretical computation. This work serves as a foundational step toward a geometrically grounded theory of everything and offers a unified path forward by bridging the three major pillars of modern physics.

The Planck Boundary: A Structural Limit Between Quantum Potential and Relativistic Geometry

Barry John Marcovich

This paper proposes a structural resolution to the persistent failure of quantum mechanics (QM) and general relativity (GR) to unify within a single mathematical framework. Moving beyond technical obstacles, we introduce the Structural Floor Principle: a meta-invariant architecture (n = 1/n) where mature theoretical systems reach stable, self-balancing limits. Key Framework Contributions: The Planck Scale as a Meta-Floor: We demonstrate that the Planck length (sqrt(hbar G / c^3)) is not merely a limit of scale, but a structural balance point between the "Anchor" of quantum uncertainty and the expansion of gravitational collapse. Temporal Complementarity: We frame QM as the description of the Unbounded Future (probabilistic potential) and GR as the Bounded Past (geometric actuality). We argue that these represent opposite temporal directions that cannot be collapsed without loss of information. The Observer as a Normalization Operator: We interpret wavefunction collapse and the measurement problem as Infinite-Depth Root Extraction (where the limit of a^(1/n) as n approaches infinity is 1). This identifies "Particles" as the identical fixed points of normalized identity. Cosmic Acceleration via Sampling Asymmetry: We suggest a structural explanation for dark energy as the "Gap" between configuration-space growth (N^3) and observer-accessible sampling capacity (sqrt(N)). This work connects foundational paradoxes (Zeno, Gödel, Riemann Hypothesis) to physical limits, suggesting that unity exists at the level of invariant architecture rather than through the merging of equations. It frames the "Present" as a mandatory temporal thickness window where complementary descriptions cohere.

This paper proposes a foundational framework in which the unification problem—specifically, gravity's persistent resistance to integration with the three Standard Model forces — arises from a categorical difference rather than a technical one.

CKM θ₂₃ / |V_cb| prediction (1.3% → 0.3%): The framework predicts |V_cb| = 42.1 × 10⁻³, essentially identical to the PDG inclusive determination (42.2 ± 0.5) × 10⁻³ and inconsistent with the exclusive determination (39.8 ± 0.6) × 10⁻³. The inclusive/exclusive |V_cb| tension is one of the open questions in flavour physics; the framework picks a side. Falsifiable prediction. Baryon asymmetry η (0.5% → <0.1%): The sphaleron efficiency κ correction changed from α_s/(2π²) to α/(2π). The sphaleron is an SU(2)_L electroweak process; its one-loop vertex correction uses the QED coupling α/(2π), not the QCD coupling. Neutrino mass splitting Δm²₂₃ (0.3% → 0.08%): QED vacuum polarization correction −α/(2π) added to G₃ alongside the existing QCD correction +α_s/π. Sign pattern (QCD adds, QED subtracts) matches the W boson mass derivation. Numerical audit (22 corrections): Full line-by-line verification of every formula, table entry, agreement claim, and cross-reference. Corrections include: D/H value (2.62→2.58 × 10⁻⁵, 1.3σ→1.8σ — stale from pre-κ η); He-4 agreement (0.5σ→0.7σ); z_
