Quantum Mechanics as the Boundary Algebra of a Non-Invertible Projection

Abstract

This paper argues that quantum mechanics is not a separate postulate system to be reconciled with spacetime physics. It is the boundary algebra of a non-invertible projection: the algebraic structure that a globally coherent bulk field is forced to produce when it becomes observable. The bulk field is a Majorana spinor, Ξ = CΞ̄, on M^5 = R^4 × S^1(τ), governed by a single conservation law. The projection Π onto the observable boundary is not an external measurement device added afterward: it is the form the field must take in order to admit an observable image at all. What survives Π defines the observable sector; what enters ker Π is lost structurally, not thermodynamically. From this single mechanism, four boundary structures emerge: the Hilbert space of quantum mechanics, physical time, matter stability, and the Born rule. These are four boundary readings of one conservation law, K_τ = ξη = α^−1, resolved by the same tangential dynamics on the invariant surface Σ. Observable states are equivalence classes [Ξ] = Ξ + ker Π. The Born rule is the canonical quadratic probability measure induced by the projection geometry. Measurement irreversibility is the non-injectivity of Π, with non-vanishing protected by the transcendence of π. Physical time is not assumed in advance: it emerges as the output of chiral projection through a conformal map from the compact cyclic fibre to the irreversible real line. The Wheeler–DeWitt equation is not a paradox but the correct timeless description of the bulk. Spacetime emerges after quantum mechanics, not before it. The fine-structure constant is not a free parameter. It is the unique observable residue forced by the self-coherent projection structure. The double-slit interference pattern, the Born rule, and measurement irreversibility are derived as structural corollaries of this paper in the companion work doi:10.5281/zenodo.19654630

Structure from Stability: A Reconstruction of Quantum Form and Its Limits

Valu Eria

For stationary, stable linear systems, quantum form (symplectic form, complex structure, Hilbert inner product) is not a set of external postulates but geometric architecture already carried by the classical action and its flow; read through a local projection, for which decoherence is the explicit candidate, only one postulate remains: that states are sections. The Born measure is not derived here. This is a foundations paper. It adds no new dynamics, and most of its mathematics is known; its contribution is to arrange known results inside one ontology and to check what that ontology can and cannot carry. The ontology has a static space of consistent configurations, a single actualized history, a many-to-one projection Π and a selection operator A, and was proposed to account for quantum structure, the arrow of time and the Born rule. Taking each claim to the smallest system on which it can be computed, we find that the natural explicit candidate for Π, a projection onto locally accessible degrees of freedom, is standard decoherence theory; we do not show that Π must take this form. For linear systems with stable dynamics the quantum structure the ontology presupposes is reconstructed from the classical action: the symplectic form from the boundary term, the complex structure from the flow, and the Hilbert inner product from their combination. Stability of the linearized dynamics, rather than positivity of the action's Hessian, is the condition for quantum form to exist. Given the section postulate, the topological invariants of the ontology become the integrality conditions of geometric quantization; under the preservation assumption of Proposition 1, a dynamics that couples subsystems admits a single value of ħ; and if topology fixes dimensionless constants at all, it can do so only at a boundary, the measured values being images under renormalization-group flow (an illustrated pattern, not a derivation). The hidden sector splits into a gauge part and a temporally accessible part, which exposes a dilemma for structural accounts of irreversibility. A global selection cannot signal under three stated conditions, the central one being that its criterion reads only unconditioned reduced states in the causal past; we conjecture that selection is triggered by redundant environmental records. A hypothesis that the history begins at a regular horizon is tested against the Einstein equations in homogeneous models. Each result is labelled as known, synthesis or conjecture. The code-backed checks are listed in Tables 2–4 and reproduced by the attached scripts (run_all.py, with assertions on the quoted values; tested on Python 3.11/Linux and Python 3.14/Windows). Of the original framework's three predictions, one coincides with standard quantum mechanics in its safe form, one is withdrawn, and one lacks a mechanism and is bounded by binary-pulsar timing. How to check this paper: every result carries a status tag (known / synthesis / conjecture / withdrawn / scoped numerical evidence) collected in the ledger (Table 1). Code-backed claims are listed with their IDs in Tables 2–4. Unzip scripts_v15.zip and run python run_all.py (a few minutes; --rederive also redoes the symbolic Bianchi IX derivation); it asserts the numbers quoted in the text and exits non-zero on any mismatch. Corrections are welcome.

Quantum Mechanics Is a Shadow

Eric McLean

Quantum Mechanics Is a Shadow The Born Rule, the Observer, and the Fourth Dimension Pentagon Physics Programme Paper 37 A two-page paper deriving the Born rule from geometry, without new postulates beyond the self-referential axiom σ = 1/(1+σ) established in earlier papers in this series. The central observation is that a 3D observer is by definition a hyperplane in ℝ⁴. If the physical state space is four-dimensional, measurement cannot be anything other than projection from ℝ⁴ to ℝ³. This is not an analogy or an assumption. It is what observation means for a 3D being in a 4D state space. The question "why is measurement projection?" has no content. The geometry fixes it entirely. From this, the Born rule follows in three steps. The projection identity |proj(v)|² = 1 − v₄² is Pythagoras, a theorem not a postulate. Gleason's theorem forces the quadratic form as the unique self-consistent probability measure on subspaces of dimension ≥ 3. The spherical symmetry of S³ gives the mean Born probability as exactly 3/4, with 1/4 carried in the inaccessible fourth coordinate. The standard quantum mysteries are consequences of observing a 4D geometry from inside three dimensions. Superposition is a 3D description of a definite 4D vertex whose fourth coordinate is inaccessible. Collapse is not a process; it is a definite vertex touching a hyperplane. Wave-particle duality is the same vertex presenting different projections to differently oriented measurement subspaces. Entanglement is shared structure in the fourth coordinate, locally present in the geometry, non-local only from inside ℝ³. The paper is explicit about what it does not claim. It addresses measurement, not dynamics. Interference and complex phases belong to state evolution, a separate problem. The self-referential axiom replaces the Born postulate one-for-one; the gain is that the axiom generates the 600-cell, the dimensional structure, and the probability rule as theorems, where Born's postulate generates nothing. Bell's theorem rules out local hidden variable theories; v₄ is not a local hidden variable. For entangled pairs the correlation is encoded in joint 4D geometry inaccessible to either 3D observer, placing this framework in the same category as Bohmian mechanics. Multi-particle systems are not addressed. And: removing the paradox is not the same as solving the problem. Superposition and entanglement may carry richer structure than the present geometric framework has yet reached. The 600-cell is derived, not postulated, in the E₈ paper (doi:10.5281/zenodo.18901979). The Structural Origin of the Born Rule: Rigidity of the Quantum Probability Exponent

Rodgers, Jeremy

This work provides a structural derivation of the quadratic form of the Born rule in quantum mechanics. Rather than postulating the probability rule as a foundational axiom, the paper proves that the exponent governing quantum probabilities is uniquely fixed by stability, contractivity, and duality requirements imposed on admissible physical laws. The analysis is carried out within a general operator-theoretic and law-space framework, in which physical laws are treated as fixed points of recursive generative dynamics. By combining strict contractive flow (Kappa Law), topological rigidity (Law of Endogenous Constraint), and algebra–geometry duality (Monad Duality), the paper demonstrates that only the Hilbert–Schmidt geometry is compatible with global stability of law evolution. As a consequence, the quadratic probability rule emerges as a rigid structural invariant rather than a free modeling choice. The result implies that any hypothetical modification of quantum theory based on non-quadratic probability rules would necessarily violate at least one of the fundamental structural requirements of admissible physical law, such as uniform contractivity, spectral stability, or duality consistency. This work builds directly on the operator-theoretic resolution of quantum measurement: “A Complete Operator-Theoretic Resolution of the Quantum Measurement Problem” (DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.17823241), and on the generative law framework introduced in: “The Tier-0 Framework and the Everything Equation: A Universal Recursion Law for Physics, Mathematics, and Information” (DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.17813117).See also: The Tier–Omega Monad: Trans-Recursive Completion of the Everything Equation (DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.17859631), which establishes the unique trans-recursive invariant that terminates all possible meta-law recursion and completes the Everything Equation. This work provides the structural boundary underlying the entire framework developed in the associated papers. https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.17864384

Paper XI: Quantum Mechanics as a Geometric Consequence of the Quaternionic Vacuum

Yunus Emre Tikbaş

The complete mathematical structure of non-relativistic quantum mechanics — Hilbert space, canonical commutation relations, the uncertainty principle, the de Broglie relation, the Schrödinger equation, the Born rule, spin-statistics, and quantum entanglement — is shown to be derivable from three geometric axioms: the spatial universe is an S³ hypersurface propagating at velocity c through the quaternionic vacuum H ≅ ℝ⁴, subject to an isoclinic rotation enforced by the extremality condition. Phase space and quantisation of ℏ. The null constraint |v₄| = c forces the phase space to be T*S³. The Hopf fibration S¹ ↪ S³ → S² with first Chern class c₁ = 1 quantises the symplectic flux, determining Planck's constant ℏ as both the minimum symplectic area and the conserved Noether charge of the contact-conformal symmetry. The universality of ℏ — its identical value across all particles and interactions — is proved to be a consequence of the isoclinic condition: only isoclinic rotation preserves the Hopf fibration structure required for symplectic flux quantisation. Five principal results. (i) Born rule. The probability measure |ψ|² arises from marginalisation over the inaccessible Hopf fibre coordinate; it is not postulated. (ii) Quantum entanglement. Entanglement is topological, forced by the universal Hopf linking number lk = 1. (iii) Bell correlations. The correlator E(a,b) = −a·b is a consequence of SO(4) rotational invariance on S³, without hidden-variable supplementation. (iv) Classical–quantum decomposition. Classical physics is the radial projection of the membrane dynamics; quantum mechanics is its rotational projection. The two regimes are not separate postulates but orthogonal projections of a single geometric structure. (v) Quantisation obstruction. The Groenewold–van Hove quantisation obstruction does not apply to S³ because C^∞(S³) = U(su(2)) by the Peter–Weyl theorem; the algebra of observables is globally well-defined. Falsifiable predictions. Two predictions are stated with explicit observational protocols: — No gravitational decoherence: the geometric origin of ℏ implies that gravitational interaction cannot degrade entanglement coherence. Testable with the MAQRO space mission via matter-wave interferometry at mass scales m ~ 10⁻¹⁷ kg over baseline ~ 10³ km. — Perfect Bell correlations at arbitrary separation: the topological origin of entanglement (lk = 1) predicts no geometric suppression of Bell correlations with increasing spatial separation, in contrast to models coupling entanglement to background curvature.

The Born Rule from Configurational Stability: A Timeless Derivation

Ilja Schots

The Born rule, assigning probabilities via |ψ|², is traditionally introduced as an independent axiom of quantum mechanics. Despite its empirical success, its foundational origin remains unresolved. In this paper we derive the Born rule as a necessary consequence of configurational stability in a timeless, pre-metric configuration space. Physical states are described by field configurations Φ, weighted by a stability functional S[Φ]. Quantum states ψ arise as representational coordinates encoding relative stability rather than as ontological wave objects. We show that requiring: projective invariance, factorizability for independent subsystems, and classical additivity under phase degradation, uniquely selects the quadratic probability map |ψ|², without assuming Hilbert space structure, Gleason-type theorems, or temporal dynamics. Measurement is identified as a topological transition at a stability threshold Σ*, where the Hessian spectrum becomes marginally stable. This leads to a distinctive, non-analytic “kink” in decoherence behavior. Unlike stochastic collapse models, the framework predicts pure dephasing without energy injection, avoiding existing experimental heating constraints. The theory yields explicit, falsifiable experimental signatures, including structure-dependent decoherence effects in mesoscopic systems, accessible to current matter-wave interferometry and levitated nanosphere experiments. The framework is fully timeless at the fundamental level; laboratory time emerges only as an epistemic ordering parameter. This work is self-contained and does not rely on gravitational, cosmological, or dark-matter assumptions. Keywords quantum foundations; Born rule; measurement problem; decoherence; timeless physics; configuration space; stability theory; quantum-classical boundary

On the Structural Origin of Quantum Mechanics: A Projection-Based Reconstruction of the Quantum Formalism

Erik Axelkrans

This paper presents a structural reconstruction of the formal core of quantum mechanics fromthe properties of a bounded, linear, distinguishability-reducing projection acting on a generalfunctional space. Effective quantum states are identified with equivalence classes under theprojection ΠQM : H∗ → HQM and the Hilbert-space structure of HQM is induced by a positiveoperator K on the underlying space.Within this framework, the characteristic elements of quantum theory emerge as direct conse-quences of projection geometry and operator structure. Linearity yields superposition, quadraticnorms on equivalence classes give rise to the Born rule, non-factorizability leads to entangle-ment and commuting local algebras ensure no-signalling. Schrödinger-type unitary dynamicsarises from projection of symmetric generators, Dirac-type operators follow from algebraic com-patibility with Clifford structures and violations of classical Bell inequalities together with theTsirelson bound are enforced by operator-norm constraints in the projected C∗-algebra.No hidden variables are introduced and no modification of standard empirical quantummechanics is proposed. Rather than postulating the quantum formalism as axiomatic, theanalysis shows that its defining structures form a highly constrained and stable outcome oflinear projection, equivalence-class geometry, and norm-preserving dynamics.Rather than introducing new physical dynamics, the purpose of this work is to clarify why theestablished quantum formalism admits so little structural freedom once a small set of minimalrequirements is imposed.
