Abstract

This paper proposes a novel hypothesis that neutrinos carry internal information during oscillation. A new model, Oscillation-Based Neutrino Information, introduces an information coefficient λ to the standard neutrino oscillation formula. The study analyzes how short and long distance measurements can indirectly reveal information loss during oscillation. This approach offers a new perspective by combining quantum information concepts with neutrino physics.

Entanglement, decoherence and estimation in neutrino oscillations

Edson C. M. Nogueira

In this work, we studied entanglement and decoherence in neutrino oscillations from a quantum metrology perspective. A summary of the quantum eld theoretic description of neutrinos was done and the main quantum mechanical models were used to analyze the inuence of entanglement and decoherence on the quantum Fisher information related to the mixing angle. We have found that, although in a variety of physical settings there is a positive relationship between entanglement and the quantum Fisher information, this is not the case in the neutrino oscillations scenario. This shows that, at least in single-particle settings, entanglement is not directly related to the optimal estimation in metrological tasks.

Neutrino oscillations in discrete-time quantum walk framework

Arindam Mallick, Sanjoy Mandal, C. M. Chandrashekar

Here we present neutrino oscillation in the framework of quantum walks. Starting from a one spatial dimensional discrete-time quantum walk we present a scheme of evolutions that will simulate neutrino oscillation. The set of quantum walk parameters which is required to reproduce the oscillation probability profile obtained in both, long range and short range neutrino experiment is explicitly presented. Our scheme to simulate three-generation neutrino oscillation from quantum walk evolution operators can be physically realized in any low energy experimental set-up with access to control a single six-level system, a multiparticle three-qubit or a qubit–qutrit system. We also present the entanglement between spins and position space, during neutrino propagation that will quantify the wave function delocalization around instantaneous average position of the neutrino. This work will contribute towards understanding neutrino oscillation in the framework of the quantum information perspective.

Neutrino oscillation measurements computed in quantum field theory

Andrew Kobach, Aneesh V. Manohar, John McGreevy

We perform such a calculation in quantum field theory, where we include simultaneously the source, detector, and neutrino fields in the Hamiltonian. Within the appropriate limits associated with current neutrino oscillation experiments, we recover the standard oscillation formula. On the other hand, we find that the dominant contributions to the amplitude are associated with different neutrino mass eigenstates being emitted at different times, such that they arrive at the detector at the same time. This is contrary to the neutrino wave packet picture, where they are emitted simultaneously and separate as they travel to the detector. This has direct consequences regarding the mechanisms that lead to a damping of neutrino oscillations for very long baselines. Our analysis also provides a pedagogical example of a measurement process in quantum mechanics.

Quantum information meets high-energy physics: probing neutrinos and beyond

Raoul Serao, Gianpaolo Torre, Antonio Capolupo

Abstract This review explores the interplay between quantum information theory and high-energy physics, emphasizing how decoherence effects and unconventional neutrino oscillation patterns may unveil fundamental properties such as the Dirac or Majorana nature of neutrinos and potential CPT violation. It further discusses the use of entanglement measures as novel probes of axion-mediated interactions, outlining interdisciplinary strategies to test the limits of the Standard Model and explore new physics beyond it.

Entropic uncertainty relation in neutrino oscillations

Dong Wang, Fei Ming, Xue‐Ke Song +2 more

Abstract Neutrino oscillation is deemed as an interesting physical phenomenon and shows the nonclassical features made apparently by the Leggett–Garg inequality. The uncertainty principle is one of the fundamental features that distinguishes the quantum world to its classical counterpart. And the principle can be depicted in terms of entropy, which forms the so-called entropic uncertainty relations (EUR). In this work, the entropic uncertainty relations that are relevant to the neutrino-flavor states are investigated by comparing the experimental observation of neutrino oscillations to predictions. From two different neutrino sources, we analyze ensembles of reactor and accelerator neutrinos for different energies, including measurements performed by the Daya Bay collaboration using detectors at 0.5 and 1.6 km from their source, and by the MINOS collaboration using a detector with a 735km distance to the neutrino source. It is found that the entropy-based uncertainty conditions strengths exhibits non-monotonic evolutions as the energy increases. We also quantify the systemic quantumness measured by quantum correlation, and derive the intrinsic relationship between quantum correlation and EUR. Furthermore, we utilize EUR as a criterion to detect entanglement of neutrino-flavor state. Our results could illustrate the potential applications of neutrino oscillations on quantum information processing in the weak-interaction processes.

Wave-particle duality and entanglement in neutrino oscillation

Rajrupa Banerjee, Pratidhwani Swain, Prasanta Kumar Panigrahi +1 more

We investigate wave–particle–entanglement complementarity in three-flavor neutrino oscillations within a quantum information–theoretic framework. By considering three-flavor oscillation along with the possible entanglement between the detector and the propagation states, we extend beyond the usual wave-particle duality and arrive at a more complete triality description involving predictability, visibility, and entanglement. Using reduced density matrices and considering I-concurrence as an entanglement measure, we show that the total information carried by the system is conserved and naturally organized through the relation P 2 + V 2 + E 2 = 1 . While predictability and visibility exhibit the expected complementary behavior, we show that entanglement encodes additional wave-like information that is not captured by visibility alone. We apply our formalism to realistic long-baseline neutrino experiments, namely DUNE and T2K , and find that at the first oscillation maximum, a simultaneous characterization of the particle-like and wave-like nature of neutrinos becomes possible through the combined measurement of predictability and entanglement. Our results provide a unified operational interpretation of neutrino oscillations and highlight the role of quantum correlations in extending wave–particle duality to multipartite systems.
