Highly sensitive compact quantum sensor with NV center in angle-shaped diamond

Yuta Kainuma, Yuji Hatano, Takayuki Shibata +6 more

Magnetometers using ensemble nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers are promising because of their ability to measure magnetic fields in a variety of environments. To achieve high magnetic sensitivity, high collection efficiency of the fluorescence from the NV centers is essential. Due to the high refractive index of diamond, some of the photons from NVs diffuse to the sides of the diamond substrate[1]. In this study, we propose a method to improve the light collection efficiency by polishing the sides of the 12C-enriched chemical vapor deposition (CVD) growth diamond at an angle of 30 degrees and investigating the magnetic sensitivity.

Diamond Quantum Magnetic Sensor toward a Precision Comparison of Currents with a Current Comparator

Hidekazu Muramatsu, Yuta Kainuma, Yuji Hatano +11 more

In this paper, a diamond nitrogen-vacancy (NV) magnetic sensor toward a precision comparison of currents with a current comparator is described. A diamond quantum sensor can sensitively detect magnetic fields based on the Zeeman effect of the electron spin state of NV centers, which may be used as a detector in a current comparator. The compact diamond quantum sensor head has been developed, being capable of positioning in an air gap formed in a ring-shaped magnetic core. The sensor exhibited the DC magnetic noise floor of less than $100\,{\text{pT}}/\sqrt {{\text{Hz}}} $. The obtained magnetic noise floor is less than equivalent current noise level required for a current comparator.

Compact and portable pulsed measurement module using diamond NV centers

Hiroshige Deguchi, Tsukasa Hayashi, Hiroya Saito +6 more

Abstract We developed a compact, portable quantum sensor module for pulsed measurements using diamond nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers, an excitation laser diode of 3 mW and a microwave source of 15 dBm. This module allowed the evaluation of ensemble diamond NV centers for measuring magnetic fields by continuous wave— optically detected magnetic resonance (ODMR), Rabi oscillation, pulsed ODMR, Ramsey measurement and spin-echo measurement. The sensitivity through pulsed measurements reached 40 nT/ Hz at 1 Hz, which achieved higher sensitivity by one order, especially at a frequency around 1 Hz compared with previously reported compact modules using diamond NV centers.
