Abstract

Using the Bethe ansatz method and generalized hydrodynamics (GHD), properties of the spin transport is analyzed for the integrable XXZ chain with the anisotropy 0 ≤ ∆ < 1.Our approach starts from reconstructing the thermodynamic Bethe ansatz (TBA) equations for the integrable XXZ chain with arbitrary spin.We obtain the fusion hierarchy of the quantum transfer matrices (T -functions) in the arbitrary spin case, and we derive functional relations (T -and Y -systems) satisfied by the T -functions and certain combinations of them (Y -functions).Through analytical arguments, the Y -system is reduced to a set of non-linear integral equations, equivalent to the TBA equations. At first, we use the TBA equations for some higher-spin chains in order to examine the regular zero frequency contribution to the spin current correlation (spin dc conductivity) for the spin-1/2 XXZ chain. In the high temperature limit, we write down the dressed scattering kernels by one quasi-particle bare energies and exactly obtain the spin dc conductivity at zero magnetic field, which is proportional to the inverse temperature β at the β → 0 limit. We find that the high temperature proportionality constant σ reg 0 of the spin dc conductivity is discontinuous at all rational numbers of the anisotropy parameter p 0 = π/ cos -1 ∆ ≥ 2 with the gap increasing larger than the second power of growing magnetization on one quasiparticle. The isotropic ∆ = 1 point is exceptional.Close to this point, σ reg 0 slowly increases in proportion to the first power of the one quasi-particle magnetization. On the other hand, σ reg 0 is proportional to the second power of the same when p 0 approaches irrational numbers. At second, we examine the finite-temperature spin Drude weight for the integrable XXZ chain with arbitrary spin, where GHD methods are employed. We calculate the spin Drude weight at zero magnetic field, and we find a characteristic fractal-like structure of the Drude weight at arbitrary spin across a broad range of temperatures, similar to the spin-1/2 case.In our approach, the solutions to the TBA equations (i.e., the Y -functions) can be explicitly written in terms of the T -functions, thus allowing for a systematic calculation of the hightemperature limit of the Drude weight, as well as the spin dc conductivity in the spin 1/2 case. Infinite temperature spin dc conductivity of the spin-1/2 XXZ chain

Abstract Using the Bethe ansatz method and the thermodynamic Bethe ansatz equations for the higher-spin integrable XXZ chain, the regular zero frequency contribution to the spin current correlation (spin dc conductivity) is analyzed for the spin-1/2 XXZ chain with the anisotropy 0 ⩽ Δ < 1 . In the high temperature limit, we write down the dressed scattering kernels by one quasi-particle bare energies and exactly evaluate the spin dc conductivity at zero magnetic field, which is proportional to the inverse temperature β at the β → 0 limit. We find that the high temperature proportionality constant σ 0 reg of the spin dc conductivity is discontinuous at all rational numbers of the anisotropy parameter p 0 = π / cos − 1 ⁡ Δ ⩾ 2 with the gap increasing larger than the second power of growing magnetization on one quasi-particle. The isotropic Δ = 1 point is exceptional. Close to this point, σ 0 reg slowly increases in proportion to the first power of the one quasi-particle magnetization. On the other hand, σ 0 reg is proportional to the second power of the same when p 0 approaches irrational numbers.

Spin Drude weight for the integrable XXZ chain with arbitrary spin

Shinya Ae, Kazumitsu Sakai

Abstract Using generalized hydrodynamics (GHD), we exactly evaluate the finite-temperature spin Drude weight at zero magnetic field for the integrable XXZ chain with arbitrary spin and easy-plane anisotropy. First, we construct the fusion hierarchy of the quantum transfer matrices (T-functions) and derive functional relations (T- and Y-systems) satisfied by the T-functions and certain combinations of them (Y-functions). Through analytical arguments, the Y-system is reduced to a set of non-linear integral equations, equivalent to the thermodynamic Bethe ansatz (TBA) equations. Then, employing GHD, we calculate the spin Drude weight at arbitrary finite temperatures. As a result, a characteristic fractal-like structure of the Drude weight is observed at arbitrary spin, similar to the spin-1/2 case. In our approach, the solutions to the TBA equations (i.e. the Y-functions) can be explicitly written in terms of the T-functions, thus allowing for a systematic calculation of the high-temperature limit of the Drude weight.

Infinite temperature spin dc conductivity of the spin-1/2 XXZ chain

Shinya Ae

Using the Bethe ansatz method and the TBA equations for the higher spin integrable XXZ chain, the regular zero frequency contribution to the spin current correlation (spin dc conductivity) is analyzed for the spin-1/2 XXZ chain with an anisotropy $0 \le Δ<1$. In the high temperature limit, we write down the dressed scattering kernels by one quasi-particle bare energies, which allows the exact evaluation of the infinite temperature spin dc conductivity $\mathcal{L}$. We find that $\mathcal{L}$ is discontinuous at all rational numbers of the anisotropy parameter $p_0=π/\cos^{-1}Δ$ in the region $p_0 \ge 2$ with the gap increasing larger than the second power of growing magnetization on one quasi-particle. The isotropic $Δ=1$ point is exceptional. Close to this point, $\mathcal{L}$ slowly increases in proportion to the first power of the magnetization. On the other hand $\mathcal{L}$ is proportional to the second power of the magnetization when $p_0$ approaches irrational numbers.

The spin Drude weight of the XXZ chain and generalized hydrodynamics

Andrew Urichuk, Yahya Oez, Andreas Klümper +1 more

Based on a generalized free energy we derive exact thermodynamic Bethe ansatz formulas for the expectation value of the spin current, the spin current-charge, charge-charge correlators, and consequently the Drude weight. These formulas agree with recent conjectures within the generalized hydrodynamics formalism. They follow, however, directly from a proper treatment of the operator expression of the spin current. The result for the Drude weight is identical to the one obtained 20 years ago based on the Kohn formula and TBA. We numerically evaluate the Drude weight for anisotropies \Delta=\cos(\gamma) Δ = cos ( γ ) with \gamma = \pi n/m γ = π n / m , n\leq m n ≤ m integer and coprime. We prove, furthermore, that the high-temperature asymptotics for general \gamma=\pi n/m γ = π n / m —obtained by analysis of the quantum transfer matrix eigenvalues—agrees with the bound which has been obtained by the construction of quasi-local charges.

Bethe-Boltzmann hydrodynamics and spin transport in the XXZ chain

Vir B. Bulchandani, Romain Vasseur, Christoph Karrasch +1 more

The anomalous nature of spin transport in the XXZ quantum spin chain has been a topic of theoretical interest for some time. Here, the integrability of the underlying dynamics leads to a ballistic component of the spin current, characterized by a spin Drude weight, which measures the degree of divergence of the zero-frequency spin conductivity. However, this quantity had previously proven to be beyond the reach of standard Bethe ansatz techniques. Here, the authors show that a recently developed hydrodynamic formalism for quantum integrable models may be used to compute the spin Drude weight. They also propose a numerical scheme to obtain hydrodynamic predictions for finite-time energy transport. This suggests that the hydrodynamic approach captures completely the ballistic component that dominates transport at long times and distances in the gapless regime of the XXZ model.

Bethe Ansatz and boundary energy of the open spin-1/2 XXZ chain

Rajan Murgan

We review recent results on the Bethe Ansatz solutions for the eigenvalues of the transfer matrix of an integrable open XXZ quantum spin chain using functional relations which the transfer matrix obeys at roots of unity. First, we consider a case where at most two of the boundary parameters {{$\\alpha_-$,$\\alpha_+$,$\\beta_-$,$\\beta_+$}} are nonzero. A generalization of the Baxter $T-Q$ equation that involves more than one independent $Q$ is described. We use this solution to compute the boundary energy of the chain in the thermodynamic limit. We conclude the paper with a review of some results for the general integrable boundary terms, where all six boundary parameters are arbitrary.
