Quantum Fuzzy Sets Revisited: Density Matrices, Decoherence, and the Q-Matrix Framework

Mirco A. Mannucci

In 2006 we proposed Quantum Fuzzy Sets, observing that states of a quantum register could serve as characteristic functions of fuzzy subsets, embedding Zadeh's unit interval into the Bloch sphere. That paper was deliberately preliminary. In the two decades since, the idea has been taken up by researchers working on quantum annealers, intuitionistic fuzzy connectives, and quantum machine learning, while parallel developments in categorical quantum mechanics have reshaped the theoretical landscape. The present paper revisits that programme and introduces two main extensions. First, we move from pure states to density matrices, so that truth values occupy the entire Bloch ball rather than its surface; this captures the phenomenon of semantic decoherence that pure-state semantics cannot express. Second, we introduce the Q-Matrix, a global density matrix from which individual quantum fuzzy sets emerge as local sections via partial trace. We define a category QFS of quantum fuzzy sets, establish basic structural properties (monoidal structure, fibration over Set), characterize the classical limit as simultaneous diagonalizability, and exhibit an obstruction to a fully internal Frobenius-algebra treatment.

On Symmetric Sets of Projectors for Reconstruction of a Density Matrix

Alexander Yu. Vlasov

In this work are presented sets of projectors for reconstruction of a density matrix for an arbitrary mixed state of a quantum system with the finite-dimensional Hilbert space. It was discussed earlier [quant-ph/0104126] a construction with (2n-1)n projectors for the dimension n. For n=2 it is a set with six projectors associated with eigenvectors of three Pauli matrices, but for n>2 the construction produces not such a `regular' set. In this paper are revisited some results of previous work [quant-ph/0104126] and discussed another, more symmetric construction with the Weyl matrix pair (as the generalization of Pauli matrices). In the particular case of prime n it is the mutually unbiased set with (n+1)n projectors. In appendix is shown an example of application of complete sets for discussions about separability and random robustness.

Constraint Cascades and Decoherence: A Formal Perspective on Quantum Measurement

Thanh Minh Nguyen

We develop a formal extension of the constraint cascade framework by connecting it with the density matrix formalism and decoherence theory in open quantum systems. In this perspective, sequences of constraint operations are modeled as completely positive quantum maps acting on density matrices, progressively suppressing coherence through cascade-like dynamics. Under suitable contractive conditions, repeated application of such maps leads to the decay of off-diagonal density matrix elements, producing projection-like behavior as an effective emergent limit. This framework suggests that quantum measurement may be interpreted not as a single instantaneous collapse, but as a structured sequence of physical operations coupled with decoherence processes. The proposed approach remains phenomenological and conceptual rather than fully dynamical. Its purpose is not to introduce a new quantum theory, but to provide a structural language connecting quantum operations, decoherence, and effective projection behavior within a unified cascade-based viewpoint. This work further develops the conceptual foundations that later evolved into the Adaptive Constraint Cascade (ACC) framework and its emphasis on continuous structural transitions between effective physical regimes.
