This case study applies the Variety Dynamics (VD) analytical framework to foundational questions in physics and mathematics. It develops three related claims. First, varieties are informatic descriptions of reality — distinguishable options, states, decisions, or events — not the physical things they describe, and this distinction resolves persistent confusions in the foundations of physics including the quantum measurement problem. Second, quantum measurement, prediction, and physical theory are all informatic variety space operations; the wave function exhibits three modes of existence of which one — independent ontological status — is false; and the measurement problem dissolves when the informatic character of varieties is consistently maintained. Third, VD's variety space concept operates at the same foundational level as set theory and is arguably prior to it, since set theory's foundational operation of element distinguishability presupposes variety as an unnamed pre-formal primitive, and all specific physical state spaces (Hilbert space, phase space, Fock space) are special cases of variety space characterised by forgetful functors in the categorical sense. The case study also develops the connection between variety space and pre-sheaf structure in higher topos theory, where the variety-to-actualisation transition corresponds to sheafification. The analysis draws on the RaQM transaction cost argument established in Love (2026a) and provides evidence for Axiom 47's claim that VD operates at a more foundational level than physical theories. Axioms applied: 9, 25, 26, 32, 47, 48, 57 (in development).

The measurement problem of quantum mechanics is predominantly treated in contemporary foundations research as an unresolved problem of dynamics or ontology. Accordingly, dominant solution approaches aim either at additional collapse mechanisms (e.g., GRW-type models), at ontological branching (Many-Worlds interpretations), or at an information-theoretic reinterpretation of state and measurement. The present contribution advances a different thesis. It shows that, despite their methodological differences, these approaches share a common categorical presupposition: they treat the transition from possibility to facticity as an intra-worldly describable occurrence—whether as a dynamical process, an ontological splitting, or a state update. It is precisely this presupposition that is called into question here.Starting from an ontological distinction between possibility and facticity, it is argued that measurement cannot be understood as a temporal event within an already structured world. Rather, it marks a boundary at which temporal, processual, and informational descriptions lose their applicability. The transition to objectivity is therefore not an explainable event, but an irreversible restriction of the space of possibility, through which world becomes factically binding in the first place.Against this background, dynamical collapse models, Many-Worlds interpretations, and information-theoretic ontologies are comparatively analyzed. The aim is not a refutation of these approaches, but a precise boundary determination: it is shown in what way they each provide formally successful answers to partial aspects of the measurement problem, while at the same time presupposing the categorical status of facticization that they claim to explain. The contribution does not understand itself as an alternative interpretation of quantum mechanics, but as an ontological clarification of its domain of validity. It proposes that the measurement problem should no longer be treated as the search for a hidden mechanism, but as an indication of a structural boundary of physical description itself.
This paper is a conceptual and interpretive companion to "The Dynamics of Discrete Fact: A Phase-Transition Theory of Wavefunction Collapse" (doi:10.5281/zenodo.18748601), which develops a phase-transition theory of wavefunction collapse in full mathematical detail. The interpretive claims made here rest on the physical model established there. The paper identifies a structural conflation at the root of the quantum measurement problem. The standard formulation treats measurement simultaneously as a physical process and as an experiential event without distinguishing between the two. We formalize this distinction as two complementary descriptive frames — a Reality Frame (F_R) for the continuous dynamics of the system–apparatus field, and an Observer Frame (F_O) for the discrete outcomes recorded by an embedded observer — connected by a calculable critical threshold γ_c derived from the companion paper's phase-transition model. The frame distinction is applied to the three sub-problems of measurement, to five foundational paradoxes (Wigner's friend, Frauchiger–Renner, Schrödinger's cat, delayed choice, and EPR), and to seven major interpretations of quantum mechanics, each shown to privilege one frame while neglecting the other. A Frame Complementarity Principle is conjectured as a testable constraint on the simultaneous accessibility of process information and outcome definiteness.
This manuscript presents a conservative mathematical framework investigating whether observable multiplicity and distinguishability in physical theories can emerge from a more primitive, undifferentiated starting point. A singular foundational state SSS is defined as a minimal-ontology entity lacking internal partitions, while interpretation operators III are introduced as structural maps that induce differentiated state spaces M=I(S)M = I(S)M=I(S). The paper develops the formal properties of these operators using moderate operator algebra, category theory, and structural analysis, and situates the framework alongside established programs in quantum reconstruction, operator-algebraic foundations, information-theoretic approaches, and relational quantum mechanics. Connections are drawn between interpretive non-commutativity and contextuality, and between induced multiplicity and the emergence of classical state identity in measurement theory. This is an exploratory theoretical contribution intended to motivate further mathematical development. It does not propose empirical modifications to quantum mechanics, but provides a structural model for understanding how distinctions, state-space geometry, and observable outcomes may be generated rather than postulated. The framework may have relevance for foundational studies in quantum information, measurement, generalized probabilistic theories, and the structure of operator families underlying physical state differentiation.
This case study applies the Variety Dynamics (VD) analytical framework to the quantum computational ceiling proposed by Rational Quantum Mechanics (RaQM; Palmer, PNAS 2026). VD provides a structural explanation of the predicted ceiling that is independent of RaQM's gravitational discretisation argument, arriving at the same limit via the exponential and combinatorial scaling of transaction costs associated with maintaining quantum variety distributions in a physical substrate. In the limit, these transaction costs resolve to thermodynamic and geometric costs — the configuration-dependent stored resource associated with space-time curvature induced by the matter-energy arrangement of the substrate. The convergence of two independent analytical routes on the same structural prediction constitutes cross-framework support for the quantum computational ceiling. The analysis also provides evidence for Axiom 47 of the VD framework, which proposes that VD operates at a more foundational analytical level than physical theories. Axioms applied: 9, 25, 26, 28, 35, 36, 47, 48. This paper (PP-09) establishes the ontological foundations of META Physics (M.E.T.A.: Multi-dimensional Emergence Theory of Actuality) — the philosophical axioms, conceptual classifications, and mathematical structures underlying the framework that derives the ORIGIN of physical phenomena from the uniform rotation of B⁴(R). Key results, all derived with zero free parameters: (I) Primacy of Substance Axiom (PSA): Substance precedes measurement, observation, and relation. Measurability ≠ Being. This axiom opposes relational ontologies. (II) Trichotomy of Physical Quantities: Property (observer-invariant, substance-intrinsic: mass, charge, spin, α, centripetal acceleration) / Attribute (substance-attributed, observer-dependent: energy, momentum) / Relation (frame-only: velocity, position, force). (III) Dimension Emergence: θ = 90° is the unique collision angle preserving radius and closure, producing a 2D disk with constitutive uniform rotation. The ontological leap — substance first possesses a Property (centripetal acceleration) — occurs at two dimensions. (IV) Time as Measurement Concept Dimension (MCD): Time is neither substance nor property but a counting structure generated by projecting intrinsic rotation ω₀ onto a lower-dimensional substratum. The arrow of time originates from ω₀'s fixed directionality. (V) Zero-Dimensional Indefiniteness (不定): Configuration space C_a = N≥1 × Z × [0,1] ≠ Hilbert space. No superposition, no Born rule, no collapse. Stacking number N(a) = Radon-Nikodym derivative dμ/dμ₀. (VI) Uncertainty Principle ORIGIN: Δx·Δp ≥ h/4π expresses viewpoint incompatibility (quantum VP vs continuum VP), with 4π topologically fixed by π₁(SO(3)) = Z₂. (VII) Quaternionic 3+1 Separation: The canonical Re/Im decomposition of quaternion algebra H, combined with DRAIN w-elimination, yields 3 spatial + 1 temporal dimensions. Fractional time (1/3 + 1/3 + 1/3 = 1) originates from the i,j,k isomorphism. (VIII) Conservation Law ORIGINs: Energy conservation traces to the SO(3) automorphism invariance of Im(H). Complete Noether-ORIGIN correspondence table derived. (IX) Complete Gravity ORIGIN Chain: quaternion imaginary axes → fractional time → MCD → stacking-number inhomogeneity N(a) → temporal curvature g₀₀ = −c²/N² → Newtonian gravity. (X) Fractional Charge = Coordinate Membership Ratio: Q = (number of disk's coordinates in (x,y,z)) / dim(WS₃) = 2/3 (Up) or 1/3 (Down). Zero free parameters. 34 established results (ER-1 through ER-34) derived and catalogued. PP-09 is the final installment of the META Physics preprint series (PP-00 through PP-09, 10 papers total). Canon basis: MP-CANON-v2.2. Contribution Statement: Mathematical formalization and documentation by Claude (Anthropic, Claude Opus 4.6). Core insights, physical intuitions, ontological classifications, and the axiom system originate from the author's 30 years of independent research.
Foundational paradoxes continue to persist in modern physics despite the remarkableempirical success of established theories. These paradoxes do not arise from failed predictionsor mathematical inconsistency, but from recurring conceptual tensions across quantummechanics, gravity, cosmology, and questions of identity, causality, and emergence. This paper examines twenty-four well-known paradoxes spanning these domains andproposes a unified resolution strategy. The analysis is methodological rather than technical:no new dynamics, particles, or forces are introduced, and no modifications to establishedformalisms are required. Instead, the paradoxes are shown to arise from a systematicconflation of descriptive levels, in which constructs native to effective theories are tacitlytreated as ontologically fundamental.By interpreting established theories as projection-level descriptions constrained by domain-specific validity, the paradoxes admit concise and uniform resolutions. Across all cases, themathematical frameworks remain intact; what changes is the interpretation of their ontologicalreach. The recurrence of this resolution pattern across independent and historically distinctparadoxes provides strong support for an ontological distinction between generative structureand effective physical description, articulated here in a deliberately restrained form. The resulting perspective reduces, rather than inflates, ontological commitments whilerestoring conceptual coherence across domains that are otherwise treated in isolation. Withoutspecifying the detailed nature of the generative level, the analysis establishes a unifiedinterpretive framework within which many longstanding foundational problems lose theirforce
