Universal Field Theory: An Ontological Interpretation of Quantum Mechanics

Abstract

This paper proposes Universal Field Theory (UFT), an ontological interpretation of quantum mechanics in which the Universal Field is taken to be a real structure containing all physically possible configurations permitted by the laws of physics. Observable physical reality corresponds to the subset of configurations that become realized as excitation patterns within the field. In this framework, quantum probabilities arise from the density of realizable configurations encoded in the wave structure of the field. The approach preserves the predictive formalism of quantum mechanics while offering a unified conceptual interpretation linking field ontology, configuration space, and the emergence of physical reality.

A Field-First Interpretation of Wave-Particle Duality

Srikar R

This preprint presents a field-first interpretation of wave-particle duality grounded in the ontology of Quantum Field Theory (QFT). The framework treats quantum fields as the fundamental ontology of physical reality, while particles are understood as excitation states of their respective fields. Wave-like phenomena, including interference, diffraction, tunneling, and coherence effects, are interpreted as arising from the propagation and interaction dynamics of these excitations rather than from an independent wave ontology. The central thesis is that wave-particle duality does not represent two distinct physical realities, but rather different observational regimes of a single field-based process. Localized interactions appear particle-like, while propagation and interference phenomena appear wave-like. This interpretation is fully consistent with the existing mathematical formalism of Quantum Field Theory and does not introduce new physical laws or modifications to established quantum mechanics. The purpose of this work is interpretive and conceptual. It aims to provide a clearer ontological framework for understanding the relationship between quantum fields, particles, and wave-like behavior while reducing the conceptual ambiguity traditionally associated with wave-particle duality. This document represents the initial preprint release of the field-first interpretation framework.

Light, Correlation, and the Emergence of Reality. An Ontological Interpretation of Quantum Fields

Manfred Albert Hörz

This article presents an ontological interpretation of quantum fields, arguing that light and correlation form the foundational processes through which physical reality emerges. By shifting the focus from particle‑based metaphysics to relational and field‑based structures, the work explores how coherence, interaction, and the dynamics of correlation generate the phenomena we describe as ‘reality’. The article integrates conceptual analysis with insights from quantum field theory to propose a unified ontological framework.

A Three–Dimensional Ontological Formulation of Bohmian Mechanics

Pablo Yepes

We present a three-dimensional field ontology for Bohmian mechanics in which the single-particle wave functions defined in ordinary physical space are taken as ontological elements alongside particle positions. In this view, each particle is associated with a wave function in three-dimensional space conditioned on the actual positions of the remaining particles. The universal wave function on configuration space is retained within the formalism, but its role is interpreted as nomological: it determines the coupled evolution of the three-dimensional fields without itself being treated as a fundamental physical field. The corresponding evolution equations for the conditioned three-dimensional wave functions follow from the standard Bohmian formalism and, together with the guidance equation, yield dynamics fully equivalent to those of the conventional theory. The empirical and predictive content of Bohmian mechanics is thereby preserved, while its ontological structure is expressed in explicitly three-dimensional terms. Within a ψ-ontic perspective, this proposal makes explicit an ontological organization of Bohmian mechanics in which the dynamical fields are defined on physical space. While fully equivalent to the conventional formulation, expressing the theory in these terms may facilitate interpretation, visualization, and pedagogical presentation.

Quantum Incompleteness: An Ontological Interpretation of Quantum Mechanics Based on Irreversible Constraint

Darren Cudd

Quantum Incompleteness presents an ontological interpretation of quantum mechanics in which physical systems are objectively under-specified prior to irreversible interaction. The theory rejects hidden variables, parallel worlds, and observer-dependent collapse, proposing instead that definite outcomes emerge through irreversible information-theoretic constraints that physically exclude alternatives. The wavefunction is treated as a real but non-material structural entity that defines the space of admissible outcomes rather than pre-existing values. Measurement, entanglement, classical definiteness, and the arrow of time are unified under a single completion mechanism grounded in thermodynamic irreversibility, while preserving the standard mathematical formalism of quantum mechanics. This work is empirically equivalent to standard quantum theory and is intended as a foundational clarification of what quantum mechanics describes rather than a modification of how it computes predictions.

The quantum field theory interpretation of quantum mechanics

de la Torre, Carlos Alberto

It is shown that adopting the \emph{Quantum Field} ---extended entity in space-time build by dynamic appearance propagation and annihilation of virtual particles--- as the primary ontology the astonishing features of quantum mechanics can be rendered intuitive. This interpretation of quantum mechanics follows from the formalism of the most successful theory in physics: quantum field theory.

A Two-State Ontological Model of Reality: Pre-Actualization, Actualization, and the Physics of Emergent Holographic Order

Cory Keller

A Two‑State Ontological Model of Reality introduces the conceptual foundation underlying the Actualization Dynamics research program. This paper develops a unified ontological framework in which reality emerges from a primordial informational substrate that exists in two operational modes: Pre‑actualized Reality, a maximally symmetric, zero‑entropy information manifold containing all possible configurations, and Actualized Reality, a finite, stable holographic code space selected by informational coherence. The transition between these modes is formalized through a stationary‑phase condition applied to an Informational Action defined on the Fisher‑metric information manifold. By integrating ideas from information geometry, holographic entanglement entropy, quantum error‑correcting codes, and an ontological path integral, the paper argues that Actualized Reality is the unique, self‑consistent solution that preserves reconstructibility and error‑correctability.Key contributions include:• A formal definition of Pre‑actualized and Actualized Reality• The role of the Cleaning Lemma as an ontological selection rule• The derivation of an Informational Planck Constant from the Bekenstein–Hawking entropy bound• A stationary‑phase interpretation of the universe as an informational interference pattern• A structural resolution of the measurement problem• A falsifiable prediction of oscillatory non‑Gaussianities in the CMB arising from holographic interferenceThis document serves as the conceptual and philosophical foundation for the technical results presented in Actualization Dynamics I, II, III, and the Unified Informational Field Theory. It is intended as the “Chapter 0” of the series, providing the ontological motivation and interpretive framework for the mathematical formalism developed in subsequent papers.
