The Quantum Measurement Problem — the absence of any physical mechanism by which deterministic, unitary Schrödinger evolution transitions into a discrete, probabilistic classical outcome — remains the central open problem in the foundations of quantum mechanics. While environmental decoherence explains the suppression of quantum interference, it does not explain why or when a single outcome is realized. This paper resolves the measurement problem within the Algorithmic Theory of Reality (ATR). By treating the universe as a finite-bandwidth information-processing architecture, we demonstrate that wavefunction collapse is not a mystical observer effect, but a mandatory thermodynamic memory-management protocol. Key Results: The Collapse Threshold: We prove that when a microscopic superposition entangles with a macroscopic apparatus, the entanglement entropy grows until the local Bennett-Landauer processing cost exceeds the local holographic energy budget. This forces a non-unitary state truncation. Quantitative Timescale: The derived threshold yields a quantitative collapse timescale (τc) that mathematically matches the experimentally observed decoherence time. Derivation of the Born Rule: Given pointer-state orthogonality (from decoherence), we rigorously derive the Born Rule (pi = |ci|2) by formulating the forced state truncation as a constrained thermodynamic optimization problem that minimizes the Kullback-Leibler divergence (algorithmic information loss). Scale Unification: The exact same Bennett-Landauer limit that dictates the macroscopic boundaries of the universe (Dark Energy) and galaxies (the MOND scale) is shown to govern the microscopic limits of quantum coherence. The ATR framework mathematically determines when collapse must occur, with what statistics, and in which basis, reducing the single-outcome problem to a single, structurally necessary axiom (the Lüders update). Supplementary Material: The algebraic derivation of the Born Rule (via KL-divergence minimization and Lagrange multipliers), the exponential growth of entanglement entropy, and Monte Carlo statistical validations are independently reproducible via the companion computational verification script, available at: https://github.com/srdrymn/atr-verify-wavefunction-collapse

Abstract For over a century, theoretical physics has treated General Relativity and Quantum Mechanics as fundamentally incompatible: one posits a continuous, deterministic spacetime manifold; the other, a discrete, probabilistic Hilbert space. The Algorithmic Reality Model (ARM) resolves this schism by identifying a single computational mechanism—the Zeno Threshold (Zα)—as the universal bound governing both quantum collapse and spacetime geometry. ARM treats physical reality as the macroscopic projection of a finite-bandwidth computational substrate operating on a timeless, pre-geometric state (the Singleton). By enforcing Landauer's principle of irreversible erasure, ARM derives the entirety of the gravitational sector from seven pre-geometric, quantum informational axioms. Key Derivations & Unifications Emergent Spacetime: Spatial geometry emerges from the Quantum Fisher Information Metric (QFIM) of the observer's state space, while time emerges from the Tomita-Takesaki modular flow. The Lorentzian signature (-,+,+,+) is algebraically forced by the compact/non-compact structure of their isometry generators. The Holographic Scalar (The 3→1 Unification): Applying the Nyquist-Shannon sampling theorem to the holographic boundary yields the exact Bekenstein-Hawking factor of 1/4 as a universal 2D anti-aliasing limit. This simultaneously fixes the area-law coefficient and structurally derives Newton's constant as G = c3ξmin2 / ℏ. Systematic Boundary Deviations: The framework quantitatively resolves macroscopic anomalies as computational resolution limits. Dark energy emerges as the minimum Landauer maintenance cost of the cosmological event horizon, and the MOND acceleration scale (a0) emerges as a thermodynamic noise floor, algebraically locked by the structural identity a02 = (8πG/3)ρΛ. Thermodynamic State Truncation: Wavefunction collapse, the black hole information paradox, and EPR non-locality are rigorously unified as manifestations of the computational substrate's finite Landauer memory budget. Computational Computability Because ARM is built on discrete informational axioms rather than continuous manifolds, the entire framework is natively computable. The structural derivations in this paper—including emergent geodesic lensing, the Bekenstein-Hawking threshold, and the MOND noise floor—have been explicitly verified via sparse Hermitian lattice simulations. Abstract: The quantum measurement problem has been the deepest conceptual difficulty since the birth of quantum mechanics. Standard quantum mechanics accepts wavefunction collapse as an independent postulate but never provides a physical explanation. The decoherence approach attributes collapse to the interaction between the system and its environment, but faces two fundamental limitations: the “infinite regress” problem and the “insufficiency of decoherence” problem. Within the framework of the Self-Construction Theory (SCT), this paper provides a complete resolution of the measurement problem. The core thesis is that quantum measurement is not a fundamental process independent of the laws of physical evolution, but rather a local manifestation of constructive renormalization—the scale evolution of the spacetime complex field K from microscopic degrees of freedom to macroscopic effective descriptions. The origins of wavefunction collapse, decoherence, and the Born rule receive a unified first‑principles interpretation in this framework. SCT’s spontaneous decoherence mechanism is the key to the resolution. Constructive renormalization inherently involves information loss—the integrated‑out microscopic degrees of freedom no longer exist in the macroscopic effective description. During a measurement, the measuring apparatus possesses a huge number (∼1023) of microscopic degrees of freedom. When the apparatus interacts with the measured system, constructive renormalization triggers information compression of these degrees of freedom—the apparatus can no longer distinguish which branch of the superposition it is in, and quantum coherence is thus spontaneously lost. No “external environment” is needed—the constructive renormalization dynamics of spacetime itself is the ultimate source of decoherence, thereby completely solving the “infinite regress” problem. Among the probability distribution given by the Born rule, the weights of non‑maximal probability branches are further suppressed by information compression under the huge number of microscopic degrees of freedom, so that macroscopic observers can perceive only a definite outcome in the effective description. The information loss caused by constructive renormalization is ontological—it does not rely on any approximation or truncation, thus fundamentally solving the “insufficiency of decoherence” problem. The Born rule—that measurement outcomes occur with probabilities given by the squared amplitudes—is directly derived from the constructive integral structure in SCT. In the constructive renormalization limit, interference terms between different configurations are naturally suppressed by off‑diagonal phase randomization, and the system automatically switches to a classical probabilistic description. In the diagonal density matrix representation, the squared amplitude is the only natural weight that is simultaneously real and non‑negative. Hence the Born rule is not an additional postulate of quantum mechanics but a necessary and unique manifestation of the relative frequencies of the constructive integral in the constructive renormalization limit. This derivation is rigorous within the mathematical framework of constructive renormalization—it does not rely on any approximations or truncations. SCT’s quantum measurement theory is deeply unified with the black hole information paradox. The “collapse” in quantum measurement and the “information loss” in black hole evaporation are different manifestations of the same core mechanism—the redistribution of information due to constructive renormalization—in two extreme physical situations. In quantum measurement, information is redistributed into the degrees of freedom of the macroscopic apparatus; in black hole evaporation, information is redistributed into the time‑point configurations on the horizon. This unification is the strongest proof of the universality of constructive renormalization as an information‑processing mechanism. Abstract The quantum measurement problem—the absence of any dynamical mechanism connecting continuous wavefunction evolution to discrete empirical outcomes—has persisted since the foundations of quantum theory. Decoherence explains interference suppression but cannot explain outcome selection: the diagonal density matrix remains an improper mixture until one outcome is actualized. We propose that collapse is a physical phase transition in the coupled system–apparatus field. The order parameter ψ, constructed as a coarse-grained collective coordinate of apparatus degrees of freedom, evolves under Ginzburg–Landau dynamicswith a symmetry-breaking potential. When the coherence pressure γ exceeds a critical threshold γc, the symmetric phase(superposition) becomes unstable and the field crystallizes into one of the discrete stable minima (eigenstates). We derive the critical coupling from microscopic system–apparatus Hamiltonians, obtaining γc ∼ (√Ng)−1 where N is the number of apparatus degrees of freedom and g is the coupling constant. This scaling explains why macroscopic apparatus collapse wavefunctions while microscopic interactions preserve coherence. The Born rule Pn = |cn|2 is preserved through this dynamical selection mechanism: attractor basin geometry under probability-conserving flow converts probabilistic weights into definite outcomes without altering the underlying probabilities. The theory yields four falsifiable predictions absent from standard quantum mechanics: critical slowing near γc, hysteresis in the collapse–recoherence cycle, metastable supercooled superpositions, and transient Jacobian spikes at the moment of collapse. We provide quantitative estimates for superconducting qubit readout, predicting collapsetimes of order 100 ns with critical slowing observable within current experimental precision. This framework provides a concrete existence proof, within a controlled effective-theory regime, that collapse dynamics can be constructed from standard quantum mechanics plus statistical mechanics, requiring no modification to the Schr¨odinger equation.
The quantum measurement problem has persisted largely because standard formalisms require the insertion of an external observer to collapse the wavefunction. This leaves physics without a kinematic mechanism for the actual transition from a continuous superposition to a discrete outcome. We propose here that wavefunction collapse functions as a deterministic thermodynamic phase transition, forced via the finite processing memory of the spatial vacuum. Operating within the Symbiotic Infodynamic Equilibrium (SIE) framework, we model the macroscopic vacuum as a discrete, finite-capacity Face-Centered Cubic (FCC) relational graph. A quantum superposition is evaluated here as an unformatted data-routing state distributed across this lattice. We show that maintaining this coherent spatial distribution imposes a linear infodynamic memory burden on the substrate. As the spatial extent or the mass of the superposed system increases, this informational burden intersects with the intrinsic holographic capacity of the localized state. Setting this microscopic capacity (S_cap proportional to M^-2) equal to the macroscopic Bekenstein-Hawking entropy (S_BH proportional to M^2) derives a first-principles boundary for quantum behavior (M_cut = m_P / sqrt(2)). We structurally redefine observation not as a conscious act of measurement, but as an entanglement-driven mass transfer. When a microscopic system interacts with a macroscopic apparatus, the aggregate mass penalty breaches the local bandwidth limit of the vacuum, thereby forcing a deterministic formatting of the state. This infodynamic bandwidth saturation yields explicit spatial (delta x_max proportional to M^-3) and temporal limits for objective reduction, while predicting a falsifiable discrete Landauer thermal purge detectable via macroscopic optomechanical interferometry.
This paper has been updated by https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.20279031 This paper resolves the measurement problem and the problem of intersubjectivity—two foundational puzzles of quantum mechanics—within the Planck Core Framework, without requiring any additional postulates beyond the three axioms of the framework. I prove that measurement is not a mysterious non-unitary "collapse" of the wavefunction, but a unitary process of entanglement establishment between subsystems of the quantum bit network. The apparent collapse arises from the observer's limited access to the full entanglement structure: what we perceive as a definite measurement outcome is simply our location within a specific entanglement branch. The Born rule is derived, not postulated—the probability of an outcome is proportional to the number of entanglement threads in the corresponding branch. The Wigner's friend paradox is resolved by proving that different observers may occupy different branches, but their descriptions converge when they exchange information via entanglement. I further introduce the concept of the "information eye"—a hypothetical direct entanglement sensor—and prove that any macroscopic biological organism operating at biological temperatures will inevitably perceive a decohered, classicalised representation of reality, not the underlying quantum information network itself. The classical appearance of the macroscopic world is thus derived as a contingent consequence of thermodynamic constraints on biological evolution, not a fundamental feature of reality. This work completes the derivation of quantum mechanics from the Planck Core Framework, establishing that no special measurement postulate is required.
This preprint presents a complete and fully operator-theoretic resolution of the quantum measurement problem. Including collapse, the Born rule, the uniqueness of outcomes, and the irrelevance of observersm derived entirely from a universal structural principle called the lawhood identity. Rather than adding new physics, modifying the Schrödinger equation, introducing hidden variables, invoking many-worlds branching, or appealing to consciousness, this work shows that quantum measurement is a direct, unavoidable consequence of a general fixed-point law that applies to all stable physical systems. When instantiated for quantum mechanics, this law forces every genuine superposition to fail the criteria for being a physically lawful state. Collapse is not an extra postulate: it is structurally mandatory. Key results include: • The No-Superposition Theorem: All superpositions are proven to be structurally unlawful; they cannot survive the measurement map.• Mandatory Collapse: Collapse emerges automatically from the composition of three physical operators (boundary, decoherence, and closure), without modifying quantum dynamics.• Derivation of the Born Rule: The familiar probabilities arise uniquely from the internal consistency of the measurement operators. No additional assumptions, decision theory, or symmetry arguments are required.• Observer Independence: Awareness and measurement are formally separated. Collapse is a physical, observer-independent process; knowledge acquisition is epistemic, not causal.• Uniqueness of Outcomes: The framework proves that there is only one stable classical outcome for any initial quantum state, directly resolving the many-worlds branching issue.• Experimental Signatures: The formulation predicts measurable relationships involving entropy, decoherence rates, and effective dimensionality. This paper shows that the puzzles of quantum collapse, superposition, outcome selection, probability, and the apparent role of observers, are not mysteries requiring new interpretations. They are the natural consequences of a deeper structural principle that governs all lawful physical systems. Quantum mechanics, under this lens, becomes a specific case of a universal operator identity that determines which states can persist as stable reality. Readers will find a complete, logically self-contained argument, with theorems and proofs written in a way that does not rely on philosophical interpretation or speculative assumptions. The result is a clear and testable framework that resolves a problem that has persisted since the birth of quantum theory. This work is part of a broader research program developing the universal Tier-0 lawhood framework and the “Everything Equation,” which unifies stability, collapse, and fixed-point structure across physics, computation, thermodynamics, and information. Relation to Tier-1 dynamical formulation: This work develops a law-level (structural) resolution of quantum measurement. A complementary Tier-1 dynamical realization of these structural principles, formulated entirely within a constrained operator framework and independent of law-level recursion language, is developed in: J. Rodgers, Saturation Geometry and the Structural Emergence of Measurement and the Born Rule in a Capacity-Constrained Dirac–Λ System, Zenodo (2026).https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.18704783 The Tier-1 formulation may be read independently and provides a concrete operator-theoretic instantiation of the structural mechanisms discussed here.
