Experimental Communication Through Superposition of Quantum Channels

Arthur O. T. Pang, Noah Lupu-Gladstein, Hugo Ferretti +3 more

Information capacity enhancement through the coherent control of channels has attracted much attention of late, with work exploring the effect of coherent control of channel causal orders, channel superpositions, and information encoding. Coherently controlling channels necessitates a non-trivial expansion of the channel description, which for superposing qubit channels, is equivalent to expanding the channel to act on qutrits. Here we explore the nature of this capacity enhancement for the superposition of channels by comparing the maximum coherent information through depolarizing qubit channels and relevant superposed and qutrit channels. We show that the expanded qutrit channel description in itself is sufficient to explain the capacity enhancement without any use of superposition.

Communication advantage of quantum compositions of channels from non-Markovianity

Jian Wei Cheong, Andri Pradana, Lock Yue Chew

The combined use of quantum channels can grant communication advantages in the form of enhancements to communication capacities. One such channel composition is the quantum switch, which implements a system with indefinite causal order by coherent control of the orderings of two or more quantum channels, resulting in enhanced communication capacities. Here, using the monogamy relation, we studied the flow of entanglement monotone in these quantum compositions of channels in the environmental representation. We implemented the two-party quantum switch in this framework, and demonstrated that non-Markovianity is the source of revival of the entanglement monotone in this setup. The possibility and amount of revival was shown to depend on the entangling capability of the channels, and the perfect activation of coherent information with entanglement-breaking channels was also replicated with the perfect revival of entanglement monotone. Additionally, we showed that a more general non-Markovian circuit can still grant enhancements to coherent information and Holevo quantity without the presence of indefinite causal order.

Communication Enhancement through Quantum Coherent Control of N Channels in an Indefinite Causal-Order Scenario

Lorenzo M. Procopio, Francisco Delgado, Marco Enríquez +2 more

In quantum Shannon theory, transmission of information is enhanced by quantum features. Up to very recently, the trajectories of transmission remained fully classical. Recently, a new paradigm was proposed by playing quantum tricks on two completely depolarizing quantum channels i.e., using coherent control in space or time of the two quantum channels. We extend here this control to the transmission of information through a network of an arbitrary number N of channels with arbitrary individual capacity i.e., information preservation characteristics in the case of indefinite causal order. We propose a formalism to assess information transmission in the most general case of N channels in an indefinite causal order scenario yielding the output of such transmission. Then, we explicitly derive the quantum switch output and the associated Holevo limit of the information transmission for N = 2 , N = 3 as a function of all involved parameters. We find in the case N = 3 that the transmission of information for three channels is twice that of transmission of the two-channel case when a full superposition of all possible causal orders is used.
