Emergence of the Born Rule from Discrete Node Dynamics

Abstract

We propose a discrete, node-based framework in which quantum mechanics emerges as a continuum approximation of underlying update dynamics. Fundamental entities are nodes related by causal update relations, with no probabilistic postulate assumed at the microscopic level. Transition amplitudes are assigned as minimal two-dimensional internal degrees of freedom, while observations correspond to coarse-grained node densities. We show that the Born rule is not a fundamental axiom but an inevitable quadratic statistical form arising from phase elimination, σ-additivity, and non-contextuality in the continuum limit. The Schrödinger equation appears as an effective generator of near-identity node updates, and probability measures are uniquely fixed by information‑geometric consistency. This framework reinterprets quantum theory as a shadow of discrete node dynamics rather than a primary description of reality.

The Born Rule From First Principles A Geometric Derivation via Dimensional Marginalization and Topological Constraints

Koenig, Andy, Karma

AbstractThe Born rule—assigning quantum probabilities as —remains a postulate in standard quantummechanics. Despite numerous attempts (Gleason's theorem, decoherence, envariance, decision theory), noderivation has eliminated the need for an additional probabilistic axiom. This paper presents a geometric derivationof the Born rule from three minimal principles: (1) physical states are complex linear fields, (2) reality includes anunobservable scale dimension , and (3) observers are restricted to fixed-scale hypersurfaces. Under theseconditions, the unique operational density consistent with linearity, conservation, and phase invariance is thequadratic form . Marginalizing over unobservable scale degrees of freedom yields . Under scale-localization or scale-decoherence, this reduces to , reproducing the Born rulewithout assumption. If the ultraviolet limit of the manifold is a compact genus- surface, topological constraintsproduce structured statistical signatures: for , a 138-mode periodic correction emerges, providing afalsifiable experimental prediction. Measurement is reinterpreted as dimensional projection, not wavefunctioncollapse. Quantum probabilities arise as geometric shadows of deterministic higher-dimensional dynamics. Keywords: Born rule, quantum probability, dimensional flow, marginalization, scale space, genus, quantumfoundations, measurement problem Full Theory Portfolio at: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1fdKdo3edGqXVx95IntIumXlzKq22s-yw?usp=drive_link

The Born Rule and Hilbert Space Emergence from ℓ¹ Phase Averaging

JEREMY H. CARROLL

This paper shows how the L2 norm underlying the Born rule arises as a phase-invariant quadratic observable when linear spectral representations are applied to discrete systems governed by L1 structure. Rather than assuming Hilbert space geometry, the result demonstrates how quadratic probability emerges from a combination of discrete combinatorics, linear representation, and phase invariance. The central result establishes that, given an underlying L1 causal structure, a linear spectral representation of states, and invariance under phase rotations, the expected observable magnitude under uniform phase averaging reduces to a sum of squared amplitudes. This recovers the L2 norm and yields the Born rule after normalization. Within this framework: Discrete systems are modeled using L1-based combinatorial structure Observers introduce linear complex representations of these systems Phase variables act as unobservable degrees of freedom and are averaged using a uniform invariant measure Cross-terms cancel under phase averaging, leaving a purely quadratic observable This provides a structural explanation for why quantum probability takes a quadratic form. The result can be interpreted as a consequence of Parseval-type identities applied under phase invariance, rather than as an independent postulate. The paper includes: A formal derivation of the quadratic observable from phase averaging A proof that only the quadratic (p = 2) measure preserves underlying combinatorial volume Numerical validation demonstrating consistency with Parseval identity Simulations reproducing standard interference behavior and norm preservation A construction showing compatibility between defect-based dynamics and Schrödinger-type evolution under additional assumptions The work does not attempt a full derivation of quantum mechanics. Instead, it establishes how L2 structure and Born-rule probabilities arise naturally from discrete L1 systems when represented in a linear spectral form with phase invariance. This result connects discrete geometry, harmonic analysis, and quantum probability, and provides a bridge between combinatorial models and continuous Hilbert space representations.

03 - Emergence of Quantum Mechanics and Born Measure from a Coherence-Driven TwoField Discrete Framework

Enrico Ferrero

This series presents a structured and logically sequential formulation of a discrete informational framework governed by global coherence constraints. Although it originates from the same research program developed in the earlier exploratory preprint series (P-series), the works presented here constitute an autonomous and self-contained series, organized in a progressively axiomatic form and focused on the explicit derivation of the framework’s effective structures. The goal of the construction is to investigate whether structures commonly associated with quantum mechanics, thermodynamics, and geometry may emerge from a discrete relational substrate without being introduced as fundamental postulates. Each article addresses a specific level of the theoretical derivation and forms part of a progressive logical structure based on results established in the preceding works of the series. This article develops the emergence of Hilbert-space structure and Schrödinger-type effective dynamics from the coherent two-field sector established in Paper 02. The work demonstrates that the global coherence constraints imposed on the discrete informational substrate naturally generate an effective complex representation endowed with linear superposition properties and unitary-preserving evolution. The analysis shows that the two-component coherent sector admits a mathematically stable reformulation equivalent to a Hilbert-space structure, and that the effective evolution of the coherent amplitudes leads to a Schrödinger-type dynamical equation without introducing quantum mechanics as an initial assumption. The article further derives the probabilistic interpretation associated with the effective amplitudes and clarifies how quantum-like statistical behavior emerges from the internal coherence conditions of the underlying discrete system. No quantum postulates are assumed at the foundational level. The purpose of the article is to demonstrate that the formal structures associated with quantum mechanics can emerge as effective consequences of coherence-preserving informational dynamics. The article does not assume quantum mechanics as a foundational theory and does not postulate the Hilbert-space formalism a priori. Instead, the work demonstrates that, within the internal hypotheses and coherence constraints of the proposed discrete informational framework, structures mathematically equivalent to Hilbert-space representations and Schrödinger-type evolution can arise as effective emergent descriptions. The purpose of the derivation is therefore not to reproduce standard quantum mechanics by assumption, but to show that quantum-like formal structures may consistently emerge from deeper coherence-preserving informational dynamics.

Emergent Quantum Regimes from Decoherent Projections

Iker Ibarrola Echeverría

We present an emergent account of quantum theory based on a minimal correlational framework in which no fundamental states, dynamics, or probabilistic axioms are assumed. Quantum behavior arises from admissible decoherent projections that induce equivalence classes of correlational configurations and suppress relational phase information. Effective quantum states are identified with these equivalence classes, while probability emerges as a normalized structural measure over them. The Born rule is recovered as a consistency condition associated with linear representations of equivalence classes, and measurement is reinterpreted as a structural interaction defined by projection rather than as a physical collapse. Decoherence, probability, and classicality are unified as manifestations of restricted access to correlational information stabilized by persistence. Quantum theory is thereby situated as an emergent, regime-dependent description alongside propagation and gravitation, resolving its conceptual puzzles by demoting its formal elements from fundamental postulates to effective constructs.

Reinterpreting the Physical Mechanism Behind Born's Scattering Interpretation: From Continuous Wave-Packet Propagation to Discrete Detector Events

Kaisheng Li, Longji Li

Born's statistical interpretation of quantum mechanics transformed the wave function from a dynamical object into a quantity whose squared modulus determines the probability distribution of measurement outcomes. Since the formulation of the Born rule in 1926, the relation between a continuously evolving quantum state and discrete detection events has remained one of the central conceptual questions of quantum theory. This paper proposes a physical reconsideration of that relation. Rather than treating the appearance of a localized detection event as an immediate consequence of wave-function collapse, we distinguish two physically different stages: continuous wave-packet propagation and discrete detector readout. In the first stage, a localized wave packet evolves through an interaction potential and undergoes phase reconstruction, deflection, focusing, or redistribution. In the second stage, the continuously distributed wave amplitude interacts locally with microscopic detector degrees of freedom, producing discrete detection events. The central hypothesis explored here is that the experimentally observed distribution of individual events may arise from a local detector-response functional acting on the incident wave amplitude. In an appropriate regime, a detector response of the form \[R(\mathbf{x}) \propto |\psi(\mathbf{x})|^2\]could emerge from the microscopic interaction between the wave packet and the detector, rather than being imposed as a primitive probabilistic postulate. The paper does not claim a completed derivation of Born's rule. Instead, it identifies the physical assumptions that such a derivation would require, relates them to historical electron-scattering experiments, and formulates a concrete research program for deriving the observed quadratic detection law from wave amplitude, energy transfer, phase structure, and microscopic detector dynamics.
