We propose a minimal discrete model in which causality, time, spacetime geometry, and quantum measurement emerge from a single primitive concept: the node (boundary). A node is defined as an irreversible completely positive (CP) map representing interaction simultaneity—the fundamental unit where states undergo non-unitary transformation. Conventional causality is reconceptualized as a chain of such nodes connected by reversible propagation. Time is not an external parameter but the cumulative count of nodes; temporal flow velocity is proportional to node density. We demonstrate that Minkowski spacetime emerges as the continuum limit of a node network, with gravitational curvature arising from spatial gradients in node density. The quantum measurement problem dissolves naturally as nodes represent the only loci of irreversibility. We derive testable predictions for gravity-induced decoherence independent of gravitational phase shifts, offering clear falsifiability. This framework unifies gravity, quantum mechanics, thermodynamics, and temporal phenomenology through a single ontological primitive: the event itself.

We propose a unified framework in which quantum measurement, the arrow of time, and effective gravitational phenomena emerge from a single ontological primitive: irreversible interaction events. An event is represented operationally by a non-invertible completely positive, trace-preserving (CPTP) map, while unitary evolution and spacetime geometry are treated as effective, emergent descriptions. Time arises as a partial order induced by irreversible state-restricting events, and gravitational time dilation emerges from spatial variations in event density. An Event Equivalence Principle is introduced, according to which gravitational effects manifest universally as a rescaling of event occurrence rates, independent of particle mass. The framework yields falsifiable predictions for gravity-induced decoherence and is shown to be consistent with existing experimental bounds.
We develop an event-based extension of quantum theory in which irreversible interaction events are taken as physically primary, and apply this framework to the emergence of time and effective gravitational behavior. An event is defined as a non-invertible completely positive, trace-preserving (CPTP) map acting on quantum states. Unitary dynamics are treated as an effective interpolation between events rather than as fundamental evolution. Time is defined as a partial ordering induced by irreversible events, while continuous time arises as a coarse-grained limit at high event density. We introduce event density as an operational quantity governing both decoherence and temporal accumulation, and show that spatial gradients of event density naturally give rise to effective gravitational time-dilation phenomena. No new force laws, spacetime curvature, or quantum gravity dynamics are postulated. Instead, gravity and time are shown to emerge as scale-dependent descriptions arising from irreversible event structure. The formulation is compatible with standard quantum mechanics, open-system dynamics, and general relativity in their respective domains, while clarifying the physical role of irreversibility in linking quantum theory and spacetime descriptions.
The quantum measurement problem arises from a structural asymmetry in standard formulations of quantum mechanics: while unitary evolution is treated as fundamental, irreversible events are introduced only through ad hoc postulates. As a result, measurement, decoherence, and probability appear conceptually disconnected. In this work, we propose a minimal reformulation in which irreversible interaction events are taken as ontological primitives. An event is defined as a completely positive, trace-preserving map that is not equivalent to any unitary transformation. Unitary evolution emerges as an effective description valid between events. Within this framework, quantum measurement is not a special process but a particular class of irreversible events with outcome-resolving structure. The Born rule arises naturally from the statistical structure of event realizations, and environmental decoherence is reinterpreted as a high density of irreversible events. No collapse postulate, observer-dependent rule, or modification of quantum dynamics is required. This formulation provides a unified and physically grounded resolution of the measurement problem and establishes a conceptual foundation for event-based extensions connecting quantum theory with spacetime and gravity.
Description This work presents a process-based quantum framework in which causality, gravity, time, and three-dimensional space emerge from discrete quantum processes (P-tacts). A P-tact is defined as a minimal unit of quantum evolution combining a local superposition operation and an entangling unitary transformation. The global dynamics of a system is described as a graph of P-tacts, where causal order, branching, and relational structure arise intrinsically, without introducing an external time parameter. The framework demonstrates that causal branching appears first, followed by emergent quantum gravity as an effect of entanglement density and network connectivity. From this structure, relational time emerges as a discrete sequence of P-tacts, and only at later stages does three-dimensional space arise from the global topology of the process graph. Space, time, and gravity are thus shown to be mutually emergent properties of a single discrete quantum process network. This work directly builds upon the previously published concept of the quantum switch as an emergent process structure from discrete P-tacts (see Ref. [1]) and extends it toward a unified description of spacetime emergence. The formalism provides a concrete realization of Everettian branching, making the many-worlds interpretation operational and graph-theoretic. The proposed framework connects quantum information theory, indefinite causal order, quantum gravity, and emergent spacetime, offering both conceptual clarity and experimental relevance. It is applicable to quantum switches, multi-qubit entanglement, quantum networks, and quantum simulations, and provides a testable route toward understanding spacetime as a derived structure rather than a fundamental background. Abstract The ontological status of time remains unresolved in fundamental physics. In quantum mechanics, time appears as an external classical parameter, whereas in general relativity it is dynamical and intertwined with spacetime geometry. Canonical approaches to quantum gravity, most notably the Wheeler–DeWitt formulation, eliminate time altogether, leading to the well-known “problem of time.” These tensions motivate frameworks in which time is not fundamental but emergent. In this work, we propose a discrete, update-based framework in which the universe evolves through a sequence of global quantum states indexed by an abstract update parameter rather than by a physical time coordinate. Evolution is formulated as a completely positive, trace-preserving (CPTP) quantum channel acting on the universal density operator, ensuring exact conservation of probability and global quantum information at every update. The framework is deliberately conservative: it preserves the formal structure of quantum mechanics and quantum field theory, enforces vacuum stability, and supports global conservation laws without introducing new dynamical postulates. Within this setting, time emerges relationally at the level of subsystems. As subsystems become increasingly entangled with their environments, entropy gradients arise that define an effective arrow of time, closely aligned with the thermodynamic arrow. The resulting temporal flow is relative, statistical, and observer-dependent, while the global evolution remains information-preserving and, in the closed-system limit, reversible. We explore the implications of this framework for cosmology and black hole physics. The Big Bang is reinterpreted as an initial quantum state rather than a singular beginning of time, avoiding temporal singularities. Black hole evaporation is shown to be compatible with unitary evolution when the full quantum state is considered, naturally reproducing the expected Page curve and resolving the apparent information paradox. Overall, the framework provides a coherent, minimal setting in which time, irreversibility, and cosmological history emerge from quantum correlations rather than from a fundamental temporal background.
Abstract This paper proposes that time is not a fundamental dimension of reality but an emergent property generated through a specific causal chain originating in a quantum gravitational mechanism not yet fully characterized by existing physics. There is no universal t = 0 in an absolute sense. There is only a threshold at which the quantum gravitational mechanism begins to generate motion, and time becomes applicable within a localized system only after that threshold is crossed. The central chain of inference is as follows: the quantum gravitational mechanism generates motion; motion generates new distinguishable information states; time is the ordered accumulation of those information states; and because information cannot be destroyed in the ontological sense proposed by this framework, the temporal sequence is irreversible by structural necessity rather than by thermodynamic probability. This four-step chain is not merely a restatement of existing physics in new language. It provides a mechanistic basis for the arrow of time, a physical account of wave function collapse, a structural explanation for the ontological threshold at quantum measurement, a reframing of the QM/GR incompatibility, a structural consequence for time travel impossibility within the framework’s own ontology, a predicted structural basis for the Hubble tension, an ontological resolution of quantum information scrambling — identifying apparent scrambling not as a property of the information itself but as an artifact of the outside-in observational position encountering the statistical surface of an internally ordered generative record that remains perfectly traceable from the inside-out perspective — and a precise reframing of the photon proper time paradox, identifying the τ = 0 result not as experiential simultaneity but as the expected mathematical signature of a massless particle operating at the c boundary condition of the emergent temporal domain where derived temporal measures are structurally inapplicable — each as a consequence of the same single ontological principle rather than as separately introduced claims. The fact that a single ontological principle generates resolutions to problems that physics has treated as unrelated for decades is not coincidental. It is the kind of convergent explanatory structure that has historically accompanied correct foundational claims — and the experimental program described here is designed to determine whether this framework earns that status. The ontology advanced here is referred to as Generative Inscription: the view that ordered time is the downstream accumulation of irreversibly inscribed state distinctions generated by motion from an upstream quantum-gravitational source. This framework advances toward operational unity by introducing a time-generation scalar field χ encoding the local density of irreversible information state generation per unit of action, a coupling constant κmotion defining the relationship between kinetic energy flux and information state generation rate, a phase transition model for the ontological threshold, a formal discriminator (ℛtot) bounding apparent thermodynamic time reversal against an absolute ontological record burden, candidate scaling laws for experimental signatures in fusion plasma diagnostics, a modified Friedmann equation incorporating geometric temporal asymmetry, and a defined set of minimal admissibility conditions formalizing the quantum gravitational mechanism as a constrained generator class rather than an unspecified placeholder. The primary coordinate is shifted from standard time t to Action S, with t emerging as a derived parameter, so that the mathematical structure reflects the ontological hierarchy this proposed framework claims. The framework employs an action-parameterized tangent vector rather than the standard four-velocity, separates coupling constants by operational scale, and adopts the Maupertuis formulation of action as the primary coordinate from which time derives. The framework is explicitly differentiated from related prior work by Wiltshire, Barbour, Vaccaro, and Brukner. Two cosmological predictions follow structurally from the core ontology: χ field convergence nodes at cosmic web filament intersections produce qualitatively distinct temporal environments, and gravitational wave events constitute propagating χ field disturbances with testable quantum measurement correlatives. Recent experimental observation of superluminal optical vortex motion provides an empirical glimpse of the distinction this framework draws between the generating mechanism’s operational level and the emergent temporal domain c governs. The experimental program described in Section 6 is not separate from the theory. It is the proposed inside-out crucible by which the framework would be falsified or strengthened through sustained nuclear fusion plasma diagnostics operating at stellar-interior conditions as should become available as fusion reactor technologies reach operational status within the next 10 to 20 years.
