Homogeneity of Space-time Implies the Free Schrödinger Equation

Gao Shan

The free Schrodinger equation is shown to be a consequence of space-time homogeneity in the non-relativistic domain. First, we show that space-time translation invariance of natural laws, which is a conseqiuence of space-time homogeneity, entails that the state of a free particle with definite momentum and energy assumes the plane wave form when the time evolution of the state is linear. Next, we show that the conservation of energy and momentum, which is a consequence of space-time translation invariance, may further determine the energy-momentum relation In the non-relativistic domain. These results then lead to the free Schrodinger equation naturally. The new integrated analysis may help understand the origin of the wave equations in quantum theory.

Stochastic electrodynamics for the free particle

Luis de la Peña, A. Jáuregui

The theory of stochastic electrodynamics is applied to the free particle and to the particle moving in a homogeneous field, leading to a complete temperature- and time-dependent description in phase space. After a transient time, the marginal description in configuration space coincides entirely with quantum mechanics, while the phase-space description is only mathematically related to the Wigner distribution. The Schrödinger equation appears as a natural—though incomplete—means of describing the statistical behavior of the electron under these conditions.

Nonlinear Schrödinger Equations and the Separation Property

Gerald A. Goldin, George Svetlichny

We investigate hierarchies of nonlinear Schrödinger equations for multiparticle systems satisfying the separation property, i.e., where product wave functions evolve by the separate evolution of each factor.Such a hierarchy defines a nonlinear derivation on tensor products of the single-particle wave-function space, and satisfies a certain homogeneity property characterized by two new universal physical constants.A canonical construction of hierarchies is derived that allows the introduction, at any particular "threshold" number of particles, of truly new physical effects absent in systems having fewer particles. In particular, if single quantum particles satisfy the usual (linear) Schrödinger equation, a system of two particles can evolve by means of a fairly simple nonlinear Schrödinger equation without violating the separation property.Examples of Galileian-invariant hierarchies are given.
