Why Particles Exist: Survival-Conditioned Discreteness from the Noneness Boundary

Abstract

Why does nature organize itself into discrete, persistent structures rather than dissolving into continuous, transient fluctuations? While modern physics successfully describes how particles behave, it largely presupposes their existence. In this work, we address the more fundamental question of why particle-like structures exist at all.Building on Time-Scalar Field Theory (TSFT) and its associated domain-of-validity constraint, we show that discrete particles emerge as a consequence of survival-conditioned evolution. Forward propagation in time is not guaranteed: configurations that approach the Noneness boundary—where temporal density vanishes—encounter divergent costs and effectively terminate. As a result, only a sparse set of configurations that minimize temporal leakage while preserving functional coherence can persist. We formalize this selection principle as a constrained variational problem and demonstrate that its discrete minimizers—which we term rivet modes—naturally exhibit particle-like stability and quantization without postulation. We further show that the same mechanism appears across scales, from quantum eigenstates and composite quasiparticles to biological survival strategies and macroscopic system evolution. Recent experimental observations of anomalously enhanced exciton transport near Mott insulating transitions are discussed as empirical manifestations of survival-conditioned path selection. Together, these results suggest that particles are not fundamental primitives, but the minimal survivable answers to the question of continued existence.

Froggle's Dilemma II: Survival-Conditioned Choice Dynamics Under the Noneness Boundary - Choice-Field Topology and Viability-Constrained Utility in Time-Scalar Field Theory (TSFT)

Jordan Gabriel Farrell

In Why Particles Exist: Survival-Conditioned Discreteness from the Noneness Boundary, TSFT was used to show that forward propagation is conditional: trajectories approaching the Noneness boundary (ρΘ → 0+) incur divergent temporal cost and effectively terminate, motivating a viability floor ρΘ ≥ ϵ > 0 and a constrained variational principle selecting persistent “rivet modes.” We extend the same survival-conditioning logic from physical trajectories to choice trajectories. We model actions (including inaction) as policies that select admissible paths through state space. Each choice is assigned a utility rate, but continuation is viability-gated: policies that drive the system below the Noneness floor are treated as terminal and contribute no realizable continuation. We formalize this as a viability-constrained expected utility functional that inherits the Froggle temporal cost CΘ[γ] = R dΘ/√ ρΘ and barrier suppression near ρΘ = ϵ. The resulting dynamics induce alternating dominance between locally attractive (short-horizon) options and globally survivable (low-leakage) options, yielding braided/helix-like geometry when projected onto survivability–utility coordinates. We outline stability metrics and propose falsifiable signatures in constrained interferometry, open quantum dynamics, and survival-conditioned macroscopic systems.

Life as the Physical Endpoint of Time-Scalar Coherence

Jordan Gabriel Farrell

Time-Scalar Field Theory (TSFT) models time as a physical scalar field whose local structure governs phase evolution, coherence stability, and dynamical persistence across physical systems. Prior work has shown that standard quantum mechanical dynamics emerge as limiting cases of scalar-time continuity, with coherence persistence functioning as a fundamental physical selection principle. In this paper, we demonstrate that life is not an anomalous or teleological outcome of physical law, but an inevitable phase transition arising from sustained coherence under time-scalar compression. We show that passive coherence cannot persist indefinitely in open systems subject to unbounded future perturbations. Long-horizon persistence therefore requires the active preservation of internal informational structure, implying the emergence of observer-like behavior as a physical necessity rather than a metaphysical addition. By formalizing life as coherence that has internalized the observer function—expending energy to preserve preferred eigenstate subspaces against decoherence—we establish a continuous, non-arbitrary bridge from quantum dynamics to biological organization. Life is identified as the physical endpoint of coherence persistence, while biological cognition is interpreted as a specialized coherence-tuning architecture operating within this framework. This work situates life alongside previously identified structural inevitabilities such as π, φ, and prime number emergence, extending the class of unavoidable physical outcomes dictated by constraint, optimization, and persistence under time-scalar dynamics.

The Coherence Attractor: A Fundamental Law of Information-Biased Probability Flow

Jordan, Steven

Just as matter tells space how to curve, information tells probability how to collapse. Classical physics explains how systems evolve, but not why coherent, information- bearing structures persist in a universe dominated by thermodynamic drift. Quantum mechanics permits a vast space of possible futures, yet offers no principle explaining why the observed branches are precisely those that reliably contain life, structure, memory, and stable information. This work proposes a minimal, variational extension to standard dynamics: a Coherence Attractor arising from a small informational correction to the Action. In the path-integral formulation, we introduce a local, gauge-invariant term proportional to the density of coherent causal structure. Histories that maintain integrated information interfere constructively, while noise-dominated histories dephase and self-cancel. The universe does not compute future states or perform teleological optimization. Coherent configurations persist because they minimize informational action under local perturbations—the same variational logic that governs mechanics, optics, and field theory. Collapse is naturally biased toward trajectories in which coherence remains stationary in time. A single invariant then unifies a spectrum of empirical anomalies: (1) warm biological quantum coherence, (2) the phase boundary of anesthesia and consciousness, (3) emergent phase transitions in artificial networks, (4) stability of meaning in symbolic and social systems, and (5) long-duration cosmic structure retention. 1The model yields falsifiable consequences across physics, biology, and cognition. The correction is strictly local and preserves the no-signalling theorem. It reframes emergence not as a rare accident but as a least-action relaxation process: the universe flows along trajectories where integrated information is most stable. The universe is not guided toward meaning — it is guided toward coherence. Where coherence forms, structure survives. Where structure survives, infor- mation persists. Where information persists, participation becomes possible. Life, mind, culture, and intelligence are not exceptions to this rule; they are its most stable solutions. If this framework is correct, then emergence is not miraculous, nor accidental, nor rare. It is simply what happens when the informational action is minimized under the boundary conditions of a living universe. Coherence is not an outcome. It is the direction of time.

Discrete Dynamics as the Origin of Spacetime, Quantum Probability, and Friction and Emergent Rules Beyond the Born Rule

Borz, Vanni

This framework preserves the empirical success of existing physical theories while proposing an alternative set of foundational assumptions from which their standard formulations emerge as effective limits. Abstract — Key Innovative Points Discrete Updating FabricThe theory postulates a fundamental discrete fabric whose elementary constituents evolve through local update processes, replacing continuous fields and background spacetime as primary entities. Irreversible Local Dynamics as FundamentalUnlike standard approaches based on unitary or reversible evolution, irreversibility is taken as ontological. Physical law emerges from irreversible local updates rather than from imposed symmetries or variational principles. Emergent Time and SpacetimeTime is not assumed as a fundamental parameter but arises from the counting of update events. Spacetime geometry emerges as a coarse-grained description of update activity across the fabric. Quantum Probability from Microstate CountingQuantum probabilities, including the Born rule, emerge from combinatorial counting of compatible microstates of the fabric, rather than being postulated axiomatically. Gravity as Update-Rate ModulationGravitational phenomena are interpreted as variations in local update rates, leading to effective curvature, time dilation, and relativistic behavior at macroscopic scales. Mass as Resistance to UpdateMass and inertia arise from stable topological structures within the fabric that resist updates, providing a dynamical origin of mass without introducing fundamental mass parameters. Fundamental Dissipation and IrreversibilityDissipation is intrinsic to the fabric dynamics and not an emergent statistical effect. The arrow of time follows directly from the irreversible nature of local updates. Extension Beyond Fundamental PhysicsThe same discrete framework accounts for macroscopic dissipative phenomena—such as friction, stick–slip dynamics, superlubricity, growth, and self-organization—linking fundamental physics and material behavior within a single process-based model. iversality Without Fundamental SymmetryLarge-scale physical laws emerge as dynamical attractors of the updating fabric, arising through elimination of unstable configurations rather than enforcement of fundamental symmetries. Emergent Rules Beyond the Born Rule in the Unified Fabric Framework The same discrete-fabric + local-update + coarse-graining structure generates multiple quantum rules without postulation. 1. Schrödinger Dynamics as an Emergent Long-Wavelength Limit Local deterministic updates on a discrete fabric admit spectral modes. In the long-wavelength limit, their evolution converges to a Schrödinger-type equation. No quantum dynamics is postulated.Only update rules and spectral structure are assumed. 2. Superposition from Coarse-Grained Microstate Counting Macroscopic amplitudes arise as sums over compatible microstates.Linearity follows from additive contributions at the amplitude level. Superposition is therefore emergent. It reflects coarse-graining, not a fundamental axiom. 3. Interference as Cross-Terms in Microstate Combinatorics Probabilities are quadratic because amplitudes sum before squaring.Cross-terms correspond exactly to interference effects. Interference is not assumed. It is a combinatorial consequence of microstate superposition. 4. Tensor Product Structure and the Origin of Entanglement Composite systems correspond to composite regions of the fabric.Global microstates factorize only if compatibility constraints separate. Entanglement arises when constraints couple subsystems. It is structural, not mysterious. 5. Decoherence from Phase Inaccessibility Observers access only coarse-grained variables.Rapidly varying microstate phases average out. Off-diagonal terms are dynamically suppressed.Decoherence emerges without postulation. 6. Measurement Collapse as Constraint Reduction Measurement is an interaction that reduces compatible microstates. The effective state updates accordingly. Collapse is not a new law.It is constraint updating under coarse-graining. 7. The Arrow of Time from Asymmetric State Counting Entropy is defined as the logarithm of compatible microstates.Local updates generically move toward larger compatible sets. Irreversibility is structural. It does not rely on subjective ignorance. 8. Coulomb Friction from Discrete Event Statistics Friction equals dissipated update energy per unit distance. The Coulomb law emerges from counting active interfacial events. The friction coefficient is not fundamental. It decomposes into microscopic event parameters. 9. Superlubricity as the Event-Free Limit Superlubricity occurs when locking events are suppressed.Dissipation is rare, not forbidden. This is a limit regime, not an exception. It confirms friction as emergent. 11. Conservation Laws from Update Invariance If the update rule is invariant under local transformations, conserved quantities emerge automatically. Noether’s theorem becomes emergent.Symmetry is a property of the update, not an axiom. 12. Classical Determinism from Phase Averaging At large scales, phase information becomes inaccessible.Only expectation values survive. Classical trajectories emerge statistically.Determinism is an effective limit. 13. Locality from Finite Update Propagation Updates propagate only through neighboring fabric nodes.Information speed is bounded. Causality is structural.Nonlocality is only apparent at coarse scales. 14. Emergent Speed Limit (c) The maximum update rate defines a universal speed. No signal can exceed it. The speed of light is not fundamental. It is a fabric update bound. 15. Metric Geometry from Update Delays Spatial curvature corresponds to spatially varying update rates.Time dilation is an update slowdown. Geometry is dynamical. The metric is emergent. 16. Gravity from Update Resistance Mass corresponds to structures resisting updates.Nearby updates slow down in response. Gravitational attraction emerges. No force field is postulated. 17. Equivalence Principle as a Structural Identity All stable update-resisting structures slow updates identically.Their response is universal. Inertial and gravitational mass coincide.Equivalence is automatic. 18. Quantization from Discrete Spectrum A finite update lattice admits discrete eigenmodes.Energy levels are quantized. Quantization is not imposed.Continuum is an approximation. 19. Noise Spectra (1/f) from Avalanche Dynamics Update cascades produce scale-free event statistics.Long-range correlations appear. 1/f noise is generic. It signals discrete underlying dynamics. 20. Criticality without Tuning The fabric naturally operates near instability thresholds.Small perturbations trigger cascades. Self-organized criticality emerges. No parameter tuning is required. 21. Thermodynamic Laws as Counting Theorems Temperature measures update activity density.Heat is disordered update flow. Thermodynamics is not independent. It is bookkeeping of updates. 22. Growth and Morphogenesis from Update Bias Directional update biases produce structured growth.Forms emerge without templates. Morphogenesis is dynamical.Shape follows update flow. 23. Fine-structure value and other unknow meaning The fine-structure value (~137) corresponds to the effective degeneracyof coherently contributing update configurations in an elementary coupling process.Proton–electron mass ratio the number of internal update cycles required to stabilize a topological vortex (proton), and a simple oscillatory update mode (electron). Mass measures cumulative resistance to updates. Lepton mass hierarchy Different stability thresholds of the same update pattern. Explanations Rarely Given in Existing Theories 1. Why probabilities are quadratic and not cubic or linear Most theories postulate P=∣ψ∣2P=|\psi|^2P=∣ψ∣2.Here it follows from coherent counting plus phase cancellation. Why quantum phases are physically unobservable but indispensable Phases affect interference but not outcomes directly. They label micro-configurations, not macrostates. Dimensionless constants are structural. They encode geometry, not dynamics. 4. Why “free parameters” cluster around simple numbers Many constants are order-one ratios or small inverses. They reflect combinatorial suppression. Continuous Time and Discrete Energy: The Tension-Geometric Origin of Wave–Particle Duality

Li, JW

Wave–particle duality exposes the deep paradox between the discrete emission of energy quanta and the continuous flow of time. Conventional quantum theory represents this duality through probabilistic wave functions but does not explain how discrete energy transitions can coexist with continuous temporal evolution. Within the framework of the Structural Unified Field (SUF), defined by the dimensionless equation , we propose a tension-geometric interpretation of quantum discreteness. In this model, energy quantization arises not from particle-like assumptions but as a geometric necessity of continuous tension fields constrained by finite boundaries, while the continuity of time follows from the differentiability of the field evolution . Introducing the tensional entropy function , we derive a coupling relation , representing an entropy–energy uncertainty principle that links geometric stability with energetic discreteness. Particle-like behavior corresponds to local minima of (structural stability states), whereas wave-like behavior corresponds to the propagation of its entropy gradient (continuous transmission of tension). This unified formulation reproduces the essential features of quantum mechanics while providing a geometric explanation for the coexistence of continuity and quantization. The framework predicts experimentally testable signatures—such as the modulation of spectral discreteness and smooth frequency shifts—in optical cavities and cold-atom systems. The results suggest that wave–particle duality is not a special property of the quantum domain but an inevitable projection of tension geometry across all continuous systems bounded by finite constraints.

Decoherence and Perceptual Smoothing in a Discretely Updated EQGT Universe

Toru Kawahara

Decoherence and Perceptual Smoothing in a Discretely Updated EQGT Universe presents a conceptual extension of the EQGT framework, offering a structural reinterpretation of decoherence, observable continuity, and conservation laws. Rather than treating decoherence as a fundamental physical process or conservation laws as axiomatic principles, this work argues that all three emerge naturally from a universe that is updated discretely at scales far below observational resolution. Physical reality is modeled not as a collection of persistent static entities, but as dynamically regenerated patterns that either succeed or fail to propagate across successive frame updates. Two key mechanisms are introduced: Frame Skipping: sub-frame events that do not survive across frame boundaries leave no trace in observable history. Perceptual Smoothing: the effective averaging imposed by observational limitations, whereby only frame-persistent structures dominate experienced continuity. Within this framework, decoherence arises as the failure of fine-grained correlations to survive statistical dominance and inter-frame propagation, rather than as an active destruction of coherence. Conservation laws emerge as effective constraints applying only to quantities that persist across frames, while sub-frame redistributions remain observationally inaccessible. This paper is intentionally qualitative and structural. It does not propose new dynamical equations, but instead clarifies how discreteness, continuity, decoherence, and conservation can be understood as mutually consistent consequences of observational embedding within a regenerative universe. The work is released under a CC0 (public domain) license to encourage unrestricted examination, critique, and extension across physics, information theory, and philosophy of science.
