The Two-Phase Theory of Quantum Consciousness: From Computational Advantage to Biophysical Realization

Abstract

This monograph presents a unified, multi-level theory of consciousness based on theprinciples of quantum mechanics. We posit that consciousness is a two-phase compu-tational process (QWIM) that provides an organism with a quadratic evolutionaryadvantage (O(√N )) in solving cognitive tasks. We introduce a specific biophysicalmechanism for the realization of this process—the Spin-Phonon Bridge based onNitrogen-Vacancy (NV) centers, which transforms a coherent quantum state intomacroscopic calcium signaling in the glial network. The theory explains the pathol-ogy of cognitive aging through the Quantum Zeno Blockade mechanism and pro-poses a concrete, falsifiable experimental signature for its verification—"quantumbeats" in the EEG spectrum. Thus, this work integrates theoretical physics, neu-roscience, and psychology into a single, logically complete concept. This project is now under legal monitoring. The Two-Phase Theory of Quantum Consciousness (QWIM): From Computational Advantage to Biophysical Transduction in Open Dissipative Systems

Valeriy Kotenko

This monograph presents a unified Quantum-like Wave Information Model (QWIM)of consciousness. We posit that consciousness operates as a two-phase computationaltransducer rather than a classical memory-bound storage system. By replacing standardquantum search algorithms with Resonant Quantum Walks, we resolve the ”Oracle problem” while maintaining an O(√N) evolutionary advantage. The model introduces a biophysical bridge based on Nitrogen-Vacancy (NV) centers, utilizing Controlled StochasticResonance at 369 Hz to overcome the thermal noise limit (kBT). We formalize the nonequilibrium thermodynamics of the state reduction via the Lindblad master equation anddefine a precise trigger for Phase II based on entropy production and Landauer’s principle. Finally, we mathematically model cognitive rigidity through the Quantum Zeno Blockadeand propose an empirically falsifiable signature: quantum beats in the EEG spectrum.

The Quantum Advantage of Consciousness: A Framework for Cognitive Impedance, Zeno Blockade, and Experiential Intelligence

Valeriy Kotenko

This paper presents a unified theoretical framework for consciousness, positing that it is a physi-cal process rooted in quantum mechanics, which offers a significant computational advantage overclassical neural processing. We address the critical problem of decoherence in biological systemsby proposing a three-level "Quantum Shield" mechanism, involving structural isolation, metabolicpumping (Frohlich condensate), and topological error correction, which actively maintains quantumcoherence in microtubules. We then introduce the Two-Phase Algorithm of Consciousness (QWIM),a process functionally equivalent to Grover’s quantum search algorithm, and prove that it providesa quadratic speedup (O(√N ) vs. O(N )) for cognitive tasks such as insight and pattern recognition. This computational gain provides an evolutionary rationale for the brain’s investment in maintainingquantum states.Furthermore, we develop the theory of Cognitive Quantum Impedance (CQI) and the QuantumZeno Blockade to explain the degradation of this quantum faculty. We demonstrate, using the Lind-blad master equation, that memory recall acts as a continuous measurement, freezing the system’sevolution and suppressing insight at a rate R ∝ 1/Γ, where Γ is the memory’s precision. Finally,we propose the Resonant Doubt Architecture (RDA) as an engineering solution for Artificial GeneralIntelligence (AGI), a "quantum-inspired" regulatory system designed to counteract this Zeno blockadeand maintain cognitive fluidity. Quantum Wave-Impulse Model of Consciousness (QWIM) 3.0

Kotenko, Valeriy

PrefaceThis monograph presents the Quantum Wave-Impulse Model of Consciousness (QWIM).The intention is not to offer a casual speculation but to provide a mathematically explicitand experimentally falsifiable framework that unites quantum information concepts withneurophysiology and cognitive phenomenology. The author assumes responsibility for thetheoretical constructions herein and welcomes rigorous critique and empirical testing. The work is organized to introduce the ontological premises, derive the formal structure, propose biophysical substrates and measurable predictions, and discuss methodologicaland ethical implications. Appendices contain background, mathematical derivations, and experimental protocols to facilitate replication.

QWIM 4.0 final

Valeriy Kotenko

This monograph provides a definitive biophysical and mathematical formalization of the Quantum Wave-Impulse Model (QWIM 4.0), framing consciousness as a fundamental dissipative process designed to enable optimal Bayesian inference with minimal energy expenditure. Building upon previous iterations, Revision 4.0 introduces the "Golden Key" to biological quantum processing: the identification of Phosphorus-31 (^{31}P) nuclear spins within Posner molecules (Ca_{9}(PO_{4})_{6}) as the stable quantum substrate. Unlike electronic spins, these nuclear qubits exhibit exceptionally long coherence times (ranging from minutes to hours) at physiological temperatures (310 K), effectively overcoming the "warm and wet" decoherence barrier that has historically hindered quantum neurobiological models. This project is now under legal monitoring. All commercial implementations must contact the author.

Consciousness as a Decoherent Process: An Explanatory Model Connecting Quantum Physics and Cognitive Science

JUN TAO

This paper proposes a "Consciousness Decoherence Model" grounded in a structured metaphor drawn from quantum decoherence theory. The model frames pre-conscious states as a superposition of multiple possible contents, and characterizes the formation of conscious awareness as a process of decoherence—triggered by internal and external "environments" (including sensory input, interoception, and attention)—that stabilizes one specific classical state into reportable awareness. Through systematic conceptual mapping and comparative analysis with Global Neuronal Workspace Theory, Integrated Information Theory, and other recent decoherence-inspired frameworks, the model unifies diverse cognitive phenomena such as creative insight, decision paralysis, and psychopathological states under a single dynamical logic.

The Quantum Observer and Mind Collapse

Dion Fryson

The study of consciousness and subjective experience represents one of the most intricate frontiers in contemporary philosophy, psychology, and cognitive science. For decades, dominant paradigms have characterized the mind through two reductive lenses: as a passive receptor of sensory data or as a computational system processing information through fixed algorithmic operations. While useful in specific contexts, these models consistently fail to capture the dynamic, participatory nature of conscious experience—the recursive relationship between awareness and reality construction. Recent theoretical developments challenge these frameworks by integrating diverse conceptual domains: quantum mechanics metaphors, classical mindfulness traditions, and cognitive behavioral theory. These emerging approaches propose a fundamentally transformative role for the observer, suggesting consciousness does not merely witness reality but actively participates in shaping it.
