Integrating quantum computing models for enhanced efficiency in 5G networking systems

Anand Singh Rajawat, S. B. Goyal, Jaiteg Singh +1 more

The emergence of 5G networking systems is a notable advancement in communication technology, offering unparalleled data speeds and connectivity. Nevertheless, the growing complexity of these systems poses a significant challenge in terms of ensuring both efficiency and security. This study investigates the incorporation of quantum computing models as a means to improve the effectiveness and robustness of 5G networking systems. Quantum computing presents a promising solution for addressing the various obstacles encountered by 5G networks, owing to its capacity to execute intricate computations swiftly and safely. Through the utilization of quantum algorithms and the application of fundamental concepts such as superposition and entanglement, the objective of this integration is to optimize the management of network traffic, strengthen the encryption of data, and improve the overall efficiency of the system. This paper presents a thorough examination of the potential applications of quantum computing models in many domains of 5G networking, encompassing data transmission, network architecture, and security protocols. Additionally, the paper addresses the various obstacles and constraints associated with the process of integrating these elements. The results indicate that quantum computing models have the potential to improve the efficiency of 5G networks and contribute to the development of more resilient and secure communication systems in the future.

Securing the Access to the 5G core with Quantum Key Distribution

Ane Sanz, Asier Atutxa, David Franco +2 more

With the advent of quantum computing, the traditional security mechanisms employed in 5G communications might become vulnerable. Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) stands as a promising approach to secure communications and build 5G networks for ensuring long-term security and safeguarding against emerging quantum threats. In our previous work, a system to integrate QKD in multi-site 5G core networks to secure inter-Network Function (NF) communications was proposed and validated. This paper extends that approach by exploring additional segments of 5G networks prone to quantum vulnerabilities, particularly in the segment between the Radio Access Network (RAN) and the 5G core for both 3GPP and Non-3GPP access. This paper describes the proposed quantum-safe 5G network architecture and discusses the benefits and challenges of deploying QKD-enabled security in these segments.
