Collective radiance effects in the ultrastrong-coupling regime

Qian Bin, Xin‐You Lü, Tai-Shuang Yin +2 more

We investigate the collective radiance characteristics of qubits in the ultrastrong-coupling regime, where the radiance witness is defined based on the resonator-qubit dressed basis. An ultrastrong hyperradiance effect is demonstrated when the dressed state of the system is resonantly driven. Interestingly, we show that, besides the resonator-qubit coupling strength, the parity-symmetry-breaking-induced cascade transition can significantly enhance the collective radiance of the qubits, which allows us to manipulate the transitions between subradiance, superradiance, and hyperradiance via adjusting the parity symmetry of the system with an external magnetic field. This work extends the collective radiance theory to the ultrastrong-coupling regime, and offers potential applications in the engineering of laser devices.

Photon blockade in a double-transmon system with ultrastrong coupling

Tian 甜 Tian 田, Xianhe 先和 Zhu 朱, Xi 茜 Tian 田

Abstract The circuit quantum electrodynamics (QED) system has brought us into an ultrastrong and deep coupling regime in the light–matter interaction community, in which the quantum effect has attracted significant interest. In this study, we theoretically investigated the photon blockade phenomenon in a double-transmon system operating in an ultrastrong coupling regime. We considered the effect of the counter-rotating wave terms in the interaction Hamiltonian and derived the master equation in the eigenpresentation. We found that photon blockade occurred in only one of the eigenmodes, and the counter-rotating wave terms enhanced the blockade by reducing the minimum value of the second-order correlation function. This study will be beneficial for the design of single-photon devices in circuit QED systems, especially in the ultrastrong coupling regime.

Second-harmonic generation in absorptive media

Gilad Almogy, Amnon Yariv

The solution of the coupled-wave equations for second-harmonic generation in a near-resonant three-level system is extended to include absorption. It is shown, within second-order perturbation theory, that double resonance is the optimal conversion condition, despite absorption enhancement. We extend the solution numerically, using nonperturbative susceptibilities derived within the rotating-wave approximation, to saturating intensities and discuss the modifications to the perturbative conclusions as well as the regimes of validity for the various approximations.
